Aims The aim of this paper is to assess morphological and leaf stoichiometric responses of Dendrosenecio keniensis and Lobelia gregoriana to extreme environmental conditions along an elevation gradient in tropical *** In this study,we assessed the variation of the morphological traits,including plant height,leaf area,leaf thickness,leaf dry weight,specific leaf area and the leaf stoichiometry traits nitrogen,carbon and phosphorous of the two endemic species *** and *** further explored the relations of these morphological traits to soil organic carbon,soil total nitrogen,soil phosphorous,annual mean temperature,annual mean precipitation,annual total solar radiation,water vapor pressure and the topographic variables aspect,slope and hill shade along the elevation *** 10 m×10 m sampling plots were set up along the elevation gradient ranging from 3500 to 4300 *** used 1 km×1 km grid cells to rasterize our study area in ArcGIS 10.5 for easy access to data pertaining to the climate of each elevation *** performed linear regression of the morphological and leaf stoichiometric traits with elevation as explanatory *** conducted correlation analysis on the morphological and leaf stoichiometric traits with climatic,soil and topographic variables along the elevation *** Findings Dendrosenecio keniensis had wool-like pubescent leaves while *** had mucilage packed succulent and waxy cuticle leaves to avoid *** species exhibited reduced metabolic rates as shown by the low leaf phosphorous *** results also showed that changes in morphology and leaf stoichiometry were determined by a combination of climate,soil and topographic variables that change along elevation on Mount *** observed variations in the morphological and leaf stoichiometric traits of *** and ***,which grow side by side along the elevation gradient,were interpreted as adaptation to the harsh en

Optimizing extractants selection for efficient separation of phenols and nitrogen-containing heteroaromatics using hydrogen bond interaction strategies

Focusing on the use of imidazolium ionic liquids and quaternary ammonium salts-based deep eutectic solvents for the separation of phenols and nitrogen-containing heteroaromatics,the role of heteroaromatics as specific sites for hydrogen bond-based separation has been *** environmentally friendly solvents are known for their ability to form hydrogen bonds with heteroatoms,a key aspect in separation *** quantified the hydrogen bond interaction energy to reach the threshold energy for efficient O-and n-heteroaromatics *** article provides an in-depth study of the structural nuances of different hydrogen bonding sites and their affinity properties while conducting a comparative evaluation of the separation efficiency of ionic liquids and deep eutectic solvents from a thermodynamic *** showed that phenols with dual hydrogen bonding recognition sites were easier to separate than nitrogen-containing *** ionic liquids were more suitable for the extraction of nonbasic nitrogen-containing heteroaromatics,and quaternary ammonium salts-based deep eutectic solvents are more effective for phenols and basic nitrogen-containing heteroaromatics,which was confirmed by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and empirical ***,this study provides a theoretical basis for the strategy design and selection of extractants for the efficient separation of O-and n-containing aromatic compounds.

This study investigates the influence of electropolymerization conditions on the deposition of polypyrrole(PPy)onto cotton-derived carbon fiber(CF)modified with reduced graphene oxide(rGO)for supercapacitors applications using an experimental/theorical *** surface modification of CF by rGO and/or by PPy electrodeposited at 10,25 and 50 mV s^(-1) was thoroughly examined physicochemical and *** electrodes comprising CF-rGo-PPy,synthesized via electropolymerization at 25 mV s^(-1),demonstrated a remarkable increase in capacitance,showcasing~742 F g^(-1) compared to 153 F g^(-1) for ***,n_(2)-surface area,XPS,and TD-DFT approach revealed that the higher capacitance observed in CF-rGo-PPy electrodes underscores the influence of morphology and charged nitrogen species on the electrochemical performance of these modified ***,this electrode material achieves a specific capacitance retention of~96%of their initial capacitance after 10000 cycles at 0.5 A g^(-1) measured in a two-electrodes cell *** work also discusses the influence of the scan rate used for pyrrole electropolymerization on the pseudocapacitance contribution of PPy and its possible effect on the porosity of the *** results highlight the importance of appropriate electropolymerization conditions that allow obtaining the synergistic effect between CF,rGO and PPy.

Heterosis effect for larval performance of fall armyworm interstrain hybrids

Spodoptera frugiperda,also known as fall armyworm(FAW),is an invasive crop pest that can feed on a variety of host plants,posing a serious threat to food *** are two sympatric strains of FAW that are morphologically identical but described with different food preferences:the“rice strain”(SfR)and the“corn strain”(SfC).A few genetic loci exist to identify these two *** and Z-chromosome-linked haplotypes are the most used,but the biggest part of the genome displays little polymorphism between strains that could explain their adaptation to different *** have previously observed consistent transcription differences between the strains in both laboratory and natural ***,we wonder if there are effects from host-strain-associated loci,maternally or paternally inherited,on FAW performance that could explain the divergence between the two FAW *** test this hypothesis,we first produced two F1 hybrid generations(SfR♀×SfC♂,SfC♀×SfR♂).These reciprocal hybrids should be heterozygous for all chromosomes except for the maternally inherited mitochondrial and sexual W *** evaluate whether plant preference is determined by these genetic loci,we cultivated the two hybrids and the two parental strains in triplicate on an artificial diet and recorded several phenotypic traits such as weight over time,survival rate,emerging rate,developmental time,and sex ***,the same performance experiment was carried out on corn ***,on the artificial diet,the two hybrid genotypes were both more performant than the two parental strains in terms of survival rate,pupal emerging rate,and developmental time,whereas they were intermediate to the inbred parental strains in pupal *** the corn plant diet,both hybrid genotypes outperformed the two parental strains in larval *** these asymmetrical results revealed that mitochondrial or sex-linked haplotypes alone cannot explain the performance differences

Inhibition of retroviral Gag assembly by non-silencing miRnAs promotes autophagic viral degradation

We recently reported an unconventional mechanism by which miRnAs inhibit HIV-1 viral production. This occurs when miRnAs bind nonspecifically to the viral structural protein Gag, interfering with viral RnA-medi- ated Gag assembly at the plasma membrane. Conse- quently, misassembled viral complexes are redirected into the endocytic pathway where they are delivered to lysosomes for degradation. In this study, we demon- strate that autophagy is a critical mediator of the viral degradation pathway and that this pathway is not HIV-1 specific. Misassembled viral complexes were found to colocalize extensively with LC3 and p62 in late endo- somesllysosomes, demonstrating a convergence of autophagy with functional degradative compartments. Knocking down autophagosome formation machineries reduced this convergence, while treatment with autop- hagy-inducer rapamycin enhanced the convergence. Furthermore, similar autophagy-dependent nonspecific miRnA inhibition of murine leukemia virus （MLV） assembly was shown. Overall, these results reveal autophagy as a crucial regulator of the retroviral degradation pathway in host cells initiated by non- specific miRnA-Gag interactions. These findings could have significant implications for understanding how cells may regulate retroviral complex assembly by miRnA expression and autophagy, and raise the possi- bility that similar regulations can occur in other biolog- ical contexts.

African Cassava Whitefly,Bemisia tabaci,Resistance in African and South American Cassava Genotypes

The whitefly,Bemisia tabaci,is a major pest of cassava,particularly in Africa where it is responsible both for the transmission of plant viruses and,increasingly,for direct damage due to feeding by high *** date,there have been no practical solutions to combat this emerging problem,due to the inability of the subsistence farmers that grow cassava to afford expensive inputs such as insecticides.A programme of research was carried out linking institutes in Africa,the UK and South America,to identify possible resistance sources in cassava to the whitefly,Bemisia *** South American genotype MEcu 72 and several Ugandan cassava landraces including Ofumba Chai,nabwire 1 and Mercury showed good levels of resistance to *** and screen-house experiments showed that all of the improved,high-yielding cassava mosaic disease（CMD）resistant cassava genotypes assessed were highly susceptible to *** and supported high populations of all life *** data support the hypothesis that the continuing high populations of cassava *** in Uganda are due,in part,to the widespread adoption of CMD-resistant cassava varieties during the CMD *** also show that the whitefly,Aleurotrachelus socialis,resistance present in the South American cassava genotypes could have broader applicability in the Old World.

An Unsupervised Feature Selection Algorithm with Feature Ranking for Maximizing Performance of the Classifiers

Prediction plays a vital role in decision making. Correct prediction leads to right decision making to save the life, energy,efforts, money and time. The right decision prevents physical and material losses and it is practiced in all the fields including medical,finance, environmental studies, engineering and emerging technologies. Prediction is carried out by a model called classifier. The predictive accuracy of the classifier highly depends on the training datasets utilized for training the classifier. The irrelevant and redundant features of the training dataset reduce the accuracy of the classifier. Hence, the irrelevant and redundant features must be removed from the training dataset through the process known as feature selection. This paper proposes a feature selection algorithm namely unsupervised learning with ranking based feature selection(FSULR). It removes redundant features by clustering and eliminates irrelevant features by statistical measures to select the most significant features from the training dataset. The performance of this proposed algorithm is compared with the other seven feature selection algorithms by well known classifiers namely naive Bayes(nB),instance based(IB1) and tree based J48. Experimental results show that the proposed algorithm yields better prediction accuracy for classifiers.

Green Method, Optical and Structural Characterization of ZnO nanoparticles Synthesized Using Leaves Extract of M. oleifera

ZnO nanoparticles(ZnO-nP)present innovative optical,electrical,and magnetic properties that depend on spe-cific characteristics,e.g.,size,distribution,and ***,these properties are essential to address various applications in areas such as electronics,medicine,energy,and *** addition,the performance of this ZnO-nP depends of their preparation which can be done by chemical,physical,and biological ***,nowadays,the main interest in developing ZnO-nP synthesis through biological methods bases on the decrease of use of toxic chemicals or energy applied to the procedures,making the process more cost-effective and environ-mentally ***,the large-scale production of nanoparticles by green synthesis remains a big challenge due to the complexity of the biological extracts used in chemical *** being the case,the preparation of ZnO-nP using Moringa oleifera extract as an alternative biological agent for capping and reduction in synthesis was evaluated in this ***,the results based on the analysis of the optical and structural characterization of the ZnO-nP obtained by employing UV-Vis,DLS,zeta potential,XRD,ATR-FTIR,and FE-SEM indicate mostly the presence of spherical nanosized material with a mean hydrodynamic diameter of 47.2 nm measured by DLS and a mean size diameter of 25 nm observed with FE-SEM ***,in FE-SEM images a homo-geneous dispersion and distribution is observed in the absence of agglutination,agglomeration,or generation of significant lumps of the *** XRD analysis showed that heat annealing induced the crystallite size favor-ing their *** obtained data confirm the synthesis of ZnO-nP and the absence of impurities associated with organic compounds in the annealed ***,those results and low-cost production pre-sent to the synthesized ZnO-nP by this biological method as a useful material in several applications.

An Exploration of the Predictors of Relationship Status with a Caveat on Interpretation

Using the Puerto Rican Maternal and Infant Health Study dataset (PRMIHS), the predictors of relationship status were examined via probit regression. The strongest predictors of relationship status found were interactions between bi-nary variables for the age that a respondent first had sexual intercourse and for the age that a respondent first entered into a union (n = 1452). This paper con-cludes by arguing that the results provide support for viewing union status as being primarily dependent on the people involved in the union instead of being primarily dependent on factors external to the people themselves.
