The effects of turbulent intensity and vortex scale of simulated natural wind on performance of a horizontal axis wind turbine(HAWT) are mainly investigated in this paper. In particular, the unsteadiness and turbulence of wind in Japan are stronger than ones in Europe and North America in general. Hence, Japanese engineers should take account of the velocity unsteadiness of natural wind at installed open-air location to design a higher performance wind turbine. Using the originally designed five wind turbines on the basis of NACA and MEL blades, the dependencies of the wind frequency and vortex scale of the simulated natural wind are presented. As the results, the power coefficient of the newly designed MEL3-type rotor in the simulated natural wind is 130% larger than one in steady wind.

Electric potential near a wall for plasma with the surface produced negative ions with magnetic field increasing toward a wall is investigated analytically. The potential profile is derived analytically by using a plasma-sheath equation, where negative ions produced on the plasma grid （PG） surface are considered in addition to positive ions and electrons. The potential profile depends on the amount and the temperature of the surface produced negative ions and the profile of the magnetic field. The negative potential peak is formed in the sheath region near the PG surface for the case of strong surface production of negative ions or low temperature negative ions. As the increase rate of the magnetic field near the wall becomes large, the negative potential peak becomes small.

Relatively little is known about the oncologic safety of laparoscopic surgery for advanced rectal ***, large randomized clinical trials showed that laparoscopic surgery was not inferior to open surgery, as evidenced by survival and local control rates. However, patients with T4 tumors were excluded from these trials. Technological advances in the instrumentation and techniques used by laparoscopic surgery have increased the use of laparoscopic surgery for advanced rectal cancer. High-definition, illuminated, and magnified images obtained by laparoscopy may enable more precise laparoscopic surgery than open techniques, even during extended surgery for T4 or locally recurrent rectal cancer. To date, the quality of evidence regarding the usefulness of laparoscopy for extended surgery beyond total mesorectal excision has been low because most studies have been uncontrolled series, with small sample sizes, and long-term data are lacking. Nevertheless, laparoscopic extended surgery for rectal cancer, when performed by specialized laparoscopic colorectal surgeons, has been reported safe in selected patients, with significant advantages, including a clear visual field and less blood loss. This review summarizes current knowledge on laparoscopic extended surgery beyond total mesorectal excision for primary or locally recurrent rectal cancer.

Ioxynil, a phenolic herbicide, is known to exert thyroid hormone （TH） disrupting activity by interfering with TH-binding to plasma proteins and a step of the cellular TH-signaling pathway in restricted animal species. However, comparative studies are still lacking on the TH disruption. We investigated the interaction of [125I] ioxynil with serum proteins from rainbow trout, bullfrog, chicken, pig, rat, and mouse, using native polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis. Candidate ioxynil-binding proteins, which included lipoproteins, albumin and transthyretin （TTR）, differed among the vertebrates tested. Rainbow trout and bullfrog tadpole serum had the lowest binding activity for ioxynil, whereas the eutherian serum had the highest binding activity. The cellular uptake of, and response to, ioxynil were suppressed by rat serum greater than by tadpole serum. The cellular uptake of [125I]ioxynil competed strongly with phenols with a single ring, but not with THs. Our results suggested that ioxynil interferes with TH homeostasis in plasma and with a step of cellular TH-signaling pathway other than TH-uptake system, in a species-specific manner.

Effect of Self-adhesive Resin Cement and Tribochemical Treatment on Bond Strength to Zirconia

Aim To evaluate the interactive effects of different self- adhesive resin cements and tribochemical treatment on bond strength to zirconia. Methodology The following self-adhesive resin cements for bonding two zirconia blocks were evaluated： Maxcem （MA）, Smartcem （SM）, Rely X Unicem Aplicap （UN）, Breeze （BR）, Biscem （BI）, Set （SE）, and Clearfil SA luting （CL）. The specimens were grouped according to conditioning as follows： Group 1, polishing with 600 grit polishing paper; Group 2, silica coating with 110 μm Al2O3 particles which modified with silica; and, Group 3, tribochemical treatment - silica coating ＋ silanization. Specimens were stored in distilled water at 37℃ for 24 hours before testing shear bond strength. Results Silica coating and tribochemical treatment significantly increased the bond strength of the MA, UN, BR, B1, SE and CL to zirconia compared to #600 polishing. For both #600 polished and silica coating treatments, MDP- containing self-adhesive resin cement CL had the highest bond strengths to zirconia. Conclusion Applying silica coating and tribochemical treatment improved the bond strength of self-adhesive resin cement to zirconia, especially for CL.

It is generally acknowledged that Lu Xun＇s collection of prose poems, Wild Grass （Yecao）, is his epitomizing work. Among the numerous research on this work, it is rare to find studies that explicitly expound Zhou Zuoren＇s relationship with Lu Xun and his effect upon the latter＇s writing. This is probably because scholars seldom associate poetry with Zhou Zuoren, a writer famous for his prose and essays. In addition, the relationship between the two brothers broke up completely in 1923. Therefore, Zhou Zuoren does not appear to have played a significant role in the composition of Wild Grass in 1924. This essay attempts to explore the relationship between the two brothers from a new perspective, revolving the analysis around the ＂Shadow＇s Leave-Taking＂（Ying de gaobie） the most difficult and important work in Lu Xun＇s collection of prose poems, Wild Grass.

During nerve reconstruction,nerves of different thicknesses are often sutured together using end-to-side neurorrhaphy and end-to-end neurorrhaphy *** this study,the effect of the type of neurorrhaphy on the number and diameter of regenerated axon fibers was studied in a rat facial nerve repair *** inflow-type end-to-side and end-to-end neurorrhaphy model with nerve stumps of different thicknesses（2：1 diameter ratio） was created in the facial nerve of 14 adult male Sprague-Dawley *** 6 and 12 weeks,nerve regeneration was evaluated in the rats using the following outcomes：total number of myelinated axons,average minor axis diameter of the myelinated axons in the central and peripheral sections,and axon regeneration ***-to-end neurorrhaphy resulted in a significantly greater number of regenerated myelinated axons and rate of regeneration after 6 weeks than end-to-side neurorrhaphy;however,no such differences were observed at 12 *** the regenerated axons were thicker at 12 weeks than at 6 weeks,no significant differences in axon fiber thickness were detected between end-to-end and end-toside ***,end-to-end neurorrhaphy resulted in greater numbers of regenerated axons and increased axon regeneration rate during the early postoperative *** rapid reinnervation is one of the most important factors influencing the restoration of target muscle function,we conclude that end-to-end neurorrhaphy is desirable when suturing thick nerves to thin nerves.

Biogas purification via water scrubbing produces effluent containing dissolved CH4, H2S,and CO2, which should be removed to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and increase its potential for water regeneration. In this study, a reactor built with air supplies at the top and bottom was utilized for the treatment of biogas purification effluent through biological oxidation and physical stripping processes. Up to 98% of CH4 was removed through biological treatment at a hydraulic retention time of 2 hr and an upper airflow rate of 2.02 L/day. Additionally, a minimum CH4 concentration of 0.04% with no trace of H2S gas was detected in the off gas. Meanwhile, a white precipitate was captured on the carrier showing the formation of sulfur. According to the developed mathematical model, an upper airflow rate of greater than 2.02 L/day showed a small deterioration in CH4 removal performance after reaching the maximum value, whereas a 50 L/day bottom airflow rate was required to strip the CO2 efficiently and raise the effluent p H from 5.64 to 7.3. Microbiological analysis confirmed the presence of type 1 methanotroph communities dominated by Methylobacter and Methylocaldum. However, bacterial communities promoting sulfide oxidation were dominated by Hyphomicrobium.

Dermatomyositis associated with hepatocellular carcinoma in an elderly female patient with hepatitis C virus-related liver cirrhosis

A 79-year-old female patient with hepatitis C virusrelated liver cirrhosis was diagnosed as having hepatocellular carcinoma （HCC） with a diameter of 2.0 cm. She refused therapy for HCC. Nine months after the diagnosis, she developed dermatomyositis when the HCC enlarged to a diameter of 6.0 cm. She underwent therapy for dermatomyositis, and then transcatheter arterial chemoembolization for HCC. Although the manifestations of dermatomyositis improved and entire tumor necrosis was achieved, she died of pneumonia 2 mo after the treatment of HCC. HCC and/or chronic hepatitis C virus infection might be involved in the pathogenesis of dermatomyositis.

The biology of colorectal cancer differs according to its location within the large intestine.A report published in a previous issue of World Journal of Gastroenterology (November 2010) evaluated the importance of tumor location as a risk factor for lymph node metastasis in colorectal cancer,and showed that rectal cancer is prone to metastasize to lymph nodes as compared with colon ***,in order to conclude that the tumor location is independently associated with the occurrence of lymph node metastasis,it is necessary to consider a selection bias or other patientand tumorrelated factors carefully.
