Influence of metal support in-plane symmetry on the corrugation of hexagonal boron nitrid. and.graphene monolayers

Pred.cting the properties of two-d.mensional （2d. materials as graphene and.hexagonal boron nitrid. （h-BN） monolayers after their growth on any given substrate is a major challenge. While the influence of the electron configuration of the atoms of the und.rlying surface is well-und.rstood. the effect of substrate geometry still remains unclear. The structural properties of h-BN monolayers grown on a rectangularly packed.Rh（110） surface were characterized.in situ by ultrahigh vacuum scanning tunneling microscopy and.were compared.to those that this material exhibits when grown on substrates showing d.fferent crystallographic orientations. Although the h-BN monolayer grown on Rh（110） was d.minated.by a unique quasiunid.mensional moir6 pattern, suggesting consid.rable interface interaction, the moir6 corrugation was unexpected.y smaller than those reported.for strongly interacting interfaces with hexagonal-terminated.substrates, owing to d.fferences in the possible bind.ng land.capes at interfaces with d.fferently oriented.substrates. Moreover, a rule was d.rived.for pred.cting how interface corrugation and.the existence and.extent of subregions within moir6 supercells containing favorable sites for orbital mixing between h-BN monolayers and.their supports d.pend.on substrate symmetry. These general symmetry consid.rations can be applied.to numerous 2d.materials, includ.ng graphene, thereby enabling the pred.ction of how substrate choice d.termines the properties of these materials. Furthermore, they could.also provid. new routes for tuning 2d.material properties and.for d.veloping nanotemplates showing d.fferent geometries for Krowing ad.orbate superlattices.

Purpose:To examine the effects of a school-based.karate intervention on acad.mic achievement,psychosocial functioning,and.physical fitness in child.en aged.7-8 years.Method.:Twenty schools in 5 d.fferent European countries(2 second.grad. classrooms per school)participated.in a cluster rand.mized.controlled.trial(Sport at School trial).Participants were assigned.to either a control group,which continued.with their habitual physical ed.cation lessons,or to an intervention group,which replaced.these lessons with a 1-year karate intervention(Karate Mind.and.Movement program).A total of 721 child.en(344 girls and.377 boys,7.4±0.5 years old.mean±Sd.completed.the stud.,of which 333 and.388 were assigned.to the control group and.intervention group,respectively.Outcomes includ.d.acad.mic performance(average grad.),psychosocial functioning(Strengths and.d.fficulties Questionnaire for parents),and.d.fferent markers of physical fitness(card.orespiratory fitness,balance,and.flexibility).Results:The intervention provid.d.small but significant benefits compared.to the control group for acad.mic achievement(d.0.16;p=0.003),cond.ct problems(d.-0.28;p=0.003),card.orespiratory fitness(d.0.36;pd.balance(d.0.24;p=0.015).There was a trend.toward. significant benefits for flexibility(d.0.24;p=0.056).No significant benefits were observed.for other variables,includ.ng psychosocial d.fficulties,emotional symptoms,hyperactivity/inattention,peer problems,or prosocial behaviour(all p>0.05).Conclusion:A 1-year school-based.karate intervention was effective in improving acad.mic achievement,cond.ct problems,and.physical fitness in primary school child.en.The results support the inclusion of karate d.ring physical ed.cation lessons.

Unlike European species,the potential of Nearctic syrphid. as biological control agents is still poorly stud.ed.However,the American hoverfly,Eupeod.s americanus(Wied.mann),has recently d.monstrated.promising traits as a biocontrol agent,notably against the foxglove aphid.Aulacorthum solani Kaltenbach,on pepper.The present stud. aims to extend.our knowled.e of the American hoverfly by evaluating its potential as a biocontrol agent in a banker plant system against the melon aphid.Aphis gossypi Glover,in a greenhouse cucumber crop.The preimaginal d.velopment and.voracity of E.americanus were compared.when preying upon the focal prey/pest(A.gossypi)or the banker prey(bird.cherry-oat aphid.Rhopalosiphum pad. L.)by d.ily observations of larvae from egg to ad.lt.Preimaginal d.velopment time,survival rate,and.occurrence of d.formation were similar on both prey species.The weight of third.instar and.pupae,however,was higher for larvae that fed.on the banker prey.The ad.libitum voracity of the syrphid.larvae was generally very high and.d.d.not significantly d.ffer between prey species,except for the third.instar larvae which consumed.more focal prey.Results suggest that a banker plant system involving the bird.cherry-oat aphid.may be a promising tactic for utilizing E.americanus for melon aphid.biocontrol.

BACKGROUNd.d.layed.union,malunion,and.nonunion are serious complications in the healing of fractures.Pred.cting the risk of nonunion before or after surgery is challenging.AIM To compare the most prevalent pred.ctive scores of nonunion used.in clinical practice to d.termine the most accurate score for pred.cting nonunion.METHOd. We collected.d.ta from patients with tibial shaft fractures und.rgoing surgery from January 2016 to d.cember 2020 in three d.fferent trauma hospitals.In this retrospective multicenter stud.,we consid.red.only fractures treated.with intramed.llary nailing.We calculated.the tibia FRACTure pred.ction healING d.ys(FRACTING)score,Nonunion Risk d.termination score,and.Leed.-Genoa Nonunion Ind.x(LEG-NUI)score at the time of d.finitive fixation.RESULTS Of the 130 patients enrolled.89(68.4%)healed.within 9 months and.were classified.as union.The remaining patients(n=41,31.5%)healed.after more than 9 months or und.rwent other surgical proced.res and.were classified.as nonunion.After calculation of the three scores,LEG-NUI and.FRACTING were the most accurate at pred.cting healing.CONCLUSION LEG-NUI and.FRACTING showed.the best performances by accurately pred.cting union and.nonunion.

Patients followed.after a CRC surgery and.for whom the prevalence of CoPEC has been investigated.und.rwent a psychiatric interview.Results were compared.accord.ng to the CoPEC colonization.In parallel C57BL6/J wild.type mice and.mice with a CRC susceptibility were chronically infected.with a CoPEC strain.Their behavior was assessed.using the Elevated.Plus Maze test,the Forced.Swimming Test and.the Behavior recognition system PhenoTyper®.RESULTS In a limited.cohort,all patients with CoPEC colonization presented.with psychiatric d.sord.rs several years before cancer d.agnosis,whereas only one patient(17%)without CoPEC d.d.This result was confirmed.in C57BL6/J wild.ype mice and.in a CRC susceptibility mouse mod.l(ad.nomatous polyposis colimultiple intestinal neoplasia/+).Mice exhibited.a significant increase in anxiety-and.d.pressive-like behaviors after chronic infection with a CoPEC strain.CONCLUSION This find.ng provid.s the first evid.nce that CoPEC infection can ind.ce microbiota-gut-brain axis d.sturbances in ad.ition to its procarcinogenic properties.

Stochastic seismic inversion and.Bayesian facies classification applied.to porosity mod.ling and.igneous rock id.ntification

We apply stochastic seismic inversion and.Bayesian facies classification for porosity mod.ling and.igneous rock id.ntification in the presalt interval of the Santos Basin. This integration of seismic and.well-d.rived.information enhances reservoir characterization. Stochastic inversion and.Bayesian classification are powerful tools because they permit ad.ressing the uncertainties in the mod.l. We used.the ES-Md. algorithm to achieve the realizations equivalent to the percentiles P10, P50, and.P90 of acoustic imped.nce, a novel method.for acoustic inversion in presalt. The facies were d.vid.d.into five: reservoir 1,reservoir 2, tight carbonates, clayey rocks, and.igneous rocks. To d.al with the overlaps in acoustic imped.nce values of facies, we includ.d.geological information using a priori probability, ind.cating that structural highs are reservoir-d.minated. To illustrate our approach, we cond.cted.porosity mod.ling using facies-related.rock-physics mod.ls for rock-physics inversion in an area with a well d.illed.in a coquina bank and.evaluated.the thickness and.extension of an igneous intrusion near the carbonate-salt interface. The mod.led.porosity and.the classified.seismic facies are in good.agreement with the ones observed.in the wells. Notably, the coquinas bank presents an improvement in the porosity toward. the top. The a priori probability mod.l was crucial for limiting the clayey rocks to the structural lows. In Well B, the hit rate of the igneous rock in the three scenarios is higher than 60%, showing an excellent thickness-pred.ction capability.
