Background:The Elegant Pitta(Pitta elegans)complex displays a remarkable diversity of morphological and bioacoustic traits across five taxa currently recognized as *** differ in plumage characteristics(such as red versus black belly patches;supercilium color and extent;and white versus black throats),in lifestyle(resident versus migratory)and in *** investigated the morphological,bioacoustic and ecological differences across all taxa after recent studies demostrated the importance of these traits in recognizing biological species limits across ***:Morphometric analysis was carried out by measuring tarsus,wing,tail and bill lengths of 15 specimens at the Natural History Museum,UK,and plumages were inspected across 106 unique individuals from four different *** analysis was based on 134 range-wide sound *** types of calls,territorial calls and alarm calls,were analyzed using different sets of *** component analysis and the Isler Criterion were applied to the *** trials were conducted to explore the levels of response of each taxon to the call types of the other ***:The territorial call of concinna exhibits a distinct two-element motif,while elegans,maria and virginalis utter a three-element motif in which the first two elements are given in quick *** the other hand,vigorsii,produces both two-element and three-element motifs with longer breaks in between *** further corroborated by the playback trials,the three taxa elegans,virginalis and maria form a tight vocal cluster,whereas each concinna and vigorsii are *** alarm call turned out to be less diagnostic even though most taxa did roughly separate into different vocal *** analysis failed to produce strong differences,but plumage distinctions among multiple taxa are ***:We suggest splitting the Elegant Pitta into three biological species based on

Tuberculosis （TB） occurring after a closed bone fracture in the patient with no history of TB and no evidence of TB infection at the time of initial fracture is a rare entity. We report one such case of a 48-year-old female, who presented in the emergency department with an olecranon fracture which was open reduced and inter- nally fixed with tension band wiring. Patient presented in the outpatient department with serosanguineous discharge at 3 weeks after surgery. The discharge was sent for culture and sensitivity tests, and the patient was managed by anti- biotics and daily dressings. There was wound dehiscence and the underlying implant was exposed, which was removed at 12 weeks after surgery. Repeat debridements and dressings continued for 6 months, but the discharge from the wound site continued. X-rays of the elbow performed at 6 months raised the suspicion of TB, which was confirmed by Ziel-Neelsen staining and histopathological examination of the debrided tissue. Following the confirmation, patient was put on antitubercular drugs. The patient responded to anti- tubercular drug therapy （ATT）, the purulent discharge from the wound ceased, and eventually the wound healed after 2 months of starting ATT.

A series of tests was conducted to unlock the potential application of MgO/water-EG(ethylene glycol)nanofluids(NF)in a double-pipe heat exchanger(HEX).The overall heat transfer coefficient(HTC),the inlet temperature of the working fluid,the fluid pressure drop(FPD),friction factor(FF)and the hydraulic performance index of the NF within the HEX were experimentally *** of nanoparticles(NPs)within the Hex was also studied and modelled using asymptotic particulate fouling *** showed that MgO NPs can enhance the HTC by 39%at Re=10500 and wt.%=0.3 in the turbulent ***,the presence of MgO NPs augmented the FF and the FPD *** former was enhanced 33.8%,while the latter was augmented by 37%both at wt.%=0.3 and at Reynolds number=*** also revealed that the formation of porous particulate fouling layer on the internal wall of the inner tube creates a fouling thermal resistance which changes asymptotically with ***,MgO/water-ethylene glycol shows a great potential to be used as a coolant within a HEX.

Age-related macular degeneration(AMD)is a leading cause of central vision loss *** progression of dry AMD from early to intermediate stages is primarily characterized by increasing drusen formation and adverse impact on outer retinal *** stage AMD consists of either geographic atrophy(GA),the non-exudative(dry)AMD subtype,or choroidal neovascularization,the exudative(wet)AMD *** is characterized by outer retinal and choroidal atrophy,specifically the photoreceptor layer,RPE,and *** remains to be discovered regarding the pathogenesis of AMD progression and subsequent development of *** the functionality of all three layers is closely linked,the temporal sequence of events that end up in atrophy is important in the understanding of the pathogenic pathway of the *** advent of OCTA,and particularly of swept-source technology,has allowed for depth-resolved imaging of retinal vasculature and the *** the use of OCTA,recent studies demonstrate that choriocapillaris flow alterations are closely associated with the development and progression of *** changes may even possibly offer predictive value in determining progression of *** article reviews studies demonstrating choriocapillaris changes in dry AMD and summarizes the existing literature on the potential role of the choriocapillaris as a key factor in the pathogenesis of AMD.

Eolian versus fluvial supply to the northern Arabian Sea during the Holocene based on Nd isotope and geochemical records

The north-eastern Arabian Sea(NE-AS)comes under a strong influence of land–ocean–climate interactions and regulates biogeochemical processes through the supply of huge amounts of dissolved and particulate materials and nutrients via eolian and fluvial *** processes underwent dramatic changes in the coastal regions due to sea-level rise and climate change during the Holocene;however,their relative roles remain *** NE-AS receives large amounts of dissolved and particulate fluxes,and therefore,reconstruction of the past surface water Nd isotope composition(eNd)and tracing the provenance of sediment using detrital eNd and geochemical records would enable us to assess the role of various processes controlling these fluxes to the northern Arabian *** this study,we have generated authigenic and detrital eNd records and geochemical records in a sediment core from the coastal region of the NE-AS,offshore *** found that the authigenic eNd profile closely followed the Holocene sea-level records;early Holocene less radiogenic values(-8)were sharply shifted to more radiogenic values(-5.5)during the mid-Holocene(6–7 ka)and thereafter remained stable,close to the modern surface water eNd *** detrital eNd record broadly followed the authigenic eNd record,however,they differ in *** geochemical records based on major and trace elemental abundances show a similar trend to the authigenic eNd record and concomitant changes with the Holocene *** investigation reveals that lower sea-level stand combined with a stronger monsoon during the early Holocene resulted in enhanced fluvial weathering fluxes from the west-flowing rivers and contributed to less radiogenic *** situation changed dramatically during the mid-Holocene due to the weakening of the south-west monsoon and rapid sea level rise,which caused enhanced influence of open ocean water characterised by more radiogenic eNd(-6)derived from the dissolution of dust from Arabia a

The displacement of spleen from its normal location to other places is known as wandering spleen(WS)and is a rare *** repeated torsion of WS is due to the presence of long pedicle and absence/laxity of anchoring ligaments.A WS is an extremely rare cause of left-sided portal hypertension(PHT)and severe gastric variceal ***-sided PHT usually occurs as a result of splenic vein occlusion caused by splenic torsion,extrinsic compression of the splenic pedicle by enlarged spleen,and splenic vein *** is a paucity of data on WSrelated PHT,and these data are mostly in the form of case *** this review,we have analyzed the data of 20 reported cases of WS-related *** mechanisms of pathogenesis,clinico-demographic profile,and clinical implications are described in this *** majority of patients were diagnosed in the second to third decade of life(mean age:26 years),with a strong female preponderance(M:F=1:9).Eleven of the 20 WS patients with left-sided PHT presented with abdominal pain and *** 6 of the 11 patients,varices were detected incidentally on preoperative imaging studies or discovered ***,pre-operative search for varices is required in patients with splenic torsion.

Spectrum of fungal keratitis: clinicopathologic study of 44 cases

AIM: To determine the causative agents of fungal keratitis and study the predisposing factors over a period of ten years in a single tertiary care hospital. ·METHODS: A retrospective analysis of fungal corneal ulcers was done from 2003-2012. Patients’ clinical data were noted from the file records. Correlation of histopathological diagnosis was done with the report on fungal culture. · RESULTS: Mycotic keratitis was established in 44 cases by a positive fungal culture. Direct microscopic examination of potassium hydroxide(KOH) mounts revealed fungal elements in 39 cases while 40 cases showed fungus on Gram stained smears. Males(54.55%) were more commonly affected than the females(45.45%). The age ranged from 18 to 82 years. Most common age group to be involved was 41-60 years. Predisposing risk factors were seen in 34(77.27%) cases. Most common findings on clinical examination were anterior chamber reaction and conjunctival injection seen in all the cases. Other common findings were stromal infiltration and hypopyon seen in 20(45.45%) and 18(40.91%) cases respectively. On histopathological examination the fungus was typed,as aspergillus in 34 cases while no definite typing was possible in 10 cases. The predominant isolate was aspergillus flavus(59.09%) followed by fusarium(15.91%). Mixed fungal and bacterial infection was seen in 3(6.82%) cases. ·CONCLUSION: Although culture is the gold standard for definitive diagnosis of fungal keratitis,direct microscopic examination of corneal scrapings or histomorphological evaluation of biopsies allow a rapidpreliminary diagnosis. Early administration of antifungal treatment helps in preventing dreadful complications.
