A multi-objective gravitational search algorithm based approach of power system stability enhancement with UPFC

On the basis of the theoretical analysis of a single-machine infinite-bus （sMIB）, using the modified linearized Phil- lips-Heffron model installed with unified power flow controller （UPFC）, the potential of the UPFC supplementary controller to enhance the dynamic stability of a power system is evaluated by measuring the electromechanical controllability through singular value decomposition （sVD） analysis. This controller is tuned to simultaneously shift the undamped electromeehanical modes to a prescribed zone in the s-plane. The problem of robust UPFC based damping controller is formulated as an optimization problem according to the eigenvalue-based multi-objective function comprising the damping factor, and the damping ratio of the undamped electromechanical modes to be solved using gravitational search algorithm （GsA） that has a strong ability to find the most optimistic results. The different loading conditions are simulated on a sMIB system and the rotor speed deviation, internal voltage deviation, DC voltage deviation and electrical power deviation responses are studied with the effect of this flexible AC transmission systems （FACTs） controller. The results reveal that the tuned GsA based UPFC controller using the proposed multi-objective function has an excellent capability in damping power system with low frequency oscillations and greatly enhances the dynamic stability of the power systems.

Mesuaferrea stem bark extract induces apoptosis and inhibits metastasis in human colorectal carcinoma HCT 116 cells, through modulation of multiple cell signalling pathways

Considering the great potential of natural products as anticancer agents, the present study was designed to explore the molecular mechanisms responsible for anticancer activities of Mesua ferrea stem bark extract against human colorectal carcinoma. Based on MTT assay results, bioactive sub-fraction(sF-3) was selected for further studies using HCT 116 cells. Repeated column chromatography resulted in isolation of less active α-amyrin from sF-3, which was identified and characterized by GC-Ms and HPLC methods. α-amyrin and betulinic acid contents of sF-3 were measured by HPLC methods. Fluorescent assays revealed characteristic apoptotic features, including cell shrinkage, nuclear condensation, and marked decrease in mitochondrial membrane potential in sF-3 treated cells. In addition, increased levels of caspases-9 and-3/7 levels were also observed in sF-3 treated cells. sF-3 showed promising antimetastatic properties in multiple in vitro assays. Multi-pathway analysis revealed significant down-regulation of WNT, HIF-1α, and EGFR with simultaneous up-regulation of p53, Myc/Max, and TGF-β signalling pathways in sF-3 treated cells. In addition, promising growth inhibitory effects were observed in sF-3 treated HCT 116 tumour spheroids, which give a hint about in vivo antitumor efficacy of sF-3 phytoconstituents. In conclusion, these results demonstrated that anticancer effects of sF-3 towards colon cancer are through modulation of multiple molecular pathways.

Comparison of Established Risk Factors among Type 2 Diabetic Patients with or without Retinopathy in Golestan Hospital, Ahvaz 2010

The aim of this study was to establish diabetic retinopathy correlation with several risk factors. A prospective study including 256 type II diabetic patients who referred to diabetes’s clinic was designed. All patients underwent physical & retina examination and then completed questionnaire including duration of DM, cardiovascular disease, stroke, chronic kidney disease, smoking, and kind of treatment, blood pressure, BMI, abdominal & hip circumference. Results of HbA1C, total cholesterol, HDL & LDL cholesterol, TG, FBs, creatinine, 24-h urine microalbumin were recorded. Data were analyzed by sPss version 17 with K2, independent samples T, and logistic regression. Of 256 types II diabetic patients 81 & 175 were men and women respectively. Mean age of subject was 54 ± 10.27. Prevalence of diabetic retinopathy was 22.3% & macula edema 0.5% & PDR 6% & NPDR 14%;diabetic retinopathy was associated with duration of DM & BMI (P = 0, P = 0.43 respectively). Mean of FBs 191 ± 83 vs. 165.7 ± 74.5 (P = 0.03), HbA1c 9.1 ± 2 vs. 8.5 ± 1.9 (P = 0.02), 24-h urine microalbumin 181.2 ± 404.7 vs. 60.2 ± 236 (P = 0.03), systolic blood pressure 124.3 ± 21.3 vs. 118.5 ± 17.8 (p = 0.04) differed between diabetic patients with or without diabetic retinopathy. There were no significant difference between subject with & without diabetic retinopathy in total cholesterol LDL, HDL, TG, Cr, Diastolic BP, types of treatment, cardiovascular disease, chronic kidney disease, stroke & smoking. This study showed prevalence of diabetic retinopathy was high and it associated with duration of DM, BMI, FBs, HbA1C, 24-h urine albumin, and systolic blood pressure.

目的帕金森病(PD)、帕金森综合征(Ps)和特发性震颤(ET)是不同类型的运动障碍疾病, 但有部分相同的症状, 因此较难被鉴别诊断。该研究旨在探讨99Tcm-TRODAT-1显像用于区分PD与ET及其他Ps疾病的价值。方法 75例患者纳入该研究, 包括29例PD、6例疑似PD、22例ET和18例Ps患者。99Tcm-TRODAT-1给药后, 应用双探头sPECT/CT仪行基底神经节(BG)显像。BG摄取值被标准化为全脑和枕叶的活性。所有患者确诊随访2～22个月。结果相比于其他亚型, ET患者和药物诱导的Ps患者标准化BG摄取明显增高;但PD和Ps患者之间无显著差异。区分相关疾病的患者是否与BG功能障碍有关的灵敏度与特异性分别为80%和83.3%。将当前显性症状侧的壳核和(或)尾状核位点摄取的不对称和不均匀作为附加衡量指标, 可以获得的阳性预测值为82.6%。结论 99Tcm-TRODAT-1显像可用于区分PD或Ps与ET。通过组合扫描模式, 包括显性症状侧BG的摄取不对称及尾状核和壳核的不均匀, 可能对PD和其他Ps的鉴别诊断有价值。
