Predictors of clinical outcomes after non-operative management of symptomatic full-thickness rotator cuff tears

Allograft tissue irradiation and failure rate after anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction:A systematic review

AIM:To evaluate whether anterior cruciate ligament(ACL) allograft irradiation is effective for sterility without compromising graft integrity and increasing failure ***:A literature search was conducted using Pub Med,Cochrane,and *** following search terms were used:"Gamma irradiation AND anterior cruciate ligament AND allograft" with a return of 30 *** used included:English language,years *** were 6 hits that were not reviewed,as there were only abstracts *** 5 hits were discarded,as they did not pertain to the topic of *** were 9 more articles that were excluded:Three studies were performed on animals and 6 studies were ***,a total of 10 articles were applicable to ***:There is a delicate dosing crossover where gamma irradiation is both effective for sterility without catastrophically compromising the structural integrity of the *** note,low dose irradiation is considered less than 2.0 Mrad,moderate dose is between 2.1-2.4 Mrad,and high dose is greater than or equal to 2.5 *** upon the results of the literature search,the optimal threshold for sterilization was found to be sterilization at less than 2.2 Mrad of gamma irradiation with the important caveat of being performed at low *** graft selection process also must include thorough donor screening and testing as well as harvesting the tissue in a sterile *** of higher dose(≥ 2.5 Mrad) of irradiation causes greater allograft tissue laxity that results in greater graft failure rate clinically in patients after ACL ***:Allograft ACL graft gamma irradiatedwith less than 2.2 Mrad appears to be a reasonable alternative to autograft for patients above 25 years of age.

Modeling of All-Optical Even and Odd Parity Generator Circuits Using Metal-Insulator-Metal Plasmonic Waveguides

Plasmonic metal-insulator-metal （MIM） waveguides sustain excellent property of confining the surface plasmons up to a deep subwavelength scale. In this paper, linear and S-shaped MIM waveguides are cascaded together to design the model of Mach-Zehnder interferometer （MZI）. Nonlinear material has been used for switching of light across its output ports. The structures of even and odd parity generators are projected by cascading the MZIs. Parity generator and checker circuit are used for error correction and detection in an optical communication system. Study and analysis of proposed designs are carried out by using the MATLAB simulation and finite-difference- time-domain （FDTD） method.

Repercussions of solar high energy protons on ozone layer during super storms

We are very aware of the importance of the ozone layer, without which life on the Earth would not have evolved in the way it has. Solar storms carry energetic protons into the Earth's upper atmosphere,where they boost production of nitrogen oxides which are known as ozone killers and which ultimately increase ultraviolet(UV) radiations. In the present study, we estimate the effects of solar energetic protons during super storms(Dst index <-300 nT) over the total ozone column for the last 32 yr. We select a total of seven super storm events that occurred during solar cycles 22–24(for the last 32 yr) having Dst index <-300 nT. To that end, we apply superposed epoch analysis(SEA) to verify the impact of storm events on the quantitative variation of total ozone column and on UV radiations during super storm *** completing the empirical analysis, we conclude that the ozone column gets depleted significantly(22±6.8%) as proton density increases during super storm events and this decrement in the ozone level is further responsible for a substantial increase(26±11.2%) in peak UV radiation intensities.

Plant disease detection using hybrid model based on convolutional autoencoder and convolutional neural network

Plants are susceptive to various diseases in their growing *** detection of diseases in plants is one of the most challenging problems in *** the diseases are not identified in the early stages,then theymay adversely affect the total yield,resulting in a decrease in the farmers'*** overcome this problem,many researchers have presented different state-of-the-art systems based on Deep Learning and Machine Learning ***,most of these systems either use millions of training parameters or have lowclassification *** paper proposes a novel hybrid model based on Convolutional Autoencoder(CAE)network and Convolutional Neural Network(CNN)for automatic plant disease *** the best of our knowledge,a hybrid system based on CAE and CNN to detect plant diseases automatically has not been proposed in any state-ofthe-art systems present in the *** this work,the proposed hybrid model is applied to detect Bacterial Spot disease present in peach plants using their leaf images,however,it can be used for any plant disease *** experiments performed in this paper use a publicly available dataset named PlantVillage to get the leaf images of peach *** proposed system achieves 99.35%training accuracy and 98.38%testing accuracy using only 9,914 training *** proposed hybrid model requires lesser number of training parameters as compared to other approaches existing in the ***,in turn,significantly decreases the time required to train the model for automatic plant disease detection and the time required to identify the disease in plants using the trained model.

Horizontal gas mixing in rectangular fluidized bed:A novel method for gas dispersion coefficients in various conditions and distributor designs

In a rectangular fluidized bed combustor, the tracer gas is injected continuously into the bed from a point source at the center of the distributor plate. In this study, a general governing equation is formulated for tracer gas dispersion in the bed. An analytical solution is derived to estimate the dispersion coefficients, Dxand Dy, in a horizontal plane. The concentration profiles at different sampling heights with various gas velocities are ***, to estimate the dispersion coefficients, surface fitting of the obtained analytical solution to the experimental data is performed. The dispersion coefficients obtained from this model are compared with those of a conventional model. Additionally, the effect of walls, bed height and gas injection rate on the dispersion coefficients in a horizontal plane is investigated, and the effect of distributor design on the dispersion coefficients in a horizontal plane is investigated with different tracer positions. It is found that Dxand Dyare nearly equivalent at a lower tracer gas ratio of the injected gas to the total gas flow rate. It is also demonstrated that the effect of bed height on Dxis minor. This model is also able to estimate the dispersion coefficients in the case of a multihorizontal nozzle distributor.

Development of Optimized Phenomic Predictors for Efficient Plant Breeding Decisions Using Phenomic-Assisted Selection in Soybean

The rate of advancement made in phenomic-assisted breeding methodologies has lagged those of genomic-assisted techniques,which is now a critical component of mainstream cultivar development ***,advancements made in phenotyping technologies have empowered plant scientists with affordable high-dimensional datasets to optimize the operational efficiencies of breeding *** and seed yield data was collected across six environments for a panel of 292 soybean accessions with varying genetic *** forest,a machine learning(ML)algorithm,was used to map complex relationships between phenomic traits and seed yield and prediction performance assessed using two cross-validation(CV)scenarios consistent with breeding *** develop a prescriptive sensor package for future high-throughput phenotyping deployment to meet breeding objectives,feature importance in tandem with a genetic algorithm(GA)technique allowed selection of a subset of phenotypic traits,specifically optimal *** results illuminated the capability of fusingML and optimization techniques to identify a suite of in-season phenomic traits that will allow breeding programs to decrease the dependence on resource-intensive end-season phenotyping(e.g.,seed yield harvest).While we illustrate with soybean,this study establishes a template for deploying multitrait phenomic prediction that is easily amendable to any crop species and any breeding objective。

Effect of Ni^(7+) Ion Irradiation on Structure and Ammonia Sensing Properties of Thermally Oxidized Zinc and Indium Films

ZnO and In203 films were prepared by thermal oxidation of vacuum deposited zinc and indium films, respec- tively onto the glass substrate at 30 ℃. The fabricated films have been irradiated with 100-MeV Ni7＋ ions at different fluences ranging from 5×1011 to 5×1013 ions/cm2. The structural and gas sensing properties of pristine and irradiated films have been discussed. X-ray diffraction （XRD） pattern of pristine and irradiated films reveal that the films are polycrystalline in nature and crystallinity increases after irradiation. In this study, highly porous In203 nanorods evolved when being irradiated at a fluence of 5×1013 ions/cm2 while ZnO film shows decrease in number of nanowires. The ammonia sensing performance of the Ni^7＋ irradiated In203 films shows an improvement as compared to its pristine counterpart.

A Multi-Threaded Semantic Focused Crawler

The Web comprises of voluminous rich learning content. The volume of ever growing learning resources however leads to the problem of information overload. A large number of irrelevant search results generated from search engines based on keyword matching techniques further augment the problem. A learner in such a scenario needs semantically matched learning resources as the search results. Keeping in view the volume of content and significance of semantic knowledge, our paper proposes a multi-threaded semantic focused crawler （SFC） specially designed and implemented to crawl on the WWW for educational learning content. The proposed SFC utilizes domain ontology to expand a topic term and a set of seed URLs to initiate the crawl. The results obtained by multiple iterations of the crawl on various topics are shown and compared with the results obtained by executing an open source crawler on the similar dataset. The results are evaluated using Semantic Similarity, a vector space model based metric, and the harvest ratio.
