Improving Rule Base Quality to Enhance Production Systems Performance

Production systems have a special value since they are used in state-space searching algorithms and expert systems in addition to their use as a model for problem solving in artificial intelligence. Therefore, it is of high importance to consider different techniques to improve their performance. In this research, rule base is the component of the production system that we aim to focus on. This work therefore seeks to investigate this component and its relationship with other components and demonstrate how the improvement of its quality has a great impact on the performance of the production system as a whole. In this paper, the improvement of rule base quality is accomplished in two steps. The first step involves re-writing the rules having conjunctions of literals and producing a new set of equivalent rules in which long inference chains can be obtained easily. The second step involves augmenting the rule base with inference short-cut rules devised from the long inference chains. These inference short-cut rules have a great impact on the performance of the production system. Finally, simulations are performed on randomly generated rule bases with different sizes and goals to be proved. The simulations demonstrate that the suggested enhancements are very beneficial in improving the performance of production systems.

Persian medicine is one of the oldest traditional systems of medicine that its history in Persia (Iran) dates back to at least 7000 years ago [1]. This traditional medical system has a holistic approach to health care and treat and is based on humoral theory [2]. Persian medicine was the main paradigm of medicine in Europe, west of Asia and some parts of Africa for centuries. It was flourished during Islamic Golden Age (9th to 13th century).

Effectiveness of revascularization of the ulcerated foot in diabetic patients with peripheral artery disease for one year follow-up

Diabetes is an important risk factor for atherosclerosis. The diabetic foot is characterized by the presence of arteriopathy and neuropathy. When ischemia is diagnosed, restoration of pulsatile blood flow by revascularization may be considered for salvaging the limb. The treatment options are angioplasty with or without stenting and surgical bypass or hybrid procedures combining the two. To evaluate the outcomes of severe ischemic diabetic foot ulcers for which percutaneous transluminal angioplasty (PTA) was considered as the first-line vascular procedure. Factors associated with successful PTA were also evaluated. In 80 consecutive diabetic patients with foot ulcers and severe limb ischemia, PTAwas performed if feasible. All patients were followed until healing or for one year. Clinical and angiographic factors in fluencing outcomes after PTA were sought by univariate and multivariate analysis. PTAwas done in 73 of the 80 (91.2%) patients, and considered clinically succe ssful in 58(79.9%). Successful PTA was significantly higher in patients with Superficial femoral artery, posterior Tibialis and dorsalis pedis arteries involvement in the univariate analysis. Seven patients were expired during the study follow up due to MI, pulmonary thromboembolism and GI bleeding. PTA in diabetic patients with severe ischemic foot ulcers provided favorable. Some parameters could be used for predicting PTA successfulness.

Recent advances in power scaling of fiber lasers are hindered by the thermal issues,which deteriorate the beam ***-Stokes fluorescence cooling has been suggested as a viable method to balance the heat generated by the quantum defect and background *** radiation-balanced configurations rely on the availability of cooling-grade rare-earth-doped gain ***,we perform a series of tests on an ytterbium-doped ZrF4–BaF2–LaF3–AlF3–Na F(ZBLAN)optical fiber to extract its laser-cooling-related parameters and show that it is a viable laser-cooling medium for radiation *** particular,a detailed laser-induced modulation spectrum test is performed to highlight the transition of this fiber to the cooling regime as a function of the pump laser *** simulations support the feasibility of a radiation-balanced laser,but they highlight that practical radiation-balanced designs are more demanding on the fiber material properties,especially on the background absorption,than solid-state laser-cooling experiments.

The propagation loss of a fiber can be increased by coupling core mode and surface mode which will deteriorate the performance of photonic bandgap fiber （PBGF）. In this paper, we presented an aircore PBGF for gas sensing applications. By designing A = 2.63 μm, d = 0.95 A, and Reore= 1.13 A, where A is the distance between the adjacent air holes, the fiber was single-mode, no surface mode was supported with fiber, and more than 90% of the optical power was confined in the core. Furthermore, with optimizing the fiber structural parameters, at wavelength of 2 = 1.55 μm that is in acetylene gas absorption line, significant relative sensitivity of 92.5%, and acceptable confinement loss of 0.09 dB/m, were simultaneously achieved.
