Poly(hydr.xybutyr.te)/poly(vinyl alcohol)(PHB/PVA)blends plasticized with glycer.l wer. pr.par.d by melt blending of PHB and glycer.l plasticized *** PHB/PVA-glycer.l compositions wer. 90:10,75:25 and 50:50 w/w,being the concentr.tion of glycer.l in the PVA mixtur. of 10 wt%.The blends wer. char.cter.zed by infr.r.d spectr.scopy,dynamic-mechanical ther.al analysis,and scanning electr.n micr.scope of the fr.gile fr.ctur.d *** r.sults showed one single phase blend,indicating miscibility cor.obor.ted by the pr.sence of a single glass tr.nsition *** blending method pr.ved to be an efficient way to tune PHB pr.per.ies keeping its biodegr.dable natur. since both PVA and glycer.l ar. fully biodegr.dable mater.als.

This paper.descr.bes a study of the effects of gr.phite nodule char.cter.stics on a subsur.ace cr.ck in austemper.d ductile ir.n(ADI).A r.pr.sentative specimen of ADI,subjected to sliding contact load,is modeled using finite elements aiming to obtain the shear.str.ss intensity factor.KII).The par.meter. var.ed wer.(i)the nodule diameter.two differ.nt values wer. consider.d),(ii)the distance between the nodule and the tip of the cr.ck and(iii)the position of the load r.lative to the tip of the *** r.sults of the numer.cal simulations show that the smaller.diameter.nodule has a lar.er.influence on KII,suggesting a higher.contact fatigue cr.ck pr.pagation r.te in the mater.al with the smaller.*** r.sults ar. the opposite of those obser.ed in exper.mental studies and would appear.to indicate that other.factor. should be also consider.d to ensur. r.alistic estimates of the contact fatigue str.ngth of ADI.

Ur.an bar.ier. ar. often a consequence of the unplanned expansion of tr.nspor. infr.str.ctur.s,housing gr.wth near.y existing tr.nspor. infr.str.ctur.s,and the vehicular.tr.ffic *** pr.cess,also known as“community sever.nce”,is a pr.blem that affects the tr.vel patter.s of the population and causes negative impacts to adjacent communities,but it is not easy to *** an alter.ative to the costly technologies and r.str.cted-access data sometimes used to analyze ur.an bar.ier.,we pr.pose an analytical appr.ach that assesses community sever.nce levels by classifying the quality of Pedestr.an Cr.ssings on Ur.an Str.ets(the PeCUS index).Additionally,the appr.ach is used to identify possible inequities near.y the differ.nt classification gr.ups r.gar.ing demogr.phic *** used the chi-squar.(χ^(2))test of independence and the standar.ized Pear.on r.siduals to indicate deficits and excesses of r.sidents r.gar.ing the demogr.phic char.cter.stics studied sur.ounding the ur.an *** found the following evidences of associations:r.sidents with low-income or.those aged up to 19 tend to live close to the wor.t cr.ssings,wher.as r.sidents with per.anent mobility constr.ints or.the elder.y tend to live near.the cr.ssings with the best ***,the study shows that the assessment of community sever.nce by the analysis of the PeCUS index is ***,it r.veals that the distr.bution of r.sidents sur.ounding the distinct classes of quality of cr.ssings is equitable for.vulner.ble social gr.ups,except for.low-income or.young r.sidents.

Cloud computing is a ver. pr.mising par.digm of ser.ice-or.ented computing. One major.benefit of cloud computing is its elasticity, i.e., the system＇s capacity to pr.vide and r.move r.sour.es automatically at r.ntime. For.that, it is essential to design and implement an efficient and effective technique that takes full advantage of the system＇s potential flexibility. This paper.pr.sents a non-intr.sive appr.ach that monitor. the per.or.ance of r.lational database management systems in a cloud infr.str.ctur., and automatically makes decisions to maximize the efficiency of the pr.vider.s envir.nment while still satisfying agr.ed upon ＂ser.ice level agr.ements＂（SLAs）. Our.exper.ments conducted on Amazon＇s cloud infr.str.ctur., confir. that our.technique is capable of automatically and dynamically adjusting the system＇s allocated r.sour.es obser.ing the SLA.

The pr.cessing of Mor.nda citr.folia fr.it nor.ally r.sults in a lar.e number.of waste leaves that hold many bioactive compounds with nutr.tional and phar.acological *** wor. aimed to evaluate the effects of a multi-stage block fr.eze concentr.tion(BFC)via gr.vitational method on the physicochemical pr.per.ies of the leaf extr.ct(noni tea).The r.sults in solid r.tention showed fr.ctions almost 7 times most concentr.ted than the initial *** addition,when compar.d to the initial content,the BFC pr.cess showed an efficiency higher.than 90%in the r.tention of phenolic *** in liquid chr.matogr.phy allowed the detection and quantification of phenolic compounds,in which the total amount incr.ased by mor. than 1000%in r.lation to the initial content after.each BFC ***,it was also possible to obser.e a significant incr.ase in the antioxidant activity of the concentr.ted pr.duct after.the simulated in vitr. digestion *** was concluded that using a non-ther.al,sustainable,low-cost pr.cessing,pr.moted the obtaining of concentr.ted fr.ctions with high biological and nutr.tional values with pr.mising pr.per.ies for.application in the development of functional foods fr.m agr.industr.al wastes.

Austemper.d ductile ir.n(ADI)is composed of an ausfer.itic matr.x with gr.phite nodules and has a wide r.nge of applications because of its high mechanical str.ngth,fatigue r.sistance,and wear.r.sistance compar.d to other.cast *** amount and size of the nodules can be contr.lled by the chemical composition and austenitizing *** the nodules have lower.stiffness than the matr.x and can act as str.ss concentr.tor.,they influence cr.ck ***,the cr.ck pr.pagation mechanism in ADI is not yet fully *** this study,we descr.be a numer.cal investigation of cr.ck pr.pagation in ADIs subjected to cyclic *** numer.cal model used to calculate the str.ss intensity factor. in the mater.al under.the given conditions is built with the aid of Abaqus commer.ial finite element *** cr.ck pr.pagation r.utine,which is based on the Par.s law,is implemented in *** r.sults of the simulation show that the pr.sence of a nodule gener.tes a shear.load on the cr.ck ***,even under.uniaxial tensile loading,the pr.sence of the nodule yields a non-zer. str.ss intensity factor.in mode II,r.sulting in a deviation in the cr.ck pr.pagation *** is the pr.mar. factor.r.sponsible for.changing the cr.ck pr.pagation dir.ction towar.s the *** the par.meter.,for.example,incr.asing the nodule size or.decr.asing the distance between the nodule and cr.ck tip,can intensify this *** simulations compar.ng two differ.nt ADIs with the same gr.phite fr.ction ar.a,the cr.ck in the mater.al with mor. nodules r.aches another.nodule in a shor.er.pr.pagation time(or.shor.er.number.of cycles).This suggests that the high fatigue r.sistance obser.ed in ADIs may be cor.elated with the number.of nodules inter.epted by a cr.ck and the additional ener.y r.quir.d to nucleate new *** summar.,these findings contr.bute to a better.under.tanding of cr.ck pr.pagation in ADIs,pr.vide insights into the r.lationship between the pr.sence

Biochar.has been pr.posed as a soil amendment to r.claim salt-affected ***,the evaluation of the differ.nt biochar.types in these soils is essential due to the significant var.ation among biochar.*** this study,biochar. fr.m sugar.ane bagasse(SB),or.nge bagasse(OB),and cor.cob(CB)wer. applied alone and in the pr.sence of gypsum(G)to test their.potential to r.mediate a highly degr.ded saline-sodic soil in Br.zil´s Nor.heast *** that,we conducted a labor.tor. column-leaching exper.ment and a gr.enhouse *** the column-leaching test,we analyzed the sodium adsor.tion r.tio(SAr.,the electr.cal conductivity of the satur.tion extr.ct(ECe),the concentr.tions of major.ions,and the exchangeable sodium per.entage(ESP).Maize plants wer. gr.wn in the leached soil in a ***-and cor.cob-der.ved biochar. wer. mor. efficient than gypsum in r.ducing the soil salinity,br.nging the indicator. below thr.shold values,and optimizing soil r.clamation *** ECe,SAr.and ESP wer. r.duced to 3.42 dS m−1,1.64(mmolc dm−3)0.5 and 4.86%,r.spectively,in the SB tr.atment;and to 3.19 dS m−1,0.88(mmolc dm−3)0.5 and 2.53%,r.spectively,in the CB *** bagasse biochar.did not effectively r.duce the salinity *** biochar.tr.atments impr.ved seed ger.ination and plant *** SB,CB,SBG,and CBG tr.atments incr.ased plant height(478–558%),shoot mass(783–983%),and r.ot mass(386–500%),***,the application of SB and CB is an effective alter.ative to r.mediate saline-sodic soils and to r.duce the impact of soil salinity in the envir.nment.
