Autologous tissue patch rich in stem cells created in the subcutaneous tissue

AIM:To investigate whether we could create natural autologous tissue patches in the subcutaneous space for organ repair. METHODS: We implanted the following three types of inert foreign bodies in the subcutaneous tissue of rats to produce autologous tissue patches of different geometries:(1) a large-sized polyvinyl tube(L = 25 mm,internal diameter = 7 mm) sealed at both ends by heat application for obtaining a large flat piece of tissue patch for organ repair;(2) a fine polyvinyl tubing(L = 25 mm,internal diameter = 3 mm) for creating cylindrically shaped grafts for vascular or nerve repair; and(3) a slurry of polydextran particle gel for inducing a bladder-like tissue. Implantation of inert materials was carried out by making a small incision on one or either side of the thoracic-lumbar region of rats. Subcutaneous pockets were created by blunt dissection around the incision into which the inert bodies were inserted(1 or 2 per rat). The incisions were closed with silk sutures,and the animals were allowed to recover. In case of the polydextran gel slurry 5 m L of the slurry was injected in the subcutaneous space using an 18 gauge needle. After implanting the foreign bodies a newly regenerated encapsulating tissue developed around the foreign bodies. The tissues were harvested after 4-42 d of implantation and studied by gross examination,histology,and histochemistry for organization,vascularity,and presence of mesenchymal stem cells(MSCs)(CD271+CD34+ cells). RESULTS: Implanting a large cylindrically shaped polyvinyl tube resulted in a large flat sheet of tissue that could be tailored to a specific size and shape for use as a tissue patch for repairing large organs. Implanting a smaller sized polyvinyl tube yielded a cylindrical tissue that could be useful for repairing nerves and blood vessels. Genetic Variability and Direct Selection Criterion for Seed Yield in Segregating Generations of Barley (<i>Hordeum vulgare</i>L.)

The aim of this study was to determine nature and extent of variability parameters and their utilization in barley breeding programme. A total of 45 F1s along with their parents and F2 populations were evaluated in a randomized block design with 3 replications during Rabi (winter season) 2014. The various traits measured were days to 50% flowering, days to maturity, plant height, flag leaf area, upper leaf area, tillers-plant, spikes-plant, spike length, grains-spike, spike weight, grain weight-spike, spike harvest index, 1000 grain weight, biological yield-plant, grain yield-plant (g), harvest index, grain size, husk content and protein content. Results showed that significant variation was observed for all the traits studied in the entire gene pool. The degree of genotypic and phenotypic coefficient of variation was high for tillers-plant, spike-plant, grain yield-plant, flag leaf area, harvest index, 1000 grain weight, grain weight-spike, upper leaf area and husk content. High heritability coupled with high genetic advance was recorded for tillers-plant, spikes-plant, grain yield-plant, flag leaf area, harvest index, grain weight-spike, upper leaf area, husk content, grain size and plant height suggesting that these traits are highly heritable and governed by additive gene action. Moderate heritability coupled with high genetic advance was observed for 1000 grain weight, biological yield-plant, spike length, protein content, grains-spike and spike weight;however, days to 50% flowering and days to maturity had moderate heritability coupled with low genetic advance suggesting preponderance on non-additive gene action in the inheritance of these traits. It could be concluded that the traits of tillers-plant, spikes-plant, grain yield-plant, flag leaf area, harvest index, grain weight-spike, upper leaf area, husk content, grain size and plant height were identified as most decisive factor intended towards developing high yielding barley cultivars.

Microwave Synthesis, Characterization and Photocatalytic Properties of SnO2 Nanoparticles

In the present endeavour, SnO2 nanoparticles (NPs) were synthesized using microwave method. Synthesized SnO2 NPs were characterized using X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and energy dispersive spectrscopy (EDS) to find their structure, morphology and elemental composition. SnO2 NPs were of spherical morphology having crystallite size of 35.42 nm as obtained from Scherrer’s formula using most intense peak of XRD. Synthesized NPs were used for photodegradation of melthylene blue (MB) dye under UV light. The SnO2 NPs ware found to have photodegradation efficiency and apparent rate constant of 55.97% and 2.149 × 10_2 respectively.

New Measures of Skewness of a Probability Distribution

Symmetry of the underlying probability density plays an important role in statistical inference, since the sampling distribution of the sample mean for a given sample size is more likely to be approximately normal for a symmetric distribution than for an asymmetric one. In this article, two new measures of skewness are proposed and the confidence intervals for true skewness are obtained via Monte Carlo simulation experiments. One advantage of the two proposed skewness measures over the standard measures of skewness is that the proposed measures of skewness take values inside the range (-1, +1).

Response of Salt-Tolerant Rice Varieties to Biocompost Application in Sodic Soil of Eastern Uttar Pradesh

Sodic soils have immense productivity potential, if managed through proper technology interventions. Biocompost is prepared by composting pressmud (a sugar industry byproduct) received from cane juice filtration and spent wash received from distilleries through microbial aerobic decomposition and can be used to reclaim sodic soils. Field experiments were conducted during the wet season of 2011 and 2012 to study the effect of incorporation of biocompost in sodic soil with four treatments: T1—Control, T2—Biocompost at 2 t ha-1, T3—Biocompost at 4 t ha-1 and T4—Biocompost at 6 t ha-1. The two promising salt tolerant rice varieties preferred by farmers, Narendra usar 3 and NDR 359 were used as test crops, which can produce yields ranging between 2-4 t ha-1 in soil having a pH range of 9.2 to 10.5. Among the different doses of biocompost tested, application of biocompost at 6 t ha-1 registered highest yields, enabled by a higher biomass, ear bearing tiller (EBT), and grain fertility in both varieties. Narendra usar 3 was more responsive to treatments even at lower doses of biocompost than NDR 359, but NDR 359 yielded slightly higher than Narendra usar 3 in all treatments. Soil health was also improved evidently on better fertility and low soil pH and EC at harvest. Thus, biocompost can be considered as a commercially viable, environmentally acceptable and practically enforceable option for improving the crop productivity and soil fertility status.

Omentum facilitates liver regeneration

AIM:To investigate the mechanism of liver regeneration induced by fusing the omentum to a small traumatic injury created in the liver. We studied three groups of rats. In one group the rats were omentectomized; in another group the omentum was left in situ and was not activated,and in the third group the omentum was activated by polydextran particles. METHODS:We pre-activated the omentum by injecting polydextran particles and then made a small wedge wound in the rat liver to allow the omentum to fuse to the wound. We monitored the regeneration of the liver by determining the ratio of liver weight/body weight,by histological evaluation (including immune staining for cytokeratin-19,an oval cell marker),and by testing for developmental gene activation using reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR). RESULTS:There was no liver regeneration in the omentectomized rats,nor was there significant regeneration when the omentum was not activated,even though in this instance the omentum had fusedwith the liver. In contrast,the liver in the rats with the activated omentum expanded to a size 50% greater than the original,and there was histologically an interlying tissue between the wounded liver and the activated omentum in which bile ducts,containing cytokeratin-19 positive oval cells,extended from the wound edge. In this interlying tissue,oval cells were abundant and appeared to proliferate to form new liver tissue. In rats pre-treated with drugs that inhibited hepatocyte growth,liver proliferation was ongoing,indicating that regeneration of the liver was the result of oval cell expansion. CONCLUSION:Activated omentum facilitates liver regeneration following injury by a mechanism that depends largely on oval cell proliferation.

BACkGROUND Internal hernia(IH)is a rare culprit of small bowel obstruction(SBO)with an incidence ofknow,India between September 2010 and August 2023 were *** Out of 586 patients,7(1.2%)were diagnosed with *** these,4 had congenital IH and 3 had acquired *** male-to-female ratio was 4:*** median age at presentation was 32 ***-enhanced computed tomography(CECT)was the most reliable investigation for preoperative identification,demonstrating mesenteric whirling and clumped-up bowel *** paraduodenal hernia and transmesenteric hernia occurred with an equal frequency(approximately 43%each).Intraoperatively,one patient was found to have bowel ischemia and one had associated malrotation of *** follow-up,no recurrences were *** IH,being a rare cause,must be considered as a differential diagnosis for SBO,especially in young patients in their 30s or with unexplained abdominal pain or discomfort post-surgery.A rapid imaging evaluation,preferably with CECT,is necessary to aid in an early diagnosis and prompt intervention,thereby reducing financial burden related to unnecessary investigations and preventing the morbidity and mortality associated with closed-loop obstruction and strangulation of the bowel.

This study analyzes total electron content(TEC) variations during two solar eclipse events that occurred on October 25, 2022, and October 14, 2023. The solar eclipse of October 25, 2022, was a partial solar eclipse, while the eclipse of October 14, 2023, was an annular solar eclipse. For this study, the data of eight International GNSS Service(IGS) stations from different eclipse coverage zones are used to analyze TEC variations. It is found that the stations located in the maximum eclipse cover zone exhibited notable decreases in TEC values. The minimum variation of about 11.76% in TEC values is observed at the station situating in about 20 percent eclipse cover zone, while it varies from 22% to 38% at the stations falling in about 60 percent eclipse cover zone. The highest variation in TEC values of about 44% is found at the stations in about 80 percent eclipse cover zone. The time of occurrence of maximum depletion in TEC values at each station is in line with their longitudinal sequence. Atmospheric gravity waves(AGWs) are also observed by performing wavelet analysis on TEC data. The global TEC maps visualize and confirm observed TEC variations, providing spatial and temporal insights into the ionospheric response. This analysis highlights the influence of station location and eclipse coverage on the magnitude and spatial distribution of TEC variations.

Graphene derivatives as efficient hole transport materials for lead-free double perovskite（Cs2SnI6） solar cells: a numerical study

The double perovskite Cs2SnI6has notable optical and electrical characteristics, rendering it a highly prospective candidate for deployment as the absorber layer in perovskite solar cells （PSCs）. We simulated the performance of PSCs using lead-free Cs2SnI6double perovskite absorber layer and graphene derivatives, namely graphene oxide （GO） and reduced graphene oxide （rGO）, as hole transport layers （HTLs）. Our findings show that r GO offers an excellent hole extraction property with minimal interfacial recombination compared to GO.
