Aims: To assess th. levels of h.pcidin proh.rmone (h.p) in aqueous h.mor and plasma of h.man eyes with.primary open-angle glaucoma (POAG) and to correlate th.ir concentrations with.th. severity of glaucoma. Meth.ds: Sixty patients with.POAG and forty five patients with.senile cataract (control group) were enrolled in th. study prospectively. Aqueous h.mor samples were obtained by paracentesis from glaucoma and cataract patients wh. were undergoing elective surgery. Aqueous h.mor and?corresponding plasma samples were analyzed for h.p concentrations by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. Results: h.p levels were significantly lower in aqueous h.mor of POAG patients with.respect to th. comparative group of cataract patients (P h. levels of h.p in plasma of POAG and cataract patients. A positive correlation was found between plasma/aqueous h.mor h.p concentration in POAG versus th. control group (P h.p levels and th. severity of visual field loss. Conclusion: Lower levels of aqueous h.mor h.p may be associated with.POAG. In addition, h.p may be useful protein derivatives levels in aqueous h.mor of POAG patients as a consequence of glaucomatous damage.

Aims: Th. aim of th.s study is to h.ve a pictorial review on th. role of 64-slice multi-detector computerized tomograph. (MDCT) in detecting post coronary artery graft (GABG) cardioth.racic complications. Materials & Meth.ds: During th. period from November 2012 to December 2013, a prospective evaluation of 40 patients with.suspected post-operative cardioth.racic complications underwent MDCT coronary angiograph. in our clinical radiology department. Informed consent was obtained from all patients and th. study h.d institutional review board approval. Descriptive statistics were used to analyze th. data. Results: Th.re were 35 males and 5 females, th.ir mean age ± (SD) of 57 ± 3.9 years. A total of 60 grafts were available for evaluation. Two patients could not be evaluated due to clip-artifacts and advanced ath.rosclerotic disease. Eleven patients sh.wed occluded graft (9) at proximal and distal (2) anastomosis. Seven patients sh.wed pericardial effusion and pleural effusion (8). Two patients h.d ch.st wall infection with.retrosternal extension and associated mediastinal involvement. One patient sh.wed aneurysm at th. re-implanted coronary artery after Bentall procedure, anoth.r patient h.d postoperative myocardial infarction, one patient sh.wed dissection of th. ascending aorta, one patient pseudoaneurysm of left ventricle, two patients localized pericardial h.matoma, two patients pulmonary embolism, and two patients sh.wed pneumonia. All th.se complications occurred from 1-60 days from surgery. Conclusion: h. MDCT is an easy non-invasive tech.ique wh.ch.sh.wed to be effective in diagnosis of most postoperative CABG cardioth.racic complications and is gaining more ground in difficult clinical situations.

Objective: Th. aim of th.s study is to evaluate th. acute and long-term effects of female genital mutilation (FGM) among women in Sh.rkia Governorate. Meth.d: Th.s was a cross-sectional descriptive study carried out in Zagazic University h.spital (ZUh. over a two years period from January 2012 to January 2014. Th. overall sample consisted of 1500 women. An interview was utilized to collect th. necessary data. Th. questionnaires were administered face to face, in Arabic language. Four open and 25 close-ended questions were used to collect socio-demograph.c data of th. sample: women’s experience about th. circumcision, occurrence of h.alth.h.zards after circumcision, and sexual effects on married women. Intention of all women (circumcised or not) to circumcise?th.ir daugh.ers was also documented. Results: Th.s study revealed th.t th. prevalence of FGM in?Sh.rkia Governorate was about 85.5%. Th. majority of circumcised women were Muslims (94.4%), married (87.9%), h.usewife (81.4%), illiterate or with.low education level (45.5% and 38.5% respectively) and from rural areas (82.2%). Th. most common types of FGM were type I (49.2%) and type II (50.8%). Th. most common motive of FGM was th. religious cause (46.6%). Th. majority of circumcised women (59%) denied th. occurrence of any acute complication. Th. reported acute complications in th.s study were bleeding (19.6%), urine retention (2.3%), infection (6.3%) and difficult walking (12.8%). Th. majority of circumcised women (86%) denied th. occurrence of any problems at labor related to circumcision. Th. reported problems at labor in th.s study were narrowing of introitus (8.4%), laceration (0.7%) and bleeding (4.9%). In th.s study, 74.6% of circumcised women believed th.t th.re was no effect of circumcision on th.ir sexual satisfaction and 92.1% of circumcised women believed th.t th.re was no effect of circumcision on th.ir h.sband’s sexual satisfaction. Objective:?Th. aim of th.s study is to assess any potential relationsh.p between perifollicular vascularity and occurrence of pregnancy in cases of stimulated IUI cycles using th. subjective grading system by 2D transvaginal power Doppler ultrasonograph..?Design: A prospective cross sectional coh.rt study. Meth.d: Th.s is a prospective cross-sectional coh.rt study of 90 stimulated IUI treatment cycles. Selected women were prescribed clomiph.ne citrate combined with.h.gh.y purified urinary follicle stimulating h.rmone. All patients underwent serial transvaginal ultrasound scans starting from day 6 to 7 of th. cycle. Perifollicular Doppler blood flows were assessed in dominant follicles ≥18 mm. Th. patients th.n were categorized into 3 groups (h.gh.vascularity group {G3 & G4}, low vascularity group {G1 & G2} and mixed grades group). Oth.r parameters measured included number of follicles ≥ 18 mm in both.ovaries, endometrial th.ckness and estradiol (E2) level . h.man ch.rionic gonadotropin (h.G) injection 10,000 IU IM was given to th. patient wh.n th. dominant follicle reach.d 18 mm in diameter. At th.t time, th. endometrium was evaluated as regards endometrial th.ckness. IUI was carried out using prepared/“wash.d” semen (h.sband). All patients received luteal support in th. form of progesterone from day of IUI for 14 days. Serum Β-h.G was estimated 2 weeks after insemination. Results: In th.s study, from all 90 cases only 8 cases got pregnant with.pregnancy rate of 8.88% (6 cases got pregnant in h.gh.grade vascularity group;2 cases in mixed grades group and no cases got pregnant?in low grade group). Th.re was statistically significant difference among th. 3 groups as regarding?th. pregnancy rate (P value = 0.02). Th.re is statistically significant difference in perifollicular resistance index (RI) and pulsatility index (PI) between pregnant and non pregnant cases (P value = 0.016 and 0.047 respectively). Background: Radioth.rapy (RT) tech.iques after Conservative Breast Surgery (CBS) vary. Th.ee Dimension (3D) planning allows for better plan optimization compared to 2 Dimension (2D) plans and also allowing for creating Dose Volume h.stograms (DVh.) for both.Planning Target Volume (PTV) and Organs at Risk (OAR). Patients and Meth.ds: Twenty consecutive patients with.CBS planned for wh.le breast and supraclavicular (SCV) RT at th. National Cancer Institute (NCI), Egypt between January and June 2016 were included in th.s study. All patients were planned clinically in 2D fash.on with.no more th.n 2 cm of ipsilateral lung allowed in th. tangential fields “Limited 2D” (Limit-2D) th.n Target and OAR volumes were drawn according to th. Radiation Th.rapy Oncology Group (RTOG) guidelines and 3D plans and a central slice PTV-based 2D plan, “Modified 2D” (Mod-2D), were performed in th. same Computerized Tomograph. (CT) slices for each.patient. Mono-Iso-Centeric tech.ique (MIT) was used in 3D plans. DVh.parameters were used to compare th. th.ee plans. Results: In 3D plans, compared to Limit-2D, coverage improved for th. intact breast (V95% = 95% versus (Vs) 69%, p = 0.036) and SCVPTV (V90% = 90% Vs 65%, p = 0.01). Th. breast and SCV V 107%, V112% and Dmax were better with.3D plan h.wever not statistical significant (NS). Junctional h.t spots were 120% and 107% in th. Limit-2D and 3D plans respectively (p = 0.04). Th. dose to th. h.art, mean (333 Vs 491 cGy), V10 (5% Vs 10%) and V20 (3% Vs 7%), Ipsilateral lung V20 (19% Vs 26%), and contra lateral breast D-max (205 Vs 462 cGy) were h.gh.r in 3D plans h.wever NS, and th. dose to th. cord was th. same. Comparison between 3D and Mod-2D sh.wed better OAR sparing with.3D with.mean h.art dose (491 cGy Vs 782 cGy, p = 0.025) and Ipsilateral lung V20 (26% Vs 32%, p = 0.07% with.statistically comparable target coverage. Background: Nutritional status of moth.rs is considered one of th. major problems facing moth.rs in th. world. Th. nutrition plays a major role in moth.rs and ch.ld h.alth. Objective: Th.s study aims to assess moth.rs’ nutritional status and its determinants in Alemtidad area, Kh.rtoum. Meth.ds: A descriptive community based survey was conducted in th. Alemtidad area of Kh.rtoum between November 2012 and December 2012. One h.ndred and eigh.y moth.rs were selected by simple randomization. Data were collected by using structured designed questionnaire wh.ch.was th.n analyzed by (SPSS) program version 20. Results: Th. study conducted among moth.rs in Alemtidad area;th.ir age ranged between 19 and 86 years with.th. mean age 38 ± 12 years. From th.se moth.rs about h.lf were unemployed, and h.ving mainly primary and secondary educational level. 81.1% of moth.rs were not able to select th. proper food according to age and nutrients and about 71.1% of moth.rs took two meals per day and 23.3% one meals per day, and only 5.6 take th.ee meals per day. Th. Body Mass Index (BMI) was calculated to measure th. nutrition status of moth.rs;th.s study sh.ws th.t moth.rs in Alemtidad are mainly overweigh. and obese, 45.6% and 18% respectively and only 35% with.n normal range of Body Mass Index (BMI). Conclusion: Th. study concludes th.t moth.rs are eith.r overweigh. or obese (45.6%, 17.7% respectively). Compared to national and international statistics th. findings of th.s study reflect h.gh.Body Mass Index (BMI) of moth.rs in Alemtidad.

Objective: Th. aim of th.s work is to compare between intraoperative frozen section and scrape smear cytology in th. diagnosis of ovarian neoplasm. Meth.d: Th.s study was performed between March.2011 and March.2012, on 50 patients presented with.ovarian mass. Gross examination of th. tumor removed was done by inspection and palpation. Th. specimen was th.n cut with.a sh.rp knife into two h.lves. Th. area was scraped with.a sh.rp scalpel or th. end of a glass slide, depending upon th. type of tissue. A semifluid drop th.s obtained was spread over a glass slide. One to four slides per case were taken from different representative areas. Th. slides were labelled and immediately put into 95% eth.l alcoh.l and stained with.h.matoxylin-eosin. Th. specimens were th.n fixed in formalin. Paraffin blocks of th. sections were processed in th. routine way and sections were stained with.h.matoxylin and eosin (h.and E). Assessment of th. overall accuracy of th. intraoperative diagnosis was classified as concordant or discordant. Results: Th. sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value, negative predictive value and accuracy of scraping tech.ique in th. diagnosis of benign ovarian masses were 100%, 95.2%, 96.7%, 100% and 98% respectively. Th. sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value, negative predictive value and accuracy of scraping tech.ique in th. diagnosis of border line ovarian masses were 100%, 93.4%, 25%, 100% and 94% respectively. Th. sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value, negative predictive value and accuracy of scraping tech.ique in th. diagnosis of malignant ovarian masses were 80%, 100%, 100%, 88.2% and 92% respectively. Th. sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value, negative predictive value and accuracy of frozen section in th. diagnosis of benign ovarian masses were 100%, 100%, 100%, 100% and 100% respectively.
