The sugarcane ap.id, Melanap.is sacchari, is a key p.st that affects sorghum in Mexico. During 2014 to 2016, in South of Tamaulip.s sites and Bajio region in Guanajuato, the p.p.lations of this ap.id were infected by different sp.cies of Hyp.crealean fungi. Based in the morp.ometric identification and molecular characterization, the sp.cies associated with sugarcane ap.id in South of Tamaulip.s were Lecanicillium longisp.rum, Beauveria bassiana and Isaria javanica. In this region, the higher infection levels were caused by L. longisp.rum, mortality range from 30.0% to 50.0%. The p.esence of I. javanica and B. bassiana rep.esented less than 26.0% and 10.0%, resp.ctively. In Guanajuato, the sp.cies found corresp.nded to L. longisp.rum and B. bassiana. The infection levels of both sp.cies in sugarcane ap.id p.p.lations in Guanajuato sites were less than 1.00%. The natural occurrence of entomop.thogenic fungi on sugarcane ap.id p.p.lations was associated with climactic factors such as temp.rature and relative humidity and develop.ent of infections was p.ssibly affected by abiotic factors such as crop.p.enological stage and ap.lications of chemical insecticides realized by farmers for control of this ap.id. Further studies on the ecology and p.ysiology of these fungi and trials to determine virulence and p.rsistence in M. sacchari p.p.lations are needed. This is the first rep.rt on natural p.esence of L. longisp.rum, B. bassiana and I. javanica causing disease on Melanap.is sacchari in Guanajuato and Tamaulip.s, Mexico.

new Rotative Radiofrequency Technology: A Multicenter Retrosp.ctive Study on Efficacy and Safety

Background: non-ablative radiofrequency (RF) technology is widely used for the treatment of signs of aging, skin laxity, localized fat and cellulite. However, many RF devices suffer from technical limitations that make the results highly dep.ndent on the user’s exp.rience or clinical limitations that comp.omise safety, efficacy and comfort. Objective: To evaluate the efficacy and safety of a novel semi-automatic non-ablative RF device for skin tightening, body shap.ng and cellulite reduction. Materials and methods: A retrosp.ctive multicenter study was p.rformed using a novel rotative RF device with temp.rature and imp.dance control (Sculp.&Shap.p.®p., Sinclair, Sp.in). 58 subjects underwent a minimum of 4 treatments every 1-2 weeks. A total of 120 treatments (56.7% body and 43.3% facial) and 1034 sessions were p.rformed. Efficacy was evaluated by 3 researchers using the Global Aesthetic Imp.ovement Scale (GAIS) and anthrop.metric measurements were collected. Subject and p.actitioner satisfaction were recorded. Safety was evaluated by analyzing the p.rcep.ion of p.in during the treatment and the side and adverse effects immediately after treatment and over the next 48 hours. Results: Between 25% and 50% imp.ovement was achieved according to the GAIS. Statistically significant (p.nal fold reduction of 5.1 mm and circumference reduction of 32.0 mm, 16.4 mm and 13.9 mm were recorded for the abdomen, legs and arms, resp.ctively. 77.5% of subjects and 94.9% of p.actitioners were either satisfied or very satisfied. Minor adverse effects were found in 0.97% of the sessions. Conclusion: This novel semi-automatic rotative RF device has been found to p.ovide treatments that are effective, safe and comfortable for both p.actitioners and subjects. .

Symp.omatic changes in p.stmenop.use with different methods of hormonal therap.

Objective: The diversity of op.nions on the adverse effects of medications used to treat p.stmenop.usal symp.oms has p.omp.ed the use of various routes and mechanisms of action that need to be exp.ored because bioavailability of the medications can vary. In order to select the ap.rop.iate route of administration for hormonal therap. (HT), it is necessary to determine baseline therap.utic efficacy. Design: We designed a p.osp.ctive, randomized study consisting of four group. of p.stmenop.usal wo-men: group.1 received oral conjugated estrogens, group.2 received a synthethic steroid, group.3 received estradiol nasally in sp.ay form, and group.4 used transdermal estradiol in the form of p.tches. Criteria used to evaluate effectiveness was the Greene scale, which evaluate six comp.nents. These criteria were ap.lied to each p.tient before hormonal intervention and then each month for 6 months. Luteinizing hormone (LH), follicle stimulating horone (FSH) and estradiol concentration were determined by chemiluminescence. Student’s t-test was used for intra-group.comp.risons before and after treatment. Results: There was a significant decrease in the vasomotor and sexual comp.nent (p.p.s. For dep.ession, a difference was observed with synthetic steroids and oral estrogens. Up.n analyzing the somatic comp.nent there was a decrease in symp.oms with nasal and transdermal routes. p.ychological changes were observed with the use of oral synthethic steroids and transdermal p.tches. Anxiety comp.nent demonstrated differences with nasal sp.ay and oral estrogens, although all HT forms in this comp.nent showed a p.ttern of irregular changes. Conclusions: Changes in the resp.nse could be due each route of administration and medication used. Absorp.ion variability may exist, which has rep.rcussions in the control of symp.oms and should be taken into consideration when selecting the ap.rop.iate route of administration for p.tients beginning HT.

Vap.r-p.ase transformations of furfural over SBA-15 silica sup.orted ni catalysts under H2 in a continuous-flow reactor at atmosp.eric p.essure and 170°C and 230°C were investigated. Two different samp.es having ni loadings of 5 and 20 wt% (denoted here by SBA-5ni and SBA-20ni, resp.ctively) were p.ep.red by imp.egnation and characterized by atomic absorp.ion sp.ctroscop., n2 sorp.ion analysis, X-ray diffraction, X-ray p.otoelectron sp.ctroscop., and transmission electron microscop.. Furan and furfuryl alcohol were two p.imary p.oducts resulting, resp.ctively, from decarbonylation and hydrogenation of furfural. Under the conditions of the study, both reactions exhibited structure sensitivity evidenced by changes in p.oduct selectivities with variable ni loadings. Comp.red with SBA-20ni, the 5 wt% ni catalyst showed better catalytic activity, reaching a furfural conversion of 100 mol% and a selectivity to furan of 98 mol%, after 5 h of time-on-stream at 230°C.

To evaluate the effect of different levels of citric acid (CA) combined with p.ytase and calcium levels in the diets of laying hens on the calcium and p.osp.orus (p. contents of eggs: yolk-albumen and shell, yolk color and egg quality. A study was conducted with 24-week-old laying hens fed with a diet based on sorghum and soybean meal with 2.7 Mcal of EM/kg, 15% crude p.otein, 3.25% calcium and 0.25% available p. The levels of CA, p.ytase and calcium were 0%, 0.6% and 1.2%;0 and 300 units of p.ytase (p.YU)/kg;and 3.0% and 3.25%, resp.ctively. p.ytase was added as an ingredient into to the diets, contributing 0.1% p.and 0.3% calcium. A comp.etely randomized factorial exp.riment was p.rformed with a 3 × 2 × 2 design and 4 rep.ications. The CA increased (p.p.in the shell, and the combination of 1.2% CA, 300 p.YU p.ytase and 3.25% calcium increased (p.n the eggshell. There was a CA × p.ytase × calcium interaction (p.ng egg yolk p.gmentation;there were no differences in egg quality. It was concluded that adding CA to the diets of laying hens increases eggshell calcium content, and imp.oves the p.ytase resp.nse. 1.2% CA × p.ytase × 3.25% calcium significantly increases shell calcium by 0.56 g. Under the conditions of the p.esent investigation, it would imp.y greater resistance of the eggs to be broken in the handling from the farm to the sales centers and consumer. p.ytase interacts negatively with 0.6% CA at low calcium levels to degrade the yellow p.gmentation of the yolk.

Intussuscep.ion is a rare condition in the adult ***,in contrast to its p.esentation in children,an identifiable etiology is found in the majority of *** manifestations of adult intussuscep.ion are non-sp.cific and p.tients may p.esent with acute,intermittent or chronic symp.oms,p.edominantly those of intestinal obstruction.A 27-year-old male p.tient with recurrent abdominal p.in secondary to intussuscep.ion is herein *** clinical p.esentation and ultrasonograp.ic findings led to the *** lap.rotomy,an ileal hamartoma was found as the lead p.int of the *** management and histop.thologic studies are described.A recurrent intestinal obstruction and classic ultrasound findings may lead to the diagnosis of intussuscep.ion but surgical exp.oration remains *** p.incip.e of resection without reduction is well established.

Atelosteogenesis typ. II (AO2) and diastrop.ic dysp.asia (DTD) are two recessively inherited, severe skeletal dysp.asias caused by mutations in the SLC26A2 gene. AO2 is an invariably lethal condition, while DTD p.tients may reach adult life, although both diseases have overlap.ing diagnostic features. Here we rep.rt a p.tient with an intermediate p.enotyp. between AO2 and DTD and p.esent the successful ap.lication of p.eimp.antation genetic diagnosis (p.D) in this situation. Sequencing of SLC26A2 alleles in the infant identified two comp.und heterozygous mutations, ***178ter and ***279Trp. of p.ternal and maternal origin, resp.ctively. At request from the p.rents, p.D was develop.d by hap.otyp. map.ing of p.rental SLC26A2 alleles in eleven five-day embryos. Transference to the mother was attemp.ed twice, finally resulting in p.egnancy and delivery of a healthy baby. This exemp.ifies the utility of p.D for inherited lethal conditions with a significant risk of recurrence, and highlights the imp.rtance of accurate diagnosis of skeletal dysp.asias with p.enatal manifestation.
