BACKGROUND Glomerulopathy with fibrillary deposits is not uncommon in routine nephropathology practice,with amyloidosis and fibrillary glomerulonephritis being the two most frequently encountered *** amyloid heavy and light chain(AHL)is relatively uncommon and its biopsy diagnosis is usually limited to cases that show strong equivalent staining for a single immunoglobulin(Ig)heavy chain and a single light chain,further supported by mass spectrometry(MS)and serum studies for monoclonal *** polyclonal light chain staining can pose a *** SUMMARY Herein we present a challenging case of renal AHL with polyclonal and polytypic Ig gamma(IgG)staining pattern by *** patient is a 62-yearold Caucasian male who presented to an outside institution with a serum creatinine of up to 8.1 mg/dL and nephrotic range *** the finding of a polyclonal and polytypic staining pattern on immunofluorescence,ultrastructural study of the renal biopsy demonstrated the presence of fibrils with a mean diameter of 10 *** red was positive while DNAJB9 was *** suggested a diagnosis of amyloid AHL type with IgG and lambda,but kappa light chains were also present supporting the immunofluorescence staining *** immunofixation studies demonstrated IgG lambda monoclonal *** patient was started on *** chronic renal injury however was quite advanced and he ended up needing dialysis shortly *** Tissue diagnosis of AHL amyloid can be *** confirmation using other available diagnostic techniques is recommended in such cases.

The diagnosis of ovarian torsion(OT)in girls is challenging compared to that of testicular torsion in boys for many reasons,but it behooves the medical community to continue to strive to better identify this uncommon but clinically important pathology^([1]) OT occurs when the ovary and associated structures rotate around its vascular pedicle,leading to eventually irreversible necrosis.^([2,3])Studies attempting to identify clinical features for early diagnosis have not reached a consensus on the best clinical predictors of this condition,making radiographic imaging of the ovaries even more crucial.^([4,5])

OBJECTIVE:To treat patients with psoriasis vulgaris using Traditional Chinese Medicine(TCM),one must stratify patients into subtypes(known as TCM syndromes or Zheng)and apply appropriate TCM treatments to different ***,no unified symptom-based classification scheme of subtypes(Zheng)exists for psoriasis *** present paper aims to classify patients with psoriasis vulgaris into different subtypes via the analysis of clinical TCM symptom and sign ***:A cross-sectional survey was carried out in Beijing from 2005-2008,collecting clinical TCM symptom and sign data from 2764 patients with psoriasis *** 108 symptoms and signs were initially analyzed using latent tree analysis,with a selection of the resulting latent variables then used as features to cluster patients into ***:The initial latent tree analysis yielded a model with 43 latent *** second phase of the analysis divided patients into three subtype groups with clear TCM Zheng connotations:'blood deficiency and wind dryness';'blood heat';and'blood stasis'.CONCLUSIONS:Via two-phase analysis of clinic symptom and sign data,three different Zheng subtypes were identified for psoriasis *** characteristics of the three subtypes are *** constitutes an evidence-based solution to the syndromedifferentiation problem that exists with psoriasis vulgaris.

Reconfigurable products and manufacturing systems have enabled manufacturers to provide ＂cost effective＂ variety to the market. In spite of these new technologies, the expense of manufacturing makes it infeasible to supply all the possible variants to the market for some industries. Therefore, the determination of the right number of product variantsto offer in the product portfolios becomes an important consideration. The product portfolio planning problem had been independently well studied from marketing and engineering perspectives. However, advantages can be gained from using a concurrent marketing and engineering approach. Concurrent product development strategies specifically for reconfigurable products and manufacturing systems can allow manufacturers to select best product portfolios from marketing, product design and manufacturing perspectives. A methodology for the concurrent design of a product portfolio and assembly system is presented. The objective of the concurrent product portfolio planning and assembly system design problem is to obtain the product variants that will make up the product portfolio such that oversupply of optional modules is minimized and the assembly line efficiency is maximized. Explicit design of the assembly system is obtained during the solution of the problem. It is assumed that the demand for optional modules and the assembly times for these modules are known a priori. A genetic algorithm is used in the solution of the problem. The basic premise of this methodology is that the selected product portfolio has a significant impact on the solution of the assembly line balancing problem. An example is used to validate this hypothesis. The example is then further developed to demonstrate how the methodology can be used to obtain the optimal product portfolio. This approach is intended for use by manufacturers during the early design stages of product family design.

Effects of storage time on DNA profiling success from archived latent fingerprint samples using an optimised workflow

Due to recent improvements in forensic DNA testing kit sensitivity,there has been an increased demand in the criminal justice community to revisit past convictions or cold *** of these cases have little biological evidence other than touch DNA in the form of archived latent fingerprint lift *** this study,a previously developed optimised workflow for this sample type was tested on aged fingerprints to determine if improved short tandem repeat(STR)profiles could be ***-year-old samples processed with the optimised workflow produced an average of approximately five more STR alleles per profile over the traditional *** optimised workflow also produced detectable alleles in samples aged out to 28 *** the methods tested,the optimised workflow resulted in the most informative profiles from evidence samples more representative of the forensic *** workflow is recommended for use with archived latent fingerprint samples,regardless of the archival time.
