Water is one of the needs with remarkable significance to man and other living *** quality management is a concept based on the continuous monitoring of water *** monitoring scheme aims to accumulate data to make decisions on water resource descriptions,identify real and emergent issues involving water pollution,formulate priorities,and plan for water quality *** regularly considered parameters when conducting water quality monitoring are turbidity,pH,temperature,conductivity,dissolved oxygen,chemical oxygen demand,biochemical oxygen demand,ammonia,and metal *** usual method employed in capturing these water parameters is the manual collection and sending of samples to a laboratory for detection and ***,this method is impractical in the long run because it is laborious and consumes a considerable amount of human *** integrated into a mobile phone application interface can address this *** paper aims to design and implement an Internet of Things-based system comprising pH,temperature,and turbidity sensors,which are all integrated into a mobile phone application interface for a water monitoring *** project utilizes the Bluetooth Standard(IEEE 802.15.1)for communication/transfer of data,while the water quality monitoring system relies on the pH,turbidity,and temperature of the test water.

Delineation of spring capture zones in southern Great Basin,USA based on modeling results and geochemical data

The protection zones or capture zones of springs in desert environments can be hard to identify,but they are critical to spring *** springs fed by regional aquifers are susceptible to contamination and groundwater *** *** Protection Agency has established hydrogeologic mapping methods to delineate protection zones for ***,it is often difficult to determine a regional aquifer system's flow pattern with this technique alone,and the use of these methods is not conducive to efficient groundwater *** tracking analysis using a well-conceptualized and calibrated numerical model for the three-dimensional groundwater flow domain feeding a given group of springs can help facilitate the identification of spring capture zone *** upon this basis,a multifaceted approach was developed to define clear boundaries of the capture zones for the springs in the Furnace Creek,Ash Meadows,and the Muddy River areas in the southern Great Basin,*** zones were first delineated from inverse particle tracking and Hydrologic Unit 12 ***,they were adjusted based on water budgets,geology,and hydrologically significant ***,a geochemical analysis of the groundwater chemistry and isotopic data was conducted to verify the extent of each spring capture *** multifaceted approach adds confidence to the new delineations.

植物甾醇对桑椹花色苷脂质体及其抗氧化活性的影响

植物甾醇的分子结构与胆固醇相似,作为膜结构调节剂,植物甾醇既能调节脂质体膜的结构性质,又能避免胆固醇摄入的负面影响。本研究以植物甾醇替代胆固醇,通过薄膜分散-超声法制备桑椹花色苷脂质体,评价了脂质体的包封率、粒径、电位和微观形态等指标,并探究了植物甾醇对脂质体pH稳定性和抗氧化活性的影响。结果表明,与胆固醇脂质体类似,植物甾醇的添加也能够得到粒径小、分散性好、包封率高的桑椹花色苷脂质体。当β-谷甾醇添加量为卵磷脂质量的26%时,桑椹花色苷脂质体贮藏后的DPPH自由基清除能力提高率是添加了等量胆固醇的脂质体的1.6倍。植物甾醇脂质体贮藏前后的氧自由基吸收能力(oxygen radical absorbance capacity,ORAC)优于胆固醇脂质体的,尤其在胆固醇脂质体贮藏后,ORAC值下降2.42倍~3.65倍,植物混合甾醇脂质体的ORAC值则变化不大。综上,采用植物甾醇替代胆固醇制备桑椹花色苷脂质体,可制得较稳定、并具有良好抗氧化活性的脂质体,可为负载生物活性物质的植物甾醇脂质体的构建提供理论基础。

Early-onset gastric cancer:Learning lessons from the young

There is by no means a clear-cut pattern of mutations contributing to gastric cancers,and gastric cancer research can be hampered by the diversity of factors that can induce gastric cancer,such as Helicobacter pylori infection,diet,ageing and other environmental *** are unquestionably riddled with genetic changes yet we are faced with an unsolvable puzzle with respect to a temporal *** is postulated that inherited genetic factors may be more important in early-onset gastric cancer (EOGC) than in gastric cancers found in older patients as they have less exposure to environmental ***,therefore,could provide a key to unravelling the genetic changes in gastric *** cancers occurring in young patients provide an ideal background on which to try and uncover the initiating stages of gastric *** review summarizes the literature regarding EOGC and also presents evidence that these cancers have a unique molecular-genetic phenotype,distinct from conventional gastric cancer.

Factors influencing health-related quality of life in chronic liver disease

AIM： To investigate the factors contributing to healthrelated quality of life （HRQL） in chronic liver disease （CLD）.METHODS： Patients with CLD and age- and sexmatched normal subjects performed the validated Thai versions of the short-form 36 （SF-36） by health survey and chronic liver disease questionnaire （CLDQ）. Stepwise multiple regression analysis was used to assess the impact of disease severity, demography, causes of CLD, socioeconomic factors, and self-rating health perception on HRQL.RESULTS： Two-hundred and fifty patients with CLD and fifty normal subjects were enrolled into the study. Mean age and the numbers of low educated, unemployed, blue-collar career and poor health perception increased significantly from chronic hepatitis to Child＇s Classes A to B to C. Advanced stage of CLD was related to deterioration of HRQL. Increasing age and female reduced physical health area. Low socioeconomic factors and financial burden affected multiple areas of HRQL. In overall, the positive impact of self-rating health perception on HRQL was consistently showed.CONCLUSION： Advanced disease, old age, female sex, stages of chronic liver low socioeconomic status and financial burden are important factors reducing HRQL. Good health perception improves HRQL regardless of stages of liver disease.

Ecdysone and Insulin Signaling Play Essential Roles in Readjusting the Altered Body Size Caused by the dGPAT4 Mutation in Drosophila

Body size is one of the features that distinguish one species from another in the biological world. Animals have developed mechanisms to control their body size during normal development. However, how animals cope with genetic alterations and/or environmental stresses to develop into normal-sized adults remain poorly understood. The ability of the animals to develop into a normal-sized adult after the challenges of genetic alterations and/or environmental stresses reveals a robustness of body size control. Here we show that the mutation of dGPAT4, a de novo synthase of lysophosphatidic acid, is a genetic alteration that triggers such a robust response of the animals to body size challenges in Drosophila. Loss of dGPAT4 leads to a severe delay of development, slow growth and resultant small-sized animals during the larval stages, but results in normal-sized adult flies. The robust body size adjustment of the dGPAT4 mutant is likely achieved by corresponding changes in ecdysone and insulin signaling, which is also manifested by compromised food intake. Thus, we propose that a strategy has been evolved by the animals to reach final body size when challenged by genetic alterations, which requires the coordinated ecdysone and insulin signaling.

Molecular alterations in gastric cancer with special reference to the early-onset subtype

Currently, gastric cancer(GC) is one of the most frequently diagnosed neoplasms, with a global burden of 723000 deaths in 2012. It is the third leading cause of cancer-related death worldwide. There are numerous possible factors that stimulate the procarcinogenic activity of important genes. These factors include genetic susceptibility expressed in a singlenucleotide polymorphism, various acquired mutations(chromosomal instability, microsatellite instability, somatic gene mutations, epigenetic alterations) and environmental circumstances(e.g., helicobcter pylori infection, EBV infection, diet, and smoking). Most of the aforementioned pathways overlap, and authors agree that a clear-cut pathway for GC may not exist. Thus, the categorization of carcinogenic events is complicated. Lately, it has been claimed that research on early-onset gastric carcinoma(EOGC) and hereditary GC may contribute towards unravelling some part of the mystery of the GC molecular pattern because young patients are less exposed to environmental carcinogens and because carcinogenesis in this setting may be more dependent on genetic factors. The comparison of various aspects that differ and coexist in EOGCs and conventional GCs might enable scientists to: distinguish which features in the pathway of gastric carcinogenesisare modifiable, discover specific GC markers and identify a specific target. This review provides a summary of the data published thus far concerning the molecular characteristics of GC and highlights the outstanding features of EOGC.
