BIO‐inspired fuzzy inference system—For physiological signal analysis

When a person's neuromuscular system is affected by an injury or disease,Activities‐for‐Daily‐Living(ADL),such as gripping,turning,and walking,are impaired.Electroen-cephalography(EEG)and Electromyography(EMG)are physiological signals generated by a body during neuromuscular activities embedding the intentions of the subject,and they are used in Brain–Computer Interface(BCI)or robotic rehabilitation systems.However,existing BCI or robotic rehabilitation systems use signal classification technique limitations such as(1)missing temporal correlation of the EEG and EMG signals in the entire window and(2)overlooking the interrelationship between different sensors in the system.Furthermore,typical existing systems are designed to operate based on the presence of dominant physiological signals associated with certain actions;(3)their effectiveness will be greatly reduced if subjects are disabled in generating the dominant signals.A novel classification model,named BIOFIS is proposed,which fuses signals from different sensors to generate inter‐channel and intra‐channel relationships.It ex-plores the temporal correlation of the signals within a timeframe via a Long Short‐Term Memory(LSTM)block.The proposed architecture is able to classify the various subsets of a full‐range arm movement that performs actions such as forward,grip and raise,lower and release,and reverse.The system can achieve 98.6%accuracy for a 4‐way action using EEG data and 97.18%accuracy using EMG data.Moreover,even without the dominant signal,the accuracy scores were 90.1%for the EEG data and 85.2%for the EMG data.The proposed mechanism shows promise in the design of EEG/EMG‐based use in the medical device and rehabilitation industries.

Sheet flow hydrodynamics over a non-uniform sand bed channel

The current study experimentally investigates the flow characteristics and temporal variations in the sheet flow profile of a non-uniform sand bed channel. Experiments were done to explore turbulent structures in the presence of a sheet flow layer with and without seepage. The turbulent events, such as stream wise velocity, Reynolds shear stresses, and turbulence intensities were found to be increasing and vertical velocity was found decreasing with a sheet layer. The presence of a sheet layer also effects the turbulent energy production and energy dissipation. All the turbulence parameters with and without a sheet layer have also been influenced by the presence of downward seepage. The rate of sheet flow movement is increased with seepage, owing to increased turbulence with seepage. The current study used wavelet analysis on temporally lagged spatial bed elevation profiles obtained from a set of laboratory experiments and synchronized the wavelet coefficients with bed elevation fluctuation at different spatial scales. A spatial cross correlation analysis at multiple scales, based on the wavelet coefficients, has been done on these bed elevation datasets to observe the effect of downward seepage on the dynamic behavior of sheet flow at different length scales. It is found that seepage increases average bed celerity and also increases the celerity of sheet flow of similar length scales. This increase in the celerity has been hypothesized as the increase of sheet flow movement as well as the increase in turbulent parameters with seepage, which destabilizes the bed particles resulting in a disruption in the continuous propagation pattern of the sheet flow. The increase of sheet flow celerity with seepage is confirmed from the saturation level of the wavelet power spectra of the bed elevation series. The presence of seepage also affects the non-uniformity of collective sheet material.

Co-relation of SARS-CoV-2 related 30-d mortality with HRCT score and RT-PCR Ct value-based viral load in patients with solid malignancy

BACKGROUND Coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)patients with malignancy are published worldwide but are lacking in data from India.AIM To characterize COVID-19 related mortality outcomes within 30 d of diagnosis with HRCT score and RT-PCR Ct value-based viral load in various solid malignancies.METHODS Patients included in this study were with an active or previous malignancy and with confirmed severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2(SARS-CoV-2)infection from the institute database.We collected data on demographic details,baseline clinical conditions,medications,cancer diagnosis,treatment and the COVID-19 disease course.The primary endpoint was the association between the mortality outcome and the potential prognostic variables,specially,HRCT score,RT-PCR Ct value-based viral load,etc.using logistic regression analyses treatment received in 30 d.RESULTS Out of 131 patients,123 met inclusion criteria for our analysis.The median age was 57 years(interquartile range=19-82)while 7(5.7%)were aged 75 years or older.The most prevalent malignancies were of GUT origin 49(39.8%),hepatopancreatobiliary(HPB)40(32.5%).109(88.6%)patients were on active anticancer treatment,115(93.5%)had active(measurable)cancer.At analysis on May 20,2021,26(21.1%)patients had died.In logistic regression analysis,independent factors associated with an increased 30-d mortality were in patients with the symptomatic presentation.Chemotherapy in the last 4 wk,number of comorbidities(≥2 vs none:3.43,1.08-8.56).The univariate analysis showed that the risk of death was significantly associated with the HRCT score:for moderate(8-15)[odds ratio(OR):3.44;95%confidence interval(CI):1.3-9.12;P=0.0132],severe(>15)(OR:7.44;95%CI:1.58-35.1;P=0.0112).CONCLUSION To the best of our knowledge,this is the first study from India reporting the association of HRCT score and RT-PCR Ct value-based 30-d mortality outcomes in SARS-CoV-2 infected cancer patients.

Experimental assessment and prediction of temporal scour depth around a spur dike

Spur dikes are river training structures that have been extensively used worldwide for towards enhancing flood control and the stability of embankments and riverbanks.However,scour around spur dikes can be a major problem affecting their stability and hydraulic performance.The precise computation of temporal scour depth at spur dikes is very important for the design of economical and safe spur dikes.This study focuses on experimentally assessing the temporal variation of scour depth around a vertical wall spur dike and identifying the parameters,which mostly influence spur dike performance for a channel bed surface comprised of sand-gravel mixtures.In the current study,the authors did physical experiments in a flume based study to obtain new data,aimed at deriving a new predictive model for spur dike scour and comparing its performance to others found in the literature.It was found that the dimensionless temporal scour depth variation increases with an increase in(i) the threshold velocity ratio,(ii) the densimetric Froude number of the bed surface sediment mixture,(iii) the flow shallowness(defined as the ratio of the approach flow depth,y,to the spur dike’s transverse length,l),and(iv) the flow depth-particle size ratio.It is also concluded that the temporal scour depth variation in the sediment mixture is influenced by the non-uniformity of sediment and decreases with an increase in the non-uniformity of the sediment mixture.A new mathematical model is derived for the estimation of temporal scour depths in sand-gravel sediment mixtures.The proposed equation has been calibrated and validated with the experimental data,demonstrating a good predictive capacity for the estimation of temporal scour depth evolution.

Insight into Metabolomic Profiling of Tinospora cordifolia: Recent Advances and Future Perspectives of Quality Control

The objective of this study was to offer a review of previous works on Tinospora cordifolia(TC) metabolomics with a highlight on the use of metabolomics in comparative evaluations between varieties and selection of optimum cultivation, collection, and extraction procedures, providing insights into pharmaceutical and food product quality monitoring. Scholarly databases were searched to gather relevant information on TC's therapeutic usefulness, phytoconstituent studies, metabolomics, and applications. Pub Chem was used to learn the structures of several of the metabolites. The various medicinal properties of TC were extensively researched. The most essential portions of the plant in Ayurvedic medicines are the stems. Bioactive phytochemicals such as steroidal lactones, alkaloids, diterpenoids, and phenolic compounds are present in the roots and leaves. Metabolomic analysis revealed that, in addition to the season and geographical region of the sample collected, the metabolite profiles of TC also depend on the parts of the plant taken as a sample and also the plant's stage of growth. The amounts of secondary metabolites differed between morpho/chemotypes within the TC species. Despite the fact that research on TC began several decades ago, the diversity of phytoconstituents was not appreciated because of a lack of reliable techniques for phytochemical fingerprinting. The uncovering of several novel metabolites was aided by advances in chromatography combined with mass spectrometry. To produce a full metabolomic profile, researchers used mutually complementary techniques. Following that, data analysis and searches against spectrum databases allowed for signal annotation and interpretation of metabolites in large quantities without separating them separately. The current review includes a critical assessment of metabolomic data and an overview of the technique's various applications. It is vital to establish the metrics of quality control of herbal medicines in order to accomplish formulation purity assessments. Such

Variation in the Flaring Potential of Different Sunspot Groups During Different Phases of Solar Cycles 23 and 24

In this present study,we have analyzed different types of X-ray solar flares(C,M,and X classes)coming out from different classes of sunspot groups(SSGs).The data which we have taken under this study cover the duration of 24 yr from 1996 to 2019.During this,we observed a total of 15015 flares(8417 in SC-23 and 6598 in SC-24)emitted from a total of 33780 active regions(21746 in SC-23 and 12034 in SC-24)with sunspot only.We defined the flaring potential or flare-production potential as the ratio of the total number of flares produced from a particular type of SSG to the total number of the same-class SSGs observed on the solar surface.Here we studied yearly changes in the flaring potential of different McIntosh class groups of sunspots in different phases of SC-23 and 24.In addition,we investigated yearly variations in the potential of producing flares by different SSGs(A,B,C,D,E,F,and H)during different phases(ascending,maximum,descending,and minimum)of SC-23 and 24.These are our findings:(1)D,E,and F SSGs have the potential of producing flares≥8 times greater than A,B,C and H SSGs;(2)The larger and more complex D,E,and F SSGs produced nearly 80%of flares in SC-23 and 24;(3)The A,B,C and H SSGs,which are smaller and simpler,produced only 20%of flares in SC-23 and 24;(4)The biggest and most complex SSGs of F-class have flaring potential 1.996 and 3.443 per SSG in SC-23 and 24,respectively.(5)The potential for producing flares in each SSG is higher in SC-24 than in SC-23,although SC-24 is a weaker cycle than SC-23.(6)The alterations in the number of flares(C+M+X)show different time profiles than the alterations in sunspot numbers during SC-23 and 24,with several peaks.(7)The SSGs of C,D,E,and H-class have the highest flaring potential in the descending phase of both SC-23 and 24.(8)F-class SSGs have the highest flaring potential in the descending phase of SC-23 but also in the maximum phase of SC-24.

Effect of heterogeneity and injection rates on the recovery of oil from conventional sand packs:A simulation approach

The study of flow through porous media has been of cardinal gravity in oil and gas applications like enhanced oil recovery(EOR),acidizing,fracturing,etc.One of the most anticipated apprehensions is that the core flooding and simulation have become prevalent to understand the flow through porous media.This study aims at simulating and analyzing the effect of alkaline surfactant flooding through heterogeneous permeability conditions in the lab-scale methods.The conventional methods of core flood deal with the effective permeability of the system without considering the effect of heterogeneity within the core.The heterogeneous studies are conducted by simulating a finely meshed 2-D axisymmetric model of the sand pack.The novel Karanj oil surfactant extracted from Pongamia Pinnata,and partially hydrolyzed polyacryl amide polymer are considered for the physicochemical properties of displacing fluid used in the simulations.Different heterogeneity combinations and displacing fluid injection flow rates are introduced for a single absolute permeability system.Results indicate a trend of oil recovery upright with increasing vertical permeability.A lower areal sweep efficiency and early breakthrough are observed in models with high horizontal permeabilities.Further,the effect of heterogeneity on oil recovery is reduced with the increase in injection flow rates of displacing fluid.The present work utilizes computational fluid dynamics to model multiphase flow through a heterogeneous permeability media and its effect on oil recovery.

An unusual scrotal mass: Morphological clues

A 21-year-old male presented with complaints of swelling and dragging sensation in the scrotum for 6 months.Local examination revealed a firm 10 cm6 cm4 cm lump with nonpalpable right testis.Overlying skin was free.Ultrasonography showed a mass lesion in the right testicular area with multiple heterogeneous foci and mild increased vascularity,however,without any cystic region and calcification.Right epididymis was also bulky and measured 1.6 cm0.7 cm with heterogeneous texture.

目的探讨质量源于设计(QbD)工具在评估印度5个不同地区余甘子地理变异中的应用。方法在本实验中,采用简化四次模型的Box-Behnken设计,运行105次,结合使用Design Expert软件进行随机响应面映射。本研究使用了三种不同的浸提方法(索氏浸提、浸渍浸提和超声浸提)以及三种溶剂[蒸馏水、甲醇和水-甲醇混合物(50:50 v/v)]。采用气相色谱-质谱法(GC-MS)测定并分析余甘子的抗氧化活性、总黄酮含量(TFC)和总酚含量(TPC),以鉴定其主要成分。结果QbD叠加图显示余甘子的提取值不低于30%w/w,2,2-二苯基-1-三硝基苯肼(DPPH)不低于60%mcg/mL(微克每毫升),TFC不低于75 mg QE/g(毫克槲皮素当量每克干原料),TPC不低于80 mg GAE/g(毫克没食子酸当量每克干原料)。此外,(GC-MS)数据证实了余甘子的生物活性存在变异。结论本研究模型能较好的描述浸提值、DPPH、TFC和TPC的变化。QbD方法可能倾向于在浸提过程中优先考虑彻底性,最终提高浸提产品的质量。
