In the present work,a new combination of Raman and ultraviolet and visible(UV/Vis)absorption spectroelectrochemistry in reflection mode is *** new experimental setup allows obtaining the two kinds of spectroscopic data without interferences concomitantly with the electrochemical *** the best of our knowledge,it is the first time to report the simultaneous obtention of electrochemical,electronic,and vibrational information in the same *** new combination provides time-resolved information about the processes that are taking place on the electrode/solution interface which has significant implications in different fields of chemistry,such as modification of electrodes,studies of electrocatalytic reaction mechanisms,development of sensors,among *** different systems were used to demonstrate the advantages and capabilities of the brand-new technique,namely,the oxidation of potassium ferrocyanide,an out-sphere system that is usually employed in the validation of SEC techniques,and the electrochemical-surface enhanced Raman spectroscopy(EC-SERS)detection of crystal violet by in-situ formation of the silver SERS substrate,where the UV/Vis spectra were used to follow the formation of the SERS substrate,whereas the Raman response of a probe molecule was used to confirm either the formation of a nanostructured surface and to obtain the fingerprint of the molecule with a high time *** brand-new experimental setup has shown to be useful,versatile,robust,compact,and easy to use for future applications.

Fish constitutes the main protein source for the Amazonian ***,the impact of different anthropogenic activities on trace element and metal accumulation in fish and their risks for human health at a regional scale remain largely *** we assessed exposure levels of 10 trace elements andmetals(Cr,Mn,Fe,Ni,Cu,Zn,As,Cd,Pb,and Hg)in 56 samples belonging to 11 different species of fish from the Brazilian *** studied the relationship between exposure levels,fish origin,and fish feeding habits,and assessed toxicological and carcinogenic risks for the Amazonian *** significant correlation was found between sampling site and exposure levels to the studied elements,but a significant difference was found between the accumulation of some metals and the position of the fish species in the food *** concentrations of Cr and Hg in fish flesh were found to exceed the Brazilian limits for human *** study shows that current fish consumption patterns can lead to estimated daily intakes of Hg,As and Cr that exceed the oral reference dose,thus posing a toxicological ***,carcinogenic risks may be expected due to the continued exposure to Cr and *** results of this study show that the consumption of wild caught fish in the Amazon region should be ***,continued monitoring of trace element and metal contamination in fish and on the health of the Amazonian population is recommended,particularly for riverine and indigenous communities.

Distributed Algorithms for Event Reporting in Mobile-Sink WSNs for Internet of Things

Wireless Sensor Networks（WSNs） have many applications, such as climate monitoring systems, fire detection, smart homes, and smart cities. It is expected that WSNs will be integrated into the Internet of Things（IoT）and participate in various tasks. WSNs play an important role monitoring and reporting environment information and collecting surrounding context. In this paper we consider a WSN deployed for an application such as environment monitoring, and a mobile sink which acts as the gateway between the Internet and the WSN. Data gathering is a challenging problem in WSNs and in the IoT because the information has to be available quickly and effectively without delays and redundancies. In this paper we propose several distributed algorithms for composite event detection and reporting to a mobile sink. Once data is collected by the sink, it can be shared using the IoT infrastructure. We analyze the performance of our algorithms using WSNet simulator, which is specially designed for event-based WSNs. We measure various metrics such as average residual energy, percentage of composite events processed successfully at the sink, and the average number of hops to reach the sink.

Spatial and temporal spread of Citrus tristeza virus and its aphid vectors in the North western area of Morocco

First report of Citrus tristeza virus （CTV, Closterovirus） in Morocco datesback to 1961 in collections of citrus varieties. An exhaustive survey of citrus in the north of the country in 2009 revealed that CTV was spread all over the citrus production area. We attempted to evaluate the relative contribution of different aphid species in the spread of CTV disease in a Citrus reticulata orchard at the Loukkous region during 2 years （2012 and 2013）. The overall CTV incidence estimated in the experimental site increased from 17.8% in 2012 to 31.15% in 2013. The most abundant aphid species colonising clementine trees was Aphis spiraecola and A. gossypii. Both aphid species reached their maximum peaks during the spring season. The rate of viruliferous aphids, estimated by real-time RT-PCR of single aphid, revealed that 35.4% of winged A. gossypii and 28.8% of winged A. spiraecola were viruliferous, confirming a high inoculum pressure in the area surrounding the experimental site. The aphid species Toxoptera citricida, which is able to transmit the aggressive isolates of CTV, was not found in the Loukkous region. The study of the spatial distribution of the CTV showed that in general, the disease was randomly distributed in the field. Overall, the results seem to indicate that A. spiraecola may be considered as the major aphid species contributing to CTV spread in our experimental conditions. The prevalence of mild strains in the region and the high level of aphid flight activity could explain the rapid evolution of CTV incidence in the experimental area.

CXC family of chemokines as prognostic or predictive biomarkers and possible drug targets in colorectal cancer

Colorectal cancer(CRC) is the third most common cancer in men and the second most common cancer in women,worldwide. In the early stages of the disease, biomarkers predicting early relapse would improve survival *** metastatic patients, the use of predictive biomarkers could potentially result in more personalized treatments and better outcomes. The CXC family of chemokines(CXCL1 to 17) are small(8 to 10 kDa) secreted proteins that attract neutrophils and lymphocytes. These chemokines signal through chemokine receptors(CXCR) 1 to *** studies have reported that these chemokines and receptors have a role in either the promotion or inhibition of cancer, depending on their capacity to suppress or stimulate the action of the immune system, *** general terms, activation of the CXCR1/CXCR2 pathway or the CXCR4/CXCR7 pathway is associated with tumor aggressiveness and poor prognosis; therefore,the specific inhibition of these receptors is a possible therapeutic strategy. On the other hand, the lesser known CXCR3 and CXCR5 axes are generally considered to be tumor suppressor signaling pathways, and their stimulation has been suggested as a way to fight *** pathways have been studied in tumor tissues(using immunohistochemistry or measuring mRNA levels)or serum [using enzyme-linked immuno sorbent assay(ELISA) or multiplexing techniques], among other sample types. Common variants in genes encoding for the CXC chemokines have also been investigated as possible biomarkers of the disease. This review summarizes themost recent findings on the role of CXC chemokines and their receptors in CRC and discusses their possible value as prognostic or predictive biomarkers as well as the possibility of targeting them as a therapeutic strategy.

Predicting the performance of steam assisted gravity drainage (SAGD) method utilizing artificial neural network (ANN)

As the price of oil decreases,it is becoming increasingly important for oil companies to operate in the most costeffective *** problem is especially apparent in Western Canada,where most oil production is dependent on costly enhanced oil recovery(EOR)techniques such as steam-assisted gravity drainage(SAGD).Therefore,the goal of this study is to create an artificial neural network(ANN)that is capable of accurately predicting the ultimate recovery factor of oil reservoirs by steam-assisted gravity drainage(SAGD).The developed ANN model featured over 250 unique entries for oil viscosity,steam injection rate,horizontal permeability,permeability ratio,porosity,reservoir thickness,and steam injection pressure collected from *** collected data set was entered through a feed-forward back-propagation neural network to train,validate,and test the model to predict the recovery factor of SAGD method as accurate as *** from this study revealed that the neural network was able to accurately predict recovery factors of selected projects with less than 10%*** the neural network was exposed to a new simulation data set of 64 points,the predictions were found to have an accuracy of 82%as measured by linear ***,the feasibility of ANN to predict the recovery performance of one of the most complicated enhanced heavy oil recovery techniques with reasonable accuracy was confirmed.

The extractable hydrokinetic power from an oscillating membrane-based harvester

The extractable hydrokinetic power from an oscillating membrane in standing motion and induced by a water flow and its possible significance with regard energy harvesting is *** main attractiveness of such an energy harvester lies in the possibility of an inexpensive technology able to be used in those water flows which either because limitation of space(narrow channels) or a limited differential pressure drop with the surrounding but yet with a non negligible velocity are not well suited to be turbined. Utilizing a simplified geometrical model, an estimate of the extractable output density power per area of membrane was derived. Preliminary experiments were performed using a rectangular thin rubber membrane and for a typical domestic water intake as source. The experimental data quantitatively agree very well with the theoretical prediction where it was found that for water flows around 2 m/s the output power density from the membrane may be around 30 mW/cm^2 of membrane. Additional research and development is required in order to arrive at a reliable practical and commercial design.
