Drought and Spatiotemporal Variability of Forest Fires Across Mexico

Understanding the spatiotemporal links between drought and forest fire occurrence is crucial for improving decision-making in fire management under current and future climatic conditions. We quantified forest fire activity in Mexico using georeferenced fire records for the period of 2005–2015 and examined its spatial and temporal relationships with a multiscalar drought index, the Standardized Precipitation-Evapotranspiration Index(SPEI). A total of 47975 fire counts were recorded in the 11-year long study period, with the peak in fire frequency occurring in 2011. We identified four fire clusters, i.e., regions where there is a high density of fire records in Mexico using the Getis-Ord G spatial statistic. Then, we examined fire frequency data in the clustered regions and assessed how fire activity related to the SPEI for the entire study period and also for the year 2011. Associations between the SPEI and fire frequency varied across Mexico and fire-SPEI relationships also varied across the months of major fire occurrence and related SPEI temporal scales. In particular, in the two fire clusters located in northern Mexico(Chihuahua, northern Baja California), drier conditions over the previous 5 months triggered fire occurrence. In contrast, we did not observe a significant relationship between drought severity and fire frequency in the central Mexico cluster, which exhibited the highest fire frequency. We also found moderate fire-drought associations in the cluster situated in the tropical southern Chiapas where agriculture activities are the main causes of forest fire occurrence. These results are useful for improving our understanding of the spatiotemporal patterns of fire occurrence as related to drought severity in megadiverse countries hosting many forest types as Mexico.

Hardware Type 2 Fuzzy Logic Position Controller Based on Karnik-Mendel Algorithms

This paper presents an analysis of the KM （Karnik-Mendel） algorithms performance under real time implementation using 3 types： the non-iterative, the iterative and the enhanced, and their feasibility for real-time interval type 2 fuzzy logic control system applications. The results are also compared against NT （Nie-Tan） method that is one of the fastest and simplest defuzzification methods. Because the DC （direct current） servo-motor is one of the most used motors in different industrial applications and the model of the motor is nonlinear, this motor was selected for validating the implementation in real time hardware. This DC motor is a perfect option for studying the real time performance of KM algorithms in order to show up its limits and possibilities for real-time control system applications. These methodologies are implemented in National Instruments LabVIEW FPGA （field programmable gate array） module hardware which is one of the most used platforms in the industry. The results show that the E-KM （enhanced KM） algorithm and the NT method present good results for implementing real-time control applications in real time hardware. Although fuzzy logic type 2 is a good option for working with nonlinear and noise from the sensors, the defuzzification method has to react in a short period of time in order to allow good control response. Hence, a complete study of defuzzification is needed for improving the real time implementations of fuzzy type 2.

The rapid expansion of Internet of Things(IoT)devices deploys various sensors in different applications like homes,cities and *** applications depend upon the accuracy of sensor ***,it is necessary to predict faults in the sensor and isolate their cause.A novel primitive technique named fall curve is presented in this paper which characterizes sensor *** technique identifies the faulty sensor and determines the correct working of the *** sources of sensor faults are explained in detail whereas various faults that occurred in sensor nodes available in IoT devices are also presented in tabular *** prediction in digital and analog sensors along with methods of sensor fault prediction are *** are several advantages and disadvantages of sensor fault prediction methods and the fall curve ***,some solutions are provided to overcome the limitations of the fall curve *** this paper,a bibliometric analysis is carried out to visually analyze 63 papers fetched from the Scopus database for the past five *** novelty is to predict a fault before its occurrence by looking at the fall *** sensing of current flow in devices is important to prevent a major ***,the fall curves of ACS712 current sensors configured on different devices are drawn for predicting faulty or non-faulty *** analysis result proved that if any of the current sensors gets faulty,then the fall curve will differ and the value will immediately drop to *** evaluation metrics for fault prediction are also described in this *** last,this paper also addresses some possible open research issues which are important to deal with false IoT sensor data.

A prospective analysis of factors that influence weight loss in patients undergoing radiotherapy

Malnutrition occurs frequently in patients with ***,a variety of nutritional and tumorrelated factors must be taken into account in these *** this relationship,we aimed to prospectively evaluate the risk factors that influence weight loss in patients undergoing radiotherapy with oral nutritional supplementation and dietetic *** loss of 74 patients during radiotherapy and 1 month after treatment was *** such as age,gender,tumor location,tumor stage,Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group performance status(ECOG PS)score,and the use of chemotherapy were analyzed to evaluate their influence on weight *** patients underwent oral nutritional supplementation and dietetic ***-six(65.7%)patients lost weight,with a mean weight loss of(4.73±3.91)kg,during *** 1 month after treatment,45(66.2%)patients lost weight,presenting a mean weight loss of(4.96±4.04)kg,corresponding to a(6.84±5.24)%net reduction from their baseline *** and neck cancer patients had a mean weight loss of(3.25±5.30)kg,whereas the remaining patients had a mean weight loss of(0.64±2.39)kg(P=0.028)during *** the multivariate analysis,the head and neck tumor location(P=0.005),use of chemotherapy(P=0.011),and ECOG PS score of 2-3(P=0.026)were considered independent risk *** status and parameters,such as tumor location(especially the head and neck),the use of chemotherapy,and the ECOG PS score,should be evaluated before radiotherapy because these factors can influence weight loss during radiotherapy and 1 month after treatment.

High Frequency of Antiviral Resistance Mutations in HBV Genotypes A2 and H: Multidrug Resistance Strains in Mexico

Background and Aims:Lamivudine(3TC),telbivudine(LdT),entecavir(ETV),adefovir(ADF),and tenofovir(TFV)are drugs used to treat hepatitis B virus(HBV)infection,but specific mutations allow some viruses to become resistant to antiviral drugs or to acquire immune escape *** mutations have not been thoroughly investigated in *** study aimed to estimate the prevalence of HBV antiviral resistance and escape ***:This cross-sectional study analyzed 158 *** DNA was extracted,amplified,and sequenced in serum samples using the spin column method,PCR assay,and Sanger’s sequencing,*** genotypes were determined,and HBV mutations were tested using the Geno2pheno ***:Overall,68.4%(108/158)of HBV patients were infected with genotype H,followed by G(11.4%,18/158),A2(10.8%,17/158),F1b(6.9.0%,11/158),D(1.9%,3/158),and E(0.6%,1/158),and 5.1%(8/158)had evidence of *** prevalence of resistance mutations was 8.2%(13/158)and the most common combined mutation was rt180M+***,we found the combinations rt180M+rt204V+rt173L(n=2)and rt180M+rt204V+rt202G(n=1)that confer multidrug resistance to 3TC,LdT,and *** mutations were found in genotypes A2(11.8%,2/17),and H(10.2%,11/108),and escape mutations were detected in HBV genotypes A2(11.8%,2/17),H(10.2%,11/108),F1b(9.1%,1/11)and G(5.6%,1/18).Conclusions:The highest prevalence of antiviral resistance mutations or escape mutations was detected in HBV genotypes A2 and *** earliest cases of HBV multidrug resistance were detected in Mexico.

FedIDS:a federated cloud storage architecture and satellite image delivery service for building dependable geospatial platforms

In Silico Pipeline to Identify Tumor‑Specific Antigens for Cancer Immunotherapy Using Exome Sequencing Data

Tumor-specific antigens or neoantigens are peptides that are expressed only in cancer cells and not in healthy *** of these molecules can induce an immune response,and therefore,their use in immunotherapeutic strategies based on cancer vaccines has been extensively *** based on these approaches have been triggered by the current high-throughput DNA sequencing ***,there is no universal nor straightforward bioinformatic protocol to discover neoan-tigens using DNA sequencing ***,we propose a bioinformatic protocol to detect tumor-specific antigens associated with single nucleotide variants(SNVs)or“mutations”in tumoral *** this purpose,we used publicly available data to build our model,including exome sequencing data from colorectal cancer and healthy cells obtained from a single case,as well as frequent human leukocyte antigen(HLA)class I alleles in a specific *** data from Costa Rican Central Valley population was selected as an *** strategy included three main steps:(1)pre-processing of sequencing data;(2)variant calling analysis to detect tumor-specific SNVs in comparison with healthy tissue;and(3)prediction and characterization of peptides(protein fragments,the tumor-specific antigens)derived from the variants,in the context of their affinity with frequent alleles of the selected *** our model data,we found 28 non-silent SNVs,present in 17 genes in chromosome *** protocol yielded 23 strong binders peptides derived from the SNVs for frequent HLA class I alleles for the Costa Rican *** the analyses were performed as an example to implement the pipeline,to our knowledge,this is the first study of an in silico cancer vaccine using DNA sequencing data in the context of the HLA *** is concluded that the standardized protocol was not only able to identify neoantigens in a specific but also provides a complete pipeline for the eventual design of cancer vaccines using
