Reproductive patterns in Araucaria araucana forests in the Andean range, Chile

Background Araucaria araucana is a mast species that presents a high variability in annual cone production. Researchers have recorded synchronization events in cone production in different populations, which allows the seed production to be concentrated, reducing the percentage of seeds consumed by different animal *** We sampled three populations located in the Andes Mountains, Araucanía Region, Chile. In 2004 we began the collection of data on cone production, for which we installed permanent plots（1200 m2each） at each location. We identified and labeled each female tree in each plot to monitor its cone production. In 2012 we selected a total of 30 trees near the plots to evaluate the number of seeds per cone. In each February from 2012 to 2014 we selected two mature cones and covered them with a porous mesh for subsequent collection and storage in March. At the beginning of June, we counted and weighed the seeds, determining the average weight, the number of seeds per cone, the germination capacity（GC）, and the germination speed（GS）.Results Cone production was synchronous across the three locations. We observed significant differences among the locations and years evaluated. The cones had fewer seeds in 2013（high production） compared to those in 2012（low production）, but their weights were similar. In 2014 the cones produced smaller seeds in fewer quantities. The difference between the years 2013 and 2014 resulted from the high-energy expenditure in 2013. Regarding GC and GS, there were significant differences among the three locations（GC: F = 45.41, p < 0.01; GS: F = 96.08, p < 0.01）, where the highest values were observed in *** Both GC and GS are related to seed weight but not to the number of cones produced in a given year. Quantitative assessment of self-management in patients with nonalcoholic fatty liver disease: An unmet clinical need

Prevalence and ecological factors affecting the distribution of plant-parasitic nematodes in Prunus groves in Spain

A wide survey was conducted to study plant-parasitic nematodes(PPNs)associated with Prunus groves in *** research aimed to determine the prevalence and distribution of PPNs in Prunus groves,as well as the influence of explanatory variables describing soil,climate and agricultural management in structuring the variation of PPNs community composition.A total of 218 sampling sites were surveyed and 84 PPN species belonging to 32 genera were identified based of an integrative taxonomic *** species considered as potential limiting factors in Prunus production,such as Meloidogyne arenaria,***,***,Pratylenchus penetrans and ***,were identified in this *** soil physico-chemical(C,Mg,N,Na,OM,P,pH and clay,loamy sand and sandy loam texture classes),four climate(Bio04,Bio05,Bio13 and Bio14)and four agricultural management variables(grove-use history less than 10 years,irrigation,apricot seedling rootstock,and Montclar rootstock)were identified as the most influential variables driving spatial patterns of PPNs *** particular,younger plantations showed higher values for species richness and diversity indices than groves cultivated for more than 20 years with Prunus *** study increases the knowledge of the distribution and prevalence of PPNs associated with Prunus rhizosphere,as well as on the influence of explanatory variables driving the spatial structure PPNs communities,which has important implications for the successful design of sustainable management strategies in the future in this agricultural system.

Non-anatomical liver resection for hepatocellular carcinoma:the SegSubTe classification to overcome the problem of heterogeneity

Background:The superiority of anatomical resection(AR)***-anatomical resection(NAR)in the surgical management of hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC)is *** are well-defined procedures,whereas the lack of NAR standardization results in heterogeneous *** study aimed to introduce the SegSubTe classification for NAR detailing the appropriateness of the level of surgical section of the Glissonean pedicles feeding the ***:A single-center retrospective analysis of pre-and postoperative imaging of consecutive patients treated with NAR for single HCC between 2012 and 2020 was *** quality of surgery was assessed classifying the type of vascular supply and the level of surgical section(segmental,subsegmental or terminal next to the tumor)of vascular pedicles feeding the HCCs;then,the population was divided in“SegSubTe-IN”or“SegSubTe-OUT”groups,and the tumor recurrence and survival were ***:Ninety-seven patients who underwent NAR were included;76%were SegSubTe-IN and 24%were *** disease recurrence,local recurrence and cut-edge recurrence in the SegSubTe-IN ***-OUT groups were 50%vs.83%(P=0.006),20%vs.52%(P=0.003)and 16%vs.39%(P=0.020),***-OUT odds ratio for local recurrence was 4.1 at univariate regression ***-,three-,and five-year disease-free survival rates in the SegSubTe-IN ***-OUT groups were 81%,58%and 35%vs.46%,21%and 11%,respectively(P<0.001).Conclusions:The SegSubTe classification is a useful tool to stratify and standardize NAR for HCC,aiming at improving long-term oncological outcomes and reducing the heterogeneity of quality of NAR for HCC.

Preparation of Environmentally Friendly Urea-Hexanediamine-Glyoxal(HUG)Resin Wood Adhesive

Using non-toxic,low-volatile glyoxal to completely replace formaldehyde for preparing urea-glyoxal(UG)resin adhesive is a hot research topic that could be of great interest for the wood ***,urea-glyoxal(UG)resins prepared by just using glyoxal instead of formaldehyde usually yields a lower degree of *** results in a poorer bonding performance and water resistance of UG resins.A good solution is to pre-react urea to preform polyurea molecules presenting already a certain degree of polymerization,and then to condense these with glyoxal to obtain a novel UG ***,in this present work,the urea was reacted with hexamethylene diamine to form a polyurea named HU,and then this was used to react it with different amounts of glyoxal to synthesize hexamethylenediamine-urea-glyoxal(HUG)polycondensation resins,and to use this for bonding *** results show that the glyoxal can well react with HU polyuria via addition and schiff base reaction,and also the HUG resin exhibits excellent bonding strength and water *** shear strength of the plywood bonded with this HUG at 160°C hot press temperature as high as 1.93 MPa,2.16 MPa and 1.61 MPa,respectively,which meets the requirement of the China national standard GB/T 9846-2015(≥0.7 MPa),and can be a good choice as a wood adhesive for industrial application.
