Liquefaction proneness of stratified sand-silt layers based on cyclic triaxial tests

Most studies on liquefaction have addressed homogeneous soil strata using sand or sand with fine content without considering soil *** this study,cyclic triaxial tests were conducted on the stratified sand specimens embedded with the silt layers to investigate the liquefaction failures and void-redistribution at confining stress of 100 kPa under stress-controlled *** loosening of underlying sand mass and hindrance to pore-water flow caused localized bulging at the sand-silt *** is observed that at a silt thickness of 0.2H(H is the height of the specimen),nearly 187 load cycles were required to attain liquefaction,which was the highest among all the silt thicknesses with a single silt ***,0.2H is assumed as the optimum silt thickness(t_(opt)).The silt was placed at the top,middle and bottom of the specimen to understand the effect of silt layer *** to the increase in depth of the silt layer from the top position(capped soil state)to the bottom,the cycles to reach liquefaction(N_(cyc,L))increased 2.18 ***,when the number of silt layers increased from single to triple,there was an increase of about 880%in N_(cyc,L).The micro-characterization analysis of the soil specimens indicated silty materials transported in upper sections of the specimen due to the dissipated pore *** main parameters,including thickness(t),location(z),cyclic stress ratio(CSR),number of silt layers(n)and modified relative density(D_(r,m)),performed significantly in governing the lique-faction *** this,a multilinear regression model is developed based on critical parameters for prediction of N_(cyc,L).Furthermore,the developed constitutive model has been validated using the data from the present study and earlier findings.

Effects of cartilaginous rings on airflow and particle transport through simplified and realistic models of human upper respiratory tracts

In the present study, computational fluid dynamics （CFD） is used to investigate inspiratory and expiratory airflow characteristics in the human upper respiratory tract for the purpose of identifying the probable locations of particle deposition and the wall injury. Computed tomography （CT） scan data was used to reconstruct a three dimensional respiratory tract from trachea to first generation bronchi. To compare, a simplified model of respiratory tract based on Weibel was also used in the study. The steady state results are obtained for an airflow rate of 45 L/min, corresponding to the heavy breathing condition. The velocity distribution, wall shear stress, static pressure and particle deposition are compared for inspiratory flows in simplified and realistic models and expiratory flows in realistic model only. The results show that the location of cartilaginous rings is susceptible to wall injury and local particle deposition.

Nay or jain Nyay 1： Existence Inferred from Affirmed Assertions

The jain logic （Nay） addresses concerns elicited by sense experience of observable and measurable reality. Reality is what it is, and it exists independent of the observer. The last jain Tirthankar Mahaveer suggested that organisms interact with such realities for survival needs and become concerned about the consequences. He suggested a code of conduct for reality-based behaviors to address concerns. Perceptions and impressions provide measures （praman） of information in sense experience, and with other evidence guide choices and decisions to act and bear consequences. Ethical behaviors rooted in reality have desirable consequences, and inconsistent and contradictory behaviors are undesirable consequences. Omniscience （God, Brahm） is discarded as a self-referential ad hoc construct inconsistent and contradictory to real world behaviors. This article is survey of assumptions and models to represent, interpret, and validate knowledge that begins with logical deduction for inference （anuman） based on evidence from sense experience （jain 2011）. Secular and atheistic thrust of thought and practice encourages reasoning and open-ended search with affirmed assertions and independent evidence. Individual identity （atm） emerges with consistent behaviors to overcome fallibility and unreliability by minimizing doubt （Syad-Saptbhangi Nay）. The first Tirthankar Rishabh Nath （ca. 2700 BC） suggested that the content （sat） of real and abstract objects and concerns during a change is conserved as the net balance of the inputs and outputs （Tatia 1994）. Identity and content of assertions and evidence is also conserved during logical manipulations for reasoning. Each assertion and its negation are to be affirmed with independent evidence, and lack of evidence for presence is not necessarily the evidence for either non-absence or non-existence.

Portal vein thrombosis: Etiology and clinical outcome of cirrhosis and malignancy-related non-cirrhotic, non-tumoral extrahepatic portal venous obstruction

The etiology and pathogenesis of portal vein thrombosis are unclear. Portal venous thrombosis presentation differs in cirrhotic and tumor-related versus non-cirrhotic and non-tumoral extrahepatic portal venous obstruction (EHPVO). Non-cirrhotic and non-tumoral EHPVO patients are young and present with well tolerated bleeding. Cirrhosis and tumor-related portal vein thrombosis patients are older and have a grim prognosis. Among the 118 patients with portal vein thrombosis, 15.3% had cirrhosis, 42.4% had liver malignancy (primary or metastatic), 6% had pancreatitis (acute or chronic), 5% had hypercoagulable state and 31.3% had idiopathy, 12% had hypercoagulable state in the EHPVO group.

A systematic review on the imaging findings in auditory neuropathy spectrum disorder

An incremental learning approach for the text categorization using hybrid optimization

Purpose–Document retrieval has become a hot research topic over the past few years,and has been paid more attention in browsing and synthesizing information from different *** purpose of this paper is to develop an effective document retrieval method,which focuses on reducing the time needed for the navigator to evoke the whole document based on contents,themes and concepts of ***/methodology/approach–This paper introduces an incremental learning approach for text categorization using Monarch Butterfly optimization–FireFly optimization based Neural Network(MB–FF based NN).Initially,the feature extraction is carried out on the pre-processed data using Term Frequency–Inverse Document Frequency(TF–IDF)and holoentropy to find the keywords of the ***,cluster-based indexing is performed using MB–FF algorithm,and finally,by matching process with the modified Bhattacharya distance measure,the document retrieval is *** MB–FF based NN,the weights in the NN are chosen using MB–FF ***–The effectiveness of the proposed MB–FF based NN is proven with an improved precision value of 0.8769,recall value of 0.7957,F-measure of 0.8143 and accuracy of 0.7815,***/value–The experimental results show that the proposed MB–FF based NN is useful to companies,which have a large workforce across the country.

Medical Data Clustering and Classification Using TLBO and Machine Learning Algorithms

This study aims to empirically analyze teaching-learning-based optimization(TLBO)and machine learning algorithms using k-means and fuzzy c-means(FCM)algorithms for their individual performance evaluation in terms of clustering and *** the first phase,the clustering(k-means and FCM)algorithms were employed independently and the clustering accuracy was evaluated using different *** the second phase,the non-clustered data obtained from the first phase were preprocessed with *** was performed using k-means(TLBO-KM)and FCM(TLBO-FCM)(TLBO-KM/FCM)*** objective function was determined by considering both minimization and maximization ***-clustered data obtained from the first phase were further utilized and fed as input for threshold *** benchmark datasets were considered from theUniversity of California,Irvine(UCI)Machine Learning Repository for comparative study and *** are breast cancer Wisconsin(BCW),Pima Indians Diabetes,Heart-Statlog,Hepatitis,and Cleveland Heart Disease *** combined average accuracy obtained collectively is approximately 99.4%in case of TLBO-KM and 98.6%in case of *** approach is also capable of finding the dominating *** findings indicate that TLBO-KM/FCM,considering different computational measures,perform well on the non-clustered data where k-means and FCM,if employed independently,fail to provide significant *** different feature sets,the TLBO-KM/FCM and SVM(GS)clearly outperformed all other classifiers in terms of sensitivity,specificity and ***/FCM attained the highest average sensitivity(98.7%),highest average specificity(98.4%)and highest average accuracy(99.4%)for 10-fold cross validation with different test data.
