The s.atial pattern dis.rib.tion of plant hormones.in res.ons. to aluminum (Al) toxicity in roots.remains.to b. s.own. This.s.udy was.performed to as.es. the root hormonal accumulation and g.ne expres.ion in res.ons. to Al toxicity in five trans.enic miniature dwarf tomatoes.cv. Micro-Tom (MT). MT and MT trans.enics.to acid indole acetic, cytokinin, g.b.erellin, ab.cis.c acid and ethylene were cultivated in nutrient s.lutions.containing.different Al concentrations. Root g.owth elong.tion was.meas.red and cellular damag. was.vis.alized b. s.aining.Evans.s.b.ue. The g.s.reporter g.ne s.aining.technique was.us.d to vis.alize hormonal chang.s.in MT apex root tis.ues. Data indicated that the MT is.s.ns.tive to Al that induced s.g.ificant g.owth inhib.tion and cellular damag.. Al concentration of 27 μM was.s.g.ificantly toxic, inducing.root apex darkening.and inhib.tion of root development. The qualitative evaluation of g.s.reporter g.ne expres.ion s.owed intens. cros.talk among.all hormones.s.udied, unders.oring.the complexity of s.g.aling.induced b. Al in apex roots. Res.lts.point out to a major unders.anding.of the hormonal s.g.aling.in res.ons. to Al toxicity, which may induce a chang. of root g.owth and architecture with g.owth inhib.tion and cell cons.raints.modulated b. all different hormones.evaluated.

Res.n flow was.meas.red in red-cockaded woodpecker (Picoides.b.realis.Vieillot) clus.ers.in long.eaf pine (Pinus.palus.ris.Mill.) in the s.uthern reg.on of the Ang.lina National Fores., Texas. Res.n flow (ml) at 1.4 m heig.t over 24 hrs.was.meas.red from one 2.5 cm punch throug. the phloem b.tween 0700 and 1000 hrs.from March 1999 to s.ptemb.r 2000, for a total of 9 meas.rements.per tree. Res.n was.s.mpled in naturally active cavity trees. artificial (ins.rt) active, natural inactive, artificial inactive and control pines.(84 s.mple trees.. Res.n flow pattern was.s.g.ificantly different during.the year, b.t not s.g.ificantly different in the cavity tree type res.n flow. Cavity trees.in the 90th percentile (>33.0 ml res.n in 24 hrs. were defined as.s.per res.n producing. Hig. averag. res.n flows.in Aug.s. 1999 and s.ptemb.r 2000 indicate when to s.mple res.n for potential cavity trees. Reg.es.ion equations.were produced to es.imate future res.n production.
