3D Surface Digitization in Scientific Research and Product Development

This comprehensive review participates in the use of three different non-invasive surface scanning techniques directed in scientific research of medical, anthropology, archaeology forensic science, and product designing. 3D surface examining tools speak to a promising technique to provide reproducible data such as map the facial soft or hard tissues of a subject document skeletal remains, and trauma, generating 3D imitations of the components for documented and illustrative purposes while simultaneously holding exactness and unwavering quality. Three-dimensional imaging is rapidly turning into a vital tool for reconstruction and examination in scientific research. The final 3D mesh can be 3D printed or the digital version can be shared online with scientific researchers. This review manuscript highlights several studies utilizing non-invasive scanning techniques, depicts the pro and cons of the 3D scanning techniques, and different features of the scanners irrespective of the cost which would be helpful for future research work. A resourceful review was conducted using 7 databases;PubMed, CENTRAL, Science Direct, Scopus, Google Scholar, Research Gate, and IEEE Xplore from 2002 to 2020. Search terms were;“3D Laser scanning”, “Photogrammetry”, “Skeleton preservation”, “Documentation”, “Surface Scanning”, etc. Papers with quality work and related to the field of forensic science, anthropometry, 3D facial scanning, and product development were selected. From all the studies, 71 studies met the eligibility criteria, and other articles were excluded which were non-relevant, had duplicate records, and did not meet search criteria. This review provides in-depth understanding and discussions into methods, restrictions, and inferences from respective research publications.

Conservation agriculture impact for soil conservation in maize-wheat cropping system in the Indian sub-Himalayas

Conservation agriculture(CA)is considered as a suitable technique for soil erosion control,productivity enhancement,and improved economic *** investigate these issues,an experiment was conducted under rainfed conditions using grass vegetation strip(VS)with minimum tillage,organic amendments and weed mulch during June 2007-October 2011 at Dehradun,Uttarakhand in the Indian Himalayan *** showed that the mean wheat equivalent yield was47%higher in the plots under with CA compared with conventional agriculture in a maize-wheat crop *** runoff coefficients and soil loss with CA plots were45%less and54%less than conventional agriculture *** average,after the harvest of maize,soil moisture conservation up to 90 cm soil depth for wheat crop was 108%higher under CA than conventional agriculture *** net return from the plots with CA was 85%higher,and when expressed net return per tonne of soil loss,it was four and half times higher than conventional *** demonstrate that the suitable CA practice(a grass strip of Palmarosa with applied organic amendments(farmyard manure,vermicompost and poultry manure)along with weed mulching under conservation tillage)enhances system productivity,reduces runoff,soil loss and conserve soil moisture.&2015 International Research and Training Center on Erosion and Sedimentation and China Water and Power *** and Hosting by Elsevier *** is an open access article under the CC BY-NC-ND license(http://***/licenses/by-nc-nd/4.0/).

Fungal Remains from the Subathu Formation of Dogadda, Uttarakhand, India

The present paper deals with the new record of fungal remains from the Subathu Formation exposed along Dogadda-Kotdwar road section in Dogadda, Uttarakhand. The assemblage is composed of 13 species assignable to 10 genera. The important genera are Callimothallus senii, Haplopeltis mucoris, Haplopeltis sp., Parmathyrites sp., Phragmothyrites eocaenicus, Plochmopeltinites sp., Spinosporonites saxenae, Spinosporonites angularis and Trichothyrites padappakkarensis. The presence of microthyriaceous fungi in dominance suggests that the region experienced a warm and humid climate during the course of sediment deposition with thick vegetation providing suitable substrates for the growth and proliferation of fungi. Their presence depicts the prevalence of moist tropical type of vegetation during deposition in the area. The present fungal assemblage is assigned Late Palaeocene-Middle Eocene age.

An Early Experience of Stapled Hemorrhoidectomy in a Medical College Setting

Background: Stapled hemorrhoidectomy, popularly known as Longo technique is in use for the treatment of hemorrhoids since its first description to surgical fraternity in the world congress of endoscopic surgeons in 1998. Objectives: To evaluate the feasibility, patient acceptance, recurrence and results of stapled haemorrhoidectomy in our early experience. Methods: Between Jan 2012 and Dec 2013, 42 patients with symptomatic GRADE III and IV hemorrhoids were operated by stapled hemorrhoidectomy by a single surgeon at our surgery department. The evaluation of this technique was done by assessing the feasibility of the surgery;and recording operative time, postoperative pain, complications, hospital stay, return to work and recurrence. Results: All the procedures were completed successfully. The mean (range) operative time was 30 (20 - 45) min. The blood loss was minimal. Mean (range) length of hospitalization for the entire group was 1 (1 - 3) days. Only 3 patients required more than 1 injection of diclofenac (75 mg) while as rest of the patients were quite happy switching over to oral diclofenac (50 mg) just after a single parenteral dose. All the patients returned to their routine work in less than a week’s time. The mean (range) follow-up was 6 (4 - 12) months. There were no major intraoperative or postoperative complications except for retention of urine in 8 patients. The patients are still on regular follow-up and have not had recurrence as yet. Conclusion: Stapled hemorrhoidectomy technique is a safe alternative to the traditional Milligan-Morgan technique. It can be performed as an office procedure, is well tolerated by patients and is cost effective than conventional surgical therapy.

Retinopathy of prematurity(ROP)is an emerging cause of childhood blindness in the developing *** low and middle-income countries are facing common challenges in the midst of the‘third epidemic’of *** in neonatal care facilities has increased survival of preterm *** of awareness and non-uniform standards of care in the ever-increasing number of neonatal intensive care units(NICUs)and special newborn care units(SNCUs)has resulted in this surge of *** from low birth weight and the degree of prematurity,use of unblended supplemental oxygen,sepsis,anemia and blood transfusion are important risk factors associated with ROP in developing *** forms of aggressive posterior ROP(APROP)are seen in heavier birth weight babies in the developing *** of ROP by good quality neonatal care,timely diagnosis by mandatory ROP screening in NICUs and training manpower for laser treatment of ROP requires close collaboration between the neonatologists,ophthalmologists and the policy *** approach and inter-disciplinary co-ordination are keys in a nation’s drive to fight this preventable cause of blindness.

Characteristic of Ionospheric foF2 and Solar Indices during the 23rd Solar Cycle over High Latitude Station, Syowa, Antarctica

The behavior and dynamics of ionosphere are completely dependent on the solar activity. We have investigated the long term variability of ionospheric parameter foF2 with corresponding changes in the solar activity during the 23rd solar cycle. The variation of the critical frequency of ionospheric foF2 at Syowa Station Antarctica, (69°S, 39°E) is examined with four different solar activity indices characterizing the long term variability of solar activity wise Flare Index, relative sunspot number (Rz), solar flux F10.7 cm and CME occurrence index. We compared the dependency of foF2 and other solar activity indices on each other by using linear correlation investigation, and showed the qualitative similarity of the ionospheric foF2 with the solar indices. We notice that hysteresis of foF2 is lower for the growing branches of the solar cycle. The individual dissimilarity of critical frequency foF2 demonstrated the dependency on the solar cycle but this variation was different during the months, which depended on solar activity and polar ionospheric behavior. The peak to peak variation between monthly average of critical frequency foF2 and solar indices parameter is evidence for the absolute dependency for each other. The linear correlation between the solar indices and foF2 is very strong during the climbing and downward branches of the solar cycle. However the incline of their linear fits shows variations from index to index.

Vitiligo usually begins in childhood with approximately half of the patients manifesting onset of disease prior to the age of 20 years. Treatment options in this age group are few and have disappointing response rates. This study was designed to evaluate the role of narrow-band UVB in the treatment of generalized vitiligo in children. Twenty-six children (aged 5-14 years) with generalized vitiligo (minimal extent of depigmentation of 5%oftheskin)were treated three times per week with narrow-band UVB therapy for a maximum period of 1 year. Of 26 patients, 6 were lost to follow up and 20 (7 males, 13 females) completed the study. At the end of 1 year of therapy, 15 (75%) patients developed marked to complete repigmentation. Moderate and mild repigmentation was noted in four (20%) and one (5%) patients, respectively. An average number of 34 (±2) treatment visits was required to achieve 50%repigmentation. Adverse events were mild and transient. Narrow-band UVB is an effective and well-tolerated treatment option for childhood vitiligo.
