Interleukin (IL)-8 is a potent neutrophil chem.tactic factor and a crucial m.diator in neutrophil-dependent inflam.ation.Various cell types produce IL-8, either in response to external stim.li such as cytokines or bacterial infection, or afterm.lignant transform.tion. Anti-IL-8 strategies have been considered for anti-inflam.atory therapy. In this paper wedem.nstrate that the RNA interference technique can be used to efficiently down-regulate IL-8 protein expression inairway epithelial cells. We used a helper-dependent adenoviral vector to express a sm.ll hairpin (sh)RNA targetinghum.n IL-8 in cultured airway epithelial cells (IB3-1, Cftr-/-; C38, Cftr-corrected) stim.lated with TNF-α, IL-1β orheat-inactivated Burkholderia cenocepacia. Stim.lated IL-8 expression in IB3-1 and C38 cells was significantly reducedby shRNA expression. The shRNA targeting IL-8 had no effect on the activation of NF-κB, or on the protein levels ofIκB or IL-6, suggesting that this anti-IL-8 strategy was highly specific, and therefore m.y offer potential for thetreatm.nt of inflam.atory diseases.

Fifty four, seven m.nth old lam.s, that had grazed perennial or annual pasture, were slaughtered and at 24 h post m.rtem.m. longissim.s lum.orum.sam.les were collected. Half of the fresh m.scle section was sliced into three pieces and overwrapped with 15 m.cron polyvinyl chloride film.and displayed under light (Lux = 1500) at 3℃ - 4℃. The rem.inder of the m.scle section was vacuum.packaged and aged for 4 weeks at 3℃, before slicing and display. Surface brownness and redness were m.asured over 3 days of sim.lated retail display. Aging in vacuum.packs led to substantially less brownness and greater redness com.ared with fresh m.at, over the entire three days of display. It was concluded that aging in vacuum.packs could be a useful strategy for im.roving consum.r acceptability of retail lam. in local m.rkets, even where there is no logistical or transport need to extend the life of the m.at.

m.ny azoosperm.c m.n do not possess m.ture sperm.tozoa at the tim. of surgical sperm.extraction.This study is a system.tic review and m.ta-analysis evaluating outcom.s following round sperm.tid injection(ROSI),a technique which utilizes im.ature precursors of sperm.tozoa for fertilization.An electronic search was perform.d to identify relevant articles published through October 2018.Hum.n cohort studies in English involving m.le patients who had round sperm.tids identified and used for fertilization with hum.n oocytes were included.Fertilization rate,pregnancy rate,and resultant delivery rate were assessed following ROSI.m.ta-analysis outcom.s were analyzed using a random.effects m.del.Data were extracted from.22 studies involving 1099 couples and 4218 em.ryo transfers.The fertilization rate after ROSI was 38.7%(95%confidence interval[CI]:31.5%–46.3%),while the pregnancy rate was 3.7%(95%CI:3.2%–4.4%).The resultant delivery rate was low,with 4.3%of em.ryo transfers resulting in a delivery(95%CI:2.3%–7.7%).The pregnancy rate per couple was 13.4%(95%CI:6.8%–19.1%)and the resultant delivery rate per couple was 8.1%(95%CI:6.1%–14.4%).ROSI has resulted in clinical pregnancies and live births,but success rates are considerably lower than those achieved with m.ture sperm.tozoa.While this technique m.y be a feasible alternative for m.n with azoosperm.a who decline other options,couples should be aware that the odds of a successful delivery are greatly dim.nished and the prognosis is relatively poor.

Though the high prevalence of biom.ss fuel use in the developing world is widely known, the use of burning biom.ss for cooking and heating in the developed world is under-recognized. Com.ustion m.terials including coal and wood are also used for heating in som. areas of the United States. We conducted a pilot study to assess the feasibility of conducting indoor environm.ntal m.nitoring in rural Appalachia. We sought to explore the type of biom.ss being used for hom. heating and its im.act upon indoor air quality in non-heating and heating seasons. Residential indoor air m.nitoring for particulate m.tter (Pm. and nitrogen dioxide (NO2) was conducted in Lee County, Virginia. Hom.s had evidence of poor indoor air quality with high concentrations of indoor Pm.and a large burden of cigarette sm.king. Further characterization of indoor com.ustion m.terial use in this region to determ.ne the health im.acts associated with such exposures is warranted.

Background Percutaneous coronary intervention(PCI)for stable ischem.c heart disease(SIHD)in older adults requires a m.tic-ulous assessm.nt of procedural risks and benefits,but contem.orary data on outcom.s in this population is lacking.Therefore,we exam.ned the risk of near-term.readm.ssion,bleeding,and m.rtality in high-risk cohort of older adults undergoing inpatient PCI for SIHD.m.THODS We analyzed the National Readm.ssions Database from.2017 to 2018 to identify index hospitalizations in which PCI was perform.d for SIHD.Patients were stratified into those≥75 years old(older adults)and thosem.ry outcom. was 90-day readm.ssion.Secondary outcom.s included in-hospital m.rtality,hospital length of stay(LOS),and total hospital charge.RESULTS A total of 74,516 patients underwent inpatient PCI for SIHD,of whom.24,075 were older adults.Older adult patients had higher odds of in-hospital m.rtality(OR=2.00,95%CI:1.68-2.38),intracranial hem.rrhage(OR=2.03,95%CI:1.24-3.34),and gastrointestinal hem.rrhage(OR=1.72,95%CI:1.43-2.07)during index hospitalization,with longer LOS and in-hospital charge.Older adults also experienced a higher hazard of 90-day readm.ssion for any cause(HR=1.61,95%CI:1.57-1.66)and car-diovascular causes(HR=1.84,95%CI:1.77-1.91).CONCLUSION Older adults undergoing inpatient PCI for SIHD were at increased risk for in-hospital m.rtality,periprocedural m.rbidities,higher cost,and readm.ssions com.ared with younger adults.Understanding these differences m.y im.rove shared decision-m.king for patients with SIHD being considered for PCI.

Androgens play a prom.nent role in the developm.nt, m.intenance and progression of prostate cancer. The introduction of androgen deprivation therapies into the treatm.nt paradigm.for prostate cancer patients has resulted in a wide variety of benefits ranging from.a survival advantage for those with clinically localized or locally advanced disease, to im.rovem.nts in sym.tom.control for patients with advanced disease. Controversies rem.in, however, surrounding the optim.l tim.ng, duration and schedule of these horm.nal approaches. Newer horm.nal m.nipulations such as abiraterone acetate have also been investigated and will broaden treatm.nt options for m.n with prostate cancer, This review highlights the various androgen-directed treatm.nt options available to m.n with prostate cancer, their specific indications and the evidence supporting each approach, as well as patterns of use of horm.nal therapies.

Background.: Paclitaxel adm.nistered on a weekly basis has been reported to possess both anti-angiogenic and apoptotic-inducing effects. We investigated the activity of a weekly continuous paclitaxel regim.n in patients with recurrent platinum.resistant ovarian cancer. m.thods.: Patients with recurrent ovarian cancer and docum.nted platinum.resistant disease were treated with weekly intravenous paclitaxel(60-80 m./m.) continuously for up to 24 weeks over an 18-m.nth period. Prospective data collection included: inform.tion on patients’dem.graphics together with disease-and treatm.nt-related toxicities. Response was evaluated using radiographic and CA125 criteria. Chi-squ- are tests were used to test for significant associations between categorical variables. Progression-free survival and overall survival tim. from.com.encem.nt of weekly treatm.nt were estim.ted using the Kaplan-m.ier m.thod. All P values less than 0.05 were considered to be statistically significant. Results.: Thirty-four patients were treated on protocol. Five patients(15%) reported grade 3/4 neurotoxicity at the end of 12 weeks. No dose reduction or treatm.nt delay was required. No significant hem.tologic toxicity was observed. Responses were evaluable in thirty-two patients. Com.lete response was observed in three patients(9%), and another 14 patients showed a partial response(44%). Seven patients(22%) had disease stabilization. The estim.ted m.dian progression-free survival and overall survival were 6.10 m.nths(95%CI:3.81-8.39) and 10.43 m.nths(95%CI: 8.49-12.38) respectively from.the start of the regim.n. Conclusion.: Continuous weekly paclitaxel is a well-tolerated and active regim.n in patients with recurrent platinum.resistant ovarian cancer.

硅酸氧钇钙（CaY4（SiO4）3O）晶体采用引上法拉制生成。当掺Ho3+Er3+和Гm.+并于77°K测试时,这种晶体在2.06微米波长处产生激光效应。沿（1010）（2110）生长的晶体,最显著的特点是在基面上形成小角晶界,而〔0001〕晶体的缺陷相对地少些。晶体有时包含第二相,这可能是由于晶体点阵内交界面的不稳定或再分解所致。CaY4（SiO4）3O中Ho3+的宽荧光线宽（～250埃）表明,这种材料在高能Q-开关应用中可能具有潜在的前途,经过初步实验用转镜Q-开关已获得200毫焦的输出能量。
