Primary sclerosing cholangitis in Turkish patients:characteristic features and prognosis

BACKGROUND:Primary sclerosing cholangitis(PSC)is a chronic cholestatic liver disease characterized by destruction and fibrosis of the bile *** study aimed to demonstrate the hepatic and extrahepatic characteristic findings and prognostic outcomes of Turkish patients with PSC. METHODS:The medical records of 35 consecutive patients with PSC from January 1988 to June 2007 were recorded *** the time of diagnosis,clinical features and laboratory data were collected. RESULTS:The mean age of the 35 patients was 41.69 years (range 15-80 years)at the time of diagnosis;14(40%)were female,and 21(60%)were *** mean duration of follow-up was 58.86 months(1-180 months).Twenty(57.1%) of the patients with PSC were asymptomatic and 22(62.9%) had inflammatory bowel *** the time of diagnosis, 20(57.1%)of the patients had both intra-and extra-hepatic ***-one(60%)of the patients,who had undergone ERCP for stent placement,had dominant bile duct stenosis. Cholangiocar.inoma was found in 2(5.7%)of the patients and cirrhosis was detected in 7(20%);5(14.3%)underwent liver *** median follow-up time after liver transplantation was 23 months and all are still *** (17.1%)patients died. CONCLUSIONS:PSC has a clinical course varied from advanced liver disease requiring liver transplantation within a short time to being asymptomatic for decades. The prognosis of Turkish patients with PSC is also disappointing as described in other studies.

Development of a multicellular 3D-bioprinted microtissue model of human periodontal ligament-alveolar bone biointerface:Towards a pre-clinical model of periodontal diseases and personalized periodontal tissue engineering

While periodontal (PD) disease is among principal causes of tooth loss worldwide, regulation of concomitant soft and mineralized PD tissues, and PD pathogenesis have not been completely clarified yet. Besides, relevant pre-clinical models and in vitro platforms have limitations in simulating human physiology. Here, we have harnessed three-dimensional bioprinting (3DBP) technology for developing a multi-cellular microtissue model resembling PD ligament-alveolar bone (PDL-AB) biointerface for the first time. 3DBP parameters were optimized;the physical, chemical, rheological, mechanical, and thermal properties of the constructs were assessed. Constructs containing gelatin methacryloyl (Gel-MA) and hydroxyapatite-magnetic iron oxide nanoparticles showed higher level of compressive strength when compared with that of Gel-MA constructs. Bioprinted self-supporting microtissue was cultured under flow in a microfluidic platform for >10 days without significant loss of shape fidelity. Confocal microscopy analysis indicated that encapsulated cells were homogenously distributed inside the matrix and preserved their viability for >7 days under microfluidic conditions. Immunofluorescence analysis showed the cohesion of stromal cell surface marker-1+ human PDL fibroblasts containing PDL layer with the osteocalcin+ human osteoblasts containing mineralized layer in time, demonstrating some permeability of the printed constructs to cell migration. Preliminary tetracycline interaction study indicated the uptake of model drug by the cells inside the 3D-microtissue. Also, the non-toxic levels of tetracycline were determined for the encapsulated cells. Thus, the effects of tetracyclines on PDL-AB have clinical significance for treating PD diseases. This 3D-bioprinted multi-cellular periodontal/osteoblastic microtissue model has potential as an in vitro platform for studying processes of the human PDL.

Taking into Account Density Fluctuations in a Solvent in a Model of Dissolution

Earlier it was shown by different authors that there are cavities (vacancies, holes) in any liquid. The cavities should play a prominent role in dissolution processes. Nevertheless this fact was ignored in previous model of dissolution. The sizes of the cavities in different solvents containing benzene molecules were determined using solvent induced spectral shift method. The measurements of S1←S0 benzene transition spectral shifts permit to conclude that 1) macroscopic excess volumes play an almost negligible role in processes of benzene dissolution in very different solvents and 2) the minimal size of the cavity in water able to accommodate benzene molecule coincides with the solute size. Generalization of this conclusion to other nonpolar aromatics leads to evaluation contraction of the solutes under aqueous solvent influence permits to predict the solubility values of other aromatics in water and to evaluate effect of enhancement hydrate cell around these molecules on solubility.

海口湾国际海洋公园位于中国南部海南岛海口市。海洋体育中心定期在这个海洋公园举行国际游艇和冲浪比赛，中心内包括海洋文化展览、文化活动以及向公众开放的咖啡馆和酒吧。我们还设计了位于码头外围的灯塔，作为整体设施的一部分。考虑到海洋和海洋文化背景，我们为海洋体育中心和灯塔都采用了“海浪”的概念，使码头周围的环境与多个设施通过同一种设计语言获得完整性。灯塔有一个垂直的波浪形白色百叶窗立面，沿着收缩的圆柱体结合了各种斜角三角形横截面，形成了一个融入海洋景观的立面。

Plasmid profiling and antibiotics resisitance of Escherichia coli strains isolated from Mytilus galloprovincialis and seawater

Objective:To investigate plasmid DNA profiles and the antibiotic resistance of a total of 41 strains of Escherichia coli(***)isolated from seawater and mussel collected from 15 different sampling stations in Sinop,***:Most probable number technique was used for detection of *** susceptibilities of the isolates were determined by the disc diffusion *** DNA of the strains was extracted by the alkaline lyses ***:According to morphological and physiological properties,it was determined that the isolates belonged to *** *** susceptibility of the strains was determined against seven standard drugs using disc diffusion *** isolates were resistant to bacitracin(100%),novobiocin(100%),ampicillin(12.5%),tetracycline(7.5%),ceftazidime(5%)and imipenem(2.5%),respectively,whereas the strains were susceptible to polymyxin B(100%).The multiple antibiotic resistance values for the strains were found in range from 0.28 to *** addition,plasmid DNA analyses results confirmed that 22 strains harbored a single or more than two plasmids sized approximately between 24.500 to 1.618 *** high-size plasmid(14.700 bp)was observed as common in 21 of all ***:As a result,our study indicated that the presence of antibiotic resistant *** strains in seawater and mussel might be potential risk for public health issue.
