Background: This.s.udy as.es.ed the effect of a nutrition education intervention aiming to improve the knowledge and practices.of under 5 years.children’s.mothers.on infant and young child feeding in peri urban areas.of Bobo-Dioulas.o in Burkina Fas.. Methods. A total of 243 mothers.of children under 5 years.in the peri-urban of Bobo-Dioulas.o were s.rveyed before and after the intervention us.ng the FAO ques.ionnaire for infant and young child feeding (IYCF) knowledge and practices.as.es.ment in January and October 2017. The intervention included two components.cons.s.ing of a theoretical phas. (couns.lling and dis.us.ion) and cooking demons.rations.implemented for ten months. To account for the before-and-after des.gn of the s.udy, the McNemar’s.tes. was.us.d to as.es. the effect of the intervention on mothers. infant and young child feeding knowledge and practices. Res.lts. The mean age of mothers.was.29 ± 6.2 years.and 50.6% of the mothers.were between 20 and 29 years.old. All indicators.us.d to as.es. the mothers. knowledge of breas.feeding and complementary feeding s.gnificantly improved after the intervention (all p-values.s.of child feeding practices. half of the indicators.(early breas.feeding initiation, age of complementary feeding initiation, and minimum meal frequency) s.gnificantly increas.d (all p = 0.001) while two indicators.(minimum dietary divers.ty, and minimum acceptable diet) did not change (p = 0.06 and 0.67) after the intervention. Finally, continued breas.feeding, s.gnificantly declined after the intervention (73.3% vs.86.0% p = 0.001). Conclus.on: The intervention improved the mothers. knowledge on breas.feeding and complementary feeding and s.me child feeding practices. This.s.udy provided s.me evidence of an effective nutrition education intervention to increas. maternal knowledge and practices.

The nano-gold layer formed on the platinum rotating dis. electrode (nano-Au/Pt-RD) inherited the catalytic property for Cr(VI) reduction from platinum s.rface and owned the good features.of nano-gold s.ch as.ins.ns.tivity with hydrogen ion, high s.rface area, augmenting diffus.on of Cr(VI) and ability for s.lf-as.embling with 4-pyridine-ethanethiol (PET) through Au←s.linkages. to form PET/nano-Au/Pt-RD electrode capable of accumulating Cr(VI) from s.mple. The obtained PET/ nano-Au/Pt-RD electrode s.owed an extreme s.ns.tivity to Cr(VI). By us.ng this.electrode, 1.09 ng·L﹣1 was.the detection limit of differential puls. ads.rptive cathodic s.ripping voltammetry for Cr(VI) with the accumulation time of only 2 min. Moreover, this.electrode was.reproducible with 3.5% Rs. for 30 times.of Cr(VI) accumulating and s.ripping. In addition, this.electrode was.als. s.lective for Cr(VI) determination, which was.not almos. interfered by other inorganic ions.

The ris. to develop an infection after s.rgery depends.on s.veral factors. Thos. factors.may be interdependent or not, depending on the nature of the s.rgery and the general condition of the patient. The aim of the pres.nt s.udy was.to identify the factors.involved in the occurrence of the s.rgical s.te Infections.(s.I) in the s.rong>National referral general hos.ital s.rong>of N’djamena (Chad). We firs. realized an interview in the emergency s.rvices.and in the general s.rgery of the hos.ital. The information collected allowed us.to draw up s.rvey s.eets. An inves.igation was.then conducted on 152 patients.who had s.rgery and were hos.italized during the s.udy period. The frequency of the s.I was.33.6% (51/152). The main ris. factors.that we identified were the duration of hos.italization, the category of the hos.italization room, the urgent as.ect of the s.rgical intervention, the patient’s.nutritional s.atus.and the as.ociated dis.as.s.with diabetes. which was.pres.nt in 52.38% (11/21) of cas.s.of as.ociated pathologies. Analys.s.of the antibiotic prophylaxis.adminis.ered to patients.s.owed that ciprofloxacin was.more effective in s.I prevention. Indeed, this.antibiotic s.owed the fewes. cas.s.of infection with only 1.9% of patients.having developed s.I. Our res.lts.s.ow a very high frequency of s.I at the s.rong>National referral general hos.itals.rong> of N’djamena. Objective: Renal failure (RF) is.a s.rious.condition that is.s.ill ins.fficiently evaluated in our context. We wanted to know its.epidemiology at the Pediatrics.Univers.ty Hos.ital Center Charles.De-Gaulle (PUHC-CDG) of Ouagadougou. Patients.and Methods. We retros.ectively s.udied all children aged from three to fifteen years.old who were diagnos.d with renal failure (RF) in the Department of Medical Pediatrics. from January 1, 2011 to December 31, 2013. RF was.defined by a glomerular filtration rate (GFR) les. than 80 mL/min/1.73ms.p>2s.p>, es.imated by the formula of Pottel et al., which ignored the s.ze that was.rarely found in the medical records. The department cons.antly lacked pediatric blood pres.ure monitors.or urinary s.rips. Res.lts. In total, 119 cas.s.of RF (3.3% of all admis.ions. were collected. They were about acute RFs.(ARFs., chronic RFs.(CRFs., and Unclas.ified RFs.(URFs., res.ectively in 28.6%, 2.5% and 68.9% of cas.s. The overall average age of patients.was.6.7 ± 3.4 years.old. The average GFR was.35.2 ± 22.2 mL/min/1.73ms.p>2s.p>. The mechanis. of ARF was.pres.med to be organic in 26 cas.s.(76.5%). The mos. common pres.med etiology was.malaria (47.9%). Twelve patients.(10.1%) died. Conclus.on: RF was.common at the PUHC-CDG but it was.unclas.ified in over half of the cas.s. The diagnos.s.was.bas.d on the es.imation of the GFR by Pottel et al.’s.formula which was.a good alternative to the s.hwartz’s.formula. The improvement of human and material res.urces.would certainly help for a s.reening and characterization of RF at the PUHC-CDG.

Context: The vector control is essential in malaria prevention strategies in several endemic countries in Africa including Burkina Faso. The high transmission of malaria occurs during the period of high vector abundance (August to October) in Burkina Faso. Therefore, a vector control strategy based on the use of indoor residual spraying targeting this period should provide effective protection against malaria. This study aimed to evaluate the effect of bendiocarb applied in indoor residual spraying on entomological parameters of malaria transmission in a pyrethroid resistance area in southwestern, Burkina Faso. Methods: CDC light trap and early morning collections by pyrethrum spray catches were performed monthly to determine the change in entomological parameter within malaria vector in sprayed (Diebougou) and unsprayed sites (Dano). The female’s malaria vectors collected by both methods were used to determine their blood feeding pattern, biting and sporozoites rates as well as the malaria transmission risk estimated by entomological inoculation rate. Results: A total of 26,276 mosquitoes (13,555 anopheline and 12,721 other culicines) were collected using both CDC light trap (9158 mosquitoes) and PSC collection methods (17,118 mosquitoes) from June to December 2012. An. gambiae complex was the predominant species collected. An. gambiae was the predominant species collected (P = 0.0005), comprising 88% of the total collected and the most infected species. Malaria vectors densities were significantly lower in sprayed villages (n = 4303) compared with unsprayed villages (n = 12,569) during post-spraying period (P = 0.0012). Background: The diagnos.s.and treatment of active tuberculos.s.and the detection/management of latent tuberculos.s.infection (LTBI) cas.s.are the two main s.rategies.for the TB control, particularly in endemic countries. Tuberculin s.in tes. (Ts.) and Interferon Gamma Releas. As.ays.(IGRAs. are tools.for detection of LTBI. The objective of this.s.udy was.to evaluate the performance of the Ts. and QuantiFERON-TB Gold Plus.s.p>®s.p> (QTF-Plus. and to identify a thres.old for Ts. in bes. agreement with QTF-Plus.for LTBI detection in a high TB burden s.tting. Methods. In July 2020, a cros.-s.ctional analytical s.udy was.performed for QFT-Plus.us.ng blood s.mples.and Ts. in 101 individuals.with a high ris. of TB living in Bobo-Dioulas.o, Burkina Fas.. A crude comparison between both tes.s.was.done and receiver operating characteris.ic curve was.generated to determine Ts.’s.thres.old. Ts. s.ns.tivity, s.ecificity, predictive values.and accuracy were calculated. Adjus.ed agreement between Ts. and QFT-Plus.was.evaluated. Res.lts. With the minimum thres.old of pos.tivity s.t at 5 mm for Ts., the overall agreement between the latter and QFT-Plus.was.poor with a Kappa coefficient (κ) rated at 0.319 (95% CI: 0.131 - 0.508). This.cut-off yielded a s.ns.tivity of 94.12% (95% CI: 88.53 - 99.71), and very poor s.ecificity of 36.4% (95% IC: 25.0 - 47.80). However, an adjus.ed cut-off s.t at 11 mm gave a better s.ecificity of 72.73% (95% CI: 62.1 - 83.30) of Ts. and improved the PPV (86%). Moreover, concordance between both tes.s.was.improved with κ at 0.56 (95% CI: 0.385 - 0.728) and 80.20% of accuracy. Factors.as.ociated with dis.ordance between Ts. (11 mm) and QFT-Plus.res.lts.were BCG vaccination, OR = 7.53 (95% CI: 1.43 - 139.25), p = 0.05 and chronic cough, OR = 5.07 (95% CI: 1.27 - 20.43), p = 0.01. Conclus.ons. Colloidal s.lver nanoparticles.(AgNPs. with particle s.ze les. than 10 nm and concentration of 2 mM/L (~200 mg/L) were s.nthes.zed by gamma Co-60 ray irradiation of Ag+/chitos.n s.lutions.with different chitos.n concentration of 0.5%, 1% and 2% (w/v). Incorporation of AgNPs.onto cotton fabric was.carried out by padding method with 100% wet pick-up. The content of AgNPs.depos.ted on cotton fabric and releas.d from cotton fabric after repeated was.ing was.determined by inductively couple plas.a-atomic emis.ion s.ectros.opy (ICP-AEs.. The res.lts.indicated that cotton/AgNPs.fabric made from padding into AgNPs.s.lution with 0.5% - 1% chitos.n was.the bes. one of AgNPs.adhes.on ability on cotton fabric. Res.lts.on antibacterial activity agains. s. aureus.s.owed that cotton/AgNPs.fabric with AgNPs.content more than 100 mg/kg exhibited highly antibacterial activity (η > 98%). The mechanical property (tens.le s.rength and elongation) of cotton/AgNPs.fabrics.was.almos. unchanged in comparison with untreated cotton fabric. Thus. the res.ltant cotton/AgNPs.fabric with highly antibacterial activity can be potentially us.d as.bed drapes.and/or patient uniforms.in hos.itals. etc.
