This paper presents our study of the nonlinear stability of a new anisotropic continuum traffic flow model in which the dimensionless parameter or anisotropic factor controls the non-isotropic character and diffusive influence. In order to establish traff^c flow stability criterion or to know the critical parameters that lead, on one hand, to a stable response to perturbations or disturbances or, on the other hand, to an unstable response and therefore to a possible congestion, a nonlinear stability criterion is derived by using a wavefront expansion technique. The stability criterion is illustrated by numerical results using the finite difference method for two different values of anisotropic parameter. It is also been observed that the newly derived stability results are consistent with previously reported results obtained using approximate linearisation methods. Moreover, the stability criterion derived in this paper can provide more refined information from the perspective of the capability to reproduce nonlinear traffic flow behaviors observed in real traffic than previously established methodologies.

In the defense-in-depth concept employed for the safety of nuclear installations,maintaining integrity of containment as the last barrier is of high importance to limit the release of radioactivity to the environment in case of a severe *** active and passive safety systems implemented in containments of light water reactors(LWRs)are designed to limit the consequences of such *** the performance and reliability of such systems under accident conditions is critical to the safety of nuclear *** the aftermath of the Fukushima accident,there has been focus on re-examining the existing safety systems to demonstrate their capabilities for a broader range of boundary conditions comprising both the early as well as the late phases of an *** addition to the performance testing of safety systems,their interaction with containment atmosphere needs detailed investigations to evaluate the effects of operation of safety systems on H2 risk and fission product(FP)behavior in containment,which may ultimately have an impact on the source term to the *** this context,an extensive containment safety related experimental research has been conducted in a thermalhydraulics,hydrogen,aerosols,and iodine test facility(THAI,60 m3,single vessel)/(THAI+,80 m3,two interconnected vessels).Related to the subject of this paper,experimental investigations covered performance testing of various safety and mitigation systems,i.e.,containment spray,passive autocatalytic recombiner(PAR),pressure suppression pool(water pools),and effects of their operation on H2 risk and in-containment FP *** experimental results have provided a better phenomenological understanding and database for validation and further improvement of a safety analysis tool based on computation fluid dynamic(CFD)and lumped parameter(LP)modeling *** paper summarizes the main insights obtained from the aforesaid THAI experimental research covering safety systems

Lentil(Lens culinaris Medik) is one of the most important food legumes in the world. The use in lentil of molecular marker-assisted breeding is limited, owing to the low availability of polymorphic markers. In the present study, we developed a set of polymorphic intron-spanning markers(ISMs) using a cross-species mapping approach. In this approach, putative unique transcripts(PUTs) of L. culinaris were mapped onto the Medicago truncatula genome, exploiting its closeness with the lentil genome. Spliced alignment of the PUTs resulted in a total of 25,717 alignments, allowing the development of 1703 ISMs. From these, a subset of 105 ISMs were synthesized and validated with a 51% amplification success rate in 32 lentil genotypes. Of these ISMs, 40(74%) were polymorphic and generated 2–11 alleles per locus in a genetically diverse panel of 32 lentil genotypes including wild *** set of polymorphic ISMs along with their functional annotation data will be useful in lentil breeding.

It is imperative to understand the molecular basis of various steps involved during fertilization. In the manuscript by Bianchi et al.1 a novel protein, Juno on egg membrane （oolemma） has been characterized that binds to sperm specific protein, Izumo-1. Monoclonal antibodies against Juno inhibited in vitro fertilization. Juno knock-out female mice failed to deliver litters on mating. It is rapidly shed from oolemma after fertilization, suggesting its role in preventing polyspermy. Taken together these studies will help in our understanding of sperm-egg recognition mechanisms and also facilitate development of new fertility treatment regimens and novel contraceptives.

Understanding the influence of petrographic parameters on strength of differently sized shale specimens using XRD and SEM

Ground failure is a major contributor to fatalities in underground mines in the *** coal mines in the Northern Appalachian have weak roof rock composed of shale,which is prone to failure under high horizontal *** the relationship among strength,specimen size and rock petrographic parameters is essential for developing an effective ground control *** effect studies have found that rock strength varies with specimen *** paper attempts to understand this strength variation using three specimen sizes(254-mm,508-mm,and 762-mm).The specimen strength was measured and the major petrographic parameters affecting the strength,namely grain size,grain shape,quartz content,clay content,*** analyzed using X-ray diffraction(XRD)and scanning electron microscopy(SEM).The petrographic parameters were then correlated with the strength of the three differently sized *** results showed that 508-mm specimen had the lowest *** content of the 508-mm specimen was lower than that of 254-mm and 762-mm *** content and average grain size of the 508-mm specimen were higher than those of 254-mm and 762-mm *** results clearly show that grain size,quartz content and clay content contribute to strength variation observed in differently sized shale specimens.

Use of alcohol is a worldwide habit regardless of socio- economic background. Heavy alcohol consumption is a potential risk factor for induction of pancreatitis. The current review cites the updated literature on the alcohol metabolism, its effects on gastrointestinal and pancreatic function and in causing pancreatic injury, genetic predisposition of alcohol induced pancreatitis. Reports describing prospective mechanisms of action of alcohol activating the signal transduction pathways, induction of oxidative stress parameters through the development of animal models are being presented.

Super alloys are intensively used in various industries, especially in the aerospace industry, because of their special characteristics. A number of holes are sometimes required to be drilled into super alloys for aircraft at their final stage assembly. In the present study, a hybrid ultrasonic machining method, called rotary ultrasonic machining （RUM）, was successfully used in super alloy drilling. The empirical modeling of the process parameters of RUM was performed for the super alloy （Inconel 718） using an experimental design approach, called response surface methodology （RSM）. Parameters, namely tool rotation, feed rate, ultrasonic power, and abrasive grit size, were selected as input variables. The others were kept constant. The performance was measured in terms of the machining rate and the surface roughness. The developed models were found to be reliable representatives of the experimental results with prediction errors less than 4-5%. Moreover, the feed rate for the quality and productivity aspect was found to be the most critical factor. The optimized values of the machining rate and the surface roughness achieved through a multi-response optimization were 0.9 825 mm3/s and 0.951 ***, respectively.

Objective Calcium Glucarate (Cag), Ca salt of D-glucaric acid is a naturally occurring non-toxic compound present in fruits, vegetables and seeds of some plants, and suppress tumor growth in different models. Due to lack of knowledge about its mode of action its uses are limited in cancer chemotherapy thus the objective of the study was to study the mechanism of action of Cag on mouse skin tumorigenesis. Methods We have estimated effect of Cag on DMBA induced mouse skin tumor development following complete carcinogenesis protocol. We measured, epidermal transglutaminase activity (TG), a marker of cell differentiation after DMBA and/or Cag treatment and [3H] thymidine incorporation into DNA as a marker for cell proliferation. Results Topical application of Cag suppressed the DMBA induced mouse skin tumor development.
