Molecular mechanics-based finite element analysis of graphene sheet and carbon nanotubes using the rebo potential

Molecular mechanics-based finite element(FE)models of graphene sheet and singlewalled zigzag and armchair carbon nanotubes(CNTs)are developed on the basis of the assumption that the carbon nanostructures,when loaded,behave like frame *** behavior of carbon–carbon bonds,which are represented by beam elements,is simulated using the many-body second generation reactive empirical bond order(REBO)*** means of the FE models,the tensile behavior of carbon nanostructures is *** FE models are verified against molecular dynamics *** computed results in terms of tensile stress–strain curves and fracture patterns are compared with results obtained using the pairwise modified-Morse *** tensile properties and fracture patterns are predicted using the two *** is mainly attributed to the deviations in the force–bond length curves and to the contribution of bond angle variation which is present in *** present work is the first attempt to implement the REBO potential into a continuum model of carbon nanostructures and paves the way for a more systematic incorporation of atomistic simulation methods into continuum models.

Background:The recent rise in temperature and shifting precipitation regimes threaten ecosystems around the globe to different *** are expected to respond to climate warming by shifting to higher elevations,but it is unclear whether they can track temperature ***,we integrated high-resolution aerial imagery with local climatic and topographic characteristics to study the treeline dynamic from 1945 to 2015 on the semiarid Mediterranean island of Crete,***:During the study period,the mean annual temperature at the treeline increased by 0.81℃,while the average precipitation decreased by 170 *** treeline is characterized by a diffuse form,with trees growing on steep limestone slopes(>50°)and shallow ***,the treeline elevation decreases with increasing distance from the coast and with aspect(south>north).Yet,we found no shift in the treeline over the past 70 years,despite an increase in temperature in all four study ***,the treeline elevation correlated strongly with topographic exposure to wind(R^(2)=0.74,p<0.001).Therefore,the temporal lag in treeline response to warming could be explained by a combination of topographic and microclimatic factors,such as the absence of a shelter effect and a decrease in ***:Although there was no treeline shift over the last 70 years,climate change has already started shifting the treeline altitudinal ***,the lack of climate-mediated migration at the treeline should raise concerns about the threats posed by warming,such as drought damages,and wildfire,especially in the Mediterranean ***,conservation management should discuss options and needs to support adaptive management.

Using an analogy between finance and astrophysics,this study aims to investigate whether there exists a mechanism that can describe the explosive increase in the number of traded cryptocurrencies and the cryptocurrency market in *** physics,the Schwarzschild radius indicates that black holes are constantly expanding because of their mass *** this analogy,we consider the cryptocurrency market as a self-gravitational body whose mass is denoted by(1)the number of traded cryptocurrencies and(2)in terms of increasing market capitalization for a given number of traded *** analyzing weekly snapshot data of all traded cryptocurrencies from January 4,2009,to June 14,2020,we find evidence that the above-mentioned mechanism *** results clearly indicate the self-gravitational property of the cryptocurrency market,which is direct evidence toward the hypothesis that the changes in the traded cryptocurrencies are a positive function of the previous period’s number of traded cryptocurrencies.

We consider the class of affine LIBOR models with multiple curves,which is an analytically tractable class of discrete tenor models that easily accommodates positive or negative interest rates and positive *** introducing an interpolat-ing function,we extend the affine LIBOR models to a continuous tenor and derive expressions for the instantaneous forward rate and the short *** show that the continuous tenor model is arbitrage-free,that the analytical tractability is retained under the spot martingale measure,and that under mild conditions an interpolating function can be found such that the extended model fits any initial forward *** allows us to compute value adjustments(***)consistently,by solving the corresponding‘pre-default’*** an application,we compute the price and value adjustments for a basis swap,and study the model risk associated to different interpolating functions.

Unmanned Remotely Operated Vehicles(ROVs)are widely used in safety-critical missions,spanning across monitoring,surveillance,and search and rescue *** most cases,the human operator controls the ROV under stressful conditions and in harsh *** physical and mental states of the operator are vital as they may cause involuntary movements,issuing unintentional commands due to fatigue or ***,a joint monitoring mechanism that will assess the operator's commands can be beneficial in preventing potentially catastrophic events,such as *** this end,in this study,we propose a data collection framework for creating a fused dataset,consisting of data obtained from both the human operator and the ROV,and we integrate stress induction to stimulate stress and fatigue that may affect operators during *** optimise the dataset,which includes the operator's physiological signals and inertial measurement unit(IMU)sensor data from the ROV,using data fusion approaches and feature *** evaluate the dataset through the statistical analysis,illustrating a statistical difference between data characterising normal and involuntary ***,we evaluate the optimised and original datasets over a variety of classifiers,demonstrating an accuracy of 94%and 95%,respectively.

Blockchains and smart contracts are gaining momentum as enabling technologies for a wide set of applications where data distribution and sharing among decentralized infrastructures is *** this work,we present a distributed application developed using blockchain technologies that allows individuals and health insurance organizations to come into agreement during the implementation of the healthcare insurance policies in each *** this purpose,health standards and semantic web technologies were used for the formal expression of both the insured individual's data and contract ***,a fine-grained data access policy was applied for evaluating contract terms on the basis of relevant data captured in healthcare settings.A prototype was implemented involving the development of several different smart contracts for the Ethereum platform as well as the necessary visual environment for accessing *** developed system validates various features related to blockchain and smart contract features that are briefly discussed in this work,part of which can be mitigated or resolved through the use of a private permissioned *** application of well-established techniques for potential malfunctions of external services could also boost the security of the system and prevent it from potential attacks.

This essay constitutes an unorthodox response to Ranjan Ghosh and *** Miller's Thinking Literature Across Continents:instead of attempting to conventionally engage with a text that challenges the idea of any unitary totality as a whole,I opt instead to dwell on the interplay between language and silence in three different sites of inquiry within the text:the first concerns the question of hunger,for which I take as my starting point Ghosh's own starting point in the first chapter of the book,namely Rabidranath Tagore's reflections on a brief episode on the river Ganges.I excavate the transcontinental provenance of these reflections for western,particularly Kantian,aesthetics before I focus on two aspects within the episode that such a framing misses or remains silent about:the paradoxical tendency of material satiation to demote the importance of hunger(as paradigmatically exposed in Brecht);and the indeterminacy of the kind of hunger that is involved in the boatman's response within Tagore's text(as evidenced by prehistoric cave paintings).Finally,I demonstrate the importance of taking these complications into account when reading Ghosh’s own extensive interest in foregrounding hunger within the literary phenomenon and its hermeneutic *** the second part of the essay,I dwell on Ghosh’s critique of prevailing notions of“world literature”in the fifth chapter of the book by demonstrating the ontological(Heideggerian)rather than empirical meaning of world in his writing,and,by extension,the subtractive and absence-centered meaning of what he calls the“more than global.”Finally,I turn to *** Miller’s reading of Wallace Stevens’s“The Motive for Metaphor”in the fourth chapter as an exemplary site for the exploration of the interface between poetics,hermeneutics and ontology that is central to Ghosh's theory of the literary,and thus serves to highlight,in Miller's very engagement with the failure of language as an issue of concern in the poem,the possibi
