successfully utilized non-axisymmetric endwalls to enhance turbine efficiencies(aerodynamic and turbine inlet temperatures)by controlling the characteristics of the secondary flow in a blade *** is accomplished by steady-state numerical hydrodynamics and deep knowledge of the field of *** of the interaction between mainstream and purge flow contributing supplementary losses in the stage,non-axisymmetric endwalls are highly susceptible to the inception of purge flow exit compared to the flat and any advantage rapidly *** conclusions reveal that the supreme endwall pattern could yield a lowering of the gross pressure loss at the design stage and is related to the size of the top-loss location being productively *** has led to diminished global thermal exchange lowered in the passage of the vane *** reverse flow adjacent to the suction side corner of the endwall is migrated farther from the vane surface,as the deviated pressure spread on the endwall accelerates the flow and progresses the reverse flow core still *** depleted association between the tornado-like vortex and the corner vortex adjacent to the suction side corner of the endwall is the dominant mechanism of control in the contoured end *** this publication,we show that the non-axisymmetric endwall contouring by selective numerical shape change method at most prominent locations is advantageous in lowering the thermal load in turbines to augment the net heat flux reduction as well as the aerodynamic performance using multi-objective optimization.

Turbine passage secondary Flow Dynamics and Endwall Heat Transfer Under Different Inflow Turbulence

This study presents endwall hydrodynamics and heat transfer in a linear turbine cascade at Re 5×105 at low and high intensities of *** are numerically predicted using the standard ssT model and Reθ-γtransition model as well as using the high-resolution LEs *** major secondary flow components,comprising the horseshoe,corner,and passage vortices are recognized and the impact on heat or mass transfer is *** complicated behavior of turbine passage secondary flow generation and establishment are impacted by the perspective of boundary layer attributes and inflow *** passage vortex concerning the latest big leading-edge vane is generated by the enlargement of the circulation developed at the first instance adjacent to the pressure side becomes powerful and mixes with other vortex systems during its migration towards the suction *** study conclusions reveal that substantial enhancements are attained on the endwall surface,for the entire spanwise blade extension on the pressure surface,and in the highly 3-D region close to the endwall on the suction *** forecasted suction surface thermal exchange depicts great conformity with the measurement values and precisely reproduces the enhanced thermal exchange owing to the development and lateral distribution of the secondary flows along the midspan of the blade passage *** impacts of the different secondary flow structures on the endwall thermal exchange are described in depth.

Application of biopolymer-modified geomaterials in waste disposal practices is gaining wide acceptance due to their superior tensile characteristics and improved crack *** is an important design parameter which determines the suitability of a material as a liner for construction of engineered *** this,the permeability characteristics of sand-bentonite mixtures amended with biopolymers was studied using a modified-falling head permeability apparatus under an accelerated gravity *** distilled water and synthetic leachate were utilized as permeant liquid to assess the role of biopolymer amendment on the permeation behavior of sand-bentonite *** results indicate that addition of biopolymers causes aggregation of the clay platelets,which in turn enhances the permeation behavior of the biopolymer-modified sand-bentonite *** mixtures meet the regulatory requirement of the liner.

Optical and Microstructural Characterisations of pulsed rf Magnetron sputtered Alumina Thin Film

Alumina thin films were deposited on fused quartz and ss304 substrate by pulsed rf magnetron sputtering with both direct and reactive methods. The films were characterised by energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, field emission scanning electron microscopy and atomic force microscopy to reveal the microstructure, surface morphology and topography of thin films. Transmittance and reflectance of alumina thin film were evaluated after deposition on the quartz substrate. Transmittance of the quartz remains almost un-altered when alumina was deposited by the reactive sputtering. A marginal decrease of ~4% in the transmittance of quartz was, however, observed after deposition of alumina by direct sputtering. Infrared emittance of the substrate also remains almost constant after deposition of thin alumina film. Further, as-deposited alumina on ss304 obtained by both direct and reactive sputtering process was amorphous in nature. However, after annealing crystalline peaks were observed.

Influences of Annealing Temperature and Doping Concentration on Microstructural and Optical properties of CeO_2:sm^(3+) nanocrystals

nanocrystals of CeO2 with different doping concentrations of sm3＋ were synthesized by a novel and cost- effective method. The crystal structure, morphology and particle size were systematically investigated by X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy and transmission electron microscopy. Effects of the annealing temperature and doping concentrations on the microstructural properties of the crystals were studied. X-ray diffraction analysis indicates that the cubic structure of the CeO2 is not affected by the doping of sm3＋ up to a doping concentration of 20%. Different structural parameters such as lattice constant, surface area, bulk density and porosity of the crystal were determined and discussed. Microscopic images of the CeO2：sm3＋ suggest that the thermal decomposition of oxalate precursor is a suitable synthesis pathway to produce uniform-sized microparticles and nanoparticles. The influences of annealing temperature and doping concentration of sm3＋ on the optical properties of the nanocrystals were also discussed. The photoluminescence excitation spectra reveal that the charge transfer band is redshifted with increasing annealing temperatures. Emission attains its maximum intensity for sm3＋ concentration of 1%, and higher concentrations lead to emission quenching.

Heavy metal contamination, physico-chemical and microbial evaluation of water samples collected from chromite mine environment of sukinda, India

Water samples from chromite mine quarry of sukinda and its adjacent areas were analyzed for their heavy metal contamination along with physico-chemical and microbial contents. The chromite mine water samples possessed high concentrations of heavy metals in the order of Cr〉Fe〉Zn〉ni〉Co〉Mn while ground water did not show any heavy metal contamination except Fe. physico-chemical parameters of mine water samples showed deviation from those of normal water. Mine water harboured low microbial populations of bacteria, fungi and actinomycetes in comparison with mine adjacent water samples. The correlation of data between metals with physico-chemical parameters showed both positive and negative responses while that of metal and microbial population exhibited negative correlation. Bacterial strains isolated from chromite mine water exhibited high tolerance towards chromium and other heavy metals as well as antibiotics which could be used as an indicator of heavy metal pollution.
