The present paper describes the statistical modeling and optimization of a multistage gas-solid fluidized bed reactor for the control of hazardous pollutants in flue gas. In this work, we study the hydrodynamics of the pressure drop and minimum fluidization velocity. The hydrodynamics of a three-stage fluidized bed are then compared with those for a single-stage unit. It is observed that the total pressure drop over all stages of the three-stage fluidized bed is less than that of an identical single-stage system. However, the minimum fluidization velocity is higher in the single-stage unit. Under identical conditions, the minimum fluidization velocity is highest in the top bed, and lowest in the bottom bed. This signifies that the behavior of solids changes from a well-mixed flow to a plug-flow, with intermediate behavior in the middle bed.

Underground pipelines are prone to damage by corrosion in Taiwan due to the humid climate and the aging and overuse of ***-dig technologies are necessary,as the cities in Taiwan are highly *** methods,including the cured-in-place pipe(cIPP)method,provide an alternative to the new no-dig installation methods,which are comparatively more *** this study,the numerical analysis software ABAQUS was used to simulate straight-line and curved underground pipelines damaged by *** calibration by small-scale physical modeling in the laboratory,numerical models were applied to the analysis of the mechanical behavior of straight-line and curved underground *** analyze the performance of the cIPP rehabilitation method,different scenarios for straight-line and curved pipelines were *** included before-and after-rehabilitation,different internal pressures and surface loading conditions,and different liner deformabilities and pipe-liner interface *** results suggest that the cIPP method can reinforce damaged pipes by reducing stress concentration and differential displacement near the corrosion ***,proper liner thickness,liner material properties,and pipe-liner interface strength are essential for well-designed cIPP rehabilitation.

To promote long-term studies on the distribution and diversity of marine zooplankton in Indian seas,a comprehensive review has been carried out based on the available *** studies in Indian waters started in the early 1900 s,and a plethora of literature has accumulated dealing with various aspects of zooplankton,especially from the Bay of Bengal,Arabian Sea and their associated estuaries and *** this review,a comprehensive description is offered on the species composition and distribution of zooplankton in the Indian *** is given to reflect the existing knowledge on the variations in zooplankton species composition in the Bay of Bengal and Arabian *** emerge as the most dominant component in all of these marine waters,as is the case *** are more diverse in the Bay of Bengal than in Arabian Sea.

The unsteady magnehydrodynamics （MHD） couette flow of an electrically conducting fluid in a rotating system is investigated by taking the Hall and ion-slip currents into consideration. The derived fundamental equations on the assumption of a small magnetic Reynolds number are solved analytically with the well-known Laplace transform technique. The unified closed-form expressions axe obtained for the velocity and the skin friction in the two different cases of the magnetic field being fixed to either the fluid or the moving plate. The effects of various parameters on the velocity and the skin friction axe discussed by graphs. The results reveal that the primary and secondary velocities increase with the Hall current. An increase in the ion-slip paxameter also leads to an increase in the primary velocity but a decrease in the secondary velocity. It is also shown that the combined effect of the rotation, Hall, and ion-slip parameters determines the contribution of the secondary motion in the fluid flow.

The present work shows that the addition of small volume fractions of multi-walled carbon nanotubes （cNTs） to the matrix results in a significant increase in the high-cycle fatigue life. It is proposed that carbon nanotubes tend to inhibit the formation of large cracks by nucleating nano-scale damage zones. In addition, the contribution to energy absorption from the fracture of nanotubes bridging across nano-scale cracks and from nanotube pull-out from the matrix are mechanisms that can improve the fatigue life. An energy-based model was proposed to estimate the additional strain energy absorbed in fatigue. The distributed nanotubes in the matrix appear to both distribute damage as well as inhibit damage propagation resulting in an overall improvement in the fatigue strength of glass fiber composites.

countries that have made the health transition from a communicable disease base to a non communicable disease base find themselves gripped in an epidemic of wealth created diseases mediated by altered macronutrient intakes, energy intakes and reduction in physical activity. Avoiding the negative impact of the nutrition transition while accepting the positive aspects of the wealth transition can best be achieved by focussing on publicising the benefits of a low fat diet in the context of an active lifestyle. How this is achieved should reflect ecologically sound food production appropriate to national needs. countries that achieve this will be in the best position to capitalize on the reduction in communicable disease rates without causing a rise in non communicable disease rates.

Discrete element modeling requires the proper quantification of the behavior of grains at their contacts including the normal force-displacement and tangential force-displacement relationships to be used as input for contact modeling *** paper reports on recent advances in soil mechanics experimentation which allowed measuring the grain contact behavior of small sand particles quantifying friction and stiffness with sliding tests of a force-controlled or displacement-controlled *** particular focus of this work is on the micromechanical behavior of quartz type grains of size between about 1 and 5 mm.A description of the developed micromechanical apparatus at city University of Hong kong is first discussed and its important different capabilities with previously developed apparatus is briefly ***,a limited set of new data is reported and discussed along with a review of recently acquired results published in the literature associated with the contact behavior of quartz sand *** sliding tests have covered a wider range of normal contact forces from about 0.5 to 8 N,and the results indicated that,for this range of confining forces,there is not any notable change of the inter-particle coefficient of friction.

In this study,2~5 （five factors at two-level factorial design） design of experiment was applied to investigate a set of optimal machining parameters to achieve a minimum surface roughness value for Abies *** specimens were prepared using different values of spindle speed,feed rate,depth of cut,tool radius,and cutting *** surface roughness （R_z） values were applied using a *** objectives were to：（1）obtain the effective variables of wood surface roughness;（2） analyze which of these factors had an impact on variability in the cNc machining process;（3） evaluate the optimal cutting values within the range of different cutting levels of machining *** results indicate that the design of experiment（DOE） based on the desirability function approach determined the optimal machining parameters successfully,leading to minimum R_a compared to the observed *** surface roughness values of tangential and radial cutting directions were 3.58 and 3.21 μm,respectively.

A generalized large-signal computer simulation program for a Gunn oscillator has been developed. The properties of a Gunn diode oscillator based on the widely explored GaN, are investigated using the developed program. The results show some interesting properties in GaN Gunn diodes which are not seen in GaAs and InP diodes. An output power of 1400 kW/cm^2 is achieved from the GaN Gunn diode, as compared to 4.9 kW/cm^2 from a GaAs diode.
