Big Data Analytics in Telecommunications: Literature Review and Architecture Recommendations

This paper focuses on facilitating state-of-the-art applications of big data analytics(BDA) architectures and infrastructures to telecommunications(telecom) industrial *** companies are dealing with terabytes to petabytes of data on a daily basis. Io T applications in telecom are further contributing to this data deluge. Recent advances in BDA have exposed new opportunities to get actionable insights from telecom big data. These benefits and the fast-changing BDA technology landscape make it important to investigate existing BDA applications to telecom sector. For this, we initially determine published research on BDA applications to telecom through a systematic literature review through which we filter 38 articles and categorize them in frameworks, use cases, literature reviews, white papers and experimental validations. We also discuss the benefits and challenges mentioned in these articles. We find that experiments are all proof of concepts(POC) on a severely limited BDA technology stack(as compared to the available technology stack), i.e.,we did not find any work focusing on full-fledged BDA implementation in an operational telecom environment. To facilitate these applications at research-level, we propose a state-of-the-art lambda architecture for BDA pipeline implementation(called Lambda Tel) based completely on open source BDA technologies and the standard Python language, along with relevant *** discovered only one research paper which presented a relatively-limited lambda architecture using the proprietary AWS cloud infrastructure. We believe Lambda Tel presents a clear roadmap for telecom industry practitioners to implement and enhance BDA applications in their enterprises.

Microbiostatic, antioxidative and cytotoxic potentiation of some grasses of Bahawalpur, Pakistan

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate biological potential of methanol and n-hexane extracts of aerial parts in seven species of family ***: Qualitative phytochemical tests were done by using standard protocols. In vitro antioxidant activity was performed via different assays and antimicrobial potential was observed via disc diffusion method. Cytotoxic activity was carried out using brine shrimps’ ***: Phytochemical studies revealed the presence of alkaloids, flavonoids, glycosides, phenols,steroids, saponins, tannins, anthocyanins and coumarins in most of the plant extracts. Maximum antioxidant and antimicrobial potential were observed in Cymbopogon citratus methanol extract and Cymbopogon citratus n-hexane extract along with significant number of total flavonoids and phenols contents. However, Polypogon monspeliensis methanol extract and Polypogon monspeliensis n-hexane extract showed minimum antioxidant as well as antimicrobial potential. Moreover, methanol extracts showed a cytotoxic effect with their effectiveness ranked Polypogon monspeliensis methanol extract > Cymbopogon citratus methanol extract > Phalaris minor n-hexane extract > Aristida funiculata methanol extract > Stipagrostis plumosa methanol extract > Cenchrus ciliaris methanol extract > Panicum antidotale methanol extract. Similarly, n-hexane plant extracts revealed cytotoxic activity in decreasing order Cenchrus ciliaris n-hexane extract > Stipagrostis plumosa n-hexane extract > Phalaris minor n-hexane extract > Aristida funiculata n-hexane extract > Polypogon monspeliensis n-hexane extract > Panicum antidotale n-hexane extract > Cymbopogon citratus n-hexane extract ***: Methanol extracts exhibit significant antioxidant and antimicrobial potential which can be correlated to their medicinal values. The observed brine shrimp’s lethality of the plant extracts revealed the presence of potent cytotoxic components in these plants.

Effect of Salicylic Acid on Salinity-induced Changes in Brassica juncea

Seeds of Indian mustard （Brassicajuncea （L.） Czern. et Coss.） were exposed to 0, 50, 100 and 150 mmol/L NaCI for 8 h and seeds were sown in an earthen pot. These stressed seedlings were subsequently sprayed with 10μmol/L salicylic acid （SA） at 30 d and were sampled at 60 d to assess the changes in growth, photosynthesis and antioxidant enzymes. The seedlings raised from the seeds treated with NaCI had significantly reduced growth and the activities of carbonic anhydrase, nitrate reductase and photosynthesis, and the decrease was proportional to the increase in NaCI concentration. However, the antioxidant enzymes （catalase, peroxidase and superoxide dismutase） and proline content was enhanced in response to NaCI and/or SA treatment, where their interaction had an additive effect. Moreover, the toxic effects generated by the lower concentration of NaCI （50 mmol/L） were completely overcome by the application of SA. It was, therefore, concluded that SA ameliorated the stress generated by NaCl through the alleviated antioxidant system.

Performance evaluation of multicast relay network using LDPC and convolutional channel codes along-with XOR network coding

In this paper, we have compared the performance of joint network channel coding （JNCC） for multicast relay network using low density parity check （LDPC） codes and Convolutional codes as channel codes while exclusive or （XOR） network coding used at the intermediate relay nodes. Multicast relay transmission is a type of transmission scheme in which two fixed relay nodes contribute in the second hop of end-to-end transmission between base transceiver station （BTS） and a pair of mobile stations. We have considered one way and two way multicast scenarios to evaluate the bit error rate （BER） and throughput performance. It has been shown that when using XOR network coding at the intermediate relay nodes, the same transmission becomes possible in less time slots hence throughput performance can be improved. Moreover we have also discussed two possible scenarios in the proposed system model, in which both diversity and multiplexing gain has been considered. It is worth notifying that BER and throughput achieved for LDPC codes is better than Convolutional codes for all the schemes discussed.

Evaluation of zirconia–porcelain interface using X-ray diffraction

The aim of this study was to determine if accelerated aging of porcelain veneering had an effect on the surface properties specific to a tetragonal-to-monoclinic transformation（TMT） of zirconia restorations. Thirty-six zirconia samples were milled and sintered to simulate core fabrication followed by exposure to various combinations of surface treatments including as-received（control）,hydrofluoric acid（HF）, application of liner plus firings, application of porcelain by manual layering and pressing with firing, plus accelerated aging. The quantity of transformed tetragonal to monoclinic phases was analyzed utilized an X-ray diffractometer and one-way analysis of variance was used to analyze data. The control samples as provided from the dental laboratory after milling and sintering process had no TMT（X m5 0）. There was an effect on zirconia samples of HF application with TMT（X m5 0.8%） and liner plus HF application with TMT（X m5 8.7%）. There was an effect of aging on zirconia samples（no veneering） with significant TMT（X m5 70.25%）. Both manual and pressing techniques of porcelain applications reduced the TMT（manual, X m5 4.41%, pressing,X m5 11.57%）, although there was no statistical difference between them. It can be concluded that simulated applications of porcelain demonstrated the ability to protect zirconia from TMT after aging with no effect of a liner between different porcelain *** HF treatment also caused TMT.

Accelerated ultraviolet weathering investigation on micro-/nano-SiO_(2)filled silicone rubber composites

This study attempts to elucidate whether the addition of micro and/or nano-silica(SiO_(2))particles can enhance the resistance of pure polydimethylsiloxane against synergistic effects of UV,temperature and high-voltage *** types of composites(U-SR,M-SR,MN-SR and N-SR)are fabricated by adding micro and/or nano-silica particles and then subjected to multi-stress degradation in a test *** show that there is an apparent surface discoloration in the form of yellowish pale tint and a significant resistance to hydrophobicity reduction is offered by N-SR and MN-SR followed by M-SR and *** electron microscopy and surface roughness findings proclaimed that N-SR and MN-SR offer excellent resistance against filler exposure and an increase in surface *** is a minor reduction in absorbance level of Si(CH_(3))_(2) and Si-O-Si functional groups of composites but interestingly,hydrophilic hydroxyl group absorbance level is found higher in the U-SR ***,dielectric response measurements indicate considerable sensitivity to weathering with N-SR and MN-SR giving the lowest dielectric *** indicate that the addition of nano-silica to pure and micro-silica filled SR can enhance its UV weathering resistance considerably by building an effective UV shielding layer.

AIM:To evaluate the causes of phakic implantable collamer lens(ICL)exchange/explantation in patients with and without keratoconus(KC)at two tertiary hospitals in Riyadh,Saudi ***:A retrospective chart review of all patients who underwent ICL(model V4 c with central port)exchange/explantation was performed using the electronic medical record *** available preoperative and postoperative data were documented for each ***:Over 7 y,2283 ICL implantation procedures were performed;46 implants(2%)required exchange(21 implants)/explantation(25 implants),of which 14 cases(30.4%)were patients with *** for ICL exchange/explantation in non-KC group were vault measurement,cataract formation,increased intraocular pressure,inaccurate refraction,and patient dissatisfaction in 22(68.75%),4(12.5%),3(9.37%),2(6.25%),and 1(3.12%)case,*** most common indication for ICL exchange/explantation in the KC group was inaccurate vault sizing in 11 patients(78.57%),inaccurate refraction in 2 patients(14.28%),and patient dissatisfaction postoperatively in 1(7.14%)***:ICL implantation results in predictable refractive outcomes over the long term with exchange/explantation rates comparable to previous *** vault size is the most common cause of ICL exchange/explantation among patients with or without KC.

Seismic fragility assessment of load‐bearing soft‐brick unreinforced masonry piers

Effect of liner and porcelain application on zirconia surface structure and composition

The purpose of this study was to determine if there is an effect of liner and porcelain application （layering and pressing techniques） on the surface of yttria-stabilized tetragonal zirconia polycrystals （Y-TZP）, which were exposed to permutations of liner, layered porcelain, and pressed porcelain. Scanning electron microscope （SEM）/energy dispersive spectroscope （EDS） was used to identify changes in composition and microstructure after removing liner and porcelain with hydrofluoric acid. Simulated aging was also conducted to determine the effect of liner and porcelain on low-temperature degradation. The control group had a typical equiaxed grain structure, referred to as unaffected. When covered with liner or porcelain, some areas changed in structure and composition and were termed affected. The frequency of affected sbructure decreased when liner was covered with either layered porcelain or pressed porcelain. There were statistical differences （P〈0.05） in the composition between affected and unaffected for zirconium （layered porcelain with liner： affected = 60% （0.8%）（m/m）, unaffected = 69% （4%）, layered porcelain without liner： affected = 59% （3%）, unaffected = 65% （3%）） and oxygen （layered porcelain with liner： affected = 35% （2%）, unaffected = 26% （4%）, layered porcelain without liner： affected = 35% （3%）, unaffected = 30% （2%））. However, there were statistical differences （P〈0.05） in the composition for zirconium and oxygen of the aged layered porcelain without liner only. The liner should not be used before porcelain application, especially when using the layering technique for zirconia restorations. Furthermore, pressing should be considered the technique of choice over layering.
