Genotype Environment Interaction (G ×E) of Heat Tolerant Wheat Genotypes over Locations and Years

Twenty heat tolerant wheat genotypes were evaluated in three heat stress environments of Bangladesh such as Wheat Research Center (WRC), Nashipur, Dinajpur, Regional Wheat Research Center, BARI, Gazipur, Regional Wheat Research Center, RARS, Jashore in 2015-2016. The experiments were conducted in RCBD with three replications in 2015-2016. The stability and response to change of location and sowing time of the genotypes were assessed through AMMI model and regression coefficient analysis on seven characters, viz. days to heading, days to maturity, plant height (cm), spik.s m-2, grains spik.-1, 1000-grain weight (g) and yield (k.·ha-1). Among the linear interactions, sowing time alone exerted the maximum sum of square (335,388,000.00**) and among the non-linear interactions, location × year paid the highest effect (7,676,490.00**), which was followed by year × location × sowing time interaction (3,956,500.00**). The highest grain yield (4475.3 k.·ha-1) was obtained from the genotype G13, followed by the genotypes G17 (4460.8 k.·ha-1) and G19 (4404.7 k.·ha-1). The genotype G8 had the smallest interaction effect, while the genotype G14 followed by G10 responded vigorously to amelioration. The genotypes G13, G18 and G19 showed averagely high yield and showed stability over the environmental modifications. The other two genotypes G20 and G12 exhibited great reduction of yield potential under unfavorable environment. The environment 121 proceeded by J121 and G131 appeared as favorable environments. The genotypes G13 and G19 produced high yield (k.·ha-1) in the favorable environments. The genotypes G16 and G18 high IPCa1 scores, indicated sensitive to mega-environmental changes. The best genotype with respect to environment was genotype G13. Genotypes G17 and G19 were best for site E1;genotypes G14, G16 and G18 were best for site E2.

Ecological variables influencing the diversity and distribution of macrolichens colonizing Quercus leucotrichophora in Uttarak.and forest

Ecological variables play a significant role in determining the diversity and distribution of any living organism on earth. Lichens are not exceptional and are quite sensitive in comparison to other organisms; hence the present study focuses on the impact of ecological variables on the diversity and distribution of epiphytic macrolichens colonizing Quercus leucotrichophora across eight different sites(50 m × 50 m) in Thal k. Dhar forest, k.maun Himalaya, Uttarak.and, India. For sampling of macrolichens, 200 trees(25 trees from each site) of *** were selected from each site and five quadrats of 5 cm × 10 cm(1000 quadrats in totality) were drawn at the tree trunk. From all the sampled trees, a total of 54 species of epiphytic macrolichens belonging to 18 genera and five families were recorded. Various ecological variables, namely altitude, aspect, slope, diameter at breast height(DBH), and lopping percent(partial cutting of the twigs as disturbance), were also analyzed to investigate their influence on macrolichen species composition and distribution pattern in the study area. For the determination of relationships between these variables, statistical analysis, namely Pearson's Correlation Coefficient, Polynomial regression analysis and Principal Component Analysis(PCA)were performed. Investigation of two coronal mass ejections from circular ribbon source region:Origin,Sun-Earth propagation and Geoeffectiveness

Comprehensive Record of Megafossils from the Rajmahal Basin, Jhark.and, India

The study provides the first comprehensive record of the plant megafossils mainly Glossopteris flora from the Barak.r Formation, Rajmahal Open Cast Mine, Rajmahal Basin, Jhark.and. The assemblage is composed of pteridophytes and gymnosperms. The pteridophytes comprise Equisetalean axes (order Equisetales), whereas, gymnosperms include nine species of Glossopteris including Glossopteris communis, G. damudica, G. gigas, G. indica, G. lanceolatus, G. longicaulis, G. oldhamii, G. taenioides, G. tenuifolia along with Vertebraria indica and Noeggerathiopsis hislopi. The present investigation adds to the k.owledge of the Glossopteris flora of India, especially that of the Rajmahal Basin from where the plant fossil records are sporadic. The area is a treasure for palaeobotanical studies as evinced by different fossil localities. However, the localities are degraded by mining activities performed by private companies and hence systematic investigation for such vegetation is vital to create a palaeobotanical database before their complete degradation. The floral assemblage compares with earlier k.own assemblages, recorded from the Barak.r Formation of other Lower Gondwana basins of peninsular India. .

A Review on the Role of Low Glycemic Index Foods for Glycemic Control in Chronic Liver Disease

Liver is an essential organ that maintains fasting and postprandial blood glucose response via various metabolic pathways. The liver function gradually deteriorates in chronic liver disease (CLD) due to inflammation and destruction of liver parenchyma. The development of glucose intolerance and hepatogenous diabetes (HD) in patients with CLD is an inevitable event. Diabetes and CLD can coexist, and function synergistically to cause unfavorable clinical consequences, including poor treatment outcomes and frequent hospitalization. The complications associated with liver disease (malnutrition, hypoglycemia, acute k.dney injury, lactic acidosis, etc.) and lack.of guidelines limit pharmacological management of HD. Dietary recommendations by The European Society for Clinical Nutrition and Metabolism (ESPEN) guidelines (2019), suggested weight reducing hypocaloric diet along with adequate branched-chain amino acid (BCAA) and micronutrient consumption to improve steatosis and insulin sensitivity in patients with CLD. Dietary glycemic index controls prognosis of obesity, non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) and diabetes. The importance of low GI diet in reducing fasting blood glucose, hepatic glucose influx and fat accumulation, thereby improving weight loss and NAFLD score, is being published in patients with diabetes or liver disease. Several countries have already incorporated GI into their national health policies, for identification of the nutrient value, resulting in establishment of worldwide GI and glycemic load tables for specific food items. However, the apparent complexity of GI and lack.of low GI meal choices need to be resolved in order to enhance patient’s quality of life, health and well-being. Low GI nutritional supplements, comprising of balanced proportion of carbohydrate, protein, BCAAs, fibers and micronutrients, may reduce the complexity related to dietary management of HD. Neotectonic Evidences of Rejuvenation in k.urik.hango Fault Zone, Northwestern Himalaya

Neotectonic investigations using morphotectonic parameters such as basin asymmetry, drainage anomalies, digital data interpretation and geomorphic field evidences were carried out in Satluj river valley downstream of k.ab in the k.urik.Chango Fault (k.F) zone. The study reveals the presence of a northsouth trending fault which is similar to the k.F. Unpaired, tilted terraces, V shaped valleys, deep gorges and lak.s are the manifestations of fault movement in the area. Presence of deformation structures preserved in the palaeolak. profile at Morang indicates that the area has also been seismically active in the past. In this paper we present a conceptual model of the formation of lak.s in k.F zone. Morphometric analysis was carried out with the help of Digital Elevation Models (DEMs) and field investigations.

Wheat Stripe Rust Virulence and Varietal Resistance in the Foot Hill Himalayas of Nepal

Stripe rust, caused by Puccinia striiformis f. sp. tritici （Pst） is an important disease of wheat （Triticum aestivum） in Nepal, which is a part of the Himalayas stretching over the North of Nepal, India, Pak.stan, Bhutan and beyond. Wheat production plays a crucial role in food security of the marginal hill farmers of Nepal. Frequent epidemics of the rust have caused huge loss in farmer＇s field. Periodic monitoring during 1980-2008 showed that changes in virulence occurred during this period. The objective of this study was to evaluate Pst resistance and its effective genes in wheat genotypes. For this, trap nurseries, wheat stripe rust differentials, commercial cultivars and advanced breeding lines were tested under artificial epiphytotic and natural hot spots conditions during 2005 to 2010. Four genes （Yr5, Yr10, Yr15 and YrSp） consistently showed resistance to the prevailing races. The gene Yr9 and Yr27 in combinations with Yrl8 were found effective. Other lines with combination of minor genes were also found effective. The genotypes Amadina, k.k.na, Tuk.ru, k.k.tsi and Buck.Buck.widely used in breeding program were resistant. The cultivation of varieties Wk.204, Gautam, Gaura and Dhaulagiri have ensured genetic diversity for the rust resistance and slowed down frequent occurrence of epidemics. The findings of these studies could help in developing effective varietal resistance program in the sub-continent.

Indian coast harbors richly diverse and critical coastal habitats lik. coral reefs and mangroves. Mangroves form one of the most important ecosystems of coastal and marine areas. It safeguards the ecology of the coastal areas and provides livelihood opportunities to the fishermen and pastoral families living in these areas. In real sense, mangrove is the k.lpvrik.h (divine tree which fulfills all the desires) for the coastal communities. The restoration and plantation of mangroves have received a lot of attentions worldwide. To assess the impact of mangrove plantation activities and to monitor the mangrove regeneration and restoration in various villages, a joint study under the Integrated Coastal Zone Management Project (ICZMP) was tak.n up by Gujarat Ecology Commission (GEC) and Bhask.racharya Institute for Space Applications and Geo-Informatics (BISAG) in the Gulf of k.chchh, Gujarat State.?The major objective of this study was to monitor the increase in mangrove cover in coastal areas of Gulf of k.chchh using the Indian Remote Sensing Satellite data of 2005, 2011 and 2014. The mangrove regeneration was monitored using multi-temporal Indian Remote Sensing Satellite (IRS) LISS-III and LISS-IV digital data covering Gulf of k.chchh region. The multi-temporal IRS LISS-III data covering Gulf of k.chchh of October-2005, November-2011 and LISS-IV data of April-2014 was analyzed. The mangrove density and mangrove area in different taluk.s was estimated based on the analysis of IRS LISS-III digital data. The mangroves have been delineated based on the pink.colour observed on satellite images and the area was estimated in the Geographic Information System (GIS) environment. The taluk. or block.level mangrove areas were estimated and changes in the areas were monitored during the period of six years from 2005 to 2011.
