Interpretation of architectural identity through landmark architecture： The case of Prishtina, Kosovo from the 1970s to the 1980s

The period in Kosovo from the 1970s to the early 1980s is important yet insufficiently explored. The period is characterized by a liberal approach toward the development of the region. Such development of Kosovo was evident in all spheres of life, including architecture, which functions as an integral part of a society and its progress. This progress was ＂supported＂ with an intention to overpower the existing architectural environment and the overall identity of the region in some way. However, when this progress was realized wherein numerous buildings considered important were materialized, an intention to have the earlier and ＂original＂ spatial structures to be replaced became evident. In the case of Kosovo, the term ＂liberal＂ can be understood negatively and positively. From the architectural viewpoint, desi^Ins tend to follow technological advances and ＂trends＂ of the time. Consequently, the materialization of such buildings, which are surrounded by symbolisms related to different types of identity and leading toward regional modernism, is an important part to emphasize. The current study aims to consider important thoughts about architectural identity and its categories in general but specific to the context of Kosovo. The history of the region has a critical story of influences toward its formation. Although several philosophies were accepted by the mass, others produced the antidote of the actual input. This study considers theimportance of finding the best possible interpretation of Kosovo＇s architectural identity, such that Kosovo can be well known in the future as it was in the past.

Improvement of Glacial Lakes Detection under Shadow Environment Using ASTER Data in Himalayas, Nepal

The detection of glacial lake change in the Himalayas, Nepal is extremely significant since the glacial lake change is one of the crucial indicators of global climate change in this area, where is the most sensitive area of the global climate changes. In the Hima- layas, some of glacial lakes are covered by the dark mountains＇ shadow because of their location. Therefore, these lakes can not be de- tected by conventional method such as Normalized Difference Water Index （NDWI）, because the reflectance feature of shadowed glacial lake is different comparing to the ones which are located in the open flat area. The shadow causes two major problems： 1） glacial lakes which are covered by shadow completely result in underestimation of the number of glacial lakes; 2） glacial lakes which are partly iden- tified are considered to undervalue the area of glacial lakes. The aim of this study is to develop a new model, named Detection of Shadowed Glacial Lakes （DSGL） model, to identify glacial lakes under the shadow environment by using Advanced Space-borne Ther- mal Emission and Reflection Radiometer （ASTER） data in the Himalayas, Nepal. The DSGL model is based on integration of two dif- ferent modifications of NDWI, namely NDWls model and NDWIshe model. NDWI~ is defined as integration of the NDWI and slope analysis and used for detecting non-shadowed lake in the mountain area. The NDWIshe is proposed as a new methodology to overcome the weakness of NDWI~ on identifying shadowed lakes in highly elevated mountainous area such as the Himalayas. The first step of the NDWIshe is to enhance the data from ASTER 1B using the histogram equalization （HE） method, and its outcome product is named AS- TERho. We used the ASTERhe for calculating the NDWIhc and the NDWIshe. Integrated with terrain analysis using Digital Elevation Model （DEM） data, the NDWIshe can be used to identify the shadowed glacial lakes in the Himalayas. NDWIs value of 0.41 is used to identify the glacier lake （NDWI~ 〉 0.

背景与目的脂肪移植是一项很有前景的软组织填充增大技术，但移植疗效持久性存在高度不可预知性，而且影响移植成活率的因素尚未明确。因为具有分化的潜能和释放生长因子的能力，脂肪来源干细胞（adipose-derivedstemcells，ADSCs）可在移植修复过程中起关键作用。我们旨在确定ADSCs在人体脂肪中呈现的生物学特性是否与移植体积的体内效果保持存在关联。方法利用标准的离心分离技术对从8例人体受术者获取的脂肪抽吸物进行处理，然后将其注射至6周龄无胸腺裸鼠躯体两侧。测量移植物的质量和体积，于移植后8周进行包含针对血管的CD31^＋染色的组织学评估。从各供体脂肪抽吸物中分离获取基质血管细胞群（stromalvascularfraction，SVF），利用多参数流式细胞术对其表面标记物进行分析，并对其增值、分化能力和正常含氧量／低含氧量血管内皮细胞生长因子（vas—cularendothelialgrcwlhfactor，VEGF）的分泌情况进行实验研究。结果从不同供体中获取的SVF，其CD34^＋祖细胞含量百分率存在较大差异，其平均值为21．3％±15．O％（X±s）。SVF细胞的增殖速率和成脂潜能在不同供体间存在较为中等差异。在小鼠异种移植研究中，移植后8周体积保存的量约为36％～68％，总体平均值为52％±11％。SVF中CD34^＋祖细胞的含量与脂肪移植效果持久性方面存在较强的关联（P〈0．05）。结论在不同患者之间，其脂肪组织的内在生物学特性存在差异。特别是SVF中CD34^＋祖细胞的浓度可能是影响脂肪移植持久性的因素之一。

Observation-Oriented Causal Discovery for Cultivation Abandonment of Rice Terraces: Focusing on an Effect of Cultural Endemism on Decision-Making in Toraja, Indonesia

Previous discussion about the factors of the expanding trend of abandoned cultivation had focused only on universal factors and lacked evaluation of the regionality of the phenomenon. This paper demonstrated the Toraja’s regional characteristics and the influence of cultural endemism on decision-making about abandoning cultivation by an observation-oriented approach. Based on a causal framework constructed by field observation and geospatial data generation, an adjustment for overt covariates using the multivariate logistic regression model to draw the causal effect from hidden covariates was examined in two rice terraces with different water systems, i.e. irrigated field and rain-fed field. The result of sub-group analysis revealed that decisions about abandoning cultivation in Toraja were greatly associated with disadvantageous factors for intensive farming, i.e. “number of adjacent fields” and “soil erosion” rather than advantageous factors, i.e. “area of field” and “distance to roads”. Moreover, the result of interaction analysis which controlled the effect of topography revealed the powerful effect of particular decision factors only in rain-fed rice terrace: the “distance to roads” factor’s fairly negative contribution on abandoning cultivation (Odds ratio = 9.94E - 01, P value = 2.03E - 11), as well as the “number of adjacent field” factor’s positive contribution on abandoning cultivation (Odds ratio = 1.13E+00, P value = 3.65E - 04). Given the evidence from the explanation of these results by customary laws and land inheritance system for each site, therefore, it could be concluded that the screening and detection of cultural endemism’s influence was achieved using the algorithm this paper proposes.

Maculopapular Rash with Fever: Reporting of a Case with Imported Measles and Diagnostic Difficulties in Non-Epidemic Times

Background: Measles is a highly contagious infection caused by the measles virus with a worldwide distribution. Measles is one of the diseases that have been reported in our country since 1945. It is known that international travelers are an important source of infectious pathologies. Our goal is to document a case of imported Measles and the difficulty of diagnosing it, especially in non-epidemic times. Cases Presentation: We presently report a 20-year-old woman who was hospitalized at the Infectious Disease Service for fever and maculopapular rash. She had traveled outside of Albania. Measles ELISA IgM (blood) resulted positive while other serological examinations resulted negative. Our case was treated with antibiotics, multivitamins and intravenous fluids. She was subsequently discharged home in good clinical condition. Conclusions: Measles should be included in the differential diagnosis of patients with symptoms of fever and rash, in particular when they have traveled abroad. Patients who have received the Measles vaccine should not be excluded from clinical suspicion and further diagnostic tests for this disease as it can affect this group of patients as well.

Changes in Imja Lake and Karda Lake in the Everest Region of Himalaya

The Himalaya is a region sensitive to climate change. Changes in the glacial regime are one indicator of global climate changes. There are several studies focusing on analysis of temporal changes of these glacial lakes in the Himalaya region. However, the researches on addressing these trends in relation with surrounding topographical conditions are quite limited. In this study, we analyzed spatio-temporal changes in Imja Lake, located on the southern slope, and Karda Lake, located on the northern slope of the Mt. Everest region, in 1976, 1992, 2000, and 2008. Moreover, we examined whether the topographic conditions differ between the two slopes. Landsat and ASTER GDEM (advanced space borne thermal emission and reflection radiometer, global digital elevation model) data were used to identify boundaries of target glacial lakes and to calculate three indices of growth rate compared to year of 1976 (%, GRa), growth rate compared to preceding year (%, GRb), and growth speed (m2/year, GS) of the two lakes. The topographic conditions in circular buffer zones from the centroid of the two lakes were analyzed. Although the area of two lakes demonstrated linear increase from 1976 to 2008, growth rate compared to year of 1976 (GRa) differed significantly (Kruskal-Wallis test, p squared test for independence on m × n contingency table between 1976, 1992, 2000, and 2008 on growth speed (GS)). MODIS数据在当今的森林火灾监测中得到了广泛的应用,其用途大多是用来监测林火和研究林火对大气环境所产生的影响等等。而森林火灾在其燃烧的过程中是有着不同的类别,如暗火、明火、过火、火烧迹地等,不同的林火类别在其亮温上的表现是不同的。但是仅凭借亮温是不能够准确的识别林火燃烧过程的类别,还需要有植被信息来加以判读。本文对林火燃烧的过程分了五类,即明火、暗火、过火、火烧迹地和非燃地区,选取了俄罗斯远东地区的林区,利用MODIS数据的CH21和CH31热红外波段,对林火在燃烧过程中亮温数值的变化进行研究,并与植被指数和多时相数据相结合进行综合分析,最后采用监督分类和决策树分类方法进行解译分类,以便更好的辨别森林火灾在燃烧过程中的不同阶段,使其能够快速、有效的对森林火灾进行监测和控制。

Correlation between Anatomy and Root Canal Topography of First Maxillary Premolar on Kosovar Population

Aim: In this in vitro study the variation of root anatomy and canal system of the first human maxillary premolar was evaluated. Materials and Methods: Two hundred and twenty one maxillary first premolars (#221 teeth) were examined. All of the teeth were identified using the accepted criteria of Woelfel as maxillary first premolars. Selected teeth are analyzed using operating microscope (OP) and computed dental radiography (CDR). Results: There was a higher incidence of two-roots form 70.14% (n = 155), 21.72% (n = 48) had one root, and 8.14% (n = 18) had three roots. In the two-root category, 16.29% (n = 36) had bifurcation on apical third, 21.72% (n = 48) had bifurcation on middle third, and 32.13% (n = 71) had bifurcation on cervical third. The examination of root canal systems of the teeth was based on Vertucci’s classification type of canal: 64.58% (#31) of the cases had type IV (2-2-2), 25.00% (#12) type II (2-2-1), 8.33% (#4) type I (1-1-1), and 2.09% (#1) type III (1-2-1). Conclusion: This study showed a high incidence of two-rooted maxillary first premolars collected from different regions in Kosovo. Internal root canal system morphology reflects the external root anatomy. Furthermore, there is correlation between the shape of the outer surface of the root and the shape of the root canal. The cases with one root of the maxillary first premolar with a deep depression on the mesial side contain a double root canal system more often than a single canal.

Study of Rice Husks and Expanded Polystyrene Composites for Construction Applications

In the current context of environmental challenges, this study focuses on developing innovative and eco-friendly composites using rice husk and recycled expanded polystyrene. This dual-responsibility approach valorizes a by-product like rice husk, often considered waste, and reuses polystyrene, a plastic waste, thereby contributing to CO2 emission reduction and effective waste management. The manufacturing process involves dissolving recycled polystyrene into a solvent to create a binder, which is then mixed with rice husk and cold-compacted into composite materials. The study examines the impact of two particle sizes (fine and coarse) and different proportions of recycled polystyrene binder. The results show significant variations in the mechanical characteristics of the composites, with Modulus of Rupture (MOR) values varying from 2.41 to 3.47 MPa, Modulus of Elasticity (MOE) ranging from 223.41 to 1497.2 MPa, and Stiffness Coefficient (K) from 5.04 to 33.96 N/mm. These characteristics demonstrate that these composites are appropriate for various construction applications, including interior decoration, panel claddings, and potentially for furniture and door manufacturing when combined with appropriate coatings. This study not only highlights the recycling of agricultural and plastic waste but also provides a localized approach to addressing global climate change challenges through the adoption of sustainable building materials.
