Objective:To identify and compare the existence of similar and other risk factors in the perspective of an Indian ***:It was designed as a case control study and was conducted in the Department of General and Vascular Surgery Unit 2 of Christian Medical College,Vellore,India between the periods July 2003 to June 2005.100 patients with an ABPI< 0.9 and 100 controls were ***:Peripheral arterial disease(PAD) was found to be commoner among males(87%).While atherosclerosis was the commonest aetiology(54%),the incidence of Thromboangiitis Obliterans was also not uncommon(38%).Smoking was the main risk factor in the Indian context(83%) as compared to hypercholesterolemia(60%) in the West. The patients with atherosclerotic PAD were middle-aged and had concomitant diabetes(50%) and hypertension(30%).Conclusions:Peripheral arterial disease occurs in a relatively younger age group in India as compared to their Western *** Obliterans was found to be a significant aetiology for arterial occlusive disease,with smoking as the primary risk factor followed by diabetes,hypertension and hypercholesterolemia.

The augmentation in electricity demand,power system privatization as well as efficacy of renewable resources has paved the way for power system companies and researchers to exploit the field of grid connected distributed generation(DG)and its issues,islanding being a dominant *** research works have been conducted to mitigate the issues of islanding detection(ID).In context of this,the paper gives a comprehensive review of islanding issues,standard test systems,criteria and shifting of research trends in islanding detection methods(IDMs).The significant contributions pertain to categorization of IDMs,evaluation of non-detection zone(NDZ)for each test system,disquisition on evolution and advancement of IDMs and its comparisons based on criteria such as NDZ,run on time,nuisance tripping percentage,applicability in multi DG system and implementation cost to draw out the strength and shortcomings of individual methods that will come to aid to the companies or researchers for establishing the applicability and appropriateness of such method for their concerned domain.

Beneficial bacteria, often used as probiotics, play efficient role in providing protection against pathogenic microorganisms in humans. Probiotic bacteria like many Lactobacillus sp. (L. acidophilus, L. casei etc.), Bafidobacterium sp. Streptococcus thermophiles, Bacillus coagulans, etc. are beneficial and nowadays are used as supportive therapeutics. Even Lactobacillus is highlighted for showing the anticancer effects on some human cancer cells (cervical, gastric, colon, breast cancer). Some specific antibiotics like peptide antibiotic, Acidolin;some specific bacteriocins and some metabolites like H2O2, acetic acid, lactic acid produced by Lactobacillus sp. kill or inhibit other microorganisms mainly gram positive and gram negative bacteria, including both enteropathogens and spore formers. Proteins like Enterolisin A, Labyrintho peptin A2, etc. show promising anti-cancer activities. Lactobacillus has effective role in clinical and industrial fields. Clinically it is used to manufacture medicines, some hormones and industrially used for broad fermentations, etc. Studies are going on to use Lactobacillus in more broad ways, by improving strains, increasing specificity, making more effective and to find out some other characteristics to prepare them as more natural therapeutic modality.

Background:Blumea lacera(Family Asteraceae)is a herb found in the uncultivated lands of many Asian *** plant is used by quack doctors for some medicinal ***:Works presented in this manuscript were conducted on the ethanol extract of aerial parts of *** pharmacological tests like antioxidant,analgesic,anti-inflammatory,antidiarrheal,diuretic,antibacte-rial,anthelmintic and toxicological tests like brine shrimp lethality and acute toxicity were ***:Antioxidant test was conducted by determining secondary metabolites content and DPPH free radical scavenging *** acid-induced writhing method,xylene-induced ear edema method,castor oil-induced diarrheal method,and urinary volume test were performed to evaluate the analgesic,anti-inflammatory,an-tidiarrheal and diuretic effects,*** antibacterial test was performed by disk diffusion method,anthelmintic activity by recording the paralysis and death time of *** and finally,cytotoxic activity was performed by brine shrimp lethality ***:TPC,TFC and TTC contents of *** extract were found to be 9 mg GAE/g,31 mg QE/g and 18 mg GAE/*** SC 50 value of the DPPH radical scavenging assay was found to be higher than 3000μg·mL^(-1).The LD 50 value of *** extract in mice was higher than 5000 mg·kg^(-1).This extract significantly inhibited writhing reflexes by 24.5%and 43.6%and reduced ear edema up to 24.6%and 41%at 250 and 500 mg·kg^(-1) bw doses,*** also increased the latency of the first defecation period up to 52.8 min and 106.6 min as well as decreased the stool count by 34.1%and 48.2%at 250 and 500 mg·kg-1 bw doses,*** also showed an increase in urinary output in the diuretic *** antibacterial activity of *** extract was confirmed by retardation in bacterial growth and significantly killed *** in a dose-dependent *** brine shrimp lethality bioassay,the LC 50 value was found to be 5.4μg·mL-

Dwellings are usually constructed by people as per their respective needs,with the use of traditional *** architectural built form,layout,building materials,and local construction practices vary from one region to the other,depending on the socio cultural and socio-economic *** is essential and crucial to understand the cultural significance in an ever-transforming ***,a study has been attempted to analyze typical characteristics of houses in Krishna district of coastal Andhra *** part of the study process,a few dwellings were selected which have vernacular building components and which underwent transformation(spatial,physical and esthetical)in response to the respective users’changing requirements in time and ***’s attachment to the vernacular components of the present and earlier house was *** qualitative analysis brought out that 25%of houses exhibited transformation in their built-up area while 75%exhibited transformation in terms of its spaces,components such as roof,wall,joinery and *** was also found that the quantum of transformation which had taken place arose from different reasons in isolation and combination such as family structure,change from joint large family to a smaller nuclear family system within the same premises,property subdivision,growth in economic condition,and partial physical deterioration of building *** principal focus of this paper is to understand the degree of people’s attachment or satisfaction level toward vernacular elements and thereby understand the social acceptance of vernacular architecture in a broader perspective.

We propose a flexible white-light system for high-speed visible-light communication(VLC)applications,which consists of a semipolar blue InGaN/GaN single-quantum-well micro-light-emitting diode(LED)on a flexible substrate pumping green CsPbBr3 perovskite quantum-dot(PQD)paper in nanostructure form and red CdSe QD *** highest bandwidth for CsPbBr3 PQD paper,229 MHz,is achieved with a blue micro-LED pumping source and a high data transmission rate of 400 Mbps;this is very promising for VLC *** 817 MHz maximum bandwidth and a 1.5 Gbps transmission speed are attained by the proposed semipolar blue *** proposed flexible white light system and the high-bandwidth PQD paper could pave the way for VLC wearable devices.

Effect of Brassinosteroids on Germination and Seedling Growth of Radish (Raphanus sativusL.) under PEG-6000 Induced Water Stress

Effect of 24-epibrassinolide and 28-homobrassinolide on the germination and seedling growth of radish (Raphanus sativus) subjected to water stress being imposed by 15% (w/v) polyethylene glycol (equivalent to -2.95 bars of osmotic pressure) was studied. Brassinosteroids supplementation reduced the inhibitory effect of water stress on seed germination and seedling growth. The growth stimulation in radish seedlings by brassinosteroids under desiccation stress was associated with elevated levels of nucleic acids and soluble proteins and lowered activities of RNase. The mitigation of osmotic stress imposed by PEG was associated with increased scavenging of reactive oxygen species as reflected in elevated activities of superoxide dismutase, catalase and ascorbate peroxidase. Brassinosteroids also enhanced the accumulation of the osmolyte free proline in radish seedlings challenged with drought stress. The two brassinosteroids also maintained membrane integrity under water deficiency conditions as indicated by lowered lipid peroxidation reflecting in reduced MDA content. The results of present study demonstrate the protective role of brassinosteroids against PEG imposed water stress in radish seedlings.

Optimization of Cultural Condition and Synergistic Effect of Lactose with Carboxymethyl Cellulose on Cellulase Production by Bacillussp. Isolated from Fecal Matter of Elephant (Elephas maximus)

A cellulase producing bacterium (E3 strain) was isolated from fecal matter of elephant and identified as Bacillus sp. using 16S rDNA sequenced based molecular phylogenetic approach. While studying the effect of substrates like Carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC), avicel, starch, maltose, sucrose, glucose, fructose, galactose and lactose on cellulase production, it was found that CMC was best carbon source induced cellulase production followed by lactose in this bacterial strain. A positive synergistic effect of lactose with CMC was also observed with enhancement of 5 - 6 times in cellulase production. The optimum cellulase production was recorded with 1% CMC and 1% lactose when added individually in the Omeliansky’s medium. The results showed that addition lactose with CMC greatly enhances the production and activity of various cellulase enzymes. The optimal fermentation conditions for the biosynthesis of cellulase by this strain were found to be temperature: 37℃, pH 7.0. The nitrogen source NH4Cl at 0.15% was optimum for cellulase production by this bacterium.
