Aggressive angiomyxoma was first described in 1983 by Steeper and Rosai, and fewer than 150 cases have been reported in the world medical literature. It is a soft-tissue tumour of the pelvis and perineum. The recurrence rate is high, and often extensive resections are performed with considerable morbidity. These tumours are benign, locally infiltrative mesenchymal neoplasms with a predilection for the female pelvis and perineum and they usually tend to recur. Furthermore, these tumours often reach too large dimensions before becoming clinically symptomatic;their incidence is higher in women of the reproductive age group;however a few cases of its occurrence outside the pelvis have also been reported. In this study, we reported three cases with aggressive pelvic angiomyxoma treated with surgical methods and used an approach that described by Kraske in order to get access to lower rectal cancers. Accurate preoperative diagnosis should alert the surgeon to the need for wide excision, which is essential for prevention of local recurrence.

AIM: To study whether matrix metalloproteinase-9 (MMP-9) is a key factor in epithelial damage in the dextran sodium sulphate (DSS) model of colitis in ***: MMP-9-deficient and wild-type (wt) mice were given 5% DSS in drinking water for 5 d followed by recovery up to 7 d. On d 5 and 12 after induction of colitis, gelatinases, MMP-2 and MMP-9, were measured in homogenates of colonic tissue by zymography and Western blot, whereas tissue inhibitor of metalloproteinases (TIMPs) were measured by reverse zymography. The gelatinolytic activity was also determined in supernatants of polymorphonuclear leukocytes (PMN) isolated from mice blood. Moreover, intestinal epithelial cells were stimulated with TNF-α to study whether these cells were able to produce MMPs. Finally, colonic mucosal lesions were measured by microscopic examination. RESULTS: On d 5 of colitis, the activity of MMP-9 was increased in homogenates of colonic tissues (0.24 ± 0.1 vs 21.3 ± 6.4, P < 0.05) and PMN from peripheral blood in wt (0.5 ± 0.1 vs 10.4 ± 0.7, P < 0.05), but not in MMP-9-deficient animals. The MMP-9 activity was also up-regulated by TNF-α in epithelial intestinal cells (2.5 ± 0.5 vs 14.7 ± 3.0, P < 0.05). Although colitis also led to increase of TIMP-1 activity, the MMP-9/TIMP-1 balance remained elevated. Finally, in the MMP-9-deficient colitic mice both the extent and severity of intestinal epithelialinjury were significantly attenuated when compared with wt mice. CONCLUSION: We conclude that DSS induced colitis is markedly attenuated in animals lacking MMP-9. This suggests that intestinal injury induced by DSS is modu-lated by MMP-9 and that inhibition of this gelatinase may reduce inflammation.

The Major Facilitator Superfamily(MFS)is ubiquitous in living organisms and represents the largest group of secondary active membrane *** plants,significant research efforts have focused on the role of specific families within the MFS,particularly those transporting macronutrients(C,N,and P)that constitute the vast majority of the members of this *** MFS families remain less explored,although a plethora of additional substrates and physiological functions have been ***,the lack of a systematic approach to analyzing the MFS as a whole has obscured the high diversity and versatility of these ***,we present a phylogenetic analysis of all annotated MFS domaincontaining proteins encoded in the Arab/dops/s fA?a//ana genome and propose that this superfamily of transporters consists of 218 members,clustered in 22 *** reviewing the available information regarding the diversity in biological functions and substrates of Arab/dops/s MFS members,we provide arguments for intensified research on these membrane transporters to unveil the breadth of their physiological relevance,disclose the molecular mechanisms underlying their mode of action,and explore their biotechnological potential.

The use of productive cultivars with adaptability and stability and less demanding to fungicide use are critical to the sustainability of production factors. The objective of this work was to determine the per se performance of white oat cultivars and parameters of adaptability and stability on yield and grain quality in the proposition of cultivars more responsive in reducing the use fungicide. The study was conducted in Augusto Pestana, RS, Brazil, between the years 2010 and 2013. The experimental design was randomized blocks with six replicates, three with and three without fungicide. The study evaluated 14 white oat cultivars for yield and industrial capability. The white oat cultivars FAEM 4 Carlasul and URS Corona indicate high grain yield with stability and general adaptability, independent of chemical control. The cultivar URS Corona shows together high yield and thousand grain weight and hectoliter with general adaptability and stability in the absence of fungicide. Although no stability has been detected in industrial yield without the use of fungicides, cultivars of URS Charrua, URS Corona and URS Taura show high means with general adaptability.

鹂雀(Linurgus olivaceus)是非洲热带森林中一种独特的鸣禽,为鹂雀属(Linurgus)的惟一物种。在已有的研究中,通过对鹂雀和雀形目现存鸟类中每个科及亚科至少一个物种的线粒体DNA序列测定,分析了鹂雀与其它现存雀形目鸟类的系统发生关系;在遗传上,对鹂雀与金丝雀、金翅雀及燕雀亚科其它鸟类亦有比较研究。本研究共使用了燕雀亚科83种鸟类,重点对该亚科的系统发生进行了修订。使用贝叶斯法构建了系统发生树,结果表明:鹂雀属于燕雀亚科,系统发生树中聚在金翅雀族(Carduelini),与金丝雀属(Serinus)、金翅雀属(Carduelis)及交嘴雀属(Loxia)的种类形成一组;在系统发生中,鹂雀可能是一个基部物种,它同金丝雀属和金翅雀属鸟类一同进化并分歧出来。在本研究中未能涉及的一些已灭绝种类,可能与鹂雀有着较近的遗传学关系。另一方面,研究也表明锡嘴雀(Coccotharustes coccothraustes)肯定包括在欧亚蜡嘴雀(蜡嘴雀属Eophona和拟蜡嘴雀属Mycerobas)中,美洲的朱雀(Carpodacus)可能是从亚洲种类分歧出来并经过进化辐射形成。

Adipocytes produce hormones and adipokines, among others leptin, with metabolic and inflammatory responses. The role of leptin involves different subsets of the immune system. Low levels of serum leptin concentrations are associated with bacterial infections and produce susceptibility to allergic diseases and type Th2 autoimmune diseases. High levels of leptin are associated with Th1 autoimmune diseases via inflammatory responses. Leptin resistance, that happens in obesity, is characterized by the presence of high levels of serum leptin itself accompanied by a clinical situation of a Th2 response. There is a relationship between obesity, leptin resistance, altered immunity and sex hormones. Serum leptin concentration (Th1 response) in women is higher than in men maybe to achieve the balance Th1/Th2 because of the high level of estrogenic hormones (Th2 response) in women.

Genetics of traits related to fruit cuticle deposition and composition was studied in two red-fruited tomato *** mapping populations derived from the cross between the cultivated tomato(Solanum lycopersicum L.)and its closest relative wild species Solanum pimpinellifolium *** employed to conduct a QTL analysis.A combination of fruit cuticle deposition,components and anatomical traits were investigated and the individual effect of each QTL evaluated.A total of 70 QTLs were identified,indicating that all the cuticle traits analyzed have a complex polygenic nature.A combination of additive and epistatic interactions was observed for all the traits,with positive contribution of both parental lines to most of *** of QTLs for various traits uncovered novel genomic regions producing extensive changes in the *** density emerges as an important trait since it can modulate cuticle thickness and invagination thus providing a strategy for sustaining mechanical strength without compromising *** genomic regions,located in chromosomes 1 and 12,are responsible for the negative interaction between cuticle waxes and phenolics identified in tomato *** candidate genes,including transcription factors and structural genes,are postulated and their expression analyzed throughout development.

BACKGROUND Cholesterol is related to improvements in the rate of sustained virological response and a robust immune response against the hepatitis C virus(HCV).APOE gene polymorphisms regulate cholesterol levels modifying the course of the HCV *** relationship between cholesterol,APOE alleles,and the outcome of HCV infection has not been evaluated in the admixed population of *** To investigate the role of APOE-ε2,-ε3,and-ε4 alleles and the metabolic profile in the outcome of HCV *** A total of 299 treatment-na?ve HCV patients were included in this retrospective *** were stratified in chronic hepatitis C(CHC)(n=206)and spontaneous clearance(SC)(n=93).A clinical record was *** tests were assessed by dry chemistry *** genotypes were determined using a Real-Time polymerase chain reaction *** Total cholesterol,low-density lipoprotein cholesterol(LDL-c),triglycerides,and hypercholesterolemia were higher in SC than CHC patients as well as the frequency of the APOEε4 allele(12.4%vs 7.3%).SC patients were overweight(54.8%).Theε4 allele was associated with SC(OR=0.55,95%CI:0.31-0.98,P=0.042)and mild fibrosis(F1-F2)in CHC patients(OR 0.091,95%CI 0.01-0.75,P=0.020).LDL-c≥101.5 mg/dL(OR=0.20,95%CI:0.10-0.41,P<0.001)and BMI≥26.6 kg/m2(OR=0.37,95%CI:0.18-0.76,P<0.001)were associated with SC status;while ALT≥50.5 IU/L was negatively associated(OR=5.67,95%CI:2.69-11.97,P<0.001).CONCLUSION In SC patients,the APOEε4 allele and LDL-c conferred a protective effect in the course of the HCV infection in the context of excess body weight.
