Antimicrobial Activity of the Methanolic Extract and Compounds from the Stem Bark of Drypetes tessmanniana

Objective： to evaluate the antimicrobial activity of the methanol extract from the stem bark of Drypetes tessmanniana, fractions （DtB1-5） as well as compounds [friedelin （2）, 3,7-dioxofriedelane （3）, 3,15-dioxofriedelane （4）, 313 -O-（E）-3,5-dihydroxycinnamoyl-11 -oxo-olean-12-ene （6）, and 313,6 α -dihydroxylup- 20（29）-ene （7）. Methods： Agar disc diffusion was used to determine the sensitivity of the above samples, whilst the microdilution method was used for the determination of the minimal inhibitory concentration （MIC） and the minimal microbicidal concentrations （MMC）. Results： the diffusion test showed that the crude extract was able to prevent the growth of all tested organisms. All other samples showed selective activity. the inhibitory effect of the fraction DtB2 was noted on 63.7%, that of DtB1 and DBt3 on 54.6%, whilst DtB4 and DtB5 were active on 9.1% of the 11 tested organisms. the tested compounds prevented the growth of 81.8% of the tested microbial species for compounds 3 and 4, 36.7% for compound 6, and 18.2% for compound 7. the results of the MIC determinations indicated perceptible values for DtB and compound 4 on 81.8% of the tested organisms. For other samples, MICs were detected on 0-63.7%. the lowest MIC value （78.12 μg/mL） for the crude extract and fractions （DtB2） was observed on M. audouinii. the corresponding value for isolated compounds （156.25 μg/ mL） was noted with compounds 3 on S. faecalis and 4 on M. audouinii. the results of the MMC determination suggested that the microbicidal effect of most of the tested samples on the studied microorganisms could be expected. Conclusion： the methanol extract from the stem bark of Drypetes. tessmanniana （Euphorbiaceae） as well as some of the isolated compounds might be potential sources of new antimicrobial drues.

Petrographic and geochemical characterization of weathered materials developed on BIF from the Mamelles iron ore deposit in the Nyong unit, South-West Cameroon

Iron ore deposits hosted by Precambrian banded iron formation(BIF)are the most important source of mineable *** Cameroon,they are located in the southern part of the *** study reports the petrological and geochemical data of iron ores collected from a weathering profile in the Mamelles BIF deposit,SW *** profile is composed of three levels which are from the bottom to the top:the saprock,the ferruginous horizon,and the loose *** representative iron ore samples(rock fragments and loose clayey material)were collected along the profile and were subjected to petrographic and geochemical *** mineralogy consists of martite,goethite,quartz,and lesser amounts of hematite,magnetite,kaolinite,and *** presence of minerals such as kaolinite and goethite in the Mamelles iron ores suggests their supergene ***,the saprock is characterized by high iron content(70.25 wt%Fe_(2)O_(3) t),and low silica(26.38 wt%SiO_(2))and alumina(1.14 wt%Al_(2) O_(3)).the rock fragments collected from the ferruginous horizon display higher Fe2 O3 t(72-76.40 wt%),Al_(2) O_(3)(2.80-5.43 wt%),and lower SiO_(2)(16.70-18.35 wt%)contents,suggesting the leaching of silica during the enrichment *** loose clayey samples collected from both the ferruginous horizon and the upper loose horizon show lower iron and higher silica *** normalized to the underlying BIF saprock,both rock fragments and loose clayey ores display LREE enrichment,suggesting that they formed through supergene ***,most of the Mamelles iron ores are classified as medium-grade ores and a few display acceptable contents in ***,this petrological and geochemical study of the Mamelles iron ores revealed encouraging *** its strategic location near the deep seaport,the deposit should be investigated in more detail for its mining potential.

以某矿尾砂、废石、棒磨砂为实验材料,采用正交设计实验方法,研究膏体质量分数、水泥掺量、尾骨比(全尾砂、废石和棒磨砂质量比)、泵送剂掺量对充填体早期抗压强度的影响规律。对实验数据进行三维曲面可视化分析和多元非线性回归分析,最后根据实验结果对膏体固结性能的机理进行分析。研究结果表明:水泥掺量和质量分数是早期抗压强度的主要影响因素,m(全尾砂)꞉m(废石)꞉m(棒磨砂)以及泵送剂掺量存在最优值,最优值范围分别为5.0꞉2.5꞉2.5~4꞉3꞉3和1.5%~2.0%。多元非线性二次多项式回归拟合效果最佳,根据所选模型和主观权重t可知,所得目标函数f存在最大值和最小值,最大值为8.97 MPa,最小值为2.87 MPa,均满足7 d强度要求(R7≥2.5 MPa);粗骨料的掺入不仅能进一步提高早期抗压强度,而且粗骨料中的活性物质能与Ca(OH)2发生反应,起到部分胶凝效果。

PML is the organizer of PML Nuclear Bodies (NBs) and recruits onto these sub-nuclear structures a striking variety of very diverse proteins,several of which are implicated in *** may be conjugated bythe small-ubiquitin-like proteins SUMO-1/2/3 and PML conjugation is required for the recruitment of the other NB-associated *** targets 3 specific lysine residues:K65 within the RING finger,K490 within the nuclear localization signal and K160 in the B box. trong>Objective: trong>the present was initiated to study the antibacterial properties of the Crateva adansonii DC extract on germs commonly identified in skin and digestive infections in Benin as well as the reversion of resistance to these aforementioned germs. trong>Method: trong>the bacteria’s sensitivity test to extracts was carried out by the microdilution method in liquid medium as well as the MIC and the reversion of bacterial resistance. For the determination of the MBC, this technique is used coupled with spreading on agar medium. trong>Results: trong>the results show an antibacterial activity of the extract with MICs between 0.625 - 5 mg/ml. the CMB of Enterococcus faecalis AtCC 29212 is 2.5 mg/ml while that of Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus and Staphylococcus epidermidis CIP 8039 is 5 mg/ml. the reversion of bacterial resistance has shown a synergy of action between our extract and conventional antibiotics.

A bad conservation of food is recognized as being one of the critical constraints upon food security among resource poor population across Africa. We have evaluated the traditional management of pests in fish in Central African Republic. the data were analyzed by a factor analysis of correspondence. the Group I contained sensitive species of fish to the attacks of Dermetes frishii, Dermetes lardarius and Dermestes carnivorus. there were: Labeocoubie, Mormyrus deliciosus, Polydactylus quadrifilis, Auchenoglanis occidentalis, Synodontis nigrita, Hydrocynus forskalli, Districhodus rostratus, Hydrocynus goliath and Mormyrusrume. the group II contained sensitive species of fishes to the attacks of D. maculatus. there were: Cyprinus carpio, Malapterurus electricus, Oreochromis mossambicus, Barbus occidentalis and Oreochromis mossambicus. Clariasgariecilus is the mostsensitive of dried fish to the attacks of Dermestes. Oreochromis mossambicus, Mormyrusrume and Synodontis nigrita are the last sensitive of dried fish to the attacks of Dermestes. the results showed that the tradictional management of dried fish in Central African Republic couldn’t be efficient for reducing the development of Dermestes.

Impact of Dewatering on the Spatio-temporal Distribution of Benthic Macroinvertebrate Communities in the Okpara River, Benin

Surface watercourses are areas of very high ecological and heritage value. Macroinvertebrates are bioindicators of the health of aquatic ecosystems. the aim of this study was to assess the effects of dewatering and re-watering cycles on benthic macroinvertebrate (BMI) communities. two data collections were carried out at two stations (Okpara 1 and Okpara 2) on the Okpara river before and after dewatering. thus, 8 samples of benthic macroinvertebrates and 12 physico-chemical parameters (t°C, pH, transparency, Depth, Conductivity, Dissolved Oxygen that were measured in situ, and BOD5, COD, NH4+, NO3-, NO2- and PO43-) were assayed in the laboratory. Canonical Correspondence Analysis (CCA) was used to match physico-chemical data to MIB families. Shannon and Piélou diversity indices were used to determine the effects of dewatering on MIBs. the increase in temperature values of pH, BOD5, COD, NH4+, NO3-, NO2- and PO43-, after re-watering indicates the effect of dewatering on the quality of Okpara aquatic ecosystems. the benthic macrofauna collected consisted of 62.42% insects, 0.65% crustaceans, 6.48% molluscs, 0.72% worms and 0.14% arachnids. Whereas after re-watering, 21.67% insects, 0% crustaceans, 0.22% molluscs, 7.56% worms and 0.29% arachnids were recorded. Insects, crustaceans and molluscs were more abundant before dewatering than after. this was revealed by low abundances and taxonomic richness, as well as low Shannon index values of samples collected after re-watering.

Introduction and Aims: Pharyngostoma or pharyngo-cutaneous fistula is a frequent complication of totals laryngectomies and pharyngo-laryngectomies. Its incidence varies from one series to another from 13% to 58%. Multiple risk factors are known. the data from our environment concerning this condition are few. thus, in order to contribute to the study of this complication in our environment, we proposed to carry out this study, whose objective was to determine the predictive factors for the occurrence of pharyngo-cutaneous fistula or pharyngostoma after total laryngectomy and total pharyngo-laryngectomy in Yaounde and Douala. Patients and Methods: this was a retrospective, cross-sectional, descriptive study conducted in the 5 Ear-Nose-throat (ENt) department of hospital in the city of Yaounde and Douala. the study took place between January 2009 and December 2020. All patients who underwent total laryngectomy or total pharyngo-laryngectomy with a follow-up of at least one month were included in the study. Incomplete records were excluded, as well as those of patients who died before one month of postoperative follow-up. Results: We selected 48 cases of total laryngectomies (tL) and total pharyngo-laryngectomies (tPL), and identified 37 cases of pharyngostoma. 45 men (93.8%) and 3 women (6.3%). the mean age was 56.4 years with extremes ranging from 37 to 86 years. Smoking and alcoholism were noted in 75% and 79.2% of our patients respectively. A tracheotomy before tL and tPL was found in 41.7%. 100% of the tumours found were t3 or t4. the surgery was in 34 cases (70.8%) tL and in 14 cases (29.2%) tPL. Pharyngostomas were observed in 37 cases among 48 patients operated on, i.e. a frequency of 77.1%. the average delay of appearance was 7 to 14 days. We had spontaneous healing with pressure dressing and nasogastric tube feeding in 35 patients (77.8%) and two patients benefited from pectoralis major flap treatment;the healing time was 21 to 30 days. Agricultural Contamination of the Surface Waters of the Upper Ouémé in Benin: the Case of Heavy Metals and Pesticides

Objective: the main objective of this study was to assess the degree of contamination of surface waters by heavy metals and pesticides. Method: to this end, data were collected in December 2022 from four specific sampling stations: Okpara, térou, Affon and Adjiro. Levels of heavy metals, including cadmium, chromium, copper, iron, mercury, nickel and lead, were measured and subjected to in-depth statistical analysis using graphical summation models. In addition, the concentrations of pesticide active ingredients present in the samples were interpreted and evaluated. the statistical data collected during this study were processed using R software, version 3.5.0. Results: the values obtained at the different stations Okpara, térou, Affon and Adjiro are respectively Arsenic (2 × 10-4 mg/L;2.2 × 10-1 mg/L;1.2 × 10-4 mg/L;2 × 10-4 mg/L), Cadmium (4.4 × 10-5 mg/L;1.1 × 10-2 mg/L;10-4 mg/L;4 × 10-4 mg/L). then Copper (7 × 10-4 mg/L;3 × 10-3 mg/L;7 × 10-4 mg/L;1 × 10-4 mg/L), Iron (1.51 mg/L;6.4 × 10-1 mg/L;2.0012 mg/L;2.9 × 10-1 mg/L), Lead (0 mg/L;0 mg/L;1.5 × 10-3 mg/L;1.5 × 10-3 mg/L). Mercury, nickel and chromium were not detected in surface waters. It is important to note that the values obtained for trace metals (Cadmium, Chromium, Copper, Iron, Mercury, nickel and chromium were not detected in surface waters. It is important to note that the values obtained for trace metals (cadmium, chromium, copper, iron, mercury, nickel and lead) were all below the guideline standards set by the WHO in 2006 for uncontaminated surface waters. this indicates that the surface waters of the Upper Ouémé were below acceptable contamination thresholds in terms of heavy metals.
