An attempt was made to explore the scope of the bio-antioxidants in the management of symptoms of epidemic dropsy caused by argemone alkaloids, sanguinarine and dihydrosanguinarine. The study was performed on 24 randomly selected epidemic dropsy cases who consumed argemone contaminated mustard oil. On examination the cases revealed characteristic pitting edema over limbs (95.8%) accompanied by tenderness (79.2%) and diffuse erythema (95.8%). Tachycardia was present in 1/3 of the examined cases while evelated jugular venous pressure was seen in over 40% of the cases. In two of the cases, reddish-purplish blotches over lower limbs, not raised and which blanched on pressure, was an unusual feature. Chest X-ray revealed pulmonary congestion in 5 cases. ECG performed in 3 cases with severe breathlessness, showed non-specific ST-T changes most marked in L2,L3, avF and V2-V6 which reversed on recovery. Treatment with a combination of antioxidants, riboflavin and tocopherol showed improvement in pain in lower limbs (75%), edema (83.3%) and erythema (66.6%).

In the present study,organically modified Montmorillonite clay with polar moiety,the Cloisite 30B,is used for preparation of Hydroxyl terminated polybutadiene(HTPB)-clay nanocomposites(HCN)by dispersion of nanoclay in polymer matrix under high shear *** nanocomposites thus prepared are evaluated in composite propellants as inhibitor material for their functional *** inhibition formulations containing 5 wt%-15 wt%of nanoclay,with or without the conventional filler Sb2O3,were *** these formulations were evaluated for their physical,mechanical,thermal,and ablative *** rate and density of the compositions containing Cloisite 30B is around 23%and 5%lower respectively in comparison of the base *** capability of these compositions is twofold higher than that of base *** compositions have also been evaluated for their smoke generation tendency by measuring infra red(IR)attenuation in the wavelength range 1.3 mm e5.6 mm and 8 mme13 mm and thereby compared with the base *** corresponding results confirmed that the compositions containing Cloisite 30B as filler have much lower IR attenuation than compositions with conventional filler,*** of 5%Sb2O3 by nanoclay showed 8%reduction in IR attenuation rate which further reduced to 16%on replacement of 15%of *** bonding of HCN based inhibitors is also comparable or even better than conventional ***,the nanoclay composites with Cloisite 30B as filler exhibit all desirable properties of an inhibitor.

Alzheimer’s disease is a non-reversible,non-curable,and progressive neurological disorder that induces the shrinkage and death of a specific neuronal population associated with memory formation and *** is a frequently occurring mental illness that occurs in about 60%–80%of cases of *** is usually observed between people in the age group of 60 years and *** upon the severity of symptoms the patients can be categorized in Cognitive Normal(CN),Mild Cognitive Impairment(MCI)and Alzheimer’s Disease(AD).Alzheimer’s disease is the last phase of the disease where the brain is severely damaged,and the patients are not able to live on their *** is an approach to extracting a huge number of features from medical images with the help of data characterization ***,105 number of radiomic features are extracted and used to predict the alzhimer’*** paper uses Support Vector Machine,k-Nearest Neighbour,Gaussian Naïve Bayes,eXtreme Gradient Boosting(XGBoost)and Random Forest to predict Alzheimer’s *** proposed random forest-based approach with the Radiomic features achieved an accuracy of 85%.This proposed approach also achieved 88%accuracy,88%recall,88%precision and 87%F1-score for AD ***,it achieved 72%accuracy,73%recall,72%precisionand 71%F1-score for AD *** and it achieved 69%accuracy,69%recall,68%precision and 69%F1-score for MCI *** comparative analysis shows that the proposed approach performs better than others approaches.

With increase in shale gas exploration, inorganic and organic geochemical investigations of shale have become extremely important. Here, we explore the six argillaceous (shale) intervals (Arangi, koldaha, Rampur, Bijaygarh, Rewa and Sirbu shale) from Son valley sector, Vindhyan Basin with an aim to understand provenance conditions, palaeoclimate, tectonic setting and hydrocarbon generation potential. Whole rock geochemistry indicates Vindhyan sediments derived from felsic source(s) except for Sirbu shale that indicates additional influx of mafic rocks with differentiated felsic source. A comparative study of Vindhyan shale rare earth elements (REEs) points to Mahakoshals and Chhotanagpur gneissic complex (CGC) as probable sediment provenance for Vindhyan sediments. CIA analysis, after necessary corrections for k-metasomatism, suggests evolution in weathering and palaeoclimate indicating a transformation from moderate weathering conditions with warm and humid climate during lower Vindhyan deposition to intense weathering conditions with hot and humid climate during upper Vindhyan deposition. Trace (La/Y vs. Sc/Cr) and REE analysis indicates passive margin setting for Vindhyan sediments whereas a wide range spanning passive to active continental margin setting is also inferred using (Th-Sc-Zr/10) and (Th–La-Sc) ternary diagrams. However, these tectonic discriminant diagrams lack in explaining rift- or sag-related origin of any intracratonic basin such as the Vindhyan Basin. The total organic carbon (TOC) content in Vindhyan shales ranges from 0.29% to 8.44%. The thermally liberated hydrocarbon (S1) values range from 0.01 to 0.18 mg HC/g rock (milligram hydrocarbon per gram of rock sample), whereas hydrocarbon from cracking of the kerogen (S2) shows values ranging from 0.04 to 0.47 mg HC/g rock. Acorus calamus is a highly valued medicinal plant with global distribution used in several drugs of health care systems. We evaluated the genetic diversity and population structure of 50 populations of A. calamus from different geographical regions in India through RAPD and chloroplast microsatellite markers. From the total screened 82 RAPD primers and 18 cpSSR primers, 10 RAPD and nine cpSSRs were found polymorphic. The selected 10 RAPD primers produced a total of 96 reproducible bands, out of which 65 were polymorphic （67.70%）. Whereas, the selected nine cpSSR markers produced 26 alleles and all of them were polymorphic. The mean genetic diversity （H T ） among populations using RAPD （H T = 0.263） and cpSSR （H T = 0.530） markers was higher in comparison to the mean genetic diversity within populations. Mean coefficient of gene differentiation （G ST ） between the populations was also high for both RAPD （G ST = 0.830） and cpSSR markers （G ST = 0.735）, whereas the estimated gene flow was very low for RAPD （Nm = 0.102） and for cpSSR （Nm = 0.179）. AMOVA analysis revealed that more genetic variation resided among the populations than within populations. Significant differences （p 0.001） were observed between the populations and individuals within the populations. Cluster analysis of RAPD and cpSSR data using UPGMA algorithm based on Nei’s genetic similarity matrix placed the 50 populations into two main clusters. The implication of the results of this study in devising strategy for conservation of A. calamus is discussed.

Genealogy and phylogeography of Cyprinid fish Labeo rohita （Hamilton, 1822） inferred from ATPase 6 and 8 mitochondrial DNA gene analysis

ATPase 6/8 gene （842 bp） of mitochondrial DNA was sequenced in Labeo rohita samples （n = 253） collected from nine rivers belonging to four river basins; Indus, Ganges, Brahmaputra and Mahanadi. Analysis revealed 44 haplotypes with high haplotype diversity （Hd） 0.694 and low nucleotide diversity （π） 0.001. The within population variation was larger （83.44%） than among population differences （16.56%）. The mean Fsv value （0.166; P 〈 0.05） for overall populations revealed moderate level of genetic structuring in the wild L. rohita populations. The haplotype network presented a single clade for wild L. rohita population, from different rivers. Negative values for Fu＇s index （Fs）, mismatch distribution analysis indicated period of expansion in L. rohita population. The time after recent expansion was estimated for each population, between 0.042 to 0.167 mya. The pattern of Isolation by Distance （IBD） was not significant （r = -0.113, P 〈 0.287）, when all the sampling locations were compared （Mantel test）, however, when an outlier （Indus, Brahmaputra and Mahanadi） was removed from the whole population set, a clear positive correlation between pairwise Fsv and geographic distance （km） was seen. The analysis of data demonstrated that ATPase6/8 gene polymorphism is a potential marker to understand genetic population structure of wild L. rohita existing in different rivers. The study identified population substructure in wild L. rohita with common ancestral origin [Current Zoology 60 （4）： 460--471, 2014].

Application of UPLC-MS/MS for separation and quantification of 3α-Hydroxy Tibolone and comparative bioavailability of two Tibolone formulations in healthy volunteers

A novel, fast, sensitive and robust method based on ultra-performance liquid chromatography coupled to atmospheric pressure electrospray ionization tandem mass spectrometry （UPLC-ESI-MS/MS） has been developed to separate two Tibolone stereoisomers i.e., 3α-Hydroxy Tibolone and 3β-Hydroxy Tibolone and to quantify 3α-Hydroxy Tibolone using p-toulenesulfonyl isocyanate （PTSI） as a derivatizing reagent in human plasma. 3α-Hydroxy Tibolone-13CD3 was used as an internal standard （IS）. The analyte and IS were extracted from human plasma by liquid-liquid extraction using ethyl acetate. Extracted samples were analyzed by UPLC-ESI-MS/MS. Chromatography was performed using binary gradient on UPLC analytical column. A linear calibration curve over the range of 0.100-35.000 ng/ mL was obtained and lower limit of quantification （LLOQ） was 0.100 ng/mL demonstrating acceptable accuracy and precision. This method was successfully applied to a pharmacokinetic study in order to compare a test Tibolone 2.5 mg formulation vs. a reference 2.5 mg Tibolone tablet formulation in 50 post-menopausal/surgical menopause female human volunteers under fasting conditions. It is concluded that test formulation of Tibolone is bioequivalent to reference formulation of Tibolone.

Traditional Medicine (TM) and their secondary metabolites are being increasingly recognized as useful complementary treatments toward the cancer. A large number of clinical studies have reported and proven concern of cancer patients. Here we have also reported recent studies on the biochemical and cellular mechanisms of Traditional Medicine (TM). Nowadays, Chemotherapy and surgery are standard methods for treatment of cancer, but still it’s not been fully successful. Some progress has been made in cancer diagnosis and treatment, but high incidence rate of cancer and low survival rate of patient are still being reported worldwide. Since ancient times, a number of traditional medicines known as Ayurveda, Siddha, Unani, Iranian, Chinese, korean, acupuncture, Muti, Ifa, and African medicine are widely used for therapeutic purposes and are becoming popular as Traditional Medicine (TM). It has been reported that plants synthesize plethora of “secondary metabolites” or “phytochemicals”, proven to possess anti-mutagenic and anti-cancer properties in many research studies. There are many possibilities for further organized research for screening of medicinal plants for their potential and efficacy against chronic diseases such as a cancer and other inflammatory diseases. Therefore, researcher’s interest should be in identification and standardization of new anti-cancer drug with low side effects and greater efficacy, that is easily acceptable in medical community and which may overcome the challenges in present and future cancer therapy. This review explores therapeutic value of certain bio-active principals of plant which could serve as potential pharmacologically active drug for treatment of cancer in future.

Background Coronary heart disease （CHD） risk increases with age; yet lipid-lowering therapies are significantly under-utilized in patients 〉 65 years. The objective was to evaluate the safety and efficacy of lipid-lowering therapies in older patients treated with atorvastatin 10 nag ＋ ezetimibe 10 mg （EZ/Atorva） vs. increasing the atorvastatin dose to 40 mg, Methods Patients 〉 65 years with atherosclerotic vascular disease （LDL-C ≥1.81 mmol/L） or at high risk for coronary heart disease （LDL-C 〉 2.59 mmol/L） were randomized to EZ/Atorva for 12 wk vs. uptitration to atorvastatin 20 nag for 6 wk followed by atorvastatin 40 nag for 6 wk. The percent change in LDL-C and other lipid parameters and percent patients achieving prespecified LDL-C levels were assessed after 12 wk. Results EZ/Atorva produced greater reductions in most lipid parameters vs. uptitration of atorvastatin in patients 〉 75 years （n = 228）, generally consistent with patients 65-74 years （n = 812）. More patients achieved LDL-C targets with combination therapy vs. monotherapy in both age groups at 6 wk and in patients 〉 75 years at 12 wk. At 12 wk, more patients 〉 75 years achieved LDL-C targets with monotherapy vs. combination therapy. EZ/Atorva produced more favorable improvements in most lipids vs. doubling or quadrupling the atorvastatin dose in patients 〉 75 years, generally consistent with the findings in patients 65-74 years. Conclusions Our results extended previous findings demonstrating that ezetimibe added to a statin provided a generally well-tolerated therapeutic option for improving the lipid profile in patients 65 to 74 years and 〉 75 years of age.
