This paper presents preliminary data on a series of building comfort experiments conducted in the *** performed physical in-situ measurements and solicited responses from 409(184 female;225 male)university students in six different classrooms at the University of Massachusetts-Amherst during three seasons(fall,winter and spring).Our questions focused on student perception of comfort in varied environmental(temperature and humidity,and air speed)*** collected records of student academic performance in the classes,correlating their comfort perceptions to their test *** analysis of classroom environ-mental variables,thermal satisfaction,and student scores suggest that by enhancing thermal comfort,we can improve academic performance.

We present new lemmas,theorem and corollaries to construct interactions among higher-order rogue waves,n-periodic waves and n-solitons solutions(n→∞)to the(2+1)-dimensional asymmetric Nizhnik-Novikov-Veselov(ANNV)*** examples for theories are given by choosing definite interactions of the wave solutions for the *** particular,we exhibit dynamical interactions between a rogue and a cross bright-dark bell wave,a rogue and a cross-bright bell wave,a rogue and a one-,two-,three-,four-periodic *** addition,we also present multi-types interactions between a rogue and a periodic cross-bright bell wave,a rogue and a periodic cross-bright-bark bell ***,we physically explain such interaction solutions of the model in the 3D and density plots.

Genetic intervention via the delivery of functional genes such as plasmid DNA(pDNA)and short-interfering RNA(siRNA)offers a great way to treat many single or multiple genetic defects effectively,including mammary *** of naked therapeutic genes or siRNAs is,however,short-lived due to biological clearance by scavenging nucleases and circulating *** cellular internalization of negatively-charged nucleic acids further causes low transfection or silencing *** of safe and effectual gene vectors is therefore undeniably crucial to the success of nucleic acid *** nanoparticles have attracted considerable attention in the recent years due to their high loading capacity and encapsulation *** we introduce strontium salt-based nanoparticles,namely,strontium sulfate,strontium sulfite and strontium fluoride as new inorganic *** strontium salt particles were found to be nanosized with high affinity towards negatively-charged pDNA and *** of the particles was seen with a drop in pH,suggesting their capacity to respond to pH change and undergo dissolution at endosomal pH to release the genetic *** the particles are relatively nontoxic towards the cells,siRNA-loaded SrF 2 and SrSO 3 particles exerted superior transgene expression and knockdown activity of MAPK and AKT,leading to inhibition of their phosphorylation to a distinctive extent in both MCF-7 and 4T1 *** salt nanoparticles have thus emerged as a promising tool for applications in cancer gene therapy.

The frequency dependent dielectric properties of barium magnesium tantalate （BMT）, Ba（Mgl/3Ta2/3）03 and barium zinc tantalate （BZT）, Ba（Znl/3Ta2/3）03 synthesized by solid state reaction technique have been investigated at various temperatures by impedance spectroscopy. BMT and BZT possess cubic structure with lattice parameter a = 0.708 and 0.451 nm, respectively. The resonance peaks due to dielectric relaxation processes are observed in the loss tangent of these oxides. The relaxation in the samples is polydispersive in nature. The temperature dependence of dc conductivity, the most probable relaxation frequency （corn） obtained from tanδ vs logo） plots and ωm obtained from imaginary parts of the complex electrical modulus vs Iogω plots follow the Arrhenius behavior. According to these Arrhenius plots the activation energies of BMT and BZT are about 0.54 and 0.40 eV, respectively. Thus the results indicate that samples are semiconducting in nature. The frequency-dependent electrical data are analyzed in the framework of conductivity and electric modulus formalisms. Both these formalisms show qualitative similarities in relaxation time. Our study points that for complex perovskite oxides with general formula A（B＇B＇）03, the dielectric properties significantly depend on the atomic radii of both A and B type cations. BMT and BZT exhibit enhancement in dielectric property compared to their niobate counterparts. They may find several technological applications such as in capacitors, resonators and filters owing to their high dielectric constant and low loss tangent.

Esophageal adenocarcinoma is increasing in the US and Western countries and frequent gastresophageal reflux or gastresophageal reflux disease carrying gastric acid and bile acid could contribute to esophageal adenocarcinogenesis. This study was designed to detect the expression of gastric acid-inducing gene Na＋/H＋ exchanger-1 （NHE-1） ex vivo and then to explore targeting of NHE-1 expression or activity to control esophageal cancer cell viability in vitro and in nude mouse xenografts. The data showed that NHE-1 was highly expressed in esophageal adenocarcinoma tissues （66 of 101 cases [65.3%｜, but not in normal esophageal squamous cell epithelium （1 of 26 cases [3.8~0]）. Knockdown of NHE-1 expression using NHE-1 shRNA or inhibition of NHE-1 activity using the NHE-1 inhibitor amiloride suppressed viability and induced apoptosis in esophageal cancer cells. Molecularly, amiloride inhibited expression of cyclooxygenase-2 and matrix metallopeptidase-9 but not NHE-1 mRNA in esophageal cancer cells. A combination of amiloride and guggulsterone （a natural bile acid receptor inhibitor） showed more than additive effects in suppressing esophageal cancer cell growth in vitro and in nude mouse xenografts. This study suggests that inhibition of NHE-1 expression or activity or combination of amiloride and guggulsterone could be useful in control of esophageal adenocarcinoma.

We investigate the bounded travelling wave solutions of the Biswas-Arshed model(BAM)including the low group velocity dispersion and excluding the self-phase *** integrate the nonlinear structure of the model to obtain bounded optical solitons which pass through the optical fibers in the non-Kerr *** bifurcation technique of the dynamical system is used to achieve the parameter bifurcation sets and split the parameter space into various areaswhich correspond to different phase *** bounded optical solitons and bounded periodic wave solutions are identified and derived conforming to each region of these phase *** also apply the extended sinh-Gordon equation expansion and the generalized Kudryashov integral schemes to obtain additional bounded optical soliton solutions of the BAM *** present more bounded optical shock waves,the bright-dark solitary wave,and optical rogue waves for the structure model via these schemes in different aspects.

Modelling tropical cyclone risks for present and future climate change scenarios using geospatial techniques

Tropical cyclones and their devastating impacts are of great concern to coastal communities *** appropriate approach integrating climate change scenarios at local scales is essential for producing detailed risk models to support cyclone mitigation *** study developed a simple cyclone risk-modelling approach under present and future climate change scenarios using geospatial techniques at local scales,and tested using a case study in Sarankhola Upazila from coastal *** storm-surge models were developed up to 100-year return periods.A local sea level rise scenario of 0.34 m for the year 2050 was integrated with surge models to assess the climate change *** resultant storm-surge models were used in the risk-modelling *** developed risk models successfully identified the spatial extent and levels of risk that match with actual extent and levels within an acceptable limit of *** result showed that cyclone risk areas increased with the increase of return *** study also revealed that climate change scenario intensified the cyclone risk area by 5–10%in every return *** findings indicate this approach has the potential to model cyclone risk in other similar coastal environments for developing mitigation plans and strategies.
