Brewing and biochemical characterization of Camellia japonica petal wine with comprehensive discussion on metabolomics

A novel wine has been developed from Camellia japonica’s petal by fermenting the decoction with Saccharomyces cerevisiae or brewer’s yeast. pH, brix, specific gravity and alcohol percentage were tested to study the physicochemical properties of the wine. Qualitative tests indicated presence of phenols such as flavonoids, coumarins;protein;glyco-sides;glycerin;terpenoids;steroids;and fatty acids in the wine. Total phenol content was found high in the decoction and in its fermented form as well. In vitro biological activities such as antioxidant activity, antidiabetic activity and lipid peroxidation inhibition power were assessed in samples. Furthermore, GC-MS analysis helped to detect volatiles present in the unfermented decoction and understand the effect of fermentation on its changing metabolome while column chromatography assisted the separation of solvent-based fractions. Notable outcomes from this study were detection of bioactive compound quinic acid in the decoction and a proposed pathway of its metabolic breakdown after fermentation. Results of this research revealed biochemical and physicochemical acceptability of this wine prepared from an underutilized flower.

This research work was designed to attempt and propose the first report on production and biochemical characterization of fermented tea flower petal decoction or simply tea petal *** tea petal decoction and brewer’s yeast or Saccharomyces cerevisiae were co-cultured for *** activity and chromatographic separation of potential candidates were *** investigations for qualitative characters on this fermented broth revealed the presence of steroids,tannin,flavonoids,phenol,cardiac glycosides,coumarin,caffeine *** manufactured fermented broth showed high free radical scavenging activity after 2 months of *** DPPH scavenging activities were also observed in solvent fractions of acetone,ethanol and *** antioxidant activity,alcohol percentage and other qualities were seen to be gradually increased during *** chromatography-mass spectrometry analysis revealed the presence of 44 compounds including many potential antioxidant molecules and other bioactive ***,presence of alcohol with medicinally active compounds and antioxidant activity will make it as acceptable as a good wine and tea flower as economically functional.

Aluminium-alumina compacts with varying wt% of alumina were compacted in the pressure range of 115 - 290 MPa. Compacts prepared at 290 MPa pressure, were sintered in an argon atmosphere at 573, 673, 773 and 873 K for 1 hour. The green density, % porosity, % spring back and hardness of the green compacts were determined. Scanning Electron Microscopy was carried out to observe the morphology of pores and alumina particles in green and sintered compacts. The present study indicates that, densification of the compact increases with increasing compacting pressure and decreases with increasing alumina content. Maximum density achieved is 93% for pure aluminium compacts and decreases to 85% for Al-20 wt% alumina compacts. Grain growth of aluminium particles is noticed in the compacts after sintering at 773 and 873 K. Dispersion of fine alumina particle in the aluminium matrix occurs predominantly in the compact when sintered at 773 K which results in increase in hardness value.

Pancreatic injuries can result in significant morbidity and mortality if missed or unnoticed and also pose a great challenge in terms of diagnosis and treatment. We present a case of an 11 year old boy presenting with history of blunt trauma abdomen following handle bar injury. He had signs of abdominal distension and CECT of the abdomen showed transection of the pancreas in the region of junction between the body and tail. On exploratory laparotomy there was rupture at junction of body and tail of pancreas with intact pancreatic duct and a spleen preserving distal pancreatectomy was performed. In the presence of an intact pancreatic duct conservative management should be offered however this patient underwent spleen preserving distal pancreatectomy because of pancreatitis and necrosis ensuing in the pancreatic remnant margin. Hence, complete transection does not necessarily mean loss of ductal integrity and decision to preserve or remove the distal pancreas should not be based merely on ductal integrity but probably other factors also i.e. pancreatitis and necrosis.

The present paper reports the unusual enhancement of endurance life of ball bearings subjected to carbonitriding treatment. The microstructure was characterized by scanning electron microscopy and correlated with hardness and X-ray diffraction analysis. Endurance tests at 90% reliability revealed that the carbonitrided bearings exhibit nearly ten times more life than the non-carbonitrided bearings. This is attributed to synergic combination of retained austenitic, fine martensitic microstructure and ultrafine carbide precipitates obtained by carbonitriding treatment.

Comparative Study of Sublingual and Vaginal Misoprostol in Second Trimester Induced Abortion

Background: To identify an effective misoprostol-only regime for the termination of second trimester pregnancy. Objectives: To compare the efficacy, safety and acceptability of sublingual and vaginal misoprostol for second trimester pregnancy termination. Methods: In a prospective randomized comparative study, over 138 pregnant women at 13 - 20 weeks (91 - 140 days) of gestation requiring medical abortion were randomly assigned to the sublingual or vaginal route for misoprostol administration with dose schedule of 400 mcg every 3 hours up to 5 doses within 24 hours. The course of misoprostol was repeated if the woman did not abort within 24 hours. Primary outcome was the efficacy of the treatment to terminate pregnancy completely at 24 and 48 hours. Secondary outcomes measured were induction-abortion interval, side effects, failure rate, and women’s perception to these treatments. Results: At 24 h, the complete abortion rate was?87.88% in the vaginal administration group and 79.41% in sublingual group (difference 8.5%, 95%?CI: 3.8 to 13.2). No significant difference in the complete abortion rates was observed at 48 h(90.91% versus 88.24% difference: 2.7%, 95% CI: ?0.04 to 5.4) when vaginal and sublingual?groups were compared. Mean induction-abortion interval in sublingual and vaginal groups was 12.28 h (95% CI of mean 11.019 - 13.541 h) and 13.11 h (95% CI of mean 12.0301 - 14.1899 h) respectively;p = 0.485. The rates of side effects were similar in both groups except for fever, which was more common in vaginal group. Significantly more women in the sublingual group preferred the route as compared to vaginal administration (RR 1.618. 95% CI: 1.277 - 2.050;p < 0.0001). Conclusion: Both sublingual and vaginal routes of misoprostol are equally effective in medical termination of pregnancy in second trimester but sublingual route was preferred by the women.

Novel high speed energy efficient square root architecture has been reported in this paper. In this architecture, we have blended ancient Indian Vedic mathematics and Bakhshali mathematics to achieve a significant amount of accuracy in performing the square root operation. Basically, Vedic Duplex method and iterative division method reported in Bakhshali Manuscript have been utilized for that computation. The proposed technique has been compared with the well known Newton-Raphson’s (N-R) technique for square root computation. The algorithm has been implemented and tested using Modelsim simulator, and performance parameters such as the number of lookup tables, propagation delay and power consumption have been estimated using Xilinx ISE simulator. The functionality of the circuitry has been checked using Xilinx Virtex-5 FPGA board.

依据印度泰米尔纳德邦蚕茧市场蚕茧检测中心2009—2013年对生丝各项品质指标的测试数据,比较分析采用不同缫丝机缫制生丝对生丝品质的影响。采用立缫机缫制生丝的品质优于采用传统缫丝机缫制生丝的品质,用传统缫丝机缫制的生丝,其切断、纤度偏差和纤度最大偏差均显著大于用立缫机缫制的生丝。统计分析结果还显示,用2种缫丝机缫制生丝的品质在过去的5年中均有明显提高,如2013年缫制生丝的切断和纤度最大偏差2项指标与2009年缫制的生丝相比均显著改善,这得益于缫丝工的熟练操作技能。
