Improving Linear Type Traits to Improve Production Sustainability and Longevity in Purebred Sahiwal Cattle

In order to determine various traits which need to be improved for improving the productive life span and longevity, purebred Sahiwal cows available at bull mother experimental farm and cattle breeding farm located at Veterinary College, Durg, Chhattisgarh, India were used. For present investigation, 17 linear type traits were measured, scaled and scored as per the guidelines of International Committee for Animal Recording （2001）. The average score point （ASP） under 1-9 point scale score system along with respective observed group for different linear type traits were stature （6.88; taller）, chest width （5.30; intermediate）, body depth （4.11; intermediate）, rump angle （4.27; intermediate）, rump width （5.09; intermediate）, rear leg set-side view （4.55; intermediate）, rear leg set-rear view （5.95; intermediate）, foot angle （5.66; intermediate）, udder depth （5.71; intermediate）, rear udder height （4.90; intermediate）, udder balance （5.27; intermediate）, udder cleft （3.75; intermediate）, fore udder attachment （5.55; intermediate）, teat length （3.54; intermediate）, fore teat placement （5.33; intermediate）, rear teat placement （6.37; intermediate） and teat thickness （2.76; narrow）. For most of the traits, ASP which lies near midpoint （i.e. near five） is known to be ideal for dairy type cattle. Moreover, some traits also showed the presence of undesirable ASP. Hence, the traits such as body depth, rump angle, foot angle, udder depth, rear udder height, udder cleft, fore udder attachment, teat length, and teat thickness needs to be improved for improving the production sustainability and herd life of Sahiwal cattle. Thus, present investigation gives explicit clue to incorporate these conformation traits in selection program of this valuable germplasm commonly found in Southern part of Asia （India, Pakistan, Srilanka, etc.）.

Essential oil of Amomum subulatum is the complex mixture of various alkyl, alkanes, sulfonates, amines, alcohols, sulfoxides, trans RCH≡CHR and aromatic bending compounds. The FT-IR analysis of aromatic bending occurs on 845 cm-1 with para C-H bend. A strong absorption band between 900 cm-1 - 675 cm-1 indicated the presence of aromatic C=C. The alcoholic stretching detected on 1080 cm-1 and 1169 cm-1 with C-O stretching molecular motion in large cardamom. In our investigation, the frequency of 2943 cm-1 and 2934 cm-1 the C-H stretching occurred in alkyl group. The wave numbers of bands 2966 (C=CH2), 1358 (S=O Stretch), 1215 (C-N Stretch), 1053 (S=O Stretch) and 984 (C-H Bending) the functional group specify vinyl, sulfonates, amines, sulfoxides and trans RCH-CHR, respectively.

Land-use,biomass and carbon estimation in dry tropical forest of Chhattisgarh region in India using satellite remote sensing and GIS

A study was conducted to characterize the land use,biomass and carbon status of dry tropical forest in Raipur district of Chhattisgarh,India using satellite remote sensing data and GIS techniques in the year of *** main forest types observed in the area are Teak forest,mixed forest,degraded forest and Sal mixed *** aspect and slope of the sites influenced the forest vegetation types,biomass and carbon storage in the different *** standing volume,above ground biomass and carbon storage varied from 35.59 to 64.31 m^3·ha^-1,45.94 to 78.31 Mg·ha^-1,and 22.97 to 33.27 Mg·ha^-1,respectively among different forest *** highest volumes,above ground biomass and carbon storage per hectare were found in the mixed forest and lowest in the degraded *** total standing carbon present in the entire study area was 78170.72 Mg in mixed forest,81656.91 Mg in Teak forest,7833.23 Mg in degraded forest and 7470.45 Mg in Sal mixed forest,*** study shows that dry tropical forests of the studied area in Chhattisgarh are in growing stage and have strong potential for carbon sequestration.

Cancer is an abnormal state of cells where they undergo uncontrolled proliferation and produce aggressive malignancies that causes millions of deaths every *** the new understanding of the molecular mechanism(s)of disease progression,our knowledge about the disease is snowballing,leading to the evolution of many new therapeutic regimes and their successive *** the past few decades,various combinations of therapies have been pro-posed and are presently employed in the treatment of diverse *** drug therapy,immunotherapy,and personalized medicines are now largely being employed,which were not common a few years *** field of cancer discoveries and therapeutics are evolving fast as cancer type-specific biomarkers are progressively being identified and several types of cancers are nowadays undergoing systematic therapies,extending patients’disease-free survival *** growing evidence shows that a systematic and targeted approach could be the future of cancer medicine,chemotherapy remains a largely opted therapeutic option despite its known side effects on the patient’s physical and psychological ***-apeutic agents/pharmaceuticals served a great purpose over the past few decades and have remained the frontline choice for advanced-stage malignancies where surgery and/or radiation therapy cannot be prescribed due to specific *** present report succinctly reviews the existing and contemporary advancements in chemotherapy and assesses the status of the enrolled drugs/pharmaceuticals;it also comprehensively discusses the emerging role of specific/targeted therapeutic strategies that are presently being employed to achieve better clinical success/survival rate in cancer patients.

【目的】研究福氏志贺菌mdoC基因对细菌在不同洗菜水中生长及生物膜形成的影响。【方法】以福氏志贺菌野生型和敲除mdoC基因的opgC突变体为出发菌株,采用生长曲线法和结晶紫染色法,在低渗透压及正常渗透压的菠菜、芹菜、生菜及白菜洗菜水中,研究福氏志贺菌野生型和opgC突变体生长及生物膜的产生能力。【结果】在不同洗菜水中,福氏志贺菌opgC突变体生长速率明显较野生型慢,加盐提高渗透压之后,野生型和opgC突变体稳定生长期均提前。野生型和opgC突变体的生物膜产量在菠菜水、生菜水和白菜水中有显著区别;提高渗透压之后,福氏志贺菌野生型在菠菜水中的生物膜产量显著提高,而在生菜水和白菜水中生物膜产量显著下降,opgC突变体在菠菜水、生菜水和白菜水中生物膜产量均显著提高。【结论】低渗条件下,福氏志贺菌mdoC基因的缺失显著地延缓了细菌生长。提高渗透压后,在菠菜、生菜和白菜洗菜水中,mdoC基因的缺失促进了生物膜的形成。

We report the results of dc resistivity, ac susceptibility, and thermopower study of partial substitution at Y (A site by Ca) and at Cu (B site by Ni) polycrystalline superconductors. The iodometric analysis reveals that the oxygen deficiency,δ,for YBa2Cu3O7-δ(S-I),Y0.9Ca0.1 Ba2Cu3O7-δ(S-II),Y0.8Ca0.2Ba2Cu3O7-δ(S-III) and Y0.9Ca0.1 Ba2(Cu0.99Ni0.01)3O7-δ(S-IV) samples are 0.16, 0.30, 0.39 and 0.29 respectively. The x-ray powder diffraction pattern indicates that all samples are in orthorhombic phase. The dc resistivity, ac susceptiblity and the thermopower measurements shows that the divalent Calcium doping at the trivalent Y site and transition metal Ni doping at Cu site causes a suppression of the superconducting transition temperature (Tc) from 89 to 81 k. The ac susceptibility confirms the ferromagnetic to antiferromagnetic phases at a defined Tc. The room temperature S value increases for Ca substituted YBa2Cu3O7-δwhile to that it decreases for Y0.9Ca0.1Ba2(Cu0.99Ni0.01)3O6.71. The above feature is an indicative of enhanced number of mobile holes for the Ca doped YBa2Cu3O7-δ, while to that the charge carrier density is reduced in simultaneous A (Ca) and B (Ni) site doped sample.

Polycrystalline sample of Ba5HoTi3V7O30 was prepared using solid-state reaction technique. X-ray structural analysis indicated a single-phase formation with orthorhombic structure. Microstructural study by SEM showed non-uniform distribution of grains over the surface of the sample. Impedance and modulus spectroscopy studies were carried out, as functions of frequency (42 Hz - 5 MHz) and temperature (RT-773k). The Nyquist plots clearly showed the presence of both bulk and grain boundary effect in the compound. Electrical phenomena in the material can appropriately be modeled in terms of an equivalent circuit with R, C and CPE in parallel. The fitting procedure used here allows us to determine the value of R and C with good precision. Here R2 and R3 correspond to the resistance contributed from the grain boundary and bulk, respectively. C1 and C2 correspond to the capacitance contributed from the grain boundary and bulk, respectively. The real part of electrical modulus shows that the material is highly capacitive. The asymmetric peak of the imaginary part of electric modulus M″, predicts a non Debye type relaxation. The activation energy of the compound (calculated both from impedance and modulus spectrum) is same, and hence the relaxation process may be attributed to the same type of charge carriers.

Are Truckers Being over Stigmatized as HIV Carriers in India? Evidences from Behavioral and Biological Cross-Sectional Surveys among Clients of Female Sex Workers

This paper examines whether truckers have been over-stigmatized as HIV carriers in the country. Data were taken from cross-sectional surveys of clients of female sex workers conducted in 2006-2007 in 12 districts of the country. A total 4822 clients of female sex workers were covered in the survey. Low-income skilled/semi-skilled men, including non-agricultural/casual labor, and petty businessmen/small shop owners, have the largest share in the clients’ population. There was no significant difference between truckers and other sub-group of clients’ population in terms of consistent condom use with female sex workers and prevalence of HIV or STI. These evidences suggest that the contribution of truckers in HIV epidemic in India might to similar to other sub-groups of clients’ population. Thus, truckers might have been over-stigmatized as HIV carriers in the country. However, there is no doubt that truckers constitute an extremely important target group for the HIV prevention programs and these efforts must be continued to prevent new HIV infections in the country.
