The dependence of the directions of polarization of exciton emissions, fine structure splittings （FSS）, and polarization anisotropy on the light- and heavy-hole （LH-HH） mixing in semiconductor quantum dots （QDs） is investigated using a mesoscopic model. In general, all QDs have a four-fold exciton ground state. Two exciton states have directions of polarization in the growth-plane, while the other two are along the growth direction of the QD. The LH-HH mixing does affect the FSS and polarization anisotropy of bright exciton states in the growth-plane in the low symmetry QDs （e.g., C2v, CS, C1 ）, while it has no effect on the FSS and polarization anisotropy in high symmetry QDs （e.g., C3V, D2d）. When the hole ground state is pure HH or LH, the bright exciton states in the growth-plane are normal to each other. The LH-HH mixing affects the relative intensities and directions of bright exciton states in the growth-plane of the QD. The polarization anisotropy of exciton emissions in the growth-plane of the QD is independent of the phase angle of LH-HH mixing but strongly depends on the magnitude of LH-HH mixing in low symmetry QDs.

A number of optical sensing tools are now available and can potentially be used for refining need-based fertilizer nitrogen(N)topdressing *** for estimating field-specific fertilizer N needs are based on predictions of yield made while the crops are still growing in the *** present study was conducted to establish and validate yield prediction models using spectral indices measured with proximal sensing using GreenSeeker canopy reflectance sensor,soil and plant analyzer development(SPAD)chlorophyll meter,and two different types of leaf color charts(LCCs)for five basmati rice genotypes across different growth *** analysis was performed using normalized difference vegetation index(NDVI)recorded with GreenSeeker sensor and leaf greenness indices measured with SPAD meter and LCCs developed by Punjab Agricultural University,Ludhiana(India)(PAU-LCC)and the International Rice Research Institute,Philippines(IRRI-LCC).The exponential relationship between NDVI and grain yield exhibited the highest coefficient of determination(R^(2))and minimum normalized root mean square error(NRMSE)at panicle initiation stage and explained 38.3%–76.4%variation in yield using genotype-specific *** indices pooled for different genotypes were closely related to grain yield at all growth stages and explained53.4%–57.2%variation in grain *** different spectral indices with cumulative growing degree days(CGDD)decreased the accuracy of yield *** with days after transplanting(DAT),however,did not reduce or improve the predictability of *** ability of each model to predict grain yield was validated with an independent dataset collected from two experiments conducted at different sites with a range of fertilizer N *** NDVI-based genotype-specific models exhibited a robust linear correlation(R^(2)=0.77,NRMSE=7.37%,n=180)between observed and predicted grain yields only at 35 DAT(i.e.,panicle initiation stage)

In this paper, we propose some distance measures between type-2 fuzzy sets, and also a new family of utmost distance measures are presented. Several properties of differ- ent proposed distance measures have been introduced. Also, we have introduced a new ranking method for the ordering of type-2 fuzzy sets based on the proposed distance measure. The proposed ranking method satisfies the reasonable prop- erties for the ordering of fuzzy quantities. Some properties such as robustness, order relation have been presented. Lim- itations of existing ranking methods have been studied. Fur- ther for practical use, a new method for selecting the best alternative, for group decision making problems is proposed. This method is illustrated with a numerical example.

An internal failure mode for a soil-nailed system consists of failure at nail heads,slope facing,nail strength,along groutesoil interface and pullout failure.A better understanding of pullout of soil nail thus becomes important to assess the stability of a soil-nailed *** the present study,an investigation into the pullout behaviour of soil nail with circular discs along the shaft has been carried out by a threedimensional finite element analysis using Abaqus/Explicit routine.A total of 67 simulations have been performed to accurately predict the pullout behaviour of soil *** soil nail under study has circular discs along its shaft varying in numbers from 1 to *** pullout of this soil nail in a pullout test box has been simulated with a constant overburden pressure of 20 kPa acting on the *** pullout load edisplacement characteristics,stresses around soil nail and failure mechanism during pullout are *** of dimensionless factors such as normalised pullout load factor and bearing capacity factor have been obtained with different combinations of parameters in terms of relative disc spacing ratio,anchorage length ratio,embedment ratio,diameter ratio and displacement *** the results of analyses,it is found that nail with more circular discs requires higher pullout *** are critical relative disc spacing ratio and diameter ratio which significantly affect the pullout behaviour of nail.

Aim: To study the contraceptive effect of the crude extracts of Curcuma longa in male albino rats. Methods: Rats were fed orally with Curcuma longa aqueous and 70 % alcoholic extract for 60 days (500 mg·kg-1· day-1). Results: A reduction in sperm motility and density was observed in both the treated groups. Conclusion: Curcuma longa may have affected the androgen synthesis either by inhibiting the Leydig cell function or the hypo-thalamus pituitary axis and as a result, spermatogenesis is arrested.

Magma produced by melting of continental crust and mantle at the Archean-Proterozoic boundary are compositionally variable and chemical compositions provide evidence for the mixing of two sources. Understanding the composition of hybrid magma is essential for determining the comparative infl uence of crust and mantle sources during orogenesis. The hybrid granites are less documented in Indian cratons, especially less in Dharwar Craton. Here we present petrographic and whole-rock geochemical data of Madgulapalli granitic rocks situated in the NE part of the Eastern Dharwar Craton(EDC), to elucidate their petrogenesis and role in crust formation. The Madugulapalli granites(MPG) are composed chiefl y of plagioclase, quartz, and alkali feldspar with associated biotite showing alteration and inter-granular textures. Geochemically, they are metaluminous to peraluminous in nature with calc-alkaline hybrid granite. The hybrid granites exhibit both negative and positive europium anomalies;the lower Rb/Sr, Rb, Sr, and higher Sr/Y,(Dy/Yb)N ratios suggest that the interaction of older rocks with residual garnet source melted at high pressures. We hypothesize that hybrid granites are formed by interaction(e.g., metasomatism, mingling, or mixing) between parental magmas and pre-existing rocks with the infl uence of sanukitoid melts(heat source) in a subduction environment. The genesis of the hybrid granites demonstrates the mixing coupled with diff erentiation in the petrogeny’s residue system in a syn-collision setting followed by continental crust stability in EDC during the Neoarchean period.

Recently,renewable power generation and electric vehicles(EVs)have been attracting more and more attention in smart *** paper presents a grid-connected solar-wind hybrid system to supply the electrical load demand of a small shopping complex located in a university campus in ***,an EV charging station is incorporated in the *** analysis is performed for the proposed setup to satisfy the charging demand of EVs as well as the electrical load demand of the shopping *** proposed system is designed by considering the cost of the purchased energy,which is sold to the utility grid,while the power exchange is ensured between the utility grid and other components of the *** sizing of the component is performed to obtain the least levelized cost of electricity(LCOE)while minimizing the loss of power supply probability(LPSP)by using recent optimization *** results demonstrate that the LCOE and LPSP for the proposed system are measured at 0.038$/k Wh and0.19%with a renewable fraction of 0.87,*** is determined that a cost-effective and reliable system can be designed by the proper management of renewable power generation and load *** proposed system may be helpful in reducing the reliance on the over-burdened grid,particularly in developing countries.

Impact of open dumping of municipal solid waste on soil properties in mountainous region

This paper presents the effect of open dumping of municipal solid waste(MSW) on soil characteristics in the mountainous region of Himachal Pradesh, India. The solid waste of dumpsite contains various complex characteristics with organic fractions of the highest proportions. As leachate percolates into the soil, it migrates contaminants into the soil and affects soil stability and strength. The study includes the geotechnical investigation of dump soil characteristics and its comparison with the natural soil samples taken from outside the proximity of dumpsites. The geochemical analysis of dumpsite soil samples was also carried out by scanning electron microscopy(SEM) and energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy(EDS).Visual inspection revealed that the MSW consists of high fraction of organics, followed by paper. The soil samples were collected from five trial pits in the dumpsites at depths of 0.5 m, 1 m and 1.5 m. Then the collected soil samples were subjected to specific gravity test, grain size analysis, Atterberg’s limit test,compaction test, direct shear test, California bearing ratio(CBR) test and permeability analysis. The study indicated that the dumpsite soils from four study regions show decreasing trends in the values of maximum dry density(MDD), specific gravity, cohesion and CBR, and increasing permeability as compared to the natural soil. The results show that the geotechnical properties of the soils at all four study locations have been severely hampered due to contamination induced by open dumping of waste.

Formal methods are the mathematically techniques and tools which are used at early stages of software development lifecycle processes. The utter need of using formal methods in safety critical system leads to accuracy, consistency and correctness in proposed system. In safety critical real time application, requirements should be unambiguous and very accurate which can be achieved by using mathematical theorems. There is utter need to focus on the requirement phase which is the most critical phase of SDLC. This paper focuses on the use of Z notation for incorporating the accuracy, consistency, and eliminates ambiguity in safety critical system: Road Traffic Management System as a case study. The syntax, semantics, type checking and domain checking are further verified by using Z/EVES: a Z notation type checker tool.

Among various functional genomics tools used to characterize genes in plants, transposonbased mutagenesis approaches offer great potential, especially in barley and wheat, which possess large genomes and in which genetic transformation is not routine. Two Ds transposon flanking sequences(TNPs), TNP-29(27.4 c M(centi Morgan)) and TNP-79(70.3 c M), were mapped in the vicinity of a malting quality QTL located on chromosome 4H of barley. Reactivation of the Ds transposon sequence from these TNP lines led to the identification of genes in the malting QTL regions. Several Ds(dissociation) lines were generated by crossing TNP-29 and TNP-79 with an Ac TPase(activator) expressing line(25-B), and F2 progenies were subsequently screened for Ds insertions at new locations. To further characterize these Ds mutants, we mapped the new Ds flanking sequences on a barley genetic map and found that 29% of Ds were located in regions associated with the malting QTL located on chromosome 4H and in close proximity to other important malting-associated QTL across the barley chromosome. Using a sequence based approach, a linkage map was generated that confirmed the position of Ds loci in the barley genome map. Locating these Ds loci on the barley map opens avenues to dissect important malting QTL for facilitating identification of candidate malting genes.
