Phasor measurement units(PMUs)are fundamental tools in the applications of modern power systems,where synchronized phasor estimations are *** accuracy and dynamic performance requirements for phasor,frequency,and rate of change of frequency(ROCOF)estimations are established in the IEEE Std.C37.118.1-2011 along with the IEEE Std.C37.118.1 a-2014,where two PMU performances are suggested:P class filters for applications requiring fast response and M class filters for applications requiring high rejection to aliased *** this paper,a methodology to design new phasor estimators that satisfy the P class and M class requirements in PMUs is *** proposed methodology is based on finite impulse response filters,brick-wall filters,and complex filter design concepts,where frequency range,time performance,harmonic rejection and out-of-band interference requirements are considered in its design.A comparative analysis using the reference model given by the IEEE Std.C37.118.1 is *** results show the effectiveness of the phasor estimators under steady-state and dynamic conditions according to the PMU standard,making them suitable tools for applications in power systems.

In the last decade,attention has become greater to the relationship between neurodegeneration and abnormal insulin signaling in the central nervous system,as insulin in the brain is implicated in neuronal survival,plasticity,oxidative stress and *** mellitus and Parkinson’s disease are both aging-associated diseases that are turning into epidemics *** mellitus and insulin resistance not only increase the possibility of developing Parkinson’s disease but can also determine the prognosis and progression of Parkinsonian ***,there are no available curative or disease modifying treatments for Parkinson’s disease,but the role of insulin and antidiabetic medications in neurodegeneration opens a door to treatment repurposing to fight against Parkinson’s disease,both in diabetic and nondiabetic Parkinsonian ***,it is essential to comprehend how a frequent and treatable disease such as diabetes can influence the progression of neurodegeneration in a challenging disease such as Parkinson’s ***,we review the present evidence on the connection between Parkinson’s disease and diabetes and the consequential implications of the existing antidiabetic molecules in the severity and development of Parkinsonism,with a particular focus on glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonists.

The newly developed ＂MTS 1500＂ Melt Treatment System is performing the specifically required melt treatment operations like degassing, cleaning, modification and/or grain refinement by an automated process in one step and at the same location. This linked process is saving time, energy and metal losses allowing - by automated dosage of the melt treatment agents - the production of a consistent melt quality batch after batch. By linking the MTS Metal Treatment System with sensors operating on-line in the melt, i.e., with a hydrogen sensor ＂Alspek H＂, a fully automated control of parts of the process chain like degassing is possible. This technology does guarantee a pre-specified and documented melt quality in each melt treatment batch. Furthermore, to ensure that castings are consistent and predictable there is a growing realization that cdtical parameters such as metal cleanliness must be measured prior to casting. There exists accepted methods for measuring the cleanliness of an aluminum melt but these can be both slow and costly. A simple, rapid and meaningful method of measuring and bench marking the cleanliness of an aluminum melt has been developed to offer the foundry a practical method of measuring melt cleanliness. This paper shows the structure and performance of the integrated MTS melt treatment process and documents achieved melt quality standards after degassing, cleaning, modification and grain refinement operations under real foundry conditions. It also provides an insight on a melt cleanliness measuring device ＂Alspek MQ＂ to provide foundry men better tools in meeting the increasing quality and tighter specification demand from the industry.

Ifirst met Dr. Andrew V Schally （PhD, MDhc （Multi）, DSc, Distinguished Medical Research Scientist, U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs Professor of Pathology and Department of Medicine, Miller School of Medicine, University of Miami, Miami, Florida, USA） many years ago, probably around the beginning of the 1990＇s in one of his visits to Mexico City （Figure 1）. He has many friends in my country since some of the investigations that led to the development of the LHRH agonists were made in a couple of Mexican hospitals in collaboration with some outstanding Mexican physicians that I will mention later. In that time, I was the head of the Department of Urology of the Mexican National Cancer Institute and our Director, Dr. Jaime de la Garza, invited him for a meeting. I was surprised by his humbleness, intelligence and easy going personality, in spite of being a Nobel Prize scientist.

This paper develops an approach to control unstable nonlinear multi-inputs multi-output(MIMO) square plants using MIMO fractional order(FO) controllers. The controller design uses the linear time invariant(LTI) state space representation of the nonlinear model of the plant and the diagonal closedloop transfer matrix(TM) function to ensure decoupling between inputs. Each element of the obtained MIMO controller could be either a transfer function(TF) or a gain. A TF is associated in turn with its corresponding FO TF. For example, a D(Derivative) TF is related to a FO TF of the form Dδ, δ =[0, 1]. Two applications were performed to validate the developed approach via experimentation: control of the angular positions of a manipulator, and control of the car and arm positions of a translational manipulator.

It is well known that smart thermostats (STs) have become key devices in the implementation of smart homes;thus, they are considered as primary elements for the control of electrical energy consumption in households. Moreover, energy consumption is drastically affected when the end users select unsuitable STs or when they do not use the STs correctly. Furthermore, in future, Mexico will face serious electrical energy challenges that can be considerably resolved if the end users operate the STs in a correct manner. Hence, it is important to carry out an in-depth study and analysis on thermostats, by focusing on social aspects that influence the technological use and performance of the thermostats. This paper proposes the use of a signal detection theory (SDT), fuzzy detection theory (FDT), and chi-square (CS) test in order to understand the perceptions and beliefs of end users about the use of STs in Mexico. This paper extensively shows the perceptions and beliefs about the selected thermostats in Mexico. Besides, it presents an in-depth discussion on the cognitive perceptions and beliefs of end users. Moreover, it shows why the expectations of the end users about STs are not met. It also promotes the technological and social development of STs such that they are relatively more accepted in complex electrical grids such as smart grids.

Two-phase flow in porous media is a very active field of research,due to its important applications in groundwater pollution,CO_(2)sequestration,or oil and gas production from petroleum reservoirs,just to name a few of *** flow equations,which make use of Darcy's law,for describing the movement of two immiscible fluids in a porous medium,are among the most relevant mathematical models in reservoir *** work aims to solve a fractional flow model formed by an elliptic equation,representing the spatial distribution of the pressure,and a hyperbolic equation describing the space-time evolution of water *** numerical solution of the elliptic part is obtained using a finite-element(FE)scheme,while the hyperbolic equation is solved by means of two dif-ferent numerical approaches,both in the finite-volume(FV)*** is based on a monotonic upstream-centered scheme for conservation laws(MUSCL)-Hancock scheme,whereas the other makes use of a weighted essentially non-oscillatory(ENO)*** both cases,a first-order centered(FORCE)-αnumerical scheme is applied for inter-cell flux reconstruction,which constitutes a new contribution in the field of fractional flow models describing oil-water movement.A relevant feature of this work is the study of the effect of the parameterαon the numerical solution of the models *** also show that,in the FORCE-αmethod,when the parameterαincreases,the errors diminish and the order of accuracy is more properly attained,as verified using a manufactured solution technique.

Tropical montane cloud forest is one of the ecosystems with the highest biomass worldwide, representing an important carbon store. Globally its deforestation index is –1.1%, but in Mexico it is higher than –3%. Carbon estimates are scarce globally, particularly in Mexico. The objective of this study was to simulate future land-cover scenarios for the Sierra Madre Oriental in Mexico, by analyzing past forest cover changes. Another objective was to estimate stored carbon in the two study areas. These objectives involve the generation of information that could be useful inputs to anti-deforestation public policy such as the REDD+ strategy. Remote sensing was used to measure land cover change and estimate carbon stocks. Satellite images from 2015, 2000 and 1986 were used, and Dinamica EGO freeware generatedmodels of future projections. Between 1986 and 2015, 5171 ha of forest were converted to pasture. The annual deforestation rates were –1.5% for Tlanchinol and –1.3% for the San Bartolo Tutotepec sites. Distance to roads and marginalization were highly correlated with deforestation. By 2030, an estimated 3608 ha of forest in these sites will have been converted to pasture. Stored carbon was estimated at 16.35 Mg C ha-1 for the Tlanchinol site and 12.7 Mg C ha-1 for the San Bartolo site. In the Sierra Madre Oriental deforestation due to land cover change(–1.4%) is higher than levels reported worldwide. Besides having high values of stored carbon(14.5 Mg C ha-1), these forests have high biodiversity. The models' outputs show that the deforestation process will continue if action is not taken to avoid the expansion of livestock pasturing. This can be done by paying incentives for forest conservation to the owners of the land. The results suggest that REDD+ is currently the most viable strategy for reducing deforestation rates in tropical montane cloud forests in Sierra Madre Oriental.

Successes and failures of participation-in-design： Cases from Old Havana, Cuba

Following the fall of the Soviet Union, Cuba faced a crisis that forced it to change its housing approach. Self-help building programs began to supplant the construction of mass standardized housing estates. The Community Architect Program was developed to provide design advice to self-help builders, and it expanded exponentially within a decade. By the year 2000, all municipalities across Cuba had their own Community Architect Office. White the approach of the Community Architect Program has been hailed a breakthrough in the fields of planning and architecture, the particular case of Old Havana suggests that several obstacles prevent residents from benefiting from its services. The author identifies the strengths and limitations of the approach by looking at two home renovation projects in Old Havana and the perceptions of tow-income residents on the work done by community architects. This research indicates that participatory design methods should be complemented by community-based initiatives that address other aspects of the housing development process, such as access to materials, construction, and construction management.
