This research investigates the soil conditioning effect of sugar cane fields with biochar produced from sugarcane *** influence on the physicochemical and microbiological conditions of the soil and the agronomic performance of sugarcane seedlings was *** this end,the biochar from sugarcane bagasse was produced by pyrolysis in a double drum oven and mixed with soil at rates of 0,1%,3%,and 5%(in weight).The experiment was installed in a greenhouse with two evaluation periods(30 days and 60 days)and five *** pot received a pre-sprouted cane seedling,and the analysis of colony-forming units(bacteria and fungi),physicochemical characteristics of the soil,and growth and development of sugarcane were performed per *** biochar showed a high fixed carbon content(72%)and a specific surface area estimated by the adsorption of methylene blue of 50 m2 g−***,its structure is porous and contains important nutrients(e.g.,CaO,K2O,and P2O5).In the periods evaluated,the applications of the 3%and 5%(in weight)rates of biochar reduced most of the soil fertility ***,the chemical analyses indicated that the sugarcane field soil collected already possessed high *** microbiota was influenced,but only the application of the 3%(in weight)rate at 60 days after planting showed a significant positive effect on the number of bacteria forming units,with an increase of approximately 385%.On the other hand,no significant positive effect on sugarcane development was ***,biochar application in high-fertility sugarcane plantation soil did not result in gains for sugarcane development in the periods evaluated.

t-SNe:A study on reducing the dimensionality of hyperspectral data for the regression problem of estimating oenological parameters

In recent years there is a growing importance in using machine learning techniques to improve procedures in precision agriculture:in this work we perform a study on models capable of predicting oenological parameters from hyperspectral images of wine grape berries,a specially relevant topic to boost production tasks for ***,we explore the capabilities of a novel technique mostly used for visualization,t-Distributed Stochastic Neighbor embedding(t-SNe),for reducing the dimensionality of the highly complex hyperspectral data and compare its performance with Principal Component Analysis(PCA)method,which despite the introduction of many nonlinear dimensionality reduction techniques over the years,had achieved the best results for real-world data across several studies in *** we explore the potential of Kernel t-SNe,an extension to the t-SNe method that allows for the usage of the technique in streaming data or online *** results show that,in a direct comparison,t-SNe achieves better metrics than PCA for most of the data sets in this work and that the regressor(Support Vector Regression,SVR)performs better with the t-SNe reduced features as inputs,accomplishing better predictions with lower error *** the results with current literature,our shallow learning model paired with t-SNe achieves either better or on par results than those reported,even competing with more advanced models that use deep learning techniques,which should propel the introduction of t-SNe in more studies that require dimensionality reduction.

Resistance and susceptibility of alfalfa （Medicago sativa L.） cultivars to the aphid Therioaphis maculata （Homoptera： Aphididae）： insect biology and cultivar evaluation

Biology of the aphid Therioaphis maculata was studied on alfalfa （Medicago sativa L.）, including four resistant （Mesa-Sirsa, CUF101, Baker and Lahontan） and two susceptible （ARC and Caliverde） alfalfa cultivars, and one of the most cropped Brazilian cultivars, Crioula. Under controlled conditions, antibiosis （i.e., reduced longevity, fecundity and increased mortality of the aphid） was observed mainly on the resistant alfalfa cultivars, except on Lahontan. Crioula seemed to be tolerant to aphids. Present data support geographic limitation usage of cultivars, and we suggest Baker and Mesa-Sirsa as sources of antibiosis, and provide biological information of a tropical T. maculata biotype on alfalfa.

The Sergipano Orogenic System(SOS)in southern Borborema Province(Ne Brazil)hosts voluminous Neoproterozoic plutonism related to the Brasiliano/Pan-African *** paper presents comprehensive whole-rock geochemical data,titanite U-Pb ages,and the first combined zircon U-Pb and Lu-Hf isotope results for plutonic rocks from the MacururéDomain to constrain their sources,petrogenesis,and tectonic *** magmatic episodes are recognized and record the evolutionary stages of the orogen.(i)early-collisional magmatism(643–628 Ma)comprises gabbros and diorites with minor tonalites characterized by well-developed tectonic foliation and evidence of solid-state *** rocks are magnesian,high-K calc-alkaline,LILe-and LRee-enriched and provide subchondriticε_(Hf)(t)values(6.5 to4.7)and Orosirian Hf-T^(C)_(DM)model ages(1.83–1.94 Ga).Such features indicate derivation from a lithospheric mantle source metasomatized by incorporating crustal components through subduction processes prior to magma generation,possibly related to the Rhyacian Orogeny(2.20–1.96 Ga).extensive mixing/mingling between basaltic and crust-derived magmas took place at lower crustal depths,producing coeval hybrid diorites and quartz-diorites.(ii)Syn-collisional magmatism(630–624 Ma)encompasses biotite-and muscovite-bearing granodiorites and monzogranites,preserving their structures parallel to the schistosity of the country *** rocks are leucocratic,weakly metaluminous to peraluminous,and contain abundant surmicaceous *** features and geochemical composition suggest an origin related to the partial melting of graywacke protoliths with a subordinate igneous component.(iii)Late-collisional magmatism(625–600 Ma)includes undeformed and isotropic monzonites and granodiorites,which truncate the regional *** rocks are consistently metaluminous and magnesian,showing affinities with the high-K calc-alkaline to shoshonite *** element modeling with su

Studies of biodiversity dynamics have been cast on either long(systematics)or short(ecology)time scales,leaving a gap in coverage for moderate time scales of decades to ***-scale biodiversity information resources now available offer opportunities to fill this gap for many parts of the world via detailed,quantitative comparisons of assemblage composition,particularly for regions without rich time series *** explore the possibility that such changes in avifaunas across the United States and Canada before and after the first three decades of marked global change(i.e.,prior to 1980 versus after 2010)can be reconstructed and characterized from existing primary biodiversity *** an illustration of the potential of this methodology for sites even in regions not as well sampled as the United States and Canada,we also explored changes at a single site in Mexico(Chichén-Itzá).We analyzed two large-scale datasets:one summarizing bird records in the United States and Canada before 1980,and one for the same region after *** used probabilistic inventory completeness analyses to identify sites that have avifaunas that have likely been inventoried more or less *** prepared detailed comparisons between the two time periods to analyze species showing distributional changes over the time period *** identified 139 sites on a 0.05°grid that were demonstrably well-inventoried before 1980 in the United States and Canada,of which 108 were also well-inventoried after *** presence/absence patterns between the two time periods for 601 bird species,we found significant spatial autocorrelation in overall avifaunal turnover(species gained and lost),but not in numbers of species *** noted potential northward retractions of ranges of several species with high-latitude(boreal)distributions,while other species showed dominant patterns of population loss,either rangewide(e.g.,Tympanuchus cupido)or regionally(e.g.,Thryomanes bewickii).We dev

NDRank: optimised parallel search for weather analogues

Global meteorology data are now widely used in various areas, but one of its applications, weather analogues, still require exhaustive searches on the whole historical data. We present two optimisations for the state-of-the-art weather analogue search algorithms: a parallelization and a heuristic search. The heuristic search (NDRank) limits of the final number of results and does initial searches on a lower resolution dataset to find candidates that, in the second phase, are locally validated. These optimisations were deployed in the Cloud and evaluated with eRA5 data from eCMWF. The proposed parallelization attained speedups close to optimal, and NDRank attains speedups higher than 4. NDRank can be applied to any parallel search, adding similar speedups. A substantial number of executions returned a set of analogues similar to the existing exhaustive search and most of the remaining results presented a numerical value difference lower than 0.1%. The results demonstrate that it is now possible to search for weather analogues in a faster way (even compared with parallel searches) with results with little to no error. Furthermore, NDRank can be applied to existing exhaustive searches, providing faster results with small reduction of the precision of the results.

Objective:To identify whether Canova medication changes TNF-α and IL-10 serum levels in mice infected with Trypanosoma cruzi Y ***:Animals were divided into five groups:non-treated infected animals(I); benznidazole-treated infected animals(Bz; 100 mg/kg body weight,single daily dose by gavage); Canova medication(CM) treated infected animals(CM;0.2 mL/animal,single daily dose by gavage); benznidazole- and Canova medication–treated infected animals with the above-mentioned dose(Bz+CM);and non-infected animals(C).TNF-α and IL-10 levels were determined in serum aliquots after 4,7,10,13,and 29 days of *** eLISA technique was employed with R&D System *** ***:A high increase in TNF-α and IL-10 levels occurred in the infected and CM-treated groups within the treatment employed on the 10 th day after infection,coupled with a IL-10 decrease on the 13 th day after infection when compared with the other experimental ***:CM may change the balance between plasma cytokine levels(TNF-α and IL-10) in mice infected with Y strain ***,with important consequences leading towards a more severe infection.

A single administration of fish oil inhibits the acute inflammatory response in rats

Objective: To investigate the antiinflammatory effects of a single administration of fish oil(FO) on the acute inflammatory response. Methods: The paw edema and pleurisy models were used to evaluate the effects of FO dissolved in olive oil(FOP) orally administered in a single dose in rats. Nitric oxide(NO) concentrations in the pleural exudate were performed according to the Griess method and the cytokine concentrations were determined by Luminex bead-based multiplex assay. Results: FOP treatment(30 and 300 mg/kg) significantly reduced paw edema. FOP treatment at 18.75, 37.5, 75.0, 150.0, and 300 mg/kg decreased both the volume of pleural exudate and cellular migration into the pleural cavity and each of these doses presented the same effectiveness. Treatment with FOP(300 mg/kg) reduced NO, TNF-α, IL-1β, and IL-6 concentrations in the pleural exudate. Conclusions: The present data provide evidence that FO has inhibitory effects on the acute inflammatory response when administered in a single dose in rats. This effect might be attributable to a direct inhibitory effect of FO on the production or release of inflammatory mediators that are involved in the pathological processes evaluated herein.
