“I Want to Feel That I Live in China”:Imaginaries and hospitality in International Students’(mis-)Encounters at a Top Chinese University

Research on international students’experiences abroad has tended to rely on models of adjustment,integration and/or acculturation to describe their(mis-)encounters with different kinds of people(e.g.,co-nationals,locals and other international students).This paper proposes to use the more fluid concepts of imaginaries and hospitality,leaving behind stages and phases of adaption and acculturation,and focusing on the influence of the Structure on their *** on a discursive pragmatic analysis of interview data with 20 international students at a top Chinese university,the authors review how the students describe the kind of hospitality experienced at this institution and the influence that it has on their(mis-)***,differentialist and essentialist imaginaries(static and fixed views of Chineseness)are often used to justify the lack of encounters and the“segregation”and somewhat“positive discrimination”that they ***,the paper shows that,amongst others,the institutional hospitality management for international students leads to closed contexts of encounters and feelings of *** the study serves as a case study and cannot be generalized to the many and varied experiences of international students in other universities in China,some recommendations are made to solve,at least in part,misconceptions about what interculturality and hospitality entail in the internationalization of higher education.

Optimization of Distributed Solar Photovoltaic Power Generation in Day-ahead Electricity Market Incorporating Irradiance Uncertainty

This paper proposes a simple and practical approach to model the uncertainty of solar irradiance and determines the optimized day-ahead(DA)schedule of electricity *** problem formulation incorporates the power output of distributed solar photovoltaic generator(DSPVG)and forecasted load demands with a specified level of *** proposed approach determines the certainty levels of the random variables(solar irradiance and forecasted load demand)from their probability density function *** this process of optimization,the energy storage system(ESS)has also been mod-eled based on the fact that the energy stored during low locational marginal price(LMP)periods and dispatched during high LMP periods would strengthen the economy of DA *** objective of the formulated non-linear optimization problem is to maximize the social welfare of market participants,which incorporates the assured generation outputs of DSPVG,subject to real and reactive power balance and transmission capability constraints of the system and charging/dis-charging and energy storage constraints of *** simulation has been performed on the Indian utility 62-bus *** results are presented with a large number of cases to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed approach for the efficient,economic and reliable operation of DA electricity markets.

Levy Flight Firefly Based Efficient Resource Allocation for Fog Environment

Fog computing is an emergent and powerful computing paradigm to serve latency-sensitive applications by executing internet of things(IoT)appli-cations in the proximity of the *** computing offers computational and storage services between cloud and terminal ***,an efficient resource allocation to execute the IoT applications in a fog environment is still challenging due to limited resource availability and low delay requirement of services.A large number of heterogeneous shareable resources makes fog computing a complex *** the sight of these issues,this paper has proposed an efficient levy flight firefly-based resource allocation *** levy flight algorithm is a metaheuristic *** offers high efficiency and success rate because of its longer step length and fast convergence ***,it treats global optimization problems more efficiently and naturally.A system framework for fog computing is presented,followed by the proposed resource allocation scheme in the fog computing *** evaluation and comparison with the firefly algorithm(FA),particle swarm optimization(PSO),genetic algorithm(GA)and hybrid algorithm using GA and PSO(GAPSO)have been conducted to validate the effectiveness and efficiency of the proposed *** results show that the proposed algorithm performs efficient resource allocation and improves the quality of service(QoS).The proposed algorithm reduces average waiting time,average execution time,average turnaround time,processing cost and energy consumption and increases resource utilization and task success rate compared to FA,GAPSO,PSO and GA.

X-Ray Diffraction Study of Plasma Exposed and Annealed AlSb Bilayer Thin Film

Aluminum antimony seems to be a promising semiconducting material for high temperature applications, especially for transistors and P-N junction diodes. Additionally, it is a highly efficient solar material. This paper discusses the plasma induced bilayer diffusion of A1Sb bilayer thin films using X-ray diffractogram. A1Sb bilayer thin films were prepared on a glass substrate by vacuum evaporation technique. The effect of plasma exposure time and annealing temperature on the micro-structural parameters were investigated. X-ray diffraction studies show that the cubic crystals of A1 orient along the （111） plane and the hexagonal crystals of Sb orient along the （003） plane. Newly formed cubic crystals of A1Sb are oriented along the （200） plane and they are formed due to the simultaneous growth of A1 and Sb crystals during plasma exposure.

Simulation of old open clusters for UVIT on ASTROSAT

The Ultra Violet Imaging Telescope （UVIT） is one of the payloads on the first Indian multiwavelength satellite ASTROSAT, which is expected to be launched by the Indian Space Research Organisation （ISRO） in the year 2015. We have per- formed simulations of UV studies of old open clusters for the UVIT. The colour mag- nitude diagrams （CMDs） and spatial appearances have been created using 10 filters associated with the FUV channel （130-180 nm） and NUV channel （200-300 nm） that are available for observations on the UVIT, for the three old open clusters M67, NGC 188 and NGC 6791. The CMDs are simulated for different filter combinations, and they are used to identify the loci of various evolutionary sequences, white dwarfs, blue stragglers, red giants, subgiants, turn off stars and the main sequence of the clus- ters. The present work helps in identifying a potential area of study in the case of these three old open clusters by considering the availability of filters and the detection limits of the instrument. We also recommend filter combinations, which can be used to detect and study the above mentioned evolutionary stages. The simulations and the results presented here are essential for the optimal use of the UVIT for studies of old open clusters.

Correlates of first dose of measles vaccination delivery and uptake in Indonesia

Salt Tolerance Mechanisms and Approaches:Future Scope of halotolerant Genes and Rice Landraces

All rice plant developmental stages are severely affected by soil salinity. Salinity-induced ionic and osmotic stresses affect stomata closure and gaseous exchange, and reduce transpiration and the rate of carbon assimilation, and hence decrease plant yield. Understanding the response of rice plants toward salinity stress at the genetic level and developing salt-tolerant varieties are the vital mandates for its effective management. This review described the present status of salt-tolerance achieved in rice by various mechanisms including the ion homeostasis(Na^+/h^+, OsNhX antiporters), compatible organic solutes(glycine betaine and proline), antioxidative genes(OsECS, OsVTE1, OsAPX and OsMSRA4.1), salt responsive regulatory elements(transcription factors, cis-acting elements and miRNAs) and genes ecoding protein kinases(MAPKs, SAPKs and STrks). Further, the future perspective of developing salt-tolerant varieties lies in exploring halotolerant gene homologs from rice varieties, especially the landraces. Genetic diversity among rice landraces can serve as a valuable resource for future studies toward variety improvement through breeding and genome editing. Further, identification, multiplication, preservation and utilization of biodiversity among landraces are the urgent buffers to be saved as a heritage for future generations to come.

Experimental investigation into transient pressure pulses during pneumatic conveying of fine powders using Shannon entropy

This paper presents the results of an ongoing investigation into transient pressure pulses using Shan- non entropy. Pressure fluctuations （produced by gas-solid two-phase flow during fluidized dense-phase conveying） are recorded by pressure transducers installed at strategic locations along a pipeline. This work validates previous work on identifying the flow mode from pressure signals （Mittal, Mallick, ＆ Wypych, 2014）. Two different powders, namely fly ash （median particle diameter 45 μm, particle den- sity 1950 kg/m3. loosely poured bulk density 950 kg/m3） and cement （median particle diameter 15 p,m, particle density 3060 kg/m3, loosely poured bulk density 1070 kg/m3）, are conveyed through different pipelines （51 mm I.D. × 70 m length and 63 mm I.D. × 24 m length）. The transient nature of pressure fluc- tuations （instead of steady-state behavior） is considered in investigating flow characteristics. Shannon entropy is found to increase along straight pipe sections for both solids and both pipelines. however, Shannon entropy decreases after a bend. A comparison of Shannon entropy among different ranges of superficial air velocity reveals that high Shannon entropy corresponds to very low velocities （i.e. 3-5 m/s） and very high velocities （i.e. 11-14 m/s） while low Shannon entropy corresponds to mid-range velocities （i.e. 6-8 m/s）.
