Microstructure transformations and improving wear resistance of austenitic stainless steel additively fabricated by arc-based DED process

In this study, austenitic stainless steel(ASS) was additively fabricated by an arc-based direct energy deposition(DED) technique. Macrostructure, microstructure, mechanical characteristics at different spatial orientations(0°, 90°, and 45°), and wear characteristics were evaluated at the deposited structure top, middle, and bottom regions. Results show that austenite(γ) and delta-ferrite(δ) phases mak. up most of the microstructure of additively fabricated SS316LSi steel. Within γ matrix, δ phase is dispersed both(within and along) grain boundaries, exhibiting a fine vermicular morphology. The bottom, middle,and top regions of WAAM deposited ASS exhibit similar values to those of wrought SS316L in the tensile and impact test findings. Notably, a drop in hardness values is observed as build height increases. During SEM examinations of fractured surfaces from tensile specimen, closed dimples were observed, indicating good ductility of as-built structure. Wear test findings show signs of mild oxidation and usual adhesive wear. By depositing a mechanically mixed composite layer, an increase in the oxidation percentage was discovered to facilitate healing of worn surfaces. The findings of this study will help in design, production and renovation of products/components that are prone to wear. WAAM-deposited ASS has remark.ble strength and ability to withstand impacts;it can be used in the production of armour plates for defence applications, mainly military vehicles and aircraft.

Pyricularia oryzae anamorph of Magnaporthe oryzae is one of the most notorious fungal pathogens causing severe economic loss in rice production worldwide. Various methods, viz. cultural, biological and molecular approaches, are utilized to counteract this pathogen. Moreover, some tolerant or resistant rice varieties have been developed with the help of breeding programmes. Isolation and molecular characterization of different blast resistance genes now open the gate for new possibilities to elucidate the actual allelic variants of these genes via various molecular breeding and transgenic approaches. However, the behavioral pattern of this fungus break.ps the resistance barriers in the resistant or tolerant rice varieties. This host-pathogen barrier will be possibly countered in future research by comparative genomics data from available genome sequence data of rice and M. oryzae for durable resistance. Present review emphasized fascinating recent updates, new molecular breeding approaches, transgenic and genomics approaches(i.e. mi RNA and genome editing) for the management of blast disease in rice. The updated information will be helpful for the durable, resistance breeding programme in rice against blast pathogen.

The present article deals with filtration of seawater to remove sodium chloride(NaCl)using filter made from organized structures of carbon nanotubes(CNTs).The filter consists of hollow carbon cylinder(length~10 cm,diameter~1 cm),which is composed of radially aligned *** carbon hollow cylinder has been synthesized by continuous spray pyrolysis of ferrocene–benzene solution in argon *** hollow cylinder has been turned into a water filter by closing one end and k.eping a small funnel at the *** of seawater(Marina Beach,Chennai,India)has been obtained both under the self pressure of seawater column in the hollow cylinder and under the difference of pressure created by enclosing the filter in a vacuum tight *** has been found that the efficiency of filtration is about two times higher under partial vacuum(~10–2 torr)created on the filtrate(water)*** filtration of seawater,a deposit in the inner surface of hollow cylinder has been *** deposit has been characterized by X-ray diffraction,transmission electron microscopy and energy dispersive X-ray analysis,and it has been found that the deposit was *** filtration leads to almost complete removal of NaCl from the seawater.

Objectives:The study was conducted to prolong the shelf life of freshly harvested pomegranate fruits and to find out its physiochemical properties during *** and Methods:Pomegranate fruits of variety‘Bhagawa’were stored in 200,300 gauge high-density polyethylene(HDPE)pack.ge,and silicone membrane modified atmospheric storage system at ambient conditions and 10℃.Gas composition inside the pack.ge,texture,color,and overall quality parameters were evaluated at these two storage *** physico-chemical properties such as total soluble solids,titratable acidity,ascorbic acid content,total,reducing,and non-reducing sugars,and physiological loss in weight(PLW)were also ***:In ambient storage,the shelf life of pomegranate fruit was 10 days,whereas in modified atmosphere pack.ging(200 gauge HDPE,300 gauge HDPE,and silicone membrane system),the shelf life of pomegranate fruits was extended up to 60,60,25 days at ambient and 96,96,65 days at 10℃temperature,***:Among the 200,300 gauge HDPE pack.ge,and silicone membrane system treatments T1,T5,and T8,respectively,were found better with respect to all the sensory and quality parameters studied.

Patterns of Chromatin-Modifications Discriminate Different Genomic Features in Arabidopsis

Dynamic regulation and pack.ging of genetic information is achieved by the organization of DNA into chromatin. Nucleosomal core histones, which form the basic repeating unit of chromatin, are subject to various post-translational modifications such as acetylation, methylation, phosphorylation, and ubiquitinylation. These modifications have effects on chromatin structure and, along with DNA methylation, regulate gene *** goal of this study was to determine if patterns in modifications were related to different categories of genomic features, and, if so, if the patterns had predictive value. In this study, we used publically available data（ChIP-chip）for different types of histone modifications（methylation and acetylation） and for DNA methylation for Arabidopsis thaliana and then applied a machine learning based approach（a support vector machine） to demonstrate that patterns of these modifications are very different among different k.nds of genomic feature categories（protein, RNA,pseudogene, and transposon elements）. These patterns can be used to distinguish the types of genomic *** methylation and H3k.me3 methylation emerged as features with most discriminative power. From our analysis on Arabidopsis, we were able to predict 33 novel genomic features, whose existence was also supported by analysis of RNA-seq experiments. In summary, we present a novel approach which can be used to discriminate/detect different categories of genomic features based upon their patterns of chromatin modification and DNA methylation.
