Strengthening Injury Surveillance System in Iran

Objective： To strengthen the current Injury Surveillance System （IS System） in order to better monitor injury conditions, improve protection ways and promote safety. Methods： At first we carried out a study to evaluate the frameworks of IS System in the developed countries. Then all the available documents from World Health Organization, Eastern Mediterranean Regional Organization, as well as Minister of Health and Medical Education concerning Iran were reviewed. Later a national stakeholder＇s consultation was held to collect opinions and views. A national workshop was also intended for provincial representatives from 41 universities to identify the barriers and limitations of the existing program and further to strengthen injury surveillance. Results： The evaluation of the current IS System revealed many problems, mainly presented as lack of accurate pre- and post-hospital death registry, need of precise injury data registry in outpatient medical centers, incomplete injury data registry in hospitals and lack of accuracy in definition of variables in injury registry. The five main characteristics of current IS System including flexibility, acceptability, simplicity, usefulness and timeliness were evaluated as moderate by experts.Conclusions： Major revisions must be considered in the current IS System in Iran. The following elements should be added to the questionnaire： identifier, manner of arrival to the hospital, situation of the injured patient, consumption of alcohol and opioids, other involved participants in the accident, intention, severity and site of injury, side effects of surgery and medication, as well as one month follow-up results. Data should be collected from 10% of all hospitals in Iran and analyzed every 3 months. Simultaneously data should be online to be retrieved by researches.

Prevalence and risk factors of avian influenza H9N2 among backyard birds in Iran in 2015

Objective: To investigate the prevalence and the risk factors of H9 N2 avian influenza among backyard birds in Iran between October and November 2015. Methods: In this study, a total of 15 500 blood samples and 2 884 cloacal swab samples of backyard birds were collected in villages of Iran between October and November 2015. Then, serum samples were examined with the hemagluttination inhibition test and cloacal swab samples were pooled together and examined by RT-PCR. The samples that had serological titer ≥ 4(log2) and villages that had at least one seropositive sample were considered ***: Out of 559 villages, 526(94.10%) were seropositive for the infection. Among 15 500 serum samples, 7 468(48.18%) samples were seropositive for the infection. The seroprevalence according to species was 54.02% among chickens, 17.59 % among ducks, 18.73% among turkeys, 84.21% among pigeons and 12.15% among ostriches, partridges and pheasants. Based on molecular test, 3.04% villages were positive. The seroprevalence in hot and humid area was less than that in cold and humid area(P<0.05).Conclusions: H9 N2 avian influenza has high seroprevalence among backyard birds of Iran. Therefore, preventive measures such as biosecurity Practices and monitoring should be applied to reduce the prevalence.

Effect of extrusion process on microstructure and mechanical and corrosion properties of biodegradable Mg-5Zn-1.5Y magnesium alloy

The effect of extrusion temperature and ratio on the microstructure, hardness, compression, and corrosion behavior of Mg-5Zn-1.5Y alloy were analyzed in this study. The microstructural observations revealed that the cast alloy consists of α-Mg grains, and Mg3Zn6Y and Mg3Zn3Y2 intermetallic compounds, mostly located on the α-Mg grain boundaries. Extruded alloy at higher temperatures showed coarser grain microstructures, whereas those extruded at higher ratios contained finer ones, although more dynamic recrystalized grains with lower intermetallics were measured at both conditions. Combined conditions of the lower temperature (340°C) and higher ratio (1:11.5) provided higher compressive strengths. However, no significant hardness improvement was achieved. The extrusion process could decrease the corrosion rate of the cast alloy in simulated body fluid for over 80% due to primarily the refined microstructure. The extrusion temperature showed a more pronounced effect on corrosion resistance compared to the extrusion ratio, and the higher the extrusion temperature, the higher the corrosion resistance.

Extended consecutive modal pushover procedure for estimating seismic responses of one-way asymmetric plan tall buildings considering soil-structure interaction

Performance based design becomes an effective method for estimating seismic demands of buildings. In asymmetric plan tall building the effects of higher modes and torsion are crucial. The consecutive modal pushover （CMP） procedure is one of the procedures that consider these effects. Also in previous studies the influence of soil-structure interaction （SSI） in pushover analysis is ignored. In this paper the CMP procedure is modified for one-way asymmetric plan mid and high-rise buildings considering $SI. The extended CMP （ECMP） procedure is proposed in order to overcome some limitations of the CMP procedure. In this regard, 10, 15 and 20 story buildings with asymmetric plan are studied considering SSI assuming three different soil conditions. Using nonlinear response history analysis under a set of bidirectional ground motion; the exact responses of these buildings are calculated. Then the ECMP procedure is evaluated by comparing the results of this procedure with nonlinear time history results as an exact solution as well as the modal pushover analysis procedure and FEMA 356 load patterns. The results demonstrate the accuracy of the ECMP procedure.

The most common index for representing structural condition of the pavement is the structural *** current procedure for determining structural numbers involves utilizing falling weight deflectometer and ground-penetrating radar tests,recording pavement surface deflections,and analyzing recorded deflections by back-calculation *** procedure has two drawbacks:falling weight deflectometer and ground-penetrating radar are expensive tests;back-calculation ways has some inherent shortcomings compared to exact methods as they adopt a trial and error *** this study,three machine learning methods entitled Gaussian process regression,M5P model tree,and random forest used for the prediction of structural numbers in flexible *** of this paper is related to 759 flexible pavement sections at Semnan and Khuzestan provinces in Iran and includes“structural number”as output and“surface deflections and surface temperature”as *** accuracy of results was examined based on three criteria of R,MAE,and *** the methods employed in this paper,random forest is the most accurate as it yields the best values for above criteria(R=0.841,MAE=0.592,and RMSE=0.760).The proposed method does not require to use ground penetrating radar test,which in turn reduce costs and work *** machine learning methods instead of back-calculation improves the calculation process quality and accuracy.

Thermally Stable and Organo-soluble Polyamides Containing Triazine Rings and Ether Linkages in the Main Chain: Synthesis and Characterization

In order to synthesize new polyamide（PA） 5 and copolyamides（Co PA） 7a-7d, a new-type of dicarboxylic acid containing triazine ring was successfully synthesized from 2,4-dichloro-6-methoxy-s-triazine 1 and 4-aminobenzoic acid. New polyamide 5 containing triazine moiety was prepared from 4,4＇-（6-methoxy-1,3,5-triazine-2,4-diyl）bis（azanediyl）dibenzoic acid 3 and 4,4′-diaminodiphenylether by direct polycondensation reaction. Then new series thermally stable copolyamides 7a-7d with high solubility in common organic solvents were synthesized from the direct polycondensation reaction of diacid 3 as a first monomer, aliphatic-aromatic diacids 6a-6d as second diacids and 4,4′-diaminodiphenylether. All of the above polymers were fully characterized by 1H-NMR and FTIR spectroscopy, elemental analysis（CHN）, inherent viscosity, solubility tests, gel permeation chromatography（GPC）, differential scanning calorimetry（DSC） and thermogravimetric analysis（TGA）. The resulted Co PAs 7a-7d have shown good inherent viscosities, solubility and thermal properties.

Modified Activated Carbon as Solid Phase Extraction Adsorbent for the Preconcentration and Determination of Trace As（Ⅲ） in Environmental Samples by Graphite Furnace Atomic Absorption Spectrometry

A simple and selective method was developed for the preconcentration, separation, and determination of trace amounts of As（Ⅲ） in an aqueous solution by solid phase extraction combined with graphite furnace atomic absorption spectrometry. Activated carbon （AC） was modified by sodium diethyldithiocarbamate （NaDDTC） and then used as a new, stable and easily prepared solid sorbent in a mini column for the extraction of As（Ⅲ） in aqueous solution. Factors influencing the sorption and desorption of As（Ⅲ）, such as volume and concentration of eluent, sam- ple pH, flow rate and effect of interfering ions on the recovery of As（Ⅲ） have been systemically investigated. At pH 2.0 As（Ⅲ） could be adsorbed quantitatively by NaDDTC-AC, and then eluted completely with 2 mL of 3.0 moloL 1 HNO3. The amount of eluted As（Ⅲ） was measured using graphite furnace atomic absorption spectrometry. The detection limit of As（Ⅲ） was 0.04 ng·mL-1 with enrichment factor of 100 and the relative standard deviation （RSD, n=8） was 1.58% at 10 ng·mL-1 level.
