LaSr2A1Os：Sm3＋ phosphors were synthesized by the Pechini-type sol-gel process. The X-ray diffraction pattern revealed that a pure LaSr2AIO5 phase was obtained with a sintering temperature of 1200 ℃. Microstructure characterization showed that the particles were spherical in shape with a mean size of 2.93 μm. Being a candidate orange/red emitting phosphor for orange and white light emitting diodes, LaSr2A1Os：Sm3＋ could be effectively excited by both near-ultraviolet （NUV） and blue lights with typical f-f transitions of Sm3＋ ions. The most intense emission corresponding to 4G5/2---＊6H7/2 （604 nm） could be achieved at the same Sm3＋ concentration of 4 mol.%. The chromaticity coordinates of La0.96Sr2A1Os：0.04Sm3. phosphor under the excitation of 407 and 458 nm were （0.57, 0.43） and （0.59, 0.38）, respectively. Further study was carried out using Van Uitert＇s and Dexter＇s models. A consistent result was obtained that electric dipole-dipole interaction was dominant for the energy transfer among Sm3＋ ions. The critical distance for energy transfer among Sm3＋ ions in LaSr2A105 was calculated to be ca. 1.843 nm.

The title compound, 1-（naphthalene-2-yl）-2-（1H-pyrazol-1-yl）ethanone O-butyl oxime, I, was synthesized. The crystal and molecular structures of I were determined by IR, 1H-NMR, mass spectrum, elemental analysis and X-ray single crystal diffraction. Molecular geometry from X-ray experiment of I in the ground state was compared using the Density Functional Theory （DFT） with B3LYP/6-311G（d,p） basis set. In addition, DFT calculation, molecular electrostatic potentials （MEP） and frontier molecular orbitals of I were performed at the B3LYP/6-311G（d,p） level of the theory.

The probiotic dairy products have become the fastest growing in functional foods market in response to the increasing numbers of consumers interested in improving their ***,data collected from 314 participants in the city of Bursa,Turkey,were analyzed with the aim to assess the socio-demographic characteristics and health status as well as the consumer’s knowledge and awareness of probiotic dairy products in order to gain a better understanding of consumers’*** was observed that sociodemographic characteristics of the participants were not significantly associated with the degree of knowledge or awareness and purchasing frequencies of probiotic dairy *** a higher educational level,higher income level and being a woman indicated an increased the awareness,knowledge and purchase probability of probiotic dairy *** study emphasized that consumers should be more informed about the positive relationship between a healthier life and the consumption of probiotic dairy products.

Fifty-one patients with mild （n -- 14）, moderate （n = 10） and severe traumatic brain injury （n = 27） received early rehabilitation. Level of consciousness was evaluated using the Glasgow Coma Score Functional level was determined using the Glasgow Outcome Score, whilst mobility was evaluated using the Mobility Scale for Acute Stroke. Activities of daily living were assessed using the Barthel Index. Following Bobath neurodevelopmental therapy, the level of consciousness was significantly improved in patients with moderate and severe traumatic brain injury, but was not greatly influenced in patients with mild traumatic brain injury. Mobility and functional level were significantly improved in patients with mild, moderate and severe traumatic brain injury. Gait recovery was more obvious in patients with mild traumatic brain injury than in patients with moderate and severe traumatic brain injury. Activities of daily living showed an improvement but this was insignificant except for patients with severe traumatic brain injury. Nevertheless, complete recovery was not acquired at discharge. Multiple regression analysis showed that gait and Glasgow Coma Scale scores can be considered predictors of functional outcomes following traumatic brain injury.

Neuroprotective effect of edaravone in experimental glaucoma model in rats: a immunofluorescence and biochemical analysis

AIM: To evaluate the neuroprotective activity of systemically administered edaravone in early and late stage of experimental glaucoma in ***: In this study, 60 Wistar albino rats were used. Experimental glaucoma model was created by injecting hyaluronic acid to the anterior chamber once a week for 6wk in 46 of 60 subjects. Fourteen subjects without any medication were included as control *** administered intraperitoneally 3 mg/kg/d to the 15 of 30 subjects starting at the onset of glaucoma induction and also administered intraperitoneally3 mg/kg/d to the other 15 subjects starting at three weeks after the onset of glaucoma induction. The other16 subjects who underwent glaucoma induction was administered any therapy. Retinal ganglion cells(RGCs)have been marked with dextran tetramethylrhodamine(DTMR) retrograde at the end of the sixth week and after48 h, subjects were sacrificed by the method of cardiac perfusion. Alive RGC density was assessed in the wholemount retina. Whole-mount retinal tissues homogenized and nitric oxide(NO), malondialdehyde(MDA) and total antioxidant capacity(TAC) values were measured ***: RGCs counted with Image-Pro Plus program, in the treatment group were found to be statistically significantly protected, compared to the glaucoma group(Bonferroni,P <0.05). The neuroprotective activity of edaravone was found to be more influential byadministration at the start of the glaucoma *** significant lower NO levels were determined in the glaucoma group comparing treatment groups(Bonferroni, P <0.05). MDA levels were found to be highest in untreated glaucoma group, TAC levels were found to be lower in the glaucoma induction groups than the control group(Bonferroni, P <0.05).CONCLUSION: Systemic administration of edaravone in experimental glaucoma showed potent neuroprotective activity. The role of oxidative stress causing RGC damage in glaucoma was supported by this study results.

We compared the ability of two legend designs on a soil-landscape map to efficiently and effectively support map reading tasks with the goal of better understanding how the design choices affect user *** such knowledge is essential to design effective interfaces for digital earth *** of the two legends contained an alphabetical ordering of categories,while the other used a perceptual grouping based on the Munsell color *** tested the two legends for 4 tasks with 20 experts(in geography-related domains).We analyzed traditional usability metrics and participants’eye movements to identify the possible reasons behind their success and failure in the experimental ***,an overwhelming majority of the participants failed to arrive at the correct responses for two of the four tasks,irrespective of the legend ***,participants’prior knowledge of soils and map interpretation abilities led to interesting performance differences between the two legend *** discuss how participant background might have played a role in performance and why some tasks were particularly hard to solve despite participants’relatively high levels of experience in map *** on our observations,we caution soil cartographers to be aware of the perceptual complexity of soil-landscape maps.

Amniotic membranes have been widely used in ophthalmology and skin injury repair because of their anti-inflammatory properties. In this study, we measured therapeutic efficacy and determined if amniotic membranes could be used for facial nerve repair. The facial nerves of eight rats were dissected and end-to-end anastomosis was performed. Amniotic membranes were covered on the anastomosis sites in four rats. Electromyography results showed that, at the end of the 3rd and 8th weeks after amniotic membrane covering, the latency values of the facial nerves covered by amniotic membranes were significantly shortened and the amplitude values were significantly increased. Compared with simple facial nerve anastomosis, after histopathological examination, facial nerve anastomosed with amniotic membrane showed better continuity, milder inflammatory reactions, and more satisfactory nerve conduction. These findings suggest that amniotic membrane covering has great potential in facial nerve repair.

Drainage after total thyroidectomy or lobectomy for benign thyroidal disorders

Objective: This prospective randomized clinical trial was conducted to evaluate the necessity of drainage after total thyroidectomy or lobectomy for benign thyroidal disorders. Methods: A total of 116 patients who underwent total thyroidectomy or lobectomy for benign thyroidal disorders were randomly allocated to be drained or not. Operative and postoperative outcomes including operating time, postoperative pain assessed by visual analogue scale (VAS), total amount of intramuscular analgesic administration, hospital stay, complications, necessity for re-operation and satisfaction of patients were all assessed. Results: The mean operating time was similar between two groups (the drained and non-drained groups). The mean VAS score was found to be significantly low in the non-drained group patients in postoperative day (POD) 0 and POD 1. The mean amount of intramuscular analgesic requirement was significantly less in the non-drained group. One case of hematoma, two cases of seroma and three cases of transient hypoparathyroidism occurred in the non-drained group, whereas one case of hematoma, two cases of seroma, two cases of wound infections and two cases of transient hypoparathyroidism occurred in the drained group. No patient needed re-operation for any complication. The mean hospital stay was significantly shorter and the satisfaction of patients was superior in the non-drained group. Conclusion: These findings suggest that postoperative complications cannot be prevented by using drains after total thyroidectomy or lobectomy for benign thyroid disorders. Furthermore, the use of drains may increase postoperative pain and the analgesic requirement, and prolong the hospital stay. In the light of these findings, the routine use of drains might not be necessary after thyroid surgery for benign disorders.

AIM:To evaluate the relationship between increased intraocular pressure(IOP),is chemia-modified albumin levels in serum(IMA-s)and in humor aqueous(IMA-HA)in ***:Twenty-five albino New Zealand rabbits weighing between 2.0 and 2.8 kg were used in this pilot *** permission from Canakkale Onsekiz Mart University Animal Ethics Committee,the IOP of both eyes of each rabbit were recorded with a Tonopen(Tono-Pen XL,Reichart Inc.,Depew,NY,USA)after the application of topical proparacaine 0.5%HCl ***(4 mL)was collected from the marginal ear vein and an intracameral injection of 2.3 mg/mL sodium hyaluronate and subconjunctival dexamethasone was given in the right *** chamber aqueous fluid was obtained using a limbal approach with a 27 gauge needle from both *** left eyes were used as *** was measured on the 1st,3rdand 10thday after the initial injection,with Tonopen,IMA-s levels and IMA-HA examined ***:Beforetheinjections,IOPwas11.4±3.0mmHg in the right eye and 11.3±3.1 mm Hg in the left eye(P>0.05).There was a statistically significant difference between IMA-s levels before the IOP increase(IMA-s0)and IMA-s levels on the 1stand 3rddays after the increase in IOP(P=0.012 and P=0.01,respectively).No difference was observed between IMA-s0and serum IMA levels on the 10thday(IMA-s10)after IOP increase(P=0.989).IMA-HA in the right eye in the first day after the injection was positively correlated with IOP(r=0.748;P=0.02).No othercorrelation is found between any other parameter with IMA-HAlevels at any test time.A statistically significant positive correlation was observed between IMA-s values and IOP on the 1stand 3rddays(r=0.398,P=0.04 and r=0.382,P=0.04,respectively).There was no correlation between IMA-s levels and increased IOP on the 10thday after IOP increase(r=0.026,P=0.902).CONCLUSION:IMA may be an important indicator of acute damage caused by diseases involving ischemic damage to the eye,especially
