Glaucoma,a prevalent and debilitating eye disease,has long been associated with vision impairment and blindness.However,recent research has shed light on the often-underestimated psychological dimensions of this condition.Anxiety and depression,two pervasive psychiatric comorbidities,have been increasingly recognized among glaucoma patients.This comprehensive review aims to explore the intricate relationship between psychiatry and ophthalmology,in the context of managing depression and anxiety in glaucoma patients.By meticulously examining peer-reviewed literature,we synthesize current knowledge on the prevalence,risk factors,and underlying mechanisms of anxiety and depression in glaucoma.The evidence reveals that glaucoma patients face an elevated risk of experiencing these mood disorders.Factors such as progressive vision loss,complex medication regimens,and the fear of further visual deterioration contribute to their vulnerability.Moreover,we delve into the bidirectional relationship between glaucoma and mood disorders,shedding light on the complex interplay between ocular and emotional health.Our review investigates the implications of anxiety and depression on glaucoma management,including their potential impact on treatment adherence,disease progression,and overall quality of life.We also explore the neurobiological pathways linking glaucoma and mood disorders,providing a foundation for future research and potential therapeutic interventions.In conclusion,recognizing the psychological burden carried by glaucoma patients is essential for holistic and patient-centered care.This review underscores the pressing need for integrated approaches that bring together ophthalmological and psychiatric expertise to optimize the well-being of individuals facing the challenges of glaucoma.By addressing anxiety and depression in glaucoma care,healthcare providers can enhance the overall quality of life for these patients,ultimately leading to improved outcomes and a brighter future for those affected by this condition.This

Deciphering the role of rGO in tuning dielectric properties of Er_(2)O_(3)/ZnO/rGO nanocomposites synthesized via facile approach

The present research investigated the effect of reduced graphene oxide(rGO) integration with assynthesized Er_(2)O_(3)/ZnO nanocomposites on dielectric properties. The samples were characterized by Xray diffraction(XRD), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy(FTIR), scanning electron microscopy(SEM), diffuse reflectance spectroscopy(DRS), and energy dispersive spectroscopy(EDS). Complex impedance spectroscopy was utilized to characterize dielectric relaxation phenomena in Er_(2)O_(3)/ZnO and Er_(2)O_(3)/ZnO/rGO nanocomposites. All the samples exhibit single relaxation phenomena which are ascribed to grain boundaries. The addition of rGO to Er_(2)O_(3)/ZnO nanocomposite results in the enhancement of dielectric response due to increased local field intensity caused by the formation of conductinginsulating interfaces. Furthermore, the AC conductivity of the Er_(2)O_(3)/ZnO/rGO is increased at higher frequencies due to the presence of free charge carriers in rGO. At higher frequencies, Er_(2)O_(3)/ZnO/rGO nanocomposite with increased concentration of ZnO exhibits a more stable dielectric constant with extremely low dielectric loss. Hence, the inclusion of rGO in Er_(2)O_(3)/ZnO nanocomposites makes it a novel prospective candidate in the field of energy storage devices.

Development of small intestinal barrier function and underlying mechanism in Chinese indigenous and Duroc piglets during suckling and weaning periods

This study explored the developmental changes in small intestinal barrier function and the potential regulatory roles of intestinal microbiota and metabolites in different breeds of piglets during suckling and weaning periods. Taoyuan black(TB), Xiangcun black(XB), and Duroc(DR) piglets(10 litters per breed; half male and half female) were selected for sampling to evaluate the intestinal barrier-related indexes and intestinal microbiota and metabolites at 1, 10, 21(weaned), and 24(3 d after weaning)d old. The results showed that weaning led to severe shedding of small intestinal microvilli and sparse microvilli arrangement. D-lactate level in the ileum of TB and XB piglets during suckling and weaning periods was lower(P < 0.01) than that of DR piglets, as well as the ileal diamine oxidase level at 1 d old.The expression level of mucin 1 was higher(P < 0.05) in the ileum of TB and XB piglets than that of DR piglets, and it was the highest in the ileum of TB piglets at 21 d old. The expression levels of mucin 2 and mucin 13 were higher(P < 0.10) in TB and XB piglets than those of DR piglets at 21 d old, whereas mucin2 and mucin 13 in the ileum of TB and XB piglets were higher(P < 0.05) than those of DR piglets at 24 d old. TB and XB piglets had a lower relative abundance of Escherichia＿Shigella at 21 and 24 d old, but they had higher Streptococcus at 1 and 24 d old than DR piglets(P < 0.01). Differential metabolites between the three breeds of piglets were mainly related to oxidative phosphorylation, steroid biosynthesis, and bile acid synthesis. Collectively, these findings suggest that different pig breeds present differences in the development of the small intestinal barrier function. Compared with DR piglets, TB and XB piglets had higher intestinal permeability during the suckling period and a stronger intestinal mechanical barrier after weaning. Moreover, intestinal microbiota and metabolites are the key factors for developing small intestinal barrier functions in different breeds of piglets.

ZnO Incorporated Acrylamide Grafted Chitosan Based Composite Film for Advanced Wound Healing Applications

This study was carried out to prepare ZnO nanoparticles incorporated acrylamide grafted chitosan composite film for possible biomedical application especially drug loading in wound healing. ZnO nanoparticles were prepared by co-precipitation method from zinc acetate di-hydrate and incorporated in acrylamide grafted chitosan. FT-IR and TGA of the prepared composite film confirmed the successful incorporation of ZnO nanoparticles in the acrylamide-grafted polymer matrix. SEM images showed that the ZnO nanoparticles were homogeneously distributed on the porous matrix of the composite film. Water uptake and buffer uptake analysis revealed that the composite film could hold water and buffer sufficiently, which facilitated the absorption of exudate from the wound site. Amoxicillin was loaded in the prepared composite film and the maximum loading efficiency was found to be 67.33% with drug concentration of 300 ppm. In vitro studies showed greater antimicrobial activity of drug-loaded composite film compared to both pure film and standard antibiotic disc. Finally, the In vivo mouse model showed maximum healing efficiency compared to conventional gauge bandages because the loading of antibiotic in the film produced a synergistic effect and healing time was reduced.

Background: Emergence agitation (EA) is a common phenomenon observed in pediatric patients following general anesthesia. This study aimed to assess the efficacy of propofol and fentanyl in preventing EA and to compare their associated complications or side effects. Methods: This prospective randomized observational comparative study was conducted at Dhaka Medical College Hospital from July 2013 to June 2014. The study aimed to evaluate the effects of propofol and fentanyl on EA in children aged 18 to 72 months undergoing circumcision, herniotomy, and polypectomy operations. Ninety children were included in the study, with 45 in each group. Patients with psychological or neurological disorders were excluded. Various parameters including age, sex, weight, American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) class, duration of anesthesia, Saturation of Peripheral Oxygen (SPO2), heart rate (HR), respiratory rate (RR), Pediatric Anesthesia Emergence Delirium (PAED) score, duration of post-anesthesia care unit (PACU) stay, incidence of laryngospasm, nausea, vomiting, and rescue drug requirement were compared between the two groups. Results: Age, sex, weight, ASA class, and duration of anesthesia were comparable between the two groups. Perioperative SpO2 and HR were similar in both groups. However, the PAED score was significantly higher in the fentanyl group during all follow-ups except at 30 minutes postoperatively. The mean duration of PACU stay was significantly longer in the fentanyl group. Although the incidence of laryngospasm was higher in the fentanyl group, it was not statistically significant. Conversely, nausea or vomiting was significantly higher in the fentanyl group. The requirement for rescue drugs was significantly higher in the fentanyl group compared to the propofol group. Conclusion: Both propofol and fentanyl were effective in preventing emergence agitation in pediatric patients undergoing various surgical procedures under sevoflurane anesthesia. Meteorological drought in semi-arid regions:A case study of Iran

Drought occurs in almost all climate zones and is characterized by prolonged water deficiency due to unbalanced demand and supply of water,persistent insufficient precipitation,lack of moisture,and high evapotranspiration.Drought caused by insufficient precipitation is a temporary and recurring meteorological event.Precipitation in semi-arid regions is different from that in other regions,ranging from 50 to 750 mm.In general,the semi-arid regions in the west and north of Iran received more precipitation than those in the east and south.The Terrestrial Climate(TerraClimate)data,including monthly precipitation,minimum temperature,maximum temperature,potential evapotranspiration,and the Palmer Drought Severity Index(PDSI)developed by the University of Idaho,were used in this study.The PDSI data was directly obtained from the Google Earth Engine platform.The Standardized Precipitation Index(SPI)and the Standardized Precipitation Evapotranspiration Index(SPEI)on two different scales were calculated in time series and also both SPI and SPEI were shown in spatial distribution maps.The result showed that normal conditions were a common occurrence in the semi-arid regions of Iran over the majority of years from 2000 to 2020,according to a spatiotemporal study of the SPI at 3-month and 12-month time scales as well as the SPEI at 3-month and 12-month time scales.Moreover,the PDSI detected extreme dry years during 2000-2003 and in 2007,2014,and 2018.In many semi-arid regions of Iran,the SPI at 3-month time scale is higher than the SPEI at 3-month time scale in 2000,2008,2014,2015,and 2018.In general,this study concluded that the semi-arid regions underwent normal weather conditions from 2000 to 2020.In a way,moderate,severe,and extreme dry occurred with a lesser percentage,gradually decreasing.According to the PDSI,during 2000-2003 and 2007-2014,extreme dry struck practically all hot semi-arid regions of Iran.Several parts of the cold semi-arid regions,on the other hand,only experienced moderate to severe dry from 2000 to 20

Religiosity and bank earnings management:Revisiting international evidence

The modernization theory forecasts a sharp declining effect of institutionalized religion on human behavior owing to the extensive economic development.However,this prediction is rejected and proved that religious values and beliefs have a pervasive influence on individual conduct.Based on this salient evidence,we examine the influence of religious social norms on bank earnings management behavior with regard to ongoing economic development.We use 20,715 bank-year observations from 1318 listed banks of eight geographical regions.We,further,employ an updated dataset of 2007-2021 to resemble the economic prosperity time period.Our study discards the prediction of the modernization theory and reveals that banks located in countries with high religiosity are less likely to manage their reported earnings.While comparing conventional banks with Islamic ones,conventional banks are found to be less prone to the earnings management practice than that of their Islamic counterparts.We also find religiosity to have a greater magnitude of effect on the accounting manipulation in the crisis period than in the post-crisis one.The cross-regional differences in religious values bring differential effects on this unethical practice.Our results are robust with the alternative measures of earnings management and alternative model specifications.

Case study of hydraulic fracturing in an offshore carbonate oil reservoir

Maximizing petroleum production while efficiently managing the operational costs is the oil and gas industry's primary goal which requires innovative engineering approaches and production-enhancing treatments such as hydraulic fracturing(HF).During the HF process,the injected fluid mixed with sands or proppants will create permanent fluid channels to drain more of the reservoir volume.The level of complexity and various constraints involved in real field treatments have made HF even more chal-lenging in layered carbonate reservoirs with the water drive mechanism.A prominent concern is the downward fracture growth to the oil/water contact zone that may cause unfavorable water cut levels.This fracture height confinement criterion necessitates optimization of fracture dimension design.Fracture height development is mainly a function of in-situ stress conditions and stress magnitude differences between geologic layers.In cases with a water table at the proximity of the wellbore,fracture height directly affects the operational success.This paper demonstrates a practical step-by-step approach towards the design of hydraulic fracturing treatment in an offshore carbonate oil reservoir.The modeling process involves optimization of the location,number,and conductivity of the proposed fractures.In-jection of high viscosity fluid causes a bi-wing vertical planar fracture to propagate perpendicular to the direction of minimum horizontal stress in the strike-slip faulting regime.Dimensions of the induced hydraulic fractures are also impacted by the amount and type of proppants.However,as with this case study,the magnitude of vertical stress is in the same range as the maximum horizontal stress;the fracture height growth is the limiting factor.The LGR method is used to define fractures in the dynamic reservoir model which has been built based on a complete set of data ranging from the analyses of logs,core samples,and seismic details,to perform production forecasts and economic evaluation.Then a hydraulic fracture software is i

Intrauterine growth retardation affects liver bile acid metabolism in growing pigs:effects associated with the changes of colonic bile acid derivatives

Background:Intrauterine growth retardation(IUGR)is associated with severely impaired nutrient metabolism and intestinal development of pigs.Our previous study found that IUGR altered intestinal microbiota and metabolites in the colon.However,the consequences of IUGR on bile acid metabolism in pigs remained unclear.The present study aimed to investigate the bile acid metabolism in the liver and the profile of bile acid derivatives in the colon of grow-ing pigs with IUGR using bile acid targeted metabolomics.Furthermore,we determined correlations between colonic microbiota composition and metabolites of IUGR and normal birth weight(NBW)pigs at different growth stages that were 7,21,and 28-day-old,and the average body weight(BW)of 25,50,and 100 kg of the NBW pigs.Results:The results showed that the plasma total bile acid concentration was higher(P<0.05)at the 25 kg BW stage and tended to increase(P=0.08)at 28-day-old in IUGR pigs.The hepatic gene expressions related to bile acid synthe-sis(CYP7A1,CYP27A1,and NTCP)were up-regulated(P<0.05),and the genes related to glucose and lipid metabolism(ATGL,HSL,and PC)were down-regulated(P<0.05)at the 25 kg BW stage in IUGR pigs when compared with the NBW group.Targeted metabolomics analysis showed that 29 bile acids and related compounds were detected in the colon of pigs.The colonic concentrations of dehydrolithocholic acid and apocholic acid were increased(P<0.05),while isodeoxycholic acid and 6,7-diketolithocholic acid were decreased(P<0.05)in IUGR pigs,when compared with the NBW pigs at the 25 kg BW stage.Moreover,Spearman’s correlation analysis revealed that colonic Unclassified_[Mogi-bacteriaceae],Lachnospira,and Slackia abundances were negatively correlated(P<0.05)with dehydrolithocholic acid,as well as the Unclassified_Clostridiaceae abundance with 6,7-diketolithocholic acid at the 25 kg BW stage.Conclusions:These findings suggest that IUGR could affect bile acid and glucolipid metabolism in growing pigs,especially at the 25 kg BW stage,these effects being paralleled

Getting consumable water to individuals has been a continuous challenge worldwide.Contaminated or non⁃purified water sources are responsible for the bulk of human illnesses.The demand for water purification that does not harm the biological system is urgent.Sun⁃based desalination is one of the effective water purification methods creating ultra⁃pure refined water.Sun⁃based still refining frameworks offer maintainable devices for a freshwater generation.Diverse plans were tried by analysts to move forward the efficiency of sun⁃powered still.According to the experiments,solar still coordinates outside or inside the condenser is considered to be a valid and successful plan.This survey hopes to show,explain,and study the performance of several solar stills combined with diverse condenser designs.
