Effect of even and odd-order aberrations on the accommodation response

AIM： To investigate the potential effect that odd and even-order monochromatic aberrations may have on the accommodation response of the human eye. METHODS： Eight healthy subjects with astigmatism below 1 D, best corrected visual acuity 20/20 or better and normal findings in an ophthalmic examination were enrolled. An adaptive optics system was used in order to measure the accommodation response of the subjects＇ eyes under different conditions： with the natural aber- rations being present, and with the odd and even-order aberrations being corrected. Three measurements of accommodation response were monocularly acquired at accommodation demands ranging from 0 to 4 D （0.5 D step）. RESULTS： The accommodative lag was greater for the accommodate demands of 1.5, 3, 3.5 and 4 D for the condition in which the even-order aberrations were corrected, in comparison to that obtained for the natural aberrations and corrected odd-order aberrations for the same accommodation demands. No statistically significant differences were found between the accommodation responses under the three conditions. CONCLUSION： The odd and even-order aberrations are not helping the visual system to accommodate, because their partial correction do not affect the accommodation performance.

Crop growth in greenhouses is basically determined by the climate variables in the environment and by the amounts of water and fertilizers supplied by *** management of these factors depends on the expertise of agricultural technicians and farmers,usually assisted by control systems installed within the *** this context,decision support features enable us to incorporate invaluable human experience so thatwe can take quick and effective decisions to ensure efficient crop *** work describes a real-time decision support system for greenhouse tomatoes that supports decisions at three stages–the supervision stage identifies climate sensor faults,the control stage maintains climate variables at setpoints,and the strategic stage identifies diseases affecting the crop and changes climate variables accordingly to minimize *** DSS was implemented by integrating a real-time rule-based tool into the control *** results show that the system increases climate control effectiveness,while providing support in preventing diseaseswhich are difficult to *** system was tested by simulating the appearance of the disease and observing the real *** main contribution has been to demonstrate that production rules,which aremature and well-known in the artificial intelligence domain,can act as a shared technology for the whole *** means that fault detection,temperature control and disease monitoring features are not dealt with in isolation.

Nothofagus alessandrii forests in the Mediterranean region of Chile face significant threats from deforestation, fragmentation, wildfires, and climate change. This study investigated the temporal and spatial dynamics of N. alessandrii populations and their implications for habitat fragmentation and connectivity. Using remote sensing data and geographic information system analysis, we assessed deforestation patterns, fragmentation metrics, and connectivity indices for different scenarios between 2009 and 2022. A reduction in the N. alessandrii forest area, extensive fragmentation, and decreased connectivity were observed over time, with wildfires exacerbating these trends. Reforestation simulations showed the potential of targeted restoration efforts to improve connectivity, especially when focusing on proximate patches. However, careful consideration of seed dispersal distances and wildfire risk is essential for effective reforestation planning. Overall, our findings underscore the urgent need for conservation interventions to preserve N. alessandrii forests and their biodiversity in Chile's coastal mountain ecosystems. A proactive and collaborative approach is essential to ensure the survival of these forests for future generations.

Student recreational facilities at higher education institutions are increasingly utilizing green building strategies to decrease their impact on the campus environment and to increase economic and social impacts on the *** nearly two decades of LEED building development,comparative studies of LEED strategies among buildings are not rare,but still in demand due to the lessons learned from other LEED certified *** paper presents case studies on the green building strategies utilized for six student recreational facilities certified by the *** Building Council’s Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design rating system and examines favorable strategies that lead to the success of obtaining higher rating *** comparative analysis results showed that the energy and atmosphere and indoor environmental quality categories that utilized energy performance optimization and innovative architectural designs for better daylights and views were major components for higher rating levels apart from conventional design criteria such as location,climate,and *** recreational facilities having higher ratings were more favorable in obtaining credits using central plants,stormwater design,innovative wastewater technologies,and light *** findings not only provide specific green buildings strategies for student recreational facilities,but they also enhance the green initiatives for future education facilities on university campuses.

Cysticercosis is a frequent parasitic infection of the nervous system that occurs when humans become intermediate hosts of the pork tapeworm Taenia solium (T. solium), after ingesting its eggs. The disease is usually transmitted person-to-person, from Taenia carriers to healthy individuals, through non-hygienic handling of food or by direct contact with human feces. Ingestion of undercooked pork contaminated with cysticerci as the cause of human cysticercosis is a common misconception, since the role of pigs is to maintain the infection cycle by causing human taeniasis.
