Two media bed （gravel and Filtralite NR） were tested in a mesocosm to evaluate the removal of organic matter （as chemical oxygen demand （cOD））, ammonia （NH4-N）, nitrite, nitrate and solid matter （as total suspended solids （TSS）） for a synthetic wastewater （acetate-based） and a domestic wastewater. The use of Filtralite allowed average removal rates （6--16.8 g cOD/（m^2·day）, 0.8-1.1 g NH4-N/（m^2·day） and 3.1 g TSS/（m^2·day）） and removal efficiencies （65%-93%, 57%-85% and 78% for cOD, NH4-N and TSS, respectively）, higher than that observed in the experiments with gravel. The applied loads of cOD, ammonia, nitrate and TSS seem to influence the respective removal rates but only for the treatment of domestic wastewater with nigher correlation coefficients for Filtralite. Regardless the type of media bed and the type of wastewater, nitrate was completely removed for nitrogen loading rates up to 1.3 g NO3-N/（m^2·day）. There was no evidence of the influence of nitrate loads on the removal of organic matter.

A thermodynamic analysis of methane oxidative reforming was carried out by Gibbs energy minimization （at constant pressure and temperature） and entropy maximization （at constant pressure and enthalpy） methods,to determine the equilibrium compositions and equilibrium temperatures,*** cases were treated as optimization problems （non-linear programming formulation）.The GAMS 23.1 software and the cONOPT2 solver were used in the resolution of the proposed *** hydrogen and syngas production were favored at high temperatures and low pressures,and thus the oxygen to methane molar ratio （O 2 /cH 4） was the dominant factor to control the composition of the product *** O 2 /cH 4 molar ratios higher than 0.5,the oxidative reforming of methane presented autothermal behavior in the case of either utilizing O 2 or air as oxidant agent,but oxidation reaction with air possessed the advantage of avoiding peak temperatures in the system,due to change in the heat capacity of the system caused by the addition of *** calculated results were compared with previously published experimental and simulated data with a good agreement between them.

MM： To investigate whether, under the influence of pol ypectomy, the incidence of adenoma decreases with age.METHODS： consecutive patients with colonic adenomas identified at index colonoscopy were retrospectively selected if they had undergone three or more complete colonoscopies, at least 24 mo apart. Patients who had any first-degree relative with colorectal cancer were excluded. Data regarding number of adenomas at each colonoscopy, their location, size and histological classification were recorded. The monthly incidence density of adenomas after the index examination was estimated for the study population, by using the person-years method. Baseline adenomas were excluded from incidence calculations but their characteristics were correlated with recurrence at follow-up, using the X^42 test.RESULTS： One hundred and fifty-six patients were included （109 male, mean age at index colonoscopy 56.8 ± 10.3 years）, with follow-up that ranged from 48 to 232 mo. No significant correlations were observed between the number, the presence of villous component, or the size of adenomas at index colonoscopy and the presence of adenomas at subsequent colonoscopies （P = 0.49, 0.12 and 0.78, respectively）. The incidence of colonic adenomas was observed to decay from 1.4% person-months at the beginning of the study to values close to 0%, at 12 years after index colonoscopy.cONcLUSION： Our results suggest the sporadic formation of adenomas occurs within a discrete period and that, when these adenomas are removed, all neoplasia-prone clones may be extinguished.

Ni/carbon was prepared in two steps： initially cellulose as carbon source and Nicl2·6H2O as catalyst of the carbonization process were submitted to hydrothermal treatment at 200 ℃ and further to thermal treatment at 900 ℃ under argon atmosphere. The obtained material contains Ni nanoparticles with face-centered cubic （fcc） structure dispersed on amorphous carbon with graphitic domains. PtRu/c electrocatalysts （carbon- supported PtRu nanoparticles） were prepared by an alcohol-reduction process using Ni/carbon as support. The materials were characterized by thermogravimetric analysis, energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction, transmission electron microscopy and tested as anodes in single direct methanol fuel cell （DMFc）. The performances of PtRu/c electrocatalysts using Ni/carbon as support were superior to those obtained for PtRu/c using commercial carbon black Vulcan Xc72 as support.

Objective The purpose of this study is to examine the regional distribution of the pediatric surgery workforce and the expected local demand for pediatric surgical procedures in *** We collected data on the pediatric surgical workforce,surgical volume,Gross Domestic Product per capita,and mortality for gastrointestinal tract malformations(MGITM)across the different regions of Brazil for *** Data from the Federal Medical council reported 1515 pediatric surgery registries in Brazil,corresponding to 1414 pediatric surgeons(some pediatric surgeons are registered in more than one state),or 2.4 pediatric surgeons per 100000 children 14 years of age and *** were 828 men and 586 *** mean age was 51.5±12.8 years,and the mean time from graduation was 3.4±5.7 *** is a higher concentration of pediatric surgeons in the wealthier central-West,South,and Southeast *** surgical volume ranged from 88 to 245 operations/year(average 146 operations/year)depending on the *** these,only nine(6.1%)were high-complexity(including neonatal)*** tended to be higher in the poorer North and Northeast regions than in other regions of *** Our findings suggest significant disparities in the surgical workforce and workload across Brazil related to socioeconomic *** with an increased surgical workforce were associated with lower *** average number of complex operations performed annually by each pediatric surgeon was considerably *** investment and well-defined health policies are imperative to enhance the quality of surgical care in the different regions of Brazil.
