mexican beech[Fagus grandifolia ***(martinez)***]is a subspecies endemic to the Sierra madre Oriental mountains and considered endangered due to the low density of its populations and high degree of habitat fragmentation and environmental *** its morphological and genetic variation is associated with its ability to adapt to changes in environmental conditions,the objective of this study was to determine whether phenotypic and genotypic variation exist,and it relationships with population reduction *** four beech populations in the states of Hidalgo and Veracruz,we analyzed 11 morphological variables for leaves and 6 micros atellite *** morphological variables that to discriminate between populations were related to the size of the leaf,but a robust differentiation pattern was not found,given that independent groups of leaves were *** populations located closest to each other,had greater genetic variation and less genetic distance;populations in the extreme north and south had the lowest genetic *** differentiation among populations was associated with reduction in population *** the 3 localities in Hidalgo,recent bottlenecks were identified,and in Veracruz,an old bottleneck was *** in leaf morphology and genetic structure of mexican beech populations could be the result of a combination of various geographical,climate and ecological factors.

This paper presents an upper limb exoskeleton that allows cognitive(through electromyography signals)and physical user interaction(through load cells sensors)for passive and active exercises that can activate neuroplasticity in the rehabilitation process of people who suffer from a neurological *** the exoskeleton to be easily accepted by patients who suffer from a neurological injury,we used the ISO9241-210:2010 as a methodology design *** the first steps of the design process,design requirements were collected from previous usability tests and ***,as a second step,a technological solution is proposed,and as a third step,the system was evaluated through performance and user *** part of the technological solution and to allow patient participation during the rehabilitation process,we have proposed a hybrid admittance control whose input is load cell or electromyography *** hybrid admittance control is intended for active therapy exercises,is easily implemented,and does not need musculoskeletal modeling to ***,electromyography signals classification models and features were evaluated to identify the best settings for the cognitive human–robot interaction.

Phasor measurement units(PmUs)are fundamental tools in the applications of modern power systems,where synchronized phasor estimations are *** accuracy and dynamic performance requirements for phasor,frequency,and rate of change of frequency(ROCOF)estimations are established in the IEEE Std.C37.118.1-2011 along with the IEEE Std.C37.118.1 a-2014,where two PmU performances are suggested:P class filters for applications requiring fast response and m class filters for applications requiring high rejection to aliased *** this paper,a methodology to design new phasor estimators that satisfy the P class and m class requirements in PmUs is *** proposed methodology is based on finite impulse response filters,brick-wall filters,and complex filter design concepts,where frequency range,time performance,harmonic rejection and out-of-band interference requirements are considered in its design.A comparative analysis using the reference model given by the IEEE Std.C37.118.1 is *** results show the effectiveness of the phasor estimators under steady-state and dynamic conditions according to the PmU standard,making them suitable tools for applications in power systems.

Aims Changes in the structure and composition of forests,whether caused by natural or anthropic events,alter the microenviron-ment,sometimes *** the local environment has a direct impact on basic ecological processes,this has become a key component of *** beech forests(Fagus grandi-folia ***)in the Sierra madre Oriental are restricted to sites with specific climate,soils and topography,making them an ideal natural system for ecological *** objectives of this study were to identify the relationship between the microen-vironment and the tree and shrub structure and composition of mexican beech forests in the state of Hidalgo,and to compare the floristic similarity of these forests on the country scale using data from seven *** Specimens were collected for a period of one year at all locali-ties in the state of Hidalgo where beech forests are *** each locality,five 400 m2 plots were established,and structural attributes(basal area,coverage,density and species richness)and six environmental variables were measured in the *** relationship between structure and microenvironment was estimated by simple correlation and canonic correspondence analysis(CCA).in addition,floristic similarity between different beech forest localities in the Sierra madre Oriental was esti-mated by correspondence analysis(CA).Important Findings Twenty tree species and eight shrub species were identified;at all localities studied *** *** dominated the *** multivariate analysis indicated that(i)in the four localities in the state of Hidalgo,all microenvironmental variables except pH are related to the variation observed in species composition and structure;(ii)the El Gosco locality had both tree and shrub species and microenvironmental factors different from those observed in the Fagus forests at the other localities in the study and(iii)the localities studied in order to draw country-scale compa

SUSTAINABLE HOUSE-SCALE PASSIVE RAINWATER CAPTURE LANDSCAPE IN THE DESERT SOUTHWEST

A passive rainwater harvesting technique was used to design a sustainable landscape for a residential lot located in the desert. The design was adapted to the Desert Southwest region of the United States based on thirty years of daily historical climate data including precipitation and reference evapotranspiration (ET0). Four cities including El Paso, TX, Albuquerque, Nm, Phoenix, AZ, and Pahrump, NV, were selected to represent the area. The residential lot was broken up into micro-watersheds reflecting the runoff of water from each separate portion of the house roof, driveway, and lawn area. The paper explains in detail the design steps for one of the micro-watersheds where water retention and infiltration structures were distributed throughout the soil area to capture stormwater runoff close to its source. A passive rainwater capture landscape was obtained by using the stormwater captured in the infiltration structures and stored in the surrounding soil. Native vegetation (shrubs and trees) will use this water exclusively for growth. These plants will not require watering once their root establishment period has passed, except in extreme droughts. meanwhile, stormwater discharge from the lot will decrease and the groundwater recharge will increase. Results indicate that the current urban water budget can be made sustainable by replacing watering of landscape by municipal water with harvested stormwater. This results in a relatively lush and shady environment even in desert climates. The success is an artifact of the tendency of urban watersheds to increase the volume of stormwater relative to pre-development conditions.

Genomic medicine in gastroenterology:A new approach or a new specialty?

Throughout history, many medical milestones have been achieved to prevent and treat human ***'s early conception of illness was naturally holistic or integrative. However, scientific knowledge was atomized into quantitative and qualitative research. In the field of medicine, the main trade-off was the creation of many medical specialties that commonly treat patients in advanced stages of disease. However, now that we are immersed in the post-genomic era, how should we reevaluate medicine? Genomic medicine has evoked a medical paradigm shift based on the plausibility to predict the genetic susceptibility to disease. Additionally, the development of chronic diseases should be viewed as a continuum of interactions between the individual's genetic make-up and environmental factors such as diet, physical activity, and emotions. Thus, personalized medicine is aimed at preventing or reversing clinical symptoms, and providing a better quality of life by integrating the genetic, environmental and cultural factors of diseases. Whether using genomic medicine in the field of gastroenterology is a new approach or a new medical specialty remains an open question. To address this issue, it will require the mutual work of educational and governmental authorities with public health professionals, with the goal of translating genomic medicine into better health policies.

Drought and Spatiotemporal Variability of Forest Fires Across mexico

Understanding the spatiotemporal links between drought and forest fire occurrence is crucial for improving decision-making in fire management under current and future climatic conditions. We quantified forest fire activity in mexico using georeferenced fire records for the period of 2005–2015 and examined its spatial and temporal relationships with a multiscalar drought index, the Standardized Precipitation-Evapotranspiration Index(SPEI). A total of 47975 fire counts were recorded in the 11-year long study period, with the peak in fire frequency occurring in 2011. We identified four fire clusters, i.e., regions where there is a high density of fire records in mexico using the Getis-Ord G spatial statistic. Then, we examined fire frequency data in the clustered regions and assessed how fire activity related to the SPEI for the entire study period and also for the year 2011. Associations between the SPEI and fire frequency varied across mexico and fire-SPEI relationships also varied across the months of major fire occurrence and related SPEI temporal scales. In particular, in the two fire clusters located in northern mexico(Chihuahua, northern Baja California), drier conditions over the previous 5 months triggered fire occurrence. In contrast, we did not observe a significant relationship between drought severity and fire frequency in the central mexico cluster, which exhibited the highest fire frequency. We also found moderate fire-drought associations in the cluster situated in the tropical southern Chiapas where agriculture activities are the main causes of forest fire occurrence. These results are useful for improving our understanding of the spatiotemporal patterns of fire occurrence as related to drought severity in megadiverse countries hosting many forest types as mexico.
