Combining Ability and Heterosis in Corn Breeding Lines to Forage and Grain

This study was conducted in two stages, in 2006 the formation of cross, in the experimental field of the Universidad Autonoma Agraria antonio Narro Unidad Laguna (UAAANUL), and the evaluation of the same in 2007;at two locations with three environments, a locality was the experimental field of UAAANUL during spring and summer cycles and another location was the Niagara, Municipality of Aguascalientes, during the spring cycle. The genetic material used consisted of three groups of lines: the first group formed by four lines from the UAAANUL, the second group, two lines from INIFAP, and the third group, 10 lines of the International Center for Maize Improvement and Wheat (CIMMYT). The main objective was to estimate the effects of general combining ability (GCA) of the lines, and the specific combining ability (SCA) of their crosses and heterosis, to estimate its use in a breeding program. Estimates of general combining ability (GCA) and specific combining ability (SCA) were obtained using an analysis of line x line. To forage yield (FY), B-40 (16.84 t·ha-1) and AN-447 (1.54 t·ha-1) and to grain yield (GY), AN-388R (2.31 t·ha-1) had the greatest effect of GCA in both types of yield. The greatest effects of SCA for (FY) were cross AN-447XCML-264 (17.56 t·ha-1) and AN-388RXCML-319 (16.54 t·ha-1), in (GY) were cross AN-447XCML-315 (1.94 t·ha-1) and B-40XCML-319 (1.78 t·ha-1). For heterosis, higher value in forage yield was cross AN-447XCML-264 (20.7%), in grain yield, were B-40XCML-319 (27.1%) and B-32XCML-319 (22.1%) crosses. These results show that it is possible to structure a hybrid program using best lines from CIMMYT, INIFAP and UAAANUL.

Background: This document includes recommendations and guidelines issued by a group of Mexican researchers and specialists gathered in the First National Colloquium for the Diagnosis and Management of Chronic Myeloid Leukaemia (CML) by initiative of Instituto Nacional de Cancerología and with the support of the Leukaemia Department of the MD Anderson Cancer Center. Mexico lacks of updated information taken from its own reality on the diagnosis and treatment of CML and other haematological disorders;besides, there are no national guidelines. Aim: To publish a consensus document with guidelines for the management of CML adjusted to the national environment and overall characteristics. Method: The participants answered a DELPHI questionnaire about the overall aspects of the disease, aiming to target controversial topics, discuss them in the colloquium, and to agree on the best ones. After those meetings, a final document was drawn up. Results: The group presents recommendations for definition, diagnosis, prognosis, monitoring, and treatment of CML in Mexico. Conclusions: Having consensus guidelines for the clinical management of CML in our country will enable the consensual practice of Mexican specialists regarding the clinical approach to CML, as well as optimize the resources which allow the rational planning of the medical care strategies.

欧洲心血管介入协会(EAPCI)专家组系统总结了血管内超声(IVUS)和光学相干断层成像(OCT)这两种血管内影像学检查临床应用指征的现有证据,提供了关于IVUS和OCT指导经皮冠状动脉介入治疗(PCI)的应用价值,并明确了最可能从腔内影像学指导的介入治疗中获得临床收益的患者或病变类型,同时详细论述了PCI前如何使用IVUS或OCT优化支架尺寸(支架长度和直径)和手术策略的选择。此外,专家推荐对支架失败(支架内再狭窄或支架内血栓形成)的患者应常规进行冠状动脉内影像学检查,并首选OCT。最后,重点论述了IVUS和OCT在指导PCI和评估支架失败两个方面的优势和局限性,并对未来需要深入研究的领域进行了展望。

Coffee is one of the world most traded agricultural commodities. Currently, a lot of attention has been on Robusta coffee (Coffea canephora Pierre ex A. Froehner) because it seems to evidence a greater tolerance to extreme climatic events than Arabica coffee (C. arabica L.). Despite this, only a few works have been developed aimed at discriminating the climatic vulnerability in regions which prioritize robust coffee production. The aim of this work was to analyze historical climatic variables in space and time for the characterization of climatic vulnerability of micro-regions, in search of mitigation and adaptation, which might support the improvement of production systems of C. canephora coffee trees. The case study was carried out for one of the largest production regions of Robusta coffee of the world, in Brazil, geographically located between the 39°38' and 41°50' West longitude meridians and the 17°52' and 21°19' South latitude parallels. The vulnerability was characterized by the spatial and temporal variation of rainfall and rainfall seasonal pattern (based on 30 years of historical data), elements of climatic water balance, elevation and area planted with Robusta coffee. The choice of mitigation and adaptation were based on widely validated criteria. Overall, the results show that the vulnerability of Robusta coffee is related to low index of rainfall, the rainfall seasonability and the water deficiency. In the studied region, there is approximately 42% of some type of water vulnerability during the year, with a severe to medium scale;this vulnerability is very pronounced in regions farther away from the coast of the Atlantic Ocean, since for a year approximately 92% of them are water deficient. In addition, the data show that this distance from the ocean implies a reduction of 75% in the phases of water surplus not only. Punica granatum *** known antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory *** of different parts of this plant have been commonly used in the folk medicine to prevent and treat infections;and studies have supported the use of *** extracts for this ***,little is known of the effects of ***-derived fractions in severe infectious diseases such as ***,we investigated the actions of the hexane fraction(HF),rich in lipophilic compounds,obtained from the leaves of this plant,in a murine model of polymicrobial *** pre-treatment with HF increased mortality in septic *** same animals presented with lower levels of interleukin-6,nitric oxide and hydrogen peroxide in their peritoneal lavage samples than vehicle *** also increased polymorphonuclear cell accumulation in to the peritoneum of mice with ***-derived nitric oxide upon lipopolysaccharide stimuli was markedly reduced by incubation with ***,triterpenes,phytosterols,vitamin E and ascorbyl palmitate were detected in the *** results indicate that *** leaf lipophilic fractions may worsen sepsis *** effect may be associated with its bioactive compounds which act synergistically or not,increasing sepsis mortality in vivo.
