AIM:To evaluate changes in colorectal cancer(CRC) survival over the last 20 years.METHODS:We compared two groups of consecutive CRC patients that were prospectively recruited:Group Ⅰincluded 1990 patients diagnosed between 1980 and 1994.GroupⅡincluded 871 patients diagnosed in 2001.RESULTS:The average follow up time was 21 mo(1-229)for GroupⅠand 50 mo(1-73.4)for GroupⅡ.Overall median survival was significantly longer in Group Ⅱthan in GroupⅠ(73 mo vs 25 mo,P<0.001)and the difference was significant for all tumor stages.Post surgical mortality was 8% for GroupⅠand 2% for Group Ⅱ(P<0.001).Only 17% of GroupⅠpatients received chemotherapy compared with 50% of GroupⅡpatients(P<0.001).CONCLUSION:Survival in colorectal cancer patients has doubled over the past 20 years.This increase seems to be partly due to the generalization in the administration of chemotherapy and to the decrease of post surgical mortality.

The protein apoptoUc protease activating factor I （Apafl） is the central component of the apoptosome, a multiprotein complex that activates procaspase-9 after cytochrome c release from the mitochondria in the intrinsic pathway of apoptosis. We have developed a vital method that allows fluorescence-activated cell sorting of cells at different stages of the apoptotic pathway and demonstrated that upon pharmacological inhibition of Apafl, cells recover from doxorubicinor hypoxia-induced early apoptosis to normal healthy cell. Inhibiting Apafl not only prevents procaspase-9 activation but delays massive mitochondrial damage allowing cell recovery.

Effects of exercise-based cardiac rehabilitation on inflammatory biomarkers in patients with cardiovascular disease:a systematic review with meta-analysis

Background:Evidence supports the anti-inflammatory effect of exercise-based cardiac rehabilitation(CR)in patients with cardiovascular disease(CVD).Nonetheless,the influence of training variables on the effects of exercise training is debateable.Therefore,this systematic review with meta-analysis aims to i)estimate the effects of exercise-based CR on the circulating levels of inflammatory biomarkers in patients with CVD based on the type of exercise,and ii)analyse the influence of other potential moderator variables.Methods:Electronic searches were performed in PubMed,Scopus,and Web of Science databases up to October 2022.A random-effects models of standardised mean difference(SMD)were used.Subgroup analyses and meta-regressions were used to carry out heterogeneity analyses.Results:Aerobic exercise diminished the levels of C-reactive protein compared with the control group in patients with CVD(SMD+=-0.33[95%CI=-0.47,-0.20),as well as the levels of tumor necrosis factor-alfa exclusively in patients with chronic heart failure(SMD+=-0.38[95%CI=-0.59,-0.17]).Moreover,heterogeneity analyses showed that the effect of aerobic exercise on vascular cell adhesion molecule-1 is higher in studies that carried out a CR programme based exclusively on exercise,as well as in studies that performed a shorter intervention period or carried out a lower number of exercise sessions(P≤0.05).Conclusion:Our findings support the anti-inflammatory effect of aerobic exercise in patients with CVD.The low number of studies testing interventions using resistance or combined exercise precludes a definitive answer about their anti-inflammatory effects in this patient population.

The Energy Climate Package is the EU response to the Global Warming Challenge.Induction heating processes can contribute to the energy saving goal:20%saving within 2020.European induction manufacturer already propose many efficient solutions at industrial scale.To improve induction devices for an always better energy efficiency, EDF R&D set up a French cooperative project called ISIS with a financial support of the French National Research Agency.Its objective is to promote induction heating as Best Available Technology(BAT)and to develop innovative solutions to increase its efficiency.The ISIS innovations concern the electroheat conversion of induction devices(auto-adaptive multi-coil power supply,low losses coils)and the recovering of fatally lost energy.This paper shows the mid-term results of this project.Firsts control algorithms were successfully tested on a 100 kW 3-coil power supply.A homogenization technique is proposed to model a multi-strand coil.A heat recovery test bench is build and equipped with a PFC control loop to fit with the production fluctuations.

Psycho-medical aspects on migrants health of III? world pediatric surgical patients

The constantly expanding world wide mobility and globalization within the pediatric community puts new demands on pediatric surgical health care systems worldwide. Forcing carers to pay attention not only on their best surgical and medical performance like in the past. In contrary, they are forced to pay much more attention on psycho-medical aspects like finance, rehabilitation, socialization and integration, culture, management and logistics, health edu-cation and language skills. Then, according to our opinion these aspects should be considered as Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)-like syndrome and treated accordingly. Then handling this problem succesfully, would be essential for the future survival of any health care system.

Quantification of Cement Content in Mortars Using the Background of X-Ray Diffraction Spectra

This study proposes a model to determine the content of cement in mortars using the background of X-ray diffraction (XRD) spectra taking advantage of the fact that fluorescence radiation for the Cu anticathode is different in cement paste and aggregates, and also that cement paste and aggregates have different crystallinity degrees. The method has been tested for limestone mortars with five different types of cement: I52,5N/SR, CEMII/A-L32,5N, IIIA42,5N/SR, IVA(V)32,5N/SR y CAC.

本案是伊朗纳马齐教学医院（Namazi Teaching Hospital）内部的一所清真寺。业主要求设计师在有70年树龄的古树旁与医院主干道环绕的老祷告厅之间,设计一座能容纳最多祷告者人数的清真寺,并且保留古树与旧建筑。于是设计师采用了不带庭院的清真寺形式,将古树之间的整片面积作为可供设计的区域。由于陈旧的老祷告厅作为历史的一部分而存在,新清真寺便紧挨着老祈祷厅而建。
